Good food and service. Just wish the menu were a bit more expansive - both in terms of the food and the wine (only 3 wines by the glass - a Sauvignon Blanc, a bubbly, and a red wine blend). The salmon bruschetta, clams appetizer, sockeye salmon entree, and meatloaf were all pretty good. The poached pear salad left something to be desired. Our friend loved the bacon wrapped chicken but our other friend seemed disappointed in the pork loin. The bread basket was a bit underwhelming. The red wine blend was average. The Watershed Cafe is a very nice restaurant in Leavenworth, a little bit off of the Main Street. It is popular, so it pays to get reservations. Overall the food was good, but a little overpriced for what you get. It looks like the menu rotates, so what we had may not be available at another time. Service was friendly, but they seemed spread thin and slow at times. We started with a bottle of wine. The wine list is not large, but we found a good bottle of red. For an appetizer, we had bruschetta. It was good, slightly different than what I was used to with the cherry tomatoes just cut in half. For the main course, I had pork that came with potatoes croquette and a mustard sauce. The pork was cooked very well, but a little bland and it could have used more of the sauce. We should have known this place is a joke after seeing the Heirloom Tomato Caprese. For $19 we got HALF of a tiny burrata. And then come artisan bread and butter with non toasted bread. It saddens me to have to say this as Watershed was the first great meal my wife and I had when we visited years ago, but it just isn't the same. It still has a good location and decent vibe. And I know there has been some ownership changes but its slide into true mediocrity is complete. The service was fairly slow and inattentive especially for a very dead night. Wonderful option for upscale dining in Leavenworth! We made reservations in advance to sit outside and had a lovely view of Post Hotel and the river. They have great drinks and a small, seasonal menu with fresh options on it. I am gluten free and found that there were a lot of great options for me. I ended up getting the sweet potato and was able to sub butter for olive oil. The food was flavorful and unique, lots of interesting flavors and textures. My boyfriend got the meatloaf and found it to be rich and flavorful as well. This place is a bit more expensive than other spots in Leavenworth, but is a wonderful option for anyone looking to celebrate a special occasion or experience some higher end eating. read more

My first time in Leavenworth and our crew was staying at the Posthotel. The Watershed is a stone throw from the hotel and was peppered with great reviews on yelp. The entrance passes some outdoor seating (which on a nice day might have the best views for dining) and traditions to a beautiful lobby / bar area. Aromas from the open kitchen fill the hostess/bar space which further raised my expectations of the meal ahead. We ordered a round of drinks and the bruschetta as an appetizer (highly recommended). Our waitress was thoughtful in adding a forth piece as the order of 3 would have excluded a member of our party. Unfortunately the service / experience went south from here. I won't dwell on the details but would leave these two suggestions: 1. Tone, demeanor and delivery matter when you are speaking with guests. The message / policy won't matter if it's delivered with care. 2. Leaving your guests food under the heat lamp will ultimately taint (dry out well prepared meals in this instance) even the best prepared dish. We still tipped the 20% and will archive the $300+ dollar bill under lessons learned. Before you leave this planet your life is not complete until you get a slab of Million Dollar Meatloaf from the Watershed in Leavenworth, WA. We decided to kick out the stops for a nice dining experience on a Sunday evening. The Watershed came recommended by friends so we jumped. The building is on a side street by the Post Hotel. It's brick construction with hardwood floors and dim lighting. The seating is tables with no booths but one wall is bench style with pillows to cushion your back. They specialize in farm to table items so the menu can change periodically. I think a few entrees are staples and don't change. Everything is as fresh as it can be. I chose the Million Dollar Meatloaf and Mrs Billy D had a bacon wrapped chicken breast which looked straight out of a cuisine magazine. All I heard out of her were yummy noises. We began with cocktails. I am not a drinker but I thought I would try the ultimate adult drink. The Old Fashioned. It was heavenly and I am not a whiskey drinker. The flavors were very good. There was some kind of spice in it. I can't say if all Old Fashioned's are like that though. Our server was very good. I can tell she is a professional. Okay... the meatloaf was dense and usually comes with whipped potatoes and you know from my reviews I think whipped and mashed potatoes are reprehensible in every way. They gave me some roasted zucchini and asparagus instead. They put the morel mushroom gravy on the vegetables (whipped potatoes, if you aren't me) then the slab of meatloaf on top. The whole thing is very good and flavorful. This is a rich dish so be prepared to put in some work if you get it. I've never paid $41 for meatloaf but I knew that going in so there was no ahh sh*t moment. We got out of there for about $136 minus the tip for two entrees, two cocktails, and an appetizer. After reading the great reviews I convinced the husband we had to try this place out. We managed to get in a little later than the usual dinner hour as they had a pretty long waiting list every night for dinner. When we arrived, their small dining area was still full but they served us at a rustic wooden bistro height table in the bar area. The atmosphere is beautiful with intimate lighting, brick walls, and natural wood decor. I loved the centerpiece of the long table we were at with the natural river rocks. Our server was friendly and helped to point out what gluten free items I could have on their menu. The menu is pretty limited so gf items were also sparse. I ordered the pear and arugula salad with candied pecans which was light and fresh. For my main I had their seasonal fish entree with cubed sweet potato. It was pretty good and plated beautifully, though the husband and I both agreed it needed a bit more seasoning. It was an all around pretty good little meal that we had and we really appreciated them squeezing us in so we could sample some of their tasty menu options. Can it get any better? No, it really can't. The only complaint I can see about this amazing place is the cost. It's expensive, but every single bit is worth it. We have been numerous times and are always BEYOND happy. The FOOD: The million-dollar (Or $42) meatloaf is named appropriately for two reasons, it's expensive...but it is really that good. I had bacon-wrapped chicken in a pesto. Brilliant flavor, color, and presentation. The salmon was fresh and delicious, flakey and perfect. And The vegetarian dish this time was a squash, apple type thing. Dang incredible. I have never been sad eating here. THE DRINKS: Also delicious. We like our mixed drinks, and the old-fashioned and Negroni were perfecto. The wine was fantastic too. Perfectly paired. Our dinner here had the potential to be a 5-star experience. Overall, food was probably a 4.5/5 - delicious clams and cocktails and the entrees were perfectly cooked. My husband thought the meatloaf was a bit overpriced for what he got, but it was very tasty and I have no complaints about the pork tenderloin I had - phenomenal! Given the limited and honestly subpar dining options in Leavenworth, this is definitely one of the best options in town, albeit on the pricey side. Just a couple things that were a little upsetting about our dinner and reasons I took off a star: - We made a dinner reservation for 2 people far in advance and when we arrived it almost seemed like they didn't plan for us to show up? We waited about 5 minutes and then were asked if we would eat at the "chef's table" which really ended up meaning at the bar with stools with no back support. After a 5 hour drive, we were looking forward to sitting at a normal table to dine and were disappointed that we had to sit at the bar after having made a reservation and spending as much as we did on dinner. - Our reservation was for 8pm on Friday. They technically close at 9, so I do understand rushing us a little bit, but we ordered the berry cobbler for dessert and had seen all the other cobblers come out from the kitchen 5 minutes before ours in nice dishes, and then we were served ours in this tin (see picture). The cobbler stuck to the tin and was difficult to eat. I won't be too harsh given our reservation was for an hour before they closed and the food was delicious overall, but I guess I wish they wouldn't allow you to make a dinner reservation that late if you aren't going to get the full dining experience you pay for. read more

Honestly do not want to make this review, but it's honest. We were greeted and seated promptly, the waitress did her best but we were quickly left unattended at our seats. We both got served our beverages after the two people who were seated after us. Was also served by the bartender, almost as if it was an after thought. I ordered the halibut. Came out dry and overcooked and in such a small portion. Meatloaf was okay, not the best. For what they charge the service should be more attentive and the food should not be overcooked. The portioning of the fish was also not representative of it being the nicest/most expensive item on the menu. I would have preferred being refused a seat over being sat and getting that service. Went on a Monday night which has a special menu, all entrees were $22. Unfortunately there were only about 5 entrees the choose from. My waitress recommended the meatloaf. Great choice! Big cut of meatloaf over mash potato, some string beans and mushrooms. I would definitely order this again. They have some outdoor seating and it was a perfect night to eat outside. We came up to Leavenworth for a second year in a row to see a bit of Christmas cheer and had dinner here on our first night. Food was excellent, particularly the clams, the pomegranate salad, the salmon--everything. Only issues: the service, while friendly and courteous, was a tiny bit on the slow side, and while the space is low-key and charming, it must not be well-ventilated, because our clothes smelled strongly of food afterwards. If you want the gist: It's WAY overpriced, under-delivered, mediocre food, and the service was terrible. Food: There are very limited main dishes to order. Five total when I attended in Sept 2022. We were a group of 12 celebrating a 40th birthday for a friend. My best friend ordered the meatloaf because it's supposed to be great. He responded, "It's good... but it's still just meatloaf. Definitely not worth $42." It was a small portion and he was still hungry afterwards. I ordered a yellow fin tuna salad for $21 assuming there would be... ya know... tuna in it. I love sushi and thought this would have some substance. It was literally a white plate with a pile of JUST greens. Four narrow and very thin (think carrot peeler thin) bits of fish on the bottom. That's it. I wouldn't have paid $5 for this let alone $21. Other dishes followed the same suit in being small, not satisfying, and not particularly impressive. We got a few drinks. My Old Fashioned was decent. Service: The lady serving us had a scoul on her face the entire time, never smiled, and became grouchy when we asked for separate checks. To avoid her continued annoyance, we just told her to split it six ways and hoped she'd go away. If you go and get the white female in her late forties/early fifties, just leave. My friend is a celiac and ordered gluten free bread and butter (an $8 side believe it or not). She brought out regular bread and became obviously annoyed with my friend for reminding her that she can't have gluten and had asked for gluten free. My friend is the sweetest woman on earth. Somehow the server managed to make my friend feel guilty for not just eating the given bread and getting sick... Overall: I can't imagine this place would remain in business in any normal place but in Leavenworth shops thrive on ignorant tourists who don't know any better. Fantastic farm-to-table dining experience for a recent birthday trip to Leavenworth. Every bite of our dinner was an 'oh-my-gosh this is amazing' kind of experience. I had an Albacore Tuna Special and my wife had the Meatloaf. Both were quite distinct, yet executed perfecty with rich, complex flavors, perfect textures, and hearty portions. House cocktails, beer and wine paired wonderfully. Impressed by the quality and value (did I mention large portions?) The 'Chef's Table' is basically a bar seat at the salad station which was fine (and the only reservation we could get on short notice), but sitting outside on a nice evening would only add to the experience. We reserved a table here a few weeks ago to celebrate my fiancés and my birthday (they are one day apart). You have to put a down payment of $20 to hold the table. We had a good amount of options but chose this restaurant because of their reviews. We were a little disappointed when the waitress let us know that because their sous chef was stuck in traffic there were no appetizers or salads available (which was half of the menu). My fiancé ordered the meatloaf and I ordered the pork chop. The food had a nice presentation and an array of flavors but a little pricey at $42 per plate. When we arrived for our special Valentine's dinner, we were told our seats were "outdoors": a deck walkway with a long counter along the outside "wall" consisting of a sheet of plywood from counter level down, a clear vinyl window above, and some overhead electric heaters. So far, okay...we've eaten at any number of radiantly heated, outdoor seating venues and were fine. If we had known, we would have brought some "lap blankets". But it's was cold...34 deg F. We wrapped up in wool scarves & winter coats, with the heat from above barely noticeable, and settled in, ordered cocktails, appetizers, and entrees. Our conversation became a little sporadic by the time our cocktails arrived 45 minutes after ordering. The drinks were...okay, (iced!) but at least a little alcohol-induced vasodilation gave us a brief illusion of warmth until core body temperature slowly dropped. Finally the appetizers (roasted red pepper & sprouts on baguette slices: excellent!) arrived at about an hour. We noticed that with our napkins on our laps we felt a tiny bit less chilly. We got an apology from our waitress about how busy they were. I asked if there was any space inside to which we could escape from the chill, but sadly she checked with her supervisor and returned with a "no". I asked if the additional patio heater sitting close by could be turned on. We were they had forgotten to refill the propane tank. Finally I just escorted my wife into the restaurant to await our main courses. We stood around like a couple of homeless people in a $$$ rated restaurant for about 20 min., enviously eyeing the warm camaraderie of our indoor table competitors. I tried not to look like a snarling wolf. I asked about another stretch of indoor counter space, but again, was told it was reserved for someone yet to arrive. Our waitress announced the arrival of our roasted salmon and roasted sweet potato main courses, so back to our exile in the great "outdoors". They agreed to set us up at a slightly taller "round table" which got out heads a foot closer to the elusive overhead heaters, still about 7 feet above us. Like the wolves we felt ourselves to be, we tore into our meals (again, excellent), hoping for a metabolic boost to keep us warm before hypothermia set in again. Finally, like a Royal Canadian Mounted Police rescuer, another staffer came out and cheerfully said he would place us at the bar stools in front of the bar. Suppressing tears of gratitude, we filed back inside and gratefully consumed the rest of our meal. When the 3 figure tab came at the end, I noticed that someone had deducted a $20 "tock" from the bill. Thank you for that!! I still gave our waitress (who had been working there since 7 a.m.!) a decent 20% tip, figuring there were issues beyond her control that created most of our distress. But I did jot a few thoughts on the bill before returning it with the payment: 1. Double the number of overhead heaters so that really cold weather would not turn the deck space into a meat locker. 2. Also maybe a bit more insulation on the plywood "wall"? 3. Make sure the large patio heater sitting 5 feet from us, silent and cold, has a full propane tank. (We were told it was empty.) 4. Consider balancing the staff to customer ratio a little more conservatively in anticipation of high volume, low temperature days like this Valentine's Day. Finally....this is a "First world problem"... We had great food, and more than few ironic laughs at our laughable, "Valentine's Freeze Out". Many, many people in our world, heck, in our country, would have happily changed places with us. So, several lessons to be learned all around! read more

The space has a cozy ambience and after seating down I ordered a gin & tonic, salmon bruschetta, and pork tenderloin main. G&T was, well, G&T, but I had issues with the rest. What you get for $18 in the bruschetta is 3 slices of the $2 grocery store brand French loaf covered in a few pieces of salmon, alfalfa sprouts and some drops of balsamic vinegar. The $40 pork tenderloin was tender enough but the flavor just wasn't there. The service was... fine. Yes, it's pricey, but it's Leavenworth, so I don't expect it to be cheap. The service was very good and the food was AMAZING! I had the Roasted White Sweet Potato with apple relish, almonds, sunflowers sprouts, chimichurri and black rice. Everything was absolutely delicious. The blend of the tastes was so good. My daughter had the Wild Alaska Sockeye Salmon with polenta, butternut relish and lemon dill butter sauce. Also delicious. And we had the artisan bread, which I enjoyed in general, but it had a little burned portion which impacted the taste of the whole slice I had. There were five or six slices of bread and butter, so it was a generous portion. We didn't save room for dessert or I would have tried the berry cobbler.
