Wayside Garage is an absolute scam. We took our older Prius here 4/7 for a diagnosis of the multiple dash lights that were on in our car. Later in the day they called back with a complete inspection of our vehicle complete with recommendations of all the repairs and maintenance that could be done on our car. Their diagnosis of our dash lights was that our car needed a new hybrid battery, which is very common for a Prius its age. They quoted us with an estimate of 8000$. This seemed extremely high and it is more than we paid for the car. They explained that the estimate included 1500$ for a tune up that car needed as well. The cost of replacing the hybrid battery and labor would 6000$. As a kind gesture, they even offered to reduce the price from 8000 to 7500$ if we got the battery and the tuneup they recommended. We told them to hold the car for the weekend so we could talk it over and look over our options, because 6000$ is a lot of money to put into a 2007 Prius. We researched through the weekend and found that the average price to change a hybrid battery is 2000-3300$! The Toyota dealership in Salinas quoted us 3000$ for the same new battery with labor, 3000$ less than Wayside. I know this garage is not cheap but paying double what you pay at the dealership is a slap in the face. They are either just banking on making a quick buck on the diagnosis (300$), or hoping that their customers will simply pay their insane prices without researching whether or not the quotes are reasonable. We returned on Monday to pick up our car. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. However when I asked for an explanation of why their estimate was so much higher than the dealer, Regina explained that it could be due to the warranty they offer. The kicker is they offer the same warranty that you get when you buy the new battery from the dealer. The difference is that instead of paying 1000$ for installation labor, Wayside charges 4000$. I don't know how much I got ripped off for the diagnosis but I'm guessing I probably could have found it a lot cheaper if I shopped around. I guess I'm just lucky we only got taken for 300$ and not the 8000$ we were originally quoted. Shame on you, Wayside. read more

We paid $180 and went without a car for 4 hours for them to guess what was wrong with my car. They didn't fix anything and recommended instead that I get an oil change. Even though I just got an oil change 2k miles ago. Waste of time, waste of money. We will be looking for a different mechanic to actually FIX the problem. Edit to add: We went to the Sasaki Brothers and they diagnosed my car and fixed it in less then 3 hours. It was some sensors that needed to be replaced and they were astounded that a garage had the gall to tell us an oil change would fix the problem. read more

I haven't been this impressed with an auto shop EVER. I had error codes and a laundry list of repairs and maintenance to get done. Sabrina walked me through the entire process. I can't say enough about the customer service at Wayside. This was a pleasant experience! I never thought I'd say that about a visit to the mechanic. The shop arranged for me to have a ride home after dropping off my car. They ran a series of special tests to diagnose my car. The shop is so tech-savvy that they can text you digital reports. I really appreciated this as I could decide what needed to be done -- the report even included images as supporting documentation. The repairs and maintenance were completed quickly and the Sabrina even arranged for my car to be delivered back to my apartment! They have a secure link on their website to pay your bill remotely and can even email your invoice. Wow! I finally found a shop I can trust and who understands integrity and the importance of great customer service. I'm so glad I found Wayside on Yelp. A COLOSSAL waste of time. I'll go out on the record here and say I understand this place is pricey. However, when I called I expressed I was on a budget after explaining the repairs I might need and was assured that the price would be cheaper than the dealership which I had already gone to. I brought my vehicle to the Garage, and everything seemed great at first. The service was good, and I was informed the inspection and recommendation for repairs would take about a half-day (which was fine as I had brought it in for a 10:30 am appointment). Everything past this point deteriorated fairly quickly. First, I had gone pretty much the entire day without any updates on my car. It took all the way until 4:00 pm (30 minutes before they closed) when I decided to call myself, and they told me they hadn't even inspected yet. Yeah okay, that's definitely not a half-day. I would have been totally okay with this if I had been informed it was taking longer than expected, but they were on the verge of closing for the day and no one had contacted me. Second, the next day when I finally did receive my report and recommendations, it was almost 2x more than the amount the dealership had quoted me for parts and labor. Like I said, if I hadn't been told on the initial call that they'd likely be cheaper, I would have never gone here in the first place. It's basically a free $200 for them. I expressed my issues when I picked up the car the next day (finally) and was met with a fairly condensing response about being a premium garage and that no one would have told me that their prices would be cheaper than the dealership (which is explicitly NOT what I was told on the phone). Fairly abysmal experience, and it's unfortunate because I felt very good about the choice I made initially. They seem like good people and provide good service, but at the end of the day I don't appreciate being told information that wasn't even close to accurate. They can deny that anyone said that, but I wouldn't have set foot in this shop if they didn't stress a cheaper than dealership rate when I set up my appointment. read more

I went there a few days ago to have them check the tire pressure light that came on. They checked the tire pressure and corrected the pressure, They also reset the light and light has not come back on. They fixed the problem at no cost to me. My heart goes out to their kindness. I will be going back there to have them do oil changes and maintenance work. The office manager is so very kind and the stuff is very nice, too. Came up from Carlsbad, CA to set up for the Monterey Highland Games and one of the tires blew out on our trailer. While changing the tire I noticed one of the couplers on the suspension had rusted off. Not good since we are headed to Washington after this games. Saw Wayside Garage across the street and went in to ask if it was possible to get repaired sometime before Monday and worse case Monday morning. Sam the owner took a look and promised for sure Monday as long as they could get the parts. Well he did better than that! He got the parts and had them installed in less than 2 hours!!! All I can say is this man is the epitome of customer service! I have nothing but praise for him and his staff! I took in my 2015 Lexus RX 450h AWD for a 90,000 mile service, minus the tire rotation which Costco takes care of for me. When I arrived, a gentleman proceeded to "go over" what services they were going to perform on an ipad. There were many pages, and a lot of information which I just assumed were part of the 90,000 mile service. I was never given a printed out copy. They quoted me $760.00, stating that they would call me with any other services they may find needed, in addition to the 90,000 mile service. Six hours later, they called and said they had several recommendations which needed to be performed. They said that all the fluids needed changing, and the two filters were dirty and needed changing. This would add an additional $400.00 they said. But wait a minute...what is included in a 90,000 mile service?? This is the list straight from the Lexus Service Manual for a 90,000 mile service: -Replace engine oil with OW-20 oil; replace filter -Replace cabin air fiter -Replace brake fluid -Replace engine air filter -Replace smart key battery -Reset maintenance reminder light -Inspect the following: Axle shaft boots, ball joints and dust covers, body, brake lines and hoses, brake rotor thickness and runout, drive belt, engine/inverter coolant, exhaust pipes and mountings, fuel lines and connections, fuel tank band and fuel tank vapor vent system hoses, fuel tank cap gasket, rack-and-pinion assembly, rear differential oil, steering linkage and boots, transmission for signs of leakage, wiper blades -Rotate tires -Tighten axle shaft bolts -Visually inspect brake pads, calipers and rotors -Check installation of driver's floor mat -Road test vehicle This is what was performed for my 90,000 mile service: -Oil and filter change -Added BG EPR to the crankcase -Added JB Professional Fuel Injection Cleaner into the equipment, pressurize the equipment to run cleaner through throttle body with the engine running. I called a Lexus dealership to find out what their cost for a 90,000 mile service on my vehicle would cost, and was quoted $987.02. Wayside claims there was a breakdown in communication on the part of their gentleman who initially greeted me at drop-off. I see it a different way. I believe they saw a woman coming through the door and quickly set up their bait and hook scam, which unfortunately I fell for. I even have in writing from the email I had initially sent stating that I needed a 90,000 mile service. There it is in writing, and yet, I paid $727.26 for an oil and filter change, some added fuel system cleaner additive to clean my fuel system, and some (most likely) pretty shoddy inspections, which I might add, did NOT include all of the inspections listed in the manual. Now I have to take the car to a reputable mechanic to finish my 90,000 mile service. What a joke. You be the judge. read more

I drive a truck with a diesel engine and needed an oil change. They quoted me at $200 to $300 dollars. I thought the dealership was bad! I know that a normal oil change for my vehicle is between $80 to $100. I asked why there such a huge price difference and the person on the other line couldn't give any sort of answer other than, "additives." Save your money, and go somewhere else. read more

I received a flyer in the mail advertising a synthetic oil change for $49.95. When I called to schedule the appointment, I asked if the offer was still good. The woman who answered said yes. When I went to my appointment, I happened to ask how much my total would be before they did the oil change. Thank God I did! The advertised price is a scam: I was told that my total would not be $49.95 but $80.00 because the $49.95 did not include the disposal fee. If I had know the real price of the oil change, I never would have made an appointment, especially as they require that you leave your car with them for the entire day. There is also a small sign in the office that states that all advertised prices are for cash payments only, which was not disclosed on the flyer nor was I informed of this when I called to ask about the offer. So the real price would be $80.00 plus a 4% fee unless I paid in cash or used Venmo. I was also repeatedly asked for my email (which presumably they would use to send me advertisements or sell). When I asked why it was necessary the morning of my appointment, I was told they needed it to send me the inspection report. Past experience has taught me that "inspection reports" are generally alarmist in nature; they report a large number of mechanical problems that the garage then suggests you have repaired with them. All in all, a business that engages in deceptive advertising on multiple levels. I can only imagine what their repairs are like, especially for a woman consumer. NB: When I got home I looked at the ad more closely and in tiny print under the advertised price it says "job supplies, tax and inspection control fees are not included," however it does not mention a disposal fee. read more

Having just moved to the area I need a mechanic I can trust. Being a single woman on my own, I need a mechanic I can trust I realize I said I need someone I can trust twice, but it is a crucial part of the equation for me as I am on my own. I found this location from my boss, and I drove by it, and have been impressed enough to schedule more work for my beloved 2009 Honda civic. I need my vehicle to be in tip top condition. The initial reason I brought my car in was to have it checked out for excessive steering wheel shaking. Turns out one of my tires was in such bad condition it had tread showing. So I got one tire replaced. My next scheduled work is three more tires, an oil change, and four wheel alignment. Sure I could have shopped around, but I trust them, and my car is my livielhood. And trust is huge being on my own in a new city and having work done on my car. I've taken my car to non trustworthy places and gotten ripped off and paid a lot! It sucks! Stacey was so kind and understanding and I really feel like they will treat my older Honda like a brand new fancier car. She arranged a good price for a rental for me while the one tire was being replaced. I didn't have to do anything but show up. They respond quickly to questions and are up front with all estimates. I purchased an Exhaust for my Honda civic hatchback, I knew I couldn't do it myself so I called "Wayside Garage" for some assistance. I got a callback as soon as the call ended and one one the mechanics named Myles picked up right away. He gave me a date and time of when to show up. As soon as I showed up, he was really nice and got right to the point of why I was there, he asked many helpful questions that actually helped me understand what I was getting into when installing an exhaust. I would say it took about an hour or two for him to finish and it looked great! I was really happy with the exhaust and how it turned out, he also even charged me a very fair price which made it even better, I am very happy with my new exhaust and I will definitely be coming back! read more

STAY AWAY! I got a flat tire yesterday and USAA gave me a list of garages I could go to and Wayside Garage was the closest so I picked it. The tow truck took my car there and I followed to find out they were going to charge me $340 for one tire! My brother tried to help me and they gave him the runaround! (See Matt P's review on here) Turns out my tires were still under warranty so I arranged to have my car towed again! USAA roadside assistance is amazing- did not think they would tow it twice but they did. I informed USAA that they should remove Wayside Garage from their list of available garages and explained everything. I hope they remove them because charging me $340 for one tire is absurd! Newton Bros is the company my tires were originally purchased from- they are going to charge me $38 to replace my tire versus $150 at Wayside. Beware of false advertising in their ad brochure and hidden costs. Their ad brochure says an oil change includes a brake check. If you have disk brakes, they will measure the rotors and pad thickness. All good so far. But if you have drum brakes, they will not take similar measurements and will ask you $90 to do it (which they will call a brake inspection). So, a very misleading ad. Then, they will charge you $9.95 to disinfect your car before they start working on it. Well, I had to ask them to do the same before I pick up the car. So, someone came with a battery-powered sprayer to spray the steering wheel and driver seat. It took less than 1 minute. That's what they do for $9.95. They mày do good work, but I prefer someone with more transparency in their service. read more

I generally don't write yelp reviews but feel the need to pass on my experience with this business. I will say that they are great in some ways- the service techs are friendly and personable, they do a great job utilizing technology to keep the customer informed, they got my car in quickly, and they might well do fine work. However, the charges are absolutely obscene. For example, I was charged 50 dollars in labor to replace my air filter, which, in my car, is literally a 30 second process that a child could do. Honestly- I have done it myself in about 20 seconds. I take responsibility for not scrutinizing my itemized bill in time to advocate for myself, but I didn't realize I needed to be on guard. Most places don't charge additional labor time for this if you're already paying for another service such as an oil change. This place will also overcharge for replacing lightbulbs - I was charge 100 dollars in labor for 2 light bulb replacements. They charge in half hour increments, even if the task takes minutes (or in my case, seconds!), which adds up unfairly if you have multiple small jobs that amount to minutes of actual labor but end up being hundreds in labor costs. Up to you if you agree that's fair or not, but there are other car shops on the peninsula that will complete the same job for a fraction of the price. Wayside bought a second building across the street, and it feels like they care more about how much money they can extract from you at each visit vs offering fair prices that would create customer loyalty and trust. I would suggest offering your business to someone who offers a fair and reasonable price. Talk about highway robbery! Went in for an alignment and was very specific in my request and needs. Got a call later that in order to set the alignment I would need to pay an additional charge to complete the service. Upon expressing that I was not happy about the additional charge and that I didn't think it was fair I was then ridiculed and insulted by what I would think is a manager or person in charge of the business. I paid my ridiculously overcharged "alignment" which I still have to go somewhere else to do since it was never completed as an actual alignment. From text and email updates to photos showing what needed to be repaired and what was, there was little question as to why they recommended what they did. I used Wayside Garage over several years and had absolutely excellent service. The last time I had the brake light switch replaced. A couple days later, I had my Check Engine Light come on. My gas cap was loose and I have no idea why a mechanic would touch it for my repair. I turned off the light by disconnecting the battery. Later that week, the Check Engine Light came on again. I went to a different repair place and had them trouble shoot the Check Engine Lights, they found two separate trouble codes. A vacuum hose had been removed and not put back after the repair. I have not been back to Wayside Garage. These are the only two check engine lights I have ever had in 45 years of driving. read more

I chose to get a second opinion and I was able to get the problem fixed for 1/5 the cost in less than a day. I've never paid over $100 for an oil change before. Also, an engine air filter and cabin filter replacement was over $200. Save your money and try another place. They even charged me an extra $70 for road side assistance on brand new tires. I'd shop around other places to find better pricing. Lastly, they took an entire day to put on new tires. I'll start by saying, the Wayside staff is a really nice group of people as far as conversations go. Not good to take your car to though... unless you have lots of money to throw away. In about 2012 I took my 92 GMC Jimmy to them because it was randomly dying in the middle of driving. They diagnosed the problem and replaced a hose attachment with another used part, charged me $300 and I was on my way. Till it died on my way home and I had to get towed. Turns out the problem was an electronic fuel regulator that I fixed with my grandpa. Then a few years later I took my Camaro in to have my exhaust welded back to the mount (which it had broken off of). I was charged the hourly rate of I think $75 which is typical for a shop to do, except I watched the work be done and it was a 5 minute job. Don't worry they will take all the money they can no matter the time it takes. Then before taking my car they told me that I should spend an extra few thousand to get the car properly serviced. Now fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me... So I took my Honda Civic to them for one more try, because they are nice people. I had a problem with my window regulator and couldn't figure it out myself but I took the car to them with the door completely taken apart so all they needed to do was make it work. I bought a brand new regulator and installed it before bringing it to them. I was quoted $75. After a few hours they called and told me about 20+ maintenance suggestions and advised that I spend a lot more money, for a 97 Honda Civic that doesn't even cost $1000. I said no and went to get my car. Problem was, the window was not fixed and I didn't ask for anything but the window to be fixed. I was still charged $75 and NOTHING was done. Stupid of me to try the third time, but I will never take a car there again and I do and will strongly advise that NO ONE EVER takes their car there. Don't be fooled by the nice people, they just want your money... all of it. read more

DO NOT TRUST !!! Wayside Garage absolutely not competent in your Vehicles needs. They only competent in very HIGH charges. We brought our car for simple alignment needs at 9am. Supposed $80 and 2 hours OK, good deal, right ?? No ! Wait.. Waiting result all day I finally call them close to closing time to find out they alignment machine broke, well it's ok, staff happens. Next day after noon I call again and guess what, they start to telling me my car in such a terrible condition !!!! I need my sub fraim to be adjusted for start it's will be close to $500.00 !!!!! And after that they will try alignment ( additional $... ) well I set: "no, thanks " They still charge me $78.50 for they "opinion/inspection" which one I never ask to do ! Good I'm not born yesterday so next day I take my car to other people for second opinion Guess what... $110.00 and 2 hours later we got our car with no "sub fraim " problem AT ALL ! The check systems light and tire light came on today. In my Lexus 400H hybrid. I was on my way to an appointment, which made me a bit stressed for time. The team at Wayside welcomed me with smiles and courtesy. They checked and filled my tires. This included lowering the spare. The owner was thoughtful and helpful. What I call "old school" service. They got me back on the road. They didn't charge me. I would definitely bring my vehicles to them. read more

The quality of work is excellent. The folks at Wayside Garage are extremely detailed oriented, and thorough. Where I feel Wayside Garage separates itself from other repair shops is in their customer service. They are extremely engaging with their clients from the office staff to the service technicians. I've never work with a more polite, and engaging service organization in the auto repair field. Stacey, and her staff have set a standard that is unmatched by any other repair shop on the peninsula. They thoroughly went over my car from bumper to bumper, and did a comprehensive evaluation of my vehicle. Once the initial valuation of my car was completed they then went in, and diagnosed the issue that I brought the car in for. Once that investigation was completed by the technical staff I received a call from Stacey explaining the details of the investigation, and the needed repairs. It's never easy dealing with time consuming, and costly auto repairs. I'm glad the folks at Wayside Garage was able to make the necessary repairs needed for my vehicle. I came into wayside in November 2020 due to the fact that my service engine light had come on with a running too lean code. At the time I was tight on money so I couldn't afford the many repairs they recommended. I had them do a brake fluid flush which was done fine I thought. I came back in this year in March after saving some money to do the recommended intake manifold gasket replacement. I was under the impression that this would fix my issue. This was listed in the most important repairs section that they made for me. After inspecting my car they let me know I needed a brake fluid flush again, which I thought was impossible. It had been done only 3 months prior. They told me I haven't been driving it enough and that's what caused it which after speaking to other mechanics just doesn't add up. They tried to convince me to wait a few months to do it despite it being in the highly recommended section. I asked the lady Stacy I think if she could tell me the procedure followed for a brake fluid flush. She simply said "They use equipment and they know what they are doing." They did do the brake fluid flush again free of charge and then replaced the intake manifold gasket. The intake manifold gasket replacement was an expensive repair about $1300. After driving to and from San Jose a couple times the light turned back on again. I went back and after the inspection they determined that my brake fluid had moisture again!! This would be impossible after only a couple days!! They later made the excuse that their equipment was not calibrated correctly? They also replaced a hose that was leaking I guess. After picking it up got one mile down the street and the light turns back on again! What I have an issue with is making it seem like this expensive job will fix my issue when they could have tried many other less expensive options first. Also if you ever question anything they are doing they are quick to turn from sweet to sour. For instance when my fiancé and his dad came to pick up the car, my fiancé's dad mentioned he is a mechanic and it seems like they weren't following how a good mechanic would proceed with test driving and what not. The lady at the front said "Well if your a mechanic maybe YOU should fix it." This seems quite insulting. I don't think it's so much to ask at the very least test drive the car to see if the light turns back on and let the customer know! read more

The car is under warranty so I called the local dealer - they couldn't look at it for 5 days, but recommended I not drive the car without a safety inspection.
