Called to see about getting my watch repaired. I asked him if he does repairs and he said "Like replacing a battery? Of course I can. Been doing this for 52 years." I told him it was just a link that needed to be replaced and that I would be over in a few minutes. He then said, "Call back when you have more time. We're closed." I honestly didn't know what he was talking about since online it says they're open until 6. I told him that and he said "Well it depends on where you're looking. Anyway, we're closed. We close at 4. I've come here a few times now. The first time I came was during the height of the pandemic. I needed to find a screw back for some diamond earrings that my husband gifted me over 15 years ago. Kenny was very friendly and able to help me. I was happy that he found a solution, and I even ended up picking up a new pair of earrings that caught my eye. More recently, I came b/c I lost one of the backs on the new pair. I don't normally buy jewelry and don't know how much things cost nowadays. The woman who helped me was slightly condescending. Her tone in answering my questions was unfriendly. Maybe that's how she talks? It just didn't feel particularly welcoming. When she told me that it would cost about $75 to $100 to find a matching back for my earrings, I remarked that I just need something to keep my earring in place and it didn't have to be precious metal. She did help me find an affordable solution, sterling silver backs for $15. Since they are helpful, I would come back again if I had a specific issue. read more

Please do not EVER take your fine jewelry here! I would give 0 stars if I could. I went to get my engagement ring resized. He said it would be ready in a few days and he would call me once it's ready because if it snows in Boston it would delay it. I did not appreciate his lack of urgency. I dropped it off on Tuesday and by Friday I hadn't heard anything. So I called them and he said " I can't find it, I don't know where it is." This is a 100 year old diamond ring that he couldn't find. Of course my heart sank and I was absolutely livid. He asked me what receipt number it was because he does everything on paper. 30 minutes later he called me back to say he knows where the ring is. He outsources the repairs apparently. At this point I just wanted to get my ring back. I was so upset and terrified that he did not take care of a family heirloom. One pro tip: It's cheaper if you pay cash. I walked in to this place with my watch to have the battery replaced. He installed the battery and I gave him a legitimate non-expired coupon for a free battery. He would not take it saying that I was not a regular customer and that you are here just for the free battery. So I said take the battery out. And he did. In the process he cracked the crystal glass. And would not take responsibility for it. I walked out. Should have called the police and taken him to small claims court. He became mean and nasty. And threw me out of the store. Complained to the other Marcou location. They know of his behavior. And have distanced themselves from him. The locations are not connected. The worst experience I have ever had in a retail store. Beware. Do not step in this store. I hope enough people take this action and he goes out of business. read more

I've been reviewing for years now and have yet to write a wholly negative review, but this store is in desperate need of one. When the owner's brother, Doug Marcou, owner of the Belmont branch, tells you this place isn't worth dealing with, you should count that as a sign. This store in Arsenal Mall is closed at hours when it purports to be open (I got there at 10, 11, and 11:30. Store info and mall info say it opens at 10), doesn't answer calls during business hours, and I have been trying for 24 hours now to get in touch with someone--anyone!--to no avail. "Great salesman, but he pulls this kind of thing all the time" were the exact words from Doug. That says it all. My advice is shop elsewhere. read more

Me and my friend went to replace batteries for our watches and we are never going back again and don't recommend at all. He said my Maurice Lacorix watch is a piece of sh*t because he couldn't take the battery out. I was shocked how long it took him to take the battery out. He broke the bracelet pin and finally gave up and said that he has to give to his guy to fix it. It took a week and finally got it back and now I realize my stopwatch isn't working. This guy is a joke and literally talks like one. He swears like he is your buddy but don't be fooled. He couldn't open my friend's Tissot watch. He had no idea what battery to use for his Movado watch. You could see his hands were shaking when he was trying to open the watch. He looked like he was on some kind of drug. I don't know maybe he is good at jewelry stuff but PLEASE KEEP YOUR WATCHES OUT OF THIS GUY's hand. He will make every attempt to ruin them. Lesson learned-you pay peanuts, you get monkeys. And this guy, I thought he was pretty reasonable for battery replacement but very costly! read more

I went in to have a small repair done on a gold earring. I was quoted $30 for the work, which I was willing to have done. I also needed to have the battery of my Seiko watch changed. I came back to be pick up the watch and was told there was good news and bad news. The good news was that the jeweler was done with the watch. The bad news was that the crown had broken and it would cost $25 or more to repair it. The owner was quite flip about the whole thing. I wasn't convinced that he hadn't done something wrong. So I decided not to leave the watch with him, and also decided against having him handle the earrings (after all, I had entrusted him w/ my watch and it had met with an unfortunate fate). I went to another jeweler, who quoted me $15 to have the earrings repaired and said he would have the watch fixed only if it was going to be $20 at most. This jeweler fixed the earrings nicely and for half the price I would have paid at Marcou's. He also had the watch fixed for $20. He advised not to pull so hard on the crown next time: I told him I had not pulled so hard but some other jeweler who was to change the battery. I am convinced the Marcou owner pulled too hard and thus should have repaired the watch and not charge me for his mishandling. He even admitted that this sort of thing never happened to Seikos, which are excellent and sturdy watches. In addition, he was overcharging for things at quite an extortionate rate. I will never set foot in that store again. And I would strongly advise any one to steer clear of it. read more

Ken Marcou makes jewelry shopping a breeze .. He is a great man and goes the extra mile to make sure his customers are satisfied and well taking care of. I have purchased multiple times from Kenny. Most recently my wedding ring. When we placed the order for a specific band it was not in stock as I started to stress and think oh boy I'm gonna have no ring for my wedding .. Kenny and his sister Kathy did everything possible to make sure my ring was there on time for my wedding. I actually like the ring they got me better than the one I originally picked..
