Incredibly amazing Japanese Italian fusion pasta! The pasta texture was truly outstanding, and the flavour was tasty. We got the umi scallop spaghetti and miso bolognese. I personally like the creamy umi scallop spaghetti better than the miso bolognese but even then the miso was stellar because of the texture of the pasta. The pasta is al dente even for take out and it was so addictive! We did Uber eat take out so I can't comment on the service and ambiance. The order came with salad on the side but we got two servings of oil and thought they may have missed the dressing so we were confused. Nonetheless the salad was was fresh but just staple. Wasuta pasta has been on my 'go to' list since I first heard of them many months ago! We finally go to celebrate an occasion. Knowing the place is quite popular, we were luckily smart enough to make a reservation as the place is PACKED during the dinner rush on a weekend! Once seated our server introduces the special menu (written on a chalk sandwich board) that is left in close proximity to our table. We were keen pick a few in addition to some staple menu items. Of the pasta variation ordered personal favorites would be the crab croquette, the truffle gnocchi and beef carpaccio. The lathered sauce on top of the crab croquette was delicious! It was rich and flavourful and complemented both the crispiness and mellower filling perfectly. I would order this over and over again. Personally very impressed with the amount of truffle included with the gnocchi dish. I'm confident a generous amount of truffle oil was also incorporated in the sauce because the flavours were a 10/10 - very well paired with a nice chunky piece of gnocchi. Would recommend! I'm not much of a raw foods person due to a sensitive digestive system, but the wagyu beef carpaccio was well done. I particularly enjoyed the dollops of Burrata (?) with the toast and beef to amplify the overall butteriness of the bite. Note for the unprepared, the wagyu is probably Canadian wagyu and not Japanese wagyu. All else not a bad antipasto dish to try. Take away a - great little 'fine-r dine' place in a more corporate area of Richmond. I was surprised by the high quality of food delivered, but at the same time the price point to portion size ratio was also a surprise. Loved this Japanese Italian fusion restaurant in the middle of Richmond! Decent amount of seating inside but we did make reservations. We got the black garlic oyster mushroom, and bacon fettuccine alongside the smoked saba miso cream fettuccine. The black garlic fettuccine was not spicy at all. Itameshi, or Japanese-Italian fusion cuisine, is not that common, but it just makes sense on the plate. Wasuta Pasta delivers with its lighter take on pasta through delicate yet delectable flavours. We ordered the Scallop Uni Cream ($26), Black Garlic, Oyster Mushroom, Bacon with Onsen Tamago ($24), Crab Cream Croquette ($16), and Matcha Kinako Tiramisu ($11). A hefty bill for two people given the portion size, but we left satisfied with our experience overall. Both fettuccine dishes were cooked al dente, presented beautifully, and tasted delicious. I do wish the Scallop Uni Cream and Crab Cream Croquette had more uni and crab flavours, respectively, as they were more cream-forward. However, the scallops were plentiful and plump, and the croquettes were deep-fried well and complemented by the tomato sauce. My favourite dish of the night was the Matcha Kinako Tiramisu, which struck the right balance of a light cream and an airy sponge. The dusting of matcha and kinako powder added some earthy nuttiness. The five stars here largely hinges on the spectacular service we received. All the servers were so friendly and took the time to explain the menu and specials to us as it was our first time. The kitchen also accommodated our request for low sodium by reducing the salt in our Scallop Uni Cream and serving the Crab Cream Croquette with the sauce on the side. While Wasuta Pasta should not be missed, it can very easily be missed getting there because it is tucked away on the second floor of a strip mall and is not readily accessible by transit. Its discrete location probably reduces wait times as there isn't as much foot traffic as it deserves. There is ample parking and some nice views at sunset though. read more

We came on a Saturday and had made reservations ahead of time. The place was packed when we arrived but we got seated right away. We ordered the Wagyu carpaccio, Crab croquette, mentaiko carbonara, scallop Uni cream pasta and the truffle gnocchi. The crab croquette was my favourite dish. There was a lot of crab inside and it was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The mentaiko carbonara was creamy but didn't have that umami savouriness that I was looking for. Wouldn't recommend it. The scallop Uni cream pasta was also a creamy pasta. There was quite a bit of uni in it but it wasn't my cup of tea. The truffle gnocchi had a very strong truffle flavour. If you are a fan of truffles you will definitely like the gnocchi. The gnocchi itself was cooked nicely and wasn't over or under done. The Wagyu carpaccio was one of the bigger disappointments of the night. There was no beef flavour. Overall would recommend visiting if you like Asian fusion pasta but it is definitely on the pricier side. The food is quite nice and you can tell that they pay attention to the quality of the food. I would recommend the crab croquette and the truffle gnocchi. The service is okay not the most attentive and not the fastest either. I remember coming to Wasuta when they first opened years ago! I had their uni pasta back then and fell in love. This visit was my second time coming here. It was pretty busy but we got seated within 10 minutes. We ordered the sakura shrimp pasta and mentaiko pasta. Both pastas were really good. Light and not too heavy feeling, not super saucy which may be a plus to some people and a con to others. The pasta seems to be made in house (not too sure on this but my pasta did feel like it was fresh and not dried). My one complaint about the mentaiko pasta was that was that the mentaiko was not distributed through the pasta. I had to break the sack and mix it in myself which was difficult and affected the taste as some bite were too salty. Service was very minimal. read more

I'm so blessed to call Vancouver my home where its home to a wide array of food. I had Japanese style pasta in Japan a few times and I'm so glad I can eat it here as well! Don't be fooled by how the restaurant may look from the outside. The inside is well decorated and populated with Japanese staff who wore matching Xmas themed shirts. How cute! We sat at the bar and watched the chefs at work. It smelled heavenly and I became even more hungry. We ordered the rigatoni miso Bolognese, spaghetti mentaiko carbonara and fettuccine scallop Uni cream. Since we came during lunch, our meals came with salad and a small antipasto. The salad tasted light and tangy, which is typically what a Japanese salad is like. I'm impressed! The dishes were simple but very flavorful. The simplicity of the sauces reminds me of the pastas I had in Rome, Florence and Venice! They offer dining in the restaurant as well as 2 tables outside Each dish was served with an individual side salad and olives The Mentaiko Spaghetti Carbonara was served with a full piece of Mentaiko, so we can mix this in ourselves. The shiso really brings out the freshness of the dish ($18) It was a bit salty but very good! The housemade noodles are perfect al dente for me! The Chilled Matcha Spaghetti with prawns and tomatoes was a daily special dish. This dish was very refreshing, especially in the summer. TLDR: Food was ok, but could be better. A bit pricey. This place is actually a 3.5, but I can't put 3.5. Wasuta pasta is a café style restaurant that serve Japanese - Italian cuisine. They claimed on their website that all their pasta are handmade. I went here on a busy Friday as a group of 6. We called ahead around 4 hours beforehand to reserve as we were a pretty big group. They told us that the only time they would be available is at 7.30 PM. We got seated around 15 min after we arrived, probably around 7.40 PM. The restaurant was very full, so we opt in to split our group to 2 tables. My table has 4 people. All my friends ordered pasta from the regular menu, but I decided to order from the special menu that was posted on their instagram story, Ricotta Aosa Gnocchi which cost $23. We all didn't get our food at the same time. There is big gap on the timing on when our table got our food. My food came first, and another friend got their 10 min after me. The other two about 10 min after (they ordered the same dish). Plating is a bit lousy, there is no volume. The lack of ricotta and the nuts hurt not only the flavour, but also the appearance. Taste-wise, food was ok. I could really taste the aosa in the gnocchi itself. But I think the gnocchi was not bouncy enough, definitely handmade tho! The soy sauce based sauce was pretty good. Overall, it was ok. Ordered yuzu posset for dessert. I could really taste the yuzu flavour and it tasted pretty good. I did not have much expectation as that is the first time I had posset. It's like panna cotta, but slightly tart. Servers are nice, and pretty attentive in keeping our water filled. Will I ever come back? Maybe but probably not in the near future. The orange umeshu is the perfect summer drink because it's super tangy and refreshing. The blue melting cloud is a blue Hawaii, lemon juice and cotton candy mocktail. It's very pretty to look at. I thought it would be really sweet but it is actually not! The crab croquette we got was mind blowing. It has a light and crispy crust and the fillings are super creamy. You can definitely taste chunks of crab meat. Pairing it with the tomato makes it taste even better. The pulled pork from the ragu was really tender. Overall the flavor is very subtle yet enjoyable. I substituted for a squid ink spaghetti for my sakura shrimp shirasu. I do really enjoyed the dish. I think it has a really nice garlicky flavor, I also really like the sakura shrimp. The restaurant is located on the second floor of a Industrial building. It's a small place with only six tables for indoor seating. When we called to make a reso, we were told that all the tables for reservation are already booked, only walk-in was available. When we got there, there were only one table inside was available for walk-in customers, along two small patio tables outside. The waitress told us that we might have to wait for an hour for that indoor table to be available, so we decided to sit outside. The night was a bit chilly with overcast weather, thankfully everyone was dressed warm. Five mins after sitting down, I noticed the customers at that indoor table already finished their meal, so we asked the waitress if we can be switched to indoor. So much for "an hour" wait lol. The food came really fast, my daughter had a kids meal of Rigatoni Pomodoro, and she really liked it! But I didn't like that they offered juice and lollipop as treat...I had to hide the lollipop from her. If you ordered the kids meal, unless you want to deal with that sugar rush, I would recommend to skip the treat part. My husband ordered the spaghetti mentaiko carbonara, and I ordered the fettuccine scallop uni cream sauce. We both really enjoyed the freshness of the pasta, and the sauce. However, my scallops were really tiny, I was disappointed by the size and the portion of them. The final dessert was the matcha kinaku tiramisu. It was creamy and light, just the way I like. It's probably the highlight of the whole meal. The service was just very standard, and minimum. It seems like they have a staffing issue. We waited a long time to order, and never got a glass of water. They did apologize after we mentioned, but it just felt very rushed. The waitress offered a to-go box for my daughter's leftover to pack up, right in the middle of our eating. To me, it was a subtle sign of letting us leave. Maybe it's a Japanese culture? My husband ordered a latte, only came 15 mins after we finished the meal. After all, the pasta was freshly made, decent but very carb heavy. Located upstairs, Wasuta faces the water and park trail (great for a post-meal walk). If you're craving Japanese-style pasta, look no further! They feature some of the classic combos/dishes of uni cream pasta and squid ink but this place also features dishes that lean more towards Italian-inspired. We had the specials that night and they were delicious - just wish the pasta was cooked more al dente. As the pasta continues to cook in the sauce when served, it gets too sticky. The house-made focaccia was delicious - but would prefer the bowl they served the oil and vinegar in was a little more shallow so that we could get a more even ratio of oil & vinegar instead of having to soak the bread in so much oil before we can get to the vinegar. Crab croquettes were very nice (more potato than crab but that's okay by me) and the crab flavour was very potent and went wonderful with wine. Great curated selection of sake and wine. Japanese x Italian fusion always sounds like a dream to me so I was very excited to try this restaurant. After our dining experience, I can confidently say this was one of our most disappointing meals in the city. FOOD: Wagyu Beef Carpaccio -- this is how they earned a star. The carpaccio was great! Seasoned very well, presented nicely, and it almost melted in our mouthes. However, it only came with 4 -5 very thin pieces and it was served with thick slices of focaccia bread. Perhaps it could have been elevated with thinner and more toasted pieces of crostini. The chewiness and starchiness of the focaccia didn't mesh well with the carpaccio and completely overpowered it. Pulled Pork Ragu Fusilli -- this pasta dish had barely any taste and was watery. There also wasn't much pulled pork which was also very under seasoned. Not much to say here other than it was bland and below average. (Dinner Special) Vongole Basco -- this dish was very under seasoned as well. The spaghetti tasted like a dish of boiled noodles with no sauce or seasoning. It was also extremely starchy. The clams were fine but some on my dish were undercooked/unopened. When the server came to ask us how our meal was, I gave him our feedback and expressed our concern and disappointment in the dishes, his response was quite surprising saying that it's a Saturday and there's a lot of pressure so the chefs aren't putting as much love into the dishes. Not quite what you want to hear as a customer. He didn't offer a discount, refund, or replacement on any of the dishes. Other than the food, parking was great -- free and lots of spots and ambience was fine -- casual and quite cozy. Appetizer: Crab cream croquette $14, 8.5/10 : Crunchy and creamy all at once! There were also big chunks of crab in the middle, and the tomato sauce on top balanced out the creaminess. It's a great appetizer to start, but I wish the portions were bigger for what you pay! Fettucine scallop uni cream sauce $22, 7/10: I loved the generous amount of tender scallops! The uni cream sauce flavour was a little underwhelming and it's more liquid than creamy so you really have to mix it well before eating. Pasta noodles were cooked al-dente and the sauces weren't too salty! Portions were decent to share between 2 people. This place might be a gem for those who don't live in Richmond, but it can get busy! There's only 7 tables so reservations are recommended. The server Ellie was really nice and she provided good options for food and drinks, and she always checked up on us! There shouldn't be a problem finding parking either since it's not a busy area. Tucked in a plaza along the seemingly quiet part of River Road along the Fraser River, I only found out about this Japanese-Italian fusion spot on a recommendation from a local friend. What a gem! I'm an early bird and like to avoid long wait times if I can, so that meant arriving at Wasuta right before they opened to be the first in line for a table. To our surprise, Wasuta was celebrating their third anniversary with a special set menu that weekend. The guava and yuzu mocktails were refreshing, pastas were cooked perfectly al dente and the crab cream croquette were nicely deep fried. Scallops were nice and plumped though I wish a bit more uni was blended into the sauce for stronger uni taste. Overall we enjoyed our lunch experience and would recommend to anyone craving Japanese-Italian fusion eats! Parking is plentiful and note that the restaurant is located on the second level of the plaza. read more

Decided to finally try out Watsuta while we were in Richmond today and looking for a place to grab takeout. The restaurant caters to pasta with a Japanese twist to it! We ordered the Rigatoni Miso Bolognese + Spaghetti Mentaiko Carbonara. Both of the pasta were on the softer side and the flavours and sauce were less prominent and more dry than I hoped for, but this could be because it was take out and had to go through a 20 min car ride before being reheated and enjoyed. So to be fair I would recommend trying the dishes at the restaurant to get a true taste of how the dishes are freshly served and opt out of take out next time. Plus, the restaurant has a spectacular view of the Fraser River that's perfect for viewing the sunset! That itself is enough of a reason why dine in is the way to go! read more

Wasuta has a very interesting location- in the middle of an industrial/business area. Not great to get to if you're transiting so take a car if possible. If you're lucky like we were, it's also a beautiful place to be on a clear day when the sun goes down. Especially for those outside, you can view the sunset clearly as you eat your meal. Make reservations because this place is crowded even for its location. We ordered the oyster mushroom fettuccine with poached egg and double smoked bacon, and the rigatoni miso bolognese. Both were delicious. Overall a great time and I'd recommend to anyone for some good pasta. read more

New Japanese & Italian restaurant just opened today on May 12th, 2021. New great option of Asian style Italian cuisine that now served in Richmond. We had brought some items to try this evening: * Crab Cream Croquette ($12): very creamy potato croquette with crab meat. There is homemade tomato sauce adding to the croquette which is very flavourful. But we find that it's not much of crab meats. * Spaghetti Mentaiko Carbonara ($18): too bad we can only takeout for the order. The noodle is good but better to eat it fresh. It's a bit dry after we had it at home. Generous amount of Mentaiko. * Matcha Kinako Tiramisu ($9): yummy and special Tiramisu. Kinako adds very nice freqrance to pair with matcha flavor. 3.5 Visited on a weeknight. We had called a week prior and received confirmation for our reservation but the restaurant did not have it on record upon arrival. Fortunately there was space, and the server was able to seat us immediately. 3/5 I had the Fettuccini Scallop Uni Cream Sauce ($22). Pasta cooked well and sauce was good although it didn't have much of uni flavour. The dish would've been better skipping out on "Scallop" entirely, as there was only one overcooked large scallop cut into two and a couple sad small scallops. Fettuccini Uni Cream Sauce alone might be a 3.5-4. 4/5 Matcha Kinako Tiramisu ($9) Dessert was yummy. I enjoyed every bite. It was a shareable portion but I was not in a sharing mood. My friend thought there was a little too much matcha powder but I disagree. I would come back for it. Lots of parking. Overall it's a nice local place to try but pastas are a little expensive for what it is. We definitely felt rushed throughout service. read more

Decided to try this place because my friends spoke highly of it. Decided to go with my partner and ordered their signature dishes and the croquette. We had just placed our order and one of the waiters came up to us asking if we wanted one of the dishes we ordered. He told us their system made an error and they made an extra one. We decided to take the dish even though we were hesitant of how long it had been sitting out for. It definitely was not up to our standards and the hype of the food. Our food was bland and just warm (wasn't steaming nor did we have to blow on it to cool it down). For the price of the dishes, I was definitely not pleased. The waiter serving us didn't seem like he wanted to be there either and was not as enthusiastic as the others. Probably won't be coming back here again as there are other better tasting Japanese Italian fusion restaurants that we've been to. read more
