Steakhouse Burger w/ Chili, fried pickles, cheesy bacon cheese curds
    Damien K.

Well, they finally have opened up here. Have gone twice with the family doing takeout. Overall the food is good, burgers are the highlight. Fried pickles are ok, and the fries are honestly not that great. Go with the fried cheese curds and you will be happy. Service has been friendly but somewhat chaotic it felt. Granted they just opened so I'm sure as time goes they will hit the groove. As for ambiance, its got some table and counter space. Off hours i'm sure it is easy to find a spot, but come during peak meal imes and seating will be an issue. As mentioned we have done to go, and that probably was the best bet.

    SWEET BACON BURGER

I was hoping this would be better than our fav. fast food burger, Mooyah. Instead, I was so disappointed. Tasted like an overpriced dry McDonald's burger. Try the burger plain. It's gross and the bread and condiments don't help. It was so smushed I had to peel the wrapper off snd it was still a mess. Not fresh at all. Not juicy. Looks like we will be sticking with Mooyah or even go to McD's for the same tasting burger at a fraction of the price. The cupcake was a nice touch, but got soggy in the milkshake. It would have made a nice dessert, but I had to dig it out and eat it first before it got too soggy. Not impressed by the shake. Fries were bland and cold. 2 stars because the staff was so friendly and eager to help. 0 for the food.

Food was fine, but nothing special. Seems a bit pricey, especially since our urger was overcooked.

I cant believe that I am actually writing a review for Ground Round. The last time that I was in…read moreone, Yelp didn't exist. So, when a good friend called and told me that there was a new one that opened in Shrewsbury, it was off to the races. I had to experience this. Service: We got seated nearly instantaneously when we got in the door and the place was already quite busy by the time that we got there. My friend got a salad of some sort with a sandwich and I got one of their signature burgers. The waitress appeared in a timely fashion, took the orders, had drinks on the table in no time, and was very attentive to any and all needs. Ambiance: It was on a Saturday during sports season, so there was a lot of noise and chaos going on, but that is always how I remembered the Ground Round. It is NOT a restaurant that you are going to read a good book in. The fact that this restaurant also had high cathedral ceilings which increased the acoustics, made it a little more unbearable for people who like quieter spots. But to me and my friend, it was not a dealbreaker. Food: After all, what were we doing there for anyways, but the food? It was very good. She enjoyed her dish, and my burger was actually one of those "skyscraper" burgers that are impossible to grip with two hands or get into your mouth for a bite. After dining at the Ground Round again, I am moderately confident that I could take a bite out of the Prudential Center if the need arose. Don't get me wrong, the burger was tasty, juicy, and done to perfection, but it was yuuuuge. Overall, if I could give the Ground Round a 1/2 a star I would make my rating of them a 4 and a 1/2 stars venue. I will definitely be back and look forward to meeting my friend there again for lunch. :) -S

First timer visit to Ground Round in Shrewsbury. I got to say it didn't live up to my expectations…read more It was a recent Thursday evening; I walked in at 8pm and immediately had a bad feeling. First, the place was DEAD, aside from several patrons in the bar area; about the same in the dining room. I noticed the lighting was off, way off; it's like the kind hazy fluorescent lighting that gives you a migraine. Second, the music playing was barely audible; I would expect to hear really good nostalgic music from the 70s & 80s (you know what would make this place fun??? A JUKEBOX!!!). I ordered the Ground Rounder and was disappointed; I don't like cheese and it came with cheese; I wish the server asked if I wanted cheese; I know, I know, the description on the menu says it comes with cheese; my bad BUT I don't like cheese on my burger. I wish it came on a sesame bun or bulky roll; the pretzel roll just sucks IMHO. Also, please remember the old time Ground Rounder came with Steak Fries back in the day; today, this one comes with grease-sticks -- stubby reconstituted dehydrated potatoes formed to resemble French fries which wick the grease from the Fryolator, UGH! For the burger, I prefer lettuce, tomato and onion over cheese and bacon any day of the week. The service was good, which is the only reason I gave my review 2 stars. Overall, a disappointment, but with some tweaks it might have a chance. As is, it's not going to be around very long. Please please please rectify the suggestions outlined above and I'll reconsider coming back. I'm sorry, but until then I can't recommend to my friends.

It had lots of fresh mashed potatoes on top, ground beef and corn. I was surprised by the corn's presence and absence of peas and carrots. It was still really tasty, just a bit unexpected. My friend got an omelette with 3 pancakes. The pancakes had a bit of a tough texture on one side, but still good. We got an order of fried shrimp that was excellent with some delicious cocktail sauce. Service from Mary was very friendly, welcoming, and pleasant. While the building is dated, it is authentic and was a joy to visit. My friend was well prepared with cash as it is a cash-only establishment.

Upon walking inside, you'll immediately feel like you've gone back in time. It gives off a very classic, old-fashioned diner feel, with booth seating and red stools along the counter. Important to note that this place is cash only. Lobster and other seafoods are advertised as their specialty both online and within the restaurant. I never had a lobster roll before, and unfortunately, this place made me think lobster rolls were mediocre and overrated (and then I had my life changed by lobster rolls from other places). FOOD: Lobster Roll (6 oz.) (2.75/5) - I opted for mine to be served warm with butter. It came with a side of slaw and very generous portion of onion rings and fries. The lobster roll itself was lukewarm and the melted butter came on the side in a small plastic cup. (I was expecting for the butter to be more incorporated.) The lobster sat on a small bed of cut lettuce. The lettuce wasn't of the freshest quality as some pieces tasted strangely bitter. The lobster was a tad rubbery, and everything was overall bland to me. I found myself reaching for the salt shaker more than would have wanted to. SERVICE: I believe a new hire was getting trained during my visit, so it was a bit clumsy. However, I found it rather charming. They are all very warm people, and you can tell that this is a family owned establishment, which is why I really wanted to like this place. TLDR// Unfortunately, did not have the greatest first lobster roll experience here. Hopefully, I went on an off day or I was better off ordering something else.

It looks like over-the-counter ordering, but they wait on you. Only one server for the whole hoppin' place, which can cause waits. It can get noisy too. -- Fiery Honey Jerk: Nondescript sauce with mostly sweetness but little hints of jerk rub. Very small wings, and not crispy, but decent tenderness and moisture. -- Smokin' Chipotle Buffalo: I wasn't sure if these would taste more like chipotle or Buffalo. Fortunately, it was the latter. Less fortunately, a very light application of sauce, and similarly not crispy, but noticeably larger, especially the drums. Inner texture slightly moist. There's plenty to return for, and I've had some good experiences at their Millbury location in the past, so I'll be back. But for now, can't go higher than a 3.
