My wife and I went here for a second time today. Food is good, service is good. My wife got the pesto pasta and i got the waterloo special which comes with roast chicken and ribs. The bad: A few small things they only have garlic bread available during lunch hour, and i was a bit disappointed they didn't have mashed potatoes only baked potato. Their signature bbq sauce was slightly too sweet for me but my wife loved it. The location is kinda out there but that doesn't deter this place from being packed. They are doing something right. The good: They were busy but the staff remained very attentive. Our orders came out quick. I was impressed with the staff and their service. When our waitress got busy other waitresses would pop in and check on us. The pesto pasta was good, slightly salty but because of the parmesan, would get again. The ribs were juicy and fall off the bone. The entree portion sizes are big you will definitely be taking leftovers. Also the waitresses box your food for you which i love the few restaurants that continue this tradition. The waitress also hooked us up with extra bread to go when they were packing out food. They even hooked us up with a free bottle of bbq sauce last time we were there. I did a pick up order and service was relatively fast for such a busy day like Valentine's Day. I got the rib dinner with the pesto pasta, clam chowder and a red velvet cake. The ribs were dry and overcooked. The taste was decent but probably a slower cook with more sauce would've helped. For the pesto pasta it was a decent side, but nothing to rave about. Clam chowder was good not too thick or thin. The cake was dry but the icing they used was tasty and they did a nice design for Valentine's Day. Overall decent meal. Maybe there would be better attention to the food if you eat in? For the price I wouldn't get to go. Took a drive to meet with family halfway between Elk Grove and Modesto. This place takes you back to the 1970's or even the 1870's real quick. You gotta love having to walk through the bar to get to the restaurant! It's awesome! The ambiance is wonderful. Very airy and lots of good vibes. Food was very good! Best New York steak I've had in a long time! Everything was spot on. Our server was a young Hispanic lady with Rosey cheeks, I wish I had gotten her name. They have a lot of support staff. Our server was so on top of everything and was just a joy. I liked the way all the servers worked as a team! The only reason for the four stars instead of five was the dessert. We all got peach cobbler for $9. We got four or fives spoons of peach filling with out meal on top and a scoop of ice cream. It was very disappointing. After a day of wine tasting we were taken here by my family that lives nearby in Linden. They were busy when we arrived and got totaly packed 20mins later. The wine selection is great showcasing local wineries, lots of great priced wine from Lodi. The specialty here is the mushroom bread bowl. OMG it was freaking delicious!!! We tore that up! The riblets soft and juicy and the baskets of bread never empty. Staff was young and always joking with us. Good service all around. We ordered the steak ($42) with salad and pesto pasta and split it. There was plenty for both of us, they split the salad too. Steak was the best I've had outside of Fleming's in SJ! This is a fantastic restaurant to visit on the way from Kirkwood back to the bay area. We have been here many times, and somehow it is always packed even midweek. Amazingly they were able to sit the 2 of us, as promised, in just 10 minutes. After making our choices we didn't have to wait long to get served our appetizer and the main course followed soon after. The ribs and steak we ordered were amazing, just what one needs after a full day of hitting the slopes. We definitely left very satisfied. The staff was very friendly and helpful. There were 14 people in our group, which took up 2 separate tables. We understood that they won't split checks, but they combined both tables on one check. It was difficult calculating what people had ordered (incl. tax & tip) since we had no idea what the other table ordered. After figuring out what each couple ordered and calculating it all, we passed the check over to the other table so they could identify their order and get their money together. The food and service was good, but this lack of effort on at least splitting the check for each table, overshadows the quality of my sandwich. They also charge $2.50 for sharing a plate and another $2.50 to substitute coleslaw for potato salad. It's also unbelievable that they do not have French fries. read more
