    Our Fam @ Sushi X
    Chris E.

Great location in the heart of Ridgewood....AND, more importantly, the sushi isn't bad either. There aren't many AYCE sushi restaurants in northern NJ, but whenever I find one, the excitement antennas are set off in me. One thing I love about this AYCE sushi restaurant is that, like many of the good ones, they offer AYCE sashimi! However, not ALL fishes or typical sashimi were available here (e.g. regular tuna, eel were not part of the sashimi section), but beggars can't be choosers right????? We strolled in for an early Friday evening dinner at around 5:30 PM. First off, if you're familiar with the area, then you'll know that parking is TOUGH here, especially as the evening wears on, so come early! When we arrived, the restaurant was nearly empty with just 2 parties dining, but by around 6:30-7:00 PM, it got absolutely packed. By the time we left at 7:00, the 2 waitresses working the evening were flying back and forth between tables. I won't go through everything on the menu because, like I said, it's very typical of good AYCE sushi restaurants these days. They have various sashimi, sushi, sushi rolls and special rolls on their menu along with salads, soups, appetizers and fried foods. The sashimi, sushi and appetizers were all decent and I thought it was pretty solid. My better half claimed that there was a bit of discoloration on some of the sashimi, so it skewed her opinions immediately of the sashimi quality, but I didn't think there was much to it as most of it tasted relatively fresh. I DO AGREE with her that some of it could have been better though, like the clam sashimi didn't look great. As for service, it was very quick throughout the evening. Our appetizers and sushi came out very quick, although it wasn't super busy at the time when we dined, but the waitresses were always coming back to see if we were ready with our next order. When it did get busy, things seemed a bit more hectic inside. Also, one thing to note for AYCE diners is that if you're not ordering from the AYCE menu, which as of June 2025 is $31.99/person, they do have an a la carte menu too, but if 1 person is doing AYCE at the table, EVERYYYYONE else has to do it, unless the other parties at your table are under 10 years old. Because our kids were not ordering from the AYCE menu, the waitresses seemingly kept coming back to check on our table to make sure our kids were not eating any of the food that my wife and I were ordering from the AYCE menu. In my opinion, it was a a litttttttle petty, but I guess rules are rules and they are definitely strict here about it. Overall, solid sashimi and sushi. We've been to quite a few AYCE sushi restaurants in NY and NJ and Sushi X doesn't have the best AYCE sashimi and sushi quality we've ever had, but it passes the test still and I would still come back again in the future.

Great place for AYCE sushi and kitchen dishes. High quality sushi and delicious kitchen items. Definitely recommend getting the chicken teriyaki and the yakitori. The sushi sashimi and the hand rolls were good and for the price you pay, expect to leave super full with money still in your pocket. This place is also BYOB so bring a bottle or two of whatever you like. The service was killer, always near our table in case we needed anything. The place was a bit small and we had a huge party of 19. They put us in the back by the kitchen and there was plenty of room for our big party. Will definitely come back again for the sushi and the great service.

Amazing restaurant. Service always isn't the best, sometimes we get cranky servers , but the food is always amazing. So worth it with the all-you-can-eat. You can try a variety of thing from appetizers to sushi. The tuna tartare, crazy girl sushi, scallops , shumai, and rock shrimp are a must try!

Idk what's with the bad reviews but honestly $33 all you can eat sushi was all mouth blessing and made fresh and the chicken teriyaki is a must. Fast food service and the staff was awesome af

I don't write reviews, ever, but I can't let others get sick. RUN AWAY! THIS PLACE IS HORRIBLE. Got FOOD POISONING. They should be shut down!! Let's begin with the APPETIZER: The food has no taste, the sauces were thick and all you could taste is salt. Also, I'm convinced they only had one type of sauce for everything. THE FISH: The shumai is tasteless and over fried. The sushi was old, smelled and was cut like some kind of meat. I've never had salmon sashimi that was Warm, so thin you could see through it, completely covered in fat and cut like a French Fry. I wouldn't even touch the other Sashimi, as it was old and looked like it was sitting out. The sushi was sloppy and looked like it was premade as it was warm. The food that was cooked in oil tasted off and I honestly have to think it has something to do with the Oil. FOOD POISONING: We left the food half way through. We could eat it as me and my husband started to feel sick after eating it for 20 minutes. It didn't sit right with both of us, and we were right. We both got food poisoning and were sick for over 24 hours. Please don't eat here. They deserve to be shut down or at the very least heavily inspected and correct the quality of food they are serving people.

Delicious and fresh sashimi, quick and friendly service! Part of 4 who came in Thursday night around 6:45pm, no wait. We enjoyed the all you can eat (AYCE) sushi and sashimi. My favorites are the red clam, white tuna (melt in your mouth!), squid, red snapper, and eel. We also enjoyed baked mussels, gyoza and shumai, and various other side dishes. For dessert, I loved the refreshing ginger ice cream and green tea ice cream flavors! The waitresses and waiters were attentive and refilled our tea and water, new menus frequently. I will say that their English is not great, so it's helpful that we spoke Chinese :-). Just be patient or speak more slowly if you are a customer who cannot speak Chinese! Restaurant ambiance is just okay, 3.5/4 stars. It's cozy but a little dim. Still cute. Overall I had a great time with my family and would definitely come back!

We went for a gathering and prebooked it. They gave us the back area which was fine. As soon we walked in the waitress was beyond rude and not helping us with sitting. She was just rude and pretty much pushed our table on us. We requested another waitress she was just rude. They gave us another waitress she was good. It's all about the first impression this woman ruined it! If you are not good with people don't waitress. The prices were reasonable and the food tasted good. I can't get over the sour impression that woman gave to our gathering. I will not return or recommend this restaurant due to the waitress's service when we first walked in. It's a shame food was good.

We ordered delivery from Sushi X for the first time. We had a few rolls and an order of Yaki Soba. Everything was fresh and tasty. The stir fry noodles were done just right...no soggy veggies and good seasoning. Delivery through Door Dash was prompt and courteous. We will order from Sushi X again

Sushi X is a solid place for decent all you can eat sushi and it's BYOB. They have a wide range of rolls and appetizers included in the AYCE price - which was $28.99/person for a Thursday night. I remembered to take pictures 1/2 way through the meal, so I didn't get a picture of the tiny spare ribs they served us or the kinda stale crab wontons. The sushi is always delicious, but I do feel they have started to skimp on some of the toppings. I remember the tobiko being more robust and was a little disappointed to see such a light offering on the one special roll. The place is tight and dimly lit. There's music playing loudly in the background. It's not the cleanest place, but I've never gotten sick from eating here. I'm sure there are nicer places you can go, but Sushi X is definitely our good ol standby.

Highly recommend putting in a reservation beforehand and coming at around 5-6 during the weekend. After that time it gets super booked. Staff is short so you'll be waiting around a lot. Small, cute place though. Went for all you can eat with a party of 5, we paid around $36 each. Sushi was nothing extraordinary, however, they do have a variety of quirky rolls! My friends and I really enjoyed trying the Mango Roll, this unique combo was pretty good. Overall, I would give it three stars. Cute place but nothing special and staff seemed overworked.

Blu Sushi is the perfect mix of deliciousness, affordability, and fantastic service. I've gone there for my lunch around three times these past two weeks and each time I've had a wonderful experience. Their lunch special is super affordable. You can get 2 rolls for the less than I spend for one at many of the other restaurants in Ridgewood. However, despite that, it honestly tastes the best out of many of the places I've gone to. Also, if you are up for spending more, they have a fantastic selection of appetizers and special rolls that you can try again (I recommend the dynamite shrimp). When I go, I normally get the 2 roll option from the lunch menu. Typically, I have the spicy salmon and the spicy tuna rolls when I order that. Regarding those rolls, they are first and foremost delicious. You can tell that fresh their fish is and how much time and dedication they put into their sushi with each bite. Furthermore, they are spicy--but not too spicy. When you have them you are able to enjoy every aspect of the roll without being completely overwhelmed by the spice. Additionally, they add something crunchy to the rolls which take them from just a tasty lunch to a full experience. Most importantly though, the service and ambiance is fantastic. Every time I've been there I've only been treated with kindness and consideration. They are very willing to talk with you about their dishes, share some interesting facts about it (like how they came up with the dynamite shrimp), and more. But the best part about it is that they remember you. That honestly meant a lot to me. I know that this whole review was a lot of me ranting, but I honestly mean it. If you are looking for a nice, quaint, delicious, affordable, and hospitable meal--Blu Sushi is the place for you.

Yet in many Japanese restaurants, I've found that no matter when I revisit and order their omakase, the dishes, from appetizers to sushi and sashimi, all remain the same. Thankfully, this was not the case at Shumi. Here, the chefs truly strive to create edible masterpieces. I had the pleasure of enjoying innovative appetizers along with nigiri that simply melted in my mouth. Shumi's omakase was once priced at $150 per person, but in a thoughtful move to accommodate their customers, they adjusted it to $95 per person without compromising the quality of their fish. I will note that the pieces are smaller, but they still deliver the freshest taste. The staff is exceptionally gracious, dedicated to ensuring a wonderful dining experience. They are quick to replenish your tea or fill your glass as soon as it's half empty. I did, however, find the restaurant a bit chilly, and the music was a little too loud, making it difficult to hear the staff as they described each type of fish. For those who followed Master Chef Kunihiko "Ike" Aikasa from the original Shumi in Somerville, he sold that business before opening this new location in Ridgewood, which has been open since 2017. Here, he has partnered with owner David Seo. The aesthetic of the new restaurant remains clean and bright. In a competitive town like Ridgewood, where locals expect restaurants to bring their A-game, Shumi has obviously stood the test of time. I wish them many more years of excellence.
