My wife and I had dinner at the Waypoint last Thursday night. Besides being a perfect night for eating outdoors, the location of Waypoint is serene. Just by the shore with boat slips for their customers and a small canal running from east to west with a sandbar just beyond the canal invited you to just sit on the sofas and sip a cocktail. So, what about the food. Fabulous!!! We started with a dozen little neck clams, that were as fresh and chilled as could be, and the charred octopus was perfect, just the right tenderness.( good sized portion ). Next we shared the Sapori di Tartufi (black truffle, fresh prawns, porcini mushrooms, Parmigiano Reggiano cream sauce over pappardelle pasta). It was just right (loosen your belt). We also shared the Chilean Seabass pan-seared, with little neck clams, mussels, trumpet mushrooms, fresh ginger, sherry wine sauce. Cooked exactly the way I like it. Dessert...cannoli's , a sponge cake with a pistachio nut crunch bottom and ricotta filling( was light and rich with flavor). Since it was our anniversary they brought out a slice of super rich chocolate cake on a dish with "Happy Anniversary" in chocolate syrup. John, our waiter, was great, not over bearing but keeping and eye on us. The owners..Yvonne and Andre were very accommodating. 7:15 reservation, we sat promptly and our first indication that this was not going to be good was the 20 minutes to get drinks and another 20 minutes for bread. Bread was frozen. Oysters were tiny and cocktail sauce was frozen. 45 minutes later, the water cleared the table but proceeded to spill the ice water all over the table. We lost our silverware and napkins and one of our companions was covered with water. We had to ask for silverware The sardine tomato dish was flavorless - the linguine and little necks were overwhelmed with red pepper. The mussels with cold chorizo was very bland. I am visiting from Florida and it was such a wonderful experience dining at this restaurant... First off the server Gianna was just a delight ... she recommended a beautiful cocktail El Rey ... Chard Octopus appetizer was just delicious then followed by Cioppino . The manager Ann was visiting tables making sure everyone was happy ...What a diner and let's not forget the view !!! I've been to Waypoint several times this past summer. Great views and great food! The food is consistently excellent. I've had the lobster roll, salmon with bok choy, shrimp with pasta, spicy shrimp, lobster bisque and fish + chips. It's all great!! read more

Love this restaurant. Even if the was mediocre, the location/ view is fantastic. Food is wonderful, (try the buratta with grilled peaches), and for fun try the steak on the hot brick thingy. Wait staff is great, but Mel (not sure of her while name) is the best.... I'll start off by saying that the lady I assume to be an owner was very pleasant, as was the bartender. The waitress my family and I had was a nice girl but was not good at her job I am sorry to say. It took too long to get our drinks and we observed it was not due to a busy bar. I ordered the halibut off the menu unaware there was a halibut special that evening. The waitress didn't inform us there were any specials at all which is disappointing. I wound up receiving the halibut special instead of the halibut I had ordered. I didn't want to send it back so I just ate it. It was alright. My family ordered lobster ravioli & salmon and were also unimpressed with their meals. Nothing was wrong with any of the food, but nothing was special about it either. Also, no dessert menus although they offer dessert. Eh. The place has great potential because the view is awesome & the decor is cute as well. Hopefully they can step it up a notch or two and I'd be happy to give it another try. read more

I've been there 4 times. The first time, it was right after they opened so I didn't expect the restaurant to run smoothly. The second time was fine - food was good and I enjoyed it (although, in hindsight, it was probably because the restaurant was fairly empty). The last two times were terrible. The third time was 3+ hours given the ridiculously slow service out of the kitchen. Tonight (the last time I will ever go), I asked for the check after it took an hour and 25 minutes for the appetizers to arrive. The waitstaff is great and really nice. They owners need to learn how to manage a restaurant, unless they think that most people enjoy eating their main courses 3 hours after they arrive. Given what they charge, I expect a lot better. read more

Went here with a large group last night. The ambience was really nice and our server was sweet. The cons: food was extremely average. It certainly wasn't bad but it wasn't amazing either (especially for the price). The owner came around to introduce himself to us which was a nice touch, however, he only introduced himself to the males at the table, came across as extremely cocky and not at all humble, and made many at the table feel uncomfortable. All in all this place is nothing better than average, I'm only giving it 4 stars because it's a new business and I think it deserves a chance. read more

We called at the last minute tonight and we were able to get a reservation for dinner. Judy, the very friendly host, welcomed us and we were able to sit immediately. We cannot even begin to tell you what a wonderful restaurant this was. We had been there last summer and loved it also. The food was fresh and excellent and the staff first rate. The camaraderie amongst the staff is what every restaurant owner hopes for. Everyone helps the next and the wonderful teamwork is apparent. Our waitress was Gianna and she ran around doing everything, yet made sure our table was perfect. Handsome John sat us and also made sure he helped every employee when his hands were available. We've been here many times before but not when it was Waypoint, this was our first time. My husband and I sat outside which was beautiful! The water is literally right there. Our waitress was lovely. We each had lobster bisque, a lobster roll and a beer and martini. The gentlemen who brought out our food was so sweet and very genuine! The food was delicious! When we asked for dessert the waitress read off the choices. We each got a dessert but when the bill came each slice (small slice!) was $14 each!!!!!! It was crazy! Pepsi's was one of our favorites . We tried Waypoint last Saturday night along with 3 other couples and we all were very disappointed. I was embarrassed after recommending it to them. we stopped in to have a nice lunch on 8/28 Tues afternoon around 2:00. There was no one there to greet us at the hostess station. Finally someone came and seated us. The decor is lovely, and the outside area with the couches and fire pit looks very inviting. The lunch menu was fairly limited. I ordered the grilled chicken and berry salad and my friend ordered the fish and chips. My salad arrived but was missing the grilled chicken! The waitress apologized and went in the back to retrieve the chicken. My friend then bit into her what she hoped was a fresh piece of fish.. and was surprised to find it FROZEN STILL inside! That was sent back with an apology, but they left the fries there.. They brought back the fish some 15 minutes later ( while my meal was just about finished) no new fries. The waitress said she was taking "this" off the bill.. What she meant by "this" was the the seltzer water she ordered.. Not the lousy fish, that my friend didn't even eat.. not my salad.. just the item that actually costs NOTHING to serve. ( Ive worked in restaurants my whole life, seltzer is extremely low food cost) The owner even breezed by our table and asked "how are things" which we informed him of what was going on.. he said "I'll tell my wife".. who did nothing or said anything. Its a shame because we are having friends out this weekend and was hoping to bring our large party there, but after this experience we won't be back. WAYPOINT.. you are in SOUTHOLD, with fish markets everywhere.. Serve FRESH FISH not restaurant depot frozen crap. You have a goldmine location.. please do it justice with your customer service and food choices. On a positive note my salad, once actually completed with the chicken, was very tasty.
