The good: - The view - The dining room is nice - Several of the servers work very hard and were charming. They were in the minority. - One of the bartenders took the time to talk to my wife and made her a hand crafted cocktail but this was after being ignored by the other two bartenders for nearly 15 minutes - The oysters are local and very fresh The bad: - Service: there were several servers that rushed around a lot but didn't seem to be doing anything. They certainly didn't look you in the eye or check up on you. Our waiter at dinner couldn't be found when it was time for a refill. All of our food was brought out at once. - Food: This place has a reputation for excellent northwest cuisine. The prices would be in line with that. However, the food was in many cases poorly executed. We received food that was cold, under cooked, over cooked, flavourless or just tasting of fat and salt. I'm not fat phobic, but when the overwhelming flavour of the food is the fat, you've not done your job. My son's rare steak was well done, my wife's salmon with marionberry sauce had been left under a heat lamp so long the sauce had a shrinking skin on it and my halibut was so dry you could hardly believe it came from the ocean (the gremolata on top was dried out as well). This is the dinner you would get from a well meaning friend who isn't that good in the kitchen - and you show up an hour late for dinner. Hardly northwest excellence. - The Customers: nearly all of the customers are young families with bratty out of control children or people nearing the end of their lives. The dining room was loud, chaotic and unpleasant. This is not an environment for adults to relax and enjoy a wel prepared dinner (if a well prepared dinner was in fact on offer). - The Price: you're not getting what you pay for. The quality wasn't there or the quality had been cooked out of it. I felt robbed. read more

Great food and no wait during the off season. We dined one night in the lounge and the next in the restaurant. Both nights we were quickly seated and were well attended to by our servers. Food was delicious with large enough portions during happy hour in the lounge. My only disappointment was being seated at the back of the restaurant instead of having a full view of the water, when the restaurant was pretty empty with plenty of tables available. read more

We ate in the lounge since it was between lunch and dinner. It was Saturday so the entire place was packed due to weddings going on outside and the resort being booked. We had to park on the street as the entire parking areas were filled. We had gone there to have raw oysters since they normally have a nice selection fresh. When we asked for the oyster menu we were told they weren't currently selling them due to the time of year?? Odd because the other nice restaurant down the street said they had just ran out. So again we were out of luck with the oyster plan, ugh. We ordered off the bar menu which was fine and quite a bit less expensive than the dinner menu. Hubby had the burger/fries and I had the cod fish/chips along with the roasted beet/goat cheese salad. The salad also mentioned having toasted hazelnuts, blackberries w/honey thyme dressing. When the salad initially came out I instantly realized it was missing the berries so I told the server and she took it and had it added. It was really delicious, the small medallion of fried goat cheese and the toasted nuts really made it. Our meals came out and really looked great. Hubbys burger was mouthwatering with a heap of golden homemade fries. My fish/chips and coleslaw looked delicious too. No complaints, each were about 15 bucks and well worth it. The server had asked if I wanted to upgrade to halibut but was afraid it may cost several dollars more so I didn't and it worked out fine, cod was fresh and flaky with crisp beer batter. Fries were good and their dill tarter sauce was great too. Server was fine, not overly apologetic about the oyster issue even when I stated we drove there craving them and the fact that it stated on their online menu they had them...then forgetting berries on salad but she was attentive. We each had one cocktail which was good, not a strong drink but OK but the coffee was excellent. All in all a tasty satisfying meal and sitting next to the window viewing the wedding party and beautiful grounds/waterfront is always enjoyable. read more

So my girlfriend and I went to the Alderbrook Resort and Spa for a nice little weekend. Part of our experience there was to try the restaurant at the resort. It was nice and convienent and we really really didn't want to drive anywhere for dinner. The Waterfront Restaurant Alderbrook is set in a prime location. It had magnificent view Hood Canal. You could see the Olympic Mountains and the local marina from our seats. I couldn't have asked for a better scenery. The interior of the restaurant is just a nice. It has wood paneling and a warm modern feel to the place. Now on to the food. As an appetizer we order the stuffed mushroom. In the mushroom caps were spinach, artichoke heart, blue cheese, fontina, and a vinaigrette. The mushroom caps were okay. For me the blue cheese overwhelmed the other ingredients in the mushroom caps. I then ordered the miso black cod and my girlfriend ordered the crab cakes. Well to start with the crab cakes were wonderful. I really liked them. The cakes were moist flavorful and well cooked. The crab cakes were served with a side of roasted fingerling potatoes. The potatos were well seasoned and delicious. Now for the miso black cod. That was a different story. The fish was burnt. I didn't think much of it at the time, however after I began eating I noticed there was a bitter taste. I'm guessing it was the burnt miso. The interior of the fish was also slightly over cooked. Usualy when I've have black cod, the fish just easily falls apart and melts in your mouth. This one on the other hand did not. I should have sent it back, I don't know why I didn't. Probably because I was really tired. Now the service at the Waterfront Restaurant was very good. They were polite and prompt. The waiter came back a couple of time to ask how things were going. I'm sure if I had said anything about my food they would have corrected the problem. My overall impression of the food at the Waterfront Restaurant Alderbrook is meh. read more

We celebrated my wife's birthday here with our kids 10,11. We had a window table with an amazing view. I had the beef tartare and son had the Caesar. Tartare was not trimmed of fat. We each had a fish entree (steelhead, halibut) and they were both amazing. Service, however was lousy. After 3 waiters came by with water, we waited 10 min for glasses of bubbly. Long wait also after starters. White bottle was warm. 10 min wait for ice bucket... Kids fries were well over cooked. As if they sat under a heat lamp. Long wait later for dessert. Our waitress abruptly told us "she had a lot going on".... Other tables 2 away with a different server had arrived after us, enjoyed 3 courses and finished before us. We were compt for two two desserts, which was a nice gesture. Meal was pricey- which wasn't a surprise. Most of the dishes were of value for that price (Portland as a comparison) However the service was not able to make up for the other good parts about this restaurant. read more

We ate at the restaurant last night. Started with a Caesar salad (with anchovies), which was the best I've had. Main course salmon, superb. My husband had the ravioli, which was a delicious vegetarian option, served 'open-faced' similiar to an individually prepared lasagna. Finished with dessert cheese plate--excellent, loved the red wine soaked figs. Excellent decaf coffee, which is hard to find. Attentive and skilled wait staff. We were not rushed, sweet. The very high prices kept my rating at 4 instead of 5--would rate at 4.5 if an option. read more

A very enjoyable experience at this restaurant while staying overnight at the resort. Had the best Bloody Mary of my life here... complete with house made tomato juice, just the right blend of spices, and dressed with pickled asparagus, beans, olives, onions, and two imposing crab claws rising up above the rim. There are no shortage of fresh oysters in this region so I tried an oyster stew that was extremely satisfying. I also enjoyed the pan seared scallops - good size serving and perfectly done. Breakfast was also a treat with eggs Benedict and a flavorful hash. The view from the restaurant is fantastic although unfortunately they have a nasty green tent covering their summertime patio equipment. I was told local regulations make it impossible for them to take down and rebuild each summer, which is too bad because it's an eyesore in an otherwise perfect vista. The entree prices ranged from $35-$50 which is about what I expected for a resort in this area. The service was excellent. read more

First time I have felt compelled to review a restaurant for poor food or service. As locals we've supported and enjoyed Alderbrook for years, the setting is sublime but food rarely better than average. I took my family to dinner Saturday 7/26 and had a disappointing and almost surreal experience. We sat outside at the patio restaurant, view is perfect and servers enthusiastic - they even brought food ordered from the upstairs restaurant. My wife and I shared the Seafood Boil, meant for two and priced appropriately (over $30). As locals we know our waters and what to expect. The bucket came with, I kid you not, 4 mussels, 4 Manila clams, 3 small pieces of corn, some soggy poor quality sausage and one quartered potato. No offer to bring more, we were basically told that's how it comes. The capellini with clams came with lot's of clams but no pasta and the server offered to charge only for steamed clams. I was compelled to approach the manager (also a first for me) and he apologized and voided both charges. Other food: baby back ribs were far below average; a hungry teenager did not finish them so that says a lot. The clam chowder was very bland, mostly flour and cubed canned potatoes. Caesar salad dressing was grainy and tasteless. Unbelievable to not get even the basics of Northwest fare. Not many choices on the Canal, perhaps its "we don't care because we don't have to" or it's become corporate dining at Alderbrook Resort. The view and beer are great but we'll picnic on the boat on the way from now on. We've had great meals and service at the Robin Hood Inn a short stroll down the road. I think they lost their chef last spring and we haven't been there this summer yet. read more

Great spot to eat and view the waters of Hood Canal in a wonderful resort setting. Staff very friendly and attentive. Food was good with a basic burger and chicken wrap. Just two suggestions...whoever planned either the height of the railing or the height of the chairs wasn't in sync. The think top railing was just high enough to block a view while sitting down. Bummer. Also, it's a bit outdated to still offer a vegetarian Bean Burger when we now have available the choices of the Impossible Burger and the Beyond Burger. Hope you catch up with the times. read more

Food is pretty good... I was hard-pressed to find much of anything on the menu that wasn't dripping with creamy sauce, fried, or had some sort of alcohol-based sauce. I couldn't even avoid cream in the soups! Not much healthy on that menu.... kind of disappointed by that. also, they need to be a little less enthusiastic when they brown the top of the crème brûlée since it was burnt. On a sidenote, the chèvre cheese cake was fabulous. read more

We stayed at the lodge and so we had dinner here twice. Once I could pass off as a one off but both dinners were really not great. Over 2 hours the first night and 1.5 the second (diff servers). Besides being slow the food was not prepared well. Cesar salad drowning in dressing, kids Mac n cheese flavorless and cold, crab cakes had a lot of crab meat but no flavor, cobbler was undercooked, pasta with chicken came without chicken and even though very slow was lukewarm, could go on. They just didn't seem to have their process very smooth. Didn't bother complaining by the time food came we just wanted to go. Our starters didn't come out for 45 minutes, kitchen said they sent to table and server finally came by and noticed we still didn't have food. Overpriced for the execution. There also weren't any lighter meals which makes eating all meals there difficult. Breakfast service and food was better. We liked most the drinks and the pre dinner bread and butter and breakfast spice bread. read more

This is a beautiful resort and the restaurant has an amazing waterfront view. We stayed at some nearby cottages and came here for breakfast a couple weekends ago. The food was superb! My husband & I agreed the hashbrowns were the best we have ever tasted. The bacon was thick and crispy without any fat or grease. My omelette with goats cheese was creamy delicious. Our server was absolutely adorable, wish I could remember her name. She was very attentive and personable. We will have to come back for dinner sometime when in the area again. read more

I had lunch here on a Saturday and visited a second time for Christmas Brunch. The brunch was lovely, service was excellent and everything was fresh and delicious. No complaints. The lunch experience was another matter. The restaurant was closed so I had to order from the bar's menu. I had a steak salad, while it was delicious it was definitely not worth the price and the meat was poorly seasoned. I imagine dinner here might be a better experience. read more

We drove an hour to have lunch at Alderbrook restaurant. The staff were very accommodating and friendly but unfortunately the food was so salty we couldn't eat it. The fries were so heavily covered in sea salt that they almost were white. The Ruben Sandwich was so salty in every layer it was like eating sea water. You would think the chef would taste the food before they put out. Very disappointed to travel this far and spend this kind of money for food that is not edible. read more

Beautiful view, nice service, excellent food. We had crab cakes, oysters, salmon, filet mignon, and clams. All cooked perfectly. The filet was my favorite. But, it's expensive. Our meal for 4 was $400 (not including tip). But, we ate and drank freely and had a great time. read more

From the fresh seafood to the homemade bread, today's breakfast was simply divine. My coffee cup was always filled with a delicious blend of coffee beans that kept me wanting more. Beautiful setting and quiet atmosphere-we chose to sit away from the families with small children-made this a superb start to a day. Seafood Scramble was my second choice as they had just run out of crab cakes for the Benedict. It was just as good, but i hope to get back to have the crab Benedict. I truly wish I could give more stars. The restaurant is beautiful, the service was great, but we went for the food. And, well, the food wasn't super awesome. The first night we went, we sat at the bar for happy hour. Good happy hour wine, and the sliders, hummus plate, and bread were delicious! If only our dinner on Saturday night was better. We were quickly seated, and waited on by a server that clearly knew what she was doing. She was kind and full of information about the menu. The cheese plate was fantastic! Paired with the wine we got it was incredible. But than we had our main course. My girlfriend got there Home made pasta and sadly it was not good. At all. It tasted like olive oil and water, there were hardly any chunks of vegitables in it, and you could push the pasta to the side of the bowl and see the standing water and oil in the bottom of the bowl. Not good. I got the pork chop, it was cooked very well, had food flavor, but it could have been more hot. The barley was cooked perfectly and I loved the puree, again, it just needed to be warmer. We also got the crispy brussle sprouts, they were pretty good, again, everthing could have been warmer. We sent back the pasta and had it reimbursed and were given free dessert for our anniversary. The best was the ice cream that wasn't even made in house, but OMG it was good. Pumpkin prailene with salted carmel swirl. Yum! We had high hopes for This place as we spent a lot of cash staying at the resort for the weekend, but there were some good things. I guess just a little fine tuning would be needed. read more

My husband and I excitedly stopped by for midday as we recently moved to the area from Arizona. To keep things simple, the service was an embarrassment! We were quickly seated and forgotten about. While viewing the menus all we could be distracted by was the loud gossip behind the bar and the girls loudly speaking against coworkers(so much for enjoying the waterfront view). Furthermore it seemed the server was more interested in her phone than serving us; perhaps the height of the bar was what made her forget we were there? The food was well worth the money and time waited. But the service destroyed the rest of the experience. I would suggest trying another restaurant were adults are serving cocktails and food. We went there expecting the standard mask routine requirement till we got seated like most restaurants, but it seems they hired nurse ratchet as the mask enforcer. Even if you are seated and drinking or eating, If the server comes to your table, you must drop what you're doing and look attentive and put on that mask you cretin. Your sever has important things to say and you can't be eating or drinking when they're present. No mind that she is not even close to your table by more than 5 feet. It's the rules man. So I learned to keep my mask close, as I was already chastised by a manager when we first sat down and our server for looking at my phone and looking out the window not realizing she was hovering with some important waitress question like, "how's the food". Quick, put down your drink, drop your fork put on your mask and PAY ATTENTION! Hanging the mask from your ear is a bit bad form besides it looks like Joe Biden. So we remained ever alert to the sneaking waitress who could be lurking around the corner ready to pounce and we'd get another demerit. It made eating a paranoid event and, true they just opened yesterday after embedding all these new rules. I did think the servers long blue plastic gloves, heavy duty face mask and grey hospital smock were nice touches. Kind of helped to set the mood that we could soon find ourselves in electroshock therapy with Nurse Ratchet if we didn't cooperate. I gave them two stars because the food was good. Very limited menu at this time. Rib-eye was $52 but I'd rather roast one over an open flame for $15 and not have to endure the mask protocol. Not ready for prime time. read more

This really bothers me to write a negative review as the Alderbrook property is very beautiful, however, this is for the food only. The first annoying issue was our table. It was the size of a cocktail table, not a dinner table. The server struggled to fit the bread and plates, our drinks, candle, and silverware on it. I had a reservation but the feel was they didn't have enough space and threw the kiddie table in between 2 real tables for us. I'm very disappointed in the food as everything on the menu sounded amazing. The calamari app needs help and I feel it can be salvaged as I could tell the quality of the calamari itself was good. The breading was just okay, and this dish needs seasoning, salt, pepper, something, anything. It's also too small to share. The clam chowder is very bland, once again, needs seasoning. No salt or pepper on the tables so I had to wait to doctor up the clam chowder. I love clam chowder and this one doesn't make my top 25 list. My main course was the duck confit and it was over cooked, some parts were crunchy. I had a bite of my date's "crispy" Brussels sprouts and this is what took my review from 2 stars to 1. This stuff wasn't crispy, it was so black and charred that we each took one bite and gave each other the look of failure. Nothing but a charcoal after taste, sad. When our server removed it she should have noticed 2 things, 1 it was burnt, and 2, we didn't eat it but she said nothing. My dessert was the molten chocolate cake and ice cream with a black coffee. I cut into the cake and not one drop of chocolate came out. Unfortunately, it was closer to an upside down heated Hostess Ding Dong. I believe my coffee was also instant, it was not good at all. When our plates came out they were so hot we couldn't touch them, a sign our food was sitting under the heat lamps too long. This experience bummed me out as it was our Valentine's Day dinner night since I work on the 14th. So, all in all, it was a $200 mistake. Very sad, this place is so pretty and the view from our window was perfect. The Alderbrook restaurant is the equivalent to owning a new Mercedes with a blown engine. read more

Given the minimal options in the area - the Alderbrook restaurant is A-OK. some dishes better than others. Stayed for 2 nights and 3 days. Here's what was good: Kids Menu (seriously) -- fish & chips (real halibut) for $7 - it was better than some of the actual meals we had and portions were decent. Lamb chops (w/mint pesto), Sole w/curry & couscous -- very good. Porkchop & braised cornish game hens ~ just A-OK . The apps in my opinion were overpriced and just mediocre (Grand Marnier Prawns, Tenderloin Gratin , Mussels) I'd skip and start with a salad. Wine list was odd -- lots of great selections (but the good bottles were marked up 70 - 100% in my opinion) Service was good - and the ambiance is gorgeous. I'm still unsure on whether the view is worth $500 for 4 people... f you are lucky to stay at one the cottages with a full kitchen, I highly suggest bringing some quick fix dinners as there isn't a decent mini mart nearby. Breakfast was better than dinner. Chicken fried steak & cinnamon roll french toast was amazing - mushroom omelet with goat cheese was also noteworthy - still an arm and a leg ($100+ for 3 dishes n coffee yikes!) Don't get me wrong, i'll likely be back b/c this resort is so fabulous - and this is the only place to get grub. However, I'll be more prepared the next time round... read more

I have never seen a menu so bad! Chef needs to be more involved! Calamari was soggy and lacking flavor. No wonder why no salt was available. Halibut was perfectly cooked but served on a chowder that was horrible. Menu change needed! In 30 years in the business I haven't seen a more terrible menu! Chicken Breast meal was horrible. If you want to burn $100+ dollars light a hundred dollar bill on fire and get McDonald's! Went here because of the view and left with only salt and bread on my pallet. Spent $105 and had to get dinner after! Food was over reached and gross! I didn't eat most of it but still regret going there. Won't go back unless I can advise on the menu! Need to take the wind from the chef. If you want to have dinner with one couple making out at there table this is your place. It is no wonder why this place is empty, bad menu! read more

The property is beautiful. We went on a Sunday and sat out on the patio. The burgers and chicken wraps were good. The service was less than good. I ordered a coffee with milk and did not get the milk. Our server didn't come back so I had to walk up to the bar to ask for milk. They didn't have any. I then had to wait 10 minutes for someone to get milk. Our server forgot my daughters lemonade so we had to ask for that again and received it when our food came. Our server never came back to check on us and we had to finally get her attention just to get out check. Disappointed. read more

I really wanted to give this 3.5. The location, view and wait staff was definitely 5 stars. We had three meals there and all could be given different reviews. We began with lunch, my husband had a Caesar salad and I had Butternut Squash Bisque soup. My husband enjoyed his salad and I loved my soup, but it arrived only luke warm. Our dinner later that night was very good. We had a calamari appetizer which was excellent and we both had the rib eye steak which was good. It wasn't outstanding my any means, but cooked to our standards and served on top of their own style mashed potatoes with green beans. It was a good portion as well. The next morning we had breakfast of bacon, eggs, and potatoes. We both ordered our scrambled eggs in a specific way and they arrived as requested. My potatoes, however, just warm. My husband had the Alderbrook Potato Hash which looked very good but was not even as warm as my potatoes. After speaking to the waitress she brought him a hot portion which he was very happy with. It was obvious there are few places to dine over there, but even knowing that, for the price of the meals, I think there is much room for improvement. It wasn't busy when we were there so why three things we ordered came out barely warm is beyond me. The restaurant caters to everyone. I noticed comments about babies and older folk. We noticed people of ALL ages there. When we went in for lunch the hostess attempted to seat us a a table next to a young, fussy, toddler. I said, no, that wouldn't do as there were several other tables available. She was more than happy to oblige. I really wanted to come away from this place singing their praises, but I can't. It's good, and if you don't worry about what you are paying for an average meal, then you will be happy as well. Again, the waitstaff was excellent and we appreciated their attentiveness and willingness to help. read more

This restaurant has a new chef now and his new menu is amazing. The breakfast menu has everything you could want and anything that's not on there they can usually put together for you anyways. The Lunch menu has a good variety of soups, salads and sandwiches all at a good price. The dinner menu is a little spendier but it is worth it. From the steaks to the seafood, it's to die for. Simply amazing. Also, the service is great. You have to try it to know what I mean. I don't have anything bad to say about this place. They are very accommodating and you will always find something good to eat, even if they have to make something special because of your dietary needs. read more

And the views....amazing, worth the stop alone. I love going to eat a Alderbrook, the staff seems a bit dingy at times, some are better than others, but the food makes up for it. My husband and I decided to celebrate my birthday at the Alderbrook Inn Restaurant. I cannot begin to tell you what a wonderful dinner we had. My husband and the Berkshire Pork Chop with smoked mushrooms, cheddar polenta and sherry glaze. I had the Halibut with cipollini onions, fingerling potatoes and chanterelle mushrooms. The dinners were cooked to perfection. The service was fantastic, great atmosphere, and a wonderful view. read more

My dad and I ate at this restaurant last night and to say the least it was lousy. the service was terrible, very slow and when they messed up our meals by bringing the wrong meal out all we were told by the waitress was she had hit the wrong button. we promptly ordered more drinks and after they had screwed up our meal order still had to wait a good 10 minutes for our drinks to arrive. The food was under par, my dad had scallops and fava beans there were way more fava beans than anything else, I understand that you can't make money by giving a lot of scallops but 4 or 5 semi small scallops in a dish is rather disappointing. I had their steak and it was mostly tasteless, the cuscus need some type of a sauce as it was very dry and unappealing. the best part of the dish were the roasted carrots they were good, but we didn't pay 40 dollars for 3 roasted carrots. I would not recommend eating here and we will never be back. read more
