The Wayside Inn is a new hotel in the area with a stunning garden outside. Some pros of this hotel is, the bathrooms are quite large and the breakfast is delivered right to your door at any time you want. There's also an outdoor mall right next store. Some cons of the hotel is, the small amount of breakfast choices to choose from, the rooms are very hot (open a window), there is also not many places to park. The front office staff are extremely nice people.It's a 10 minute walk to the beach Also most of the time the registration office have homemade chocolate chip cookies, cucumber water and coffee. We stayed in room 21. Big room with a nice tub. Jessica at the front desk was super friendly and helpful. Our only complaints were the WiFi was terrible, we found a red stain on one wall and one of the doors out to the patio was missing a lock. Other than this the stay was amazing and the location of the inn is perfect and within walking distance of so many shops, and restaurants. We would definitely stay again! We wanted to give 4.5 stars. read more

Charming inn close to shops, restaurants, and of course the beach. The staff (especially Roxanna- what a sweetheart) was so friendly and helpful. As mentioned previously there was no breakfast which was a bummer, but the stay was very cozy. I will say the walls are a little thin (but I've found this to be true at most places I've stayed in Carmel). The room was otherwise very quiet and very comfortable. Loved the fireplace and the bed was nice. Everything you need is in walking distance. Added recommendation for a restaurant nearby: Dametra. Delicious. Definitely will book here again. Have stayed here before, enjoyed it, and when we returned, it was even better. I can't get over the breakfast. We were expecting Costco repackaged stuff....a proud chef brought carefully made items right to our door. Exceptional service. This is a good place to stay if you like cookies or if you like to eat. We must remember to stay here with our kids, because there is a door between the rooms, so we can have our own bedroom. We have stayed at several places in Carmel, and this is the best place to stay with or without kids, its so nice and romantic, yet it has that nice door for privacy. No dogs. Great location. Great closet space. Modernized...flat screen, nice bathtub, yet still very cute. Parking. I love this place. Nice little coffee set up. If you want a bathtub - call and make sure the room has a bathtub. Some of the rooms have a funky layout where you have to walk through the bathroom in order to get to the bedroom. I didn't care, but my husband didn't like it. We didn't stay in that room this time, we stayed in it a long time ago. I'm just so happy there is more than one room! read more

I almost don't want to tell people how amazing this place is, because then they'll be booked up. But, nicest hotel I've ever been to. Friendly staff! Beautiful rooms! Can walk downtown and do some wine tasting. Parking is a bit of a challenge, if you have the option to take the small car - do it! The nice part is that we parked it and left it, everything you need is within walking distance. Complimentary breakfast is delivered to your room, which put this place over the top! This is a very cute spot with charming decor. The staff are wonderful and everything was clean. It is also close to shops and restaurants which was convenient. However our king suite was under the stairs which was rather loud and the room was hot even with the windows open. They also do not have enough parking for all of the guests so one night we had to park on the street. read more

The place is fairly nice, but I expected better for the amount of money I dropped on one night here. This was the one "fancy" place I booked for the whole trip. I wanted a fireplace and a big, comfy tub before collapsing for the night, and this place seemed to fit the bill. It was also a somewhat last-minute booking (a week in advance), and I think my desperation clouded my judgment. I guess if you think nothing of dropping $350+ a night on a hotel, it's not a big deal, but for me, having a less-than-great experience was irritating. I've been to inns that cost less than that with better amenities. I think when you go here, you're paying for the "charm" of the overhyped town it is in. Honestly, I could have skipped Carmel-by-the-Sea altogether, except for the drive there and the sunset on the beach. I would have been better off setting up something less expensive closer to Monterrey. Pros: 1) Front desk staff is friendly and helpful. 2) Convenient location if you want to spend time in Carmel-by-the-Sea. 3) Decent toiletries and linens. 4) The grounds are pretty. 5) The bed is large and comfortable. Cons: 1) The fireplace did not work, and by the time we got to the room after dinner, it was too late to catch anyone at the front desk. It didn't warrant a call to the emergency number. 2) The tub is not that big, and it took my boyfriend about 15 minutes of fiddling with the stopper to get the water to stay in. 3) It is definitely dated, and I think the maintenance is a bit lacking. 4) Since we had to leave at 8 AM the next day, they basically couldn't do anything for us for breakfast, other than leave us some cereal and milk. We passed on that. I would expect that kind of property to be able to make a better arrangement, honestly. 5) Parking is not guaranteed, and our Jeep Renegade barely made it into the spot that was left. read more

My s/o had planned us a nice weekend in Carmel and he chose this cozy hotel. From the outside it kind of makes you think twice and you're not sure what to expect from it (since it was a surprise I had no time to do research lol) but we went inside and we're greeted by Monica. She was really nice and helpful and let us know we had complimentary breakfast, numbers to reach Incase of emergency etc. We then went into the room and it was huge! Nice and clean, there were 2 bathrooms, a pull out bed, couch, fireplace, not even including the bathtub or the comfortable king bed. The room had a coffee maker, 3 sinks and a fridge but no microwave :( luckily we called the front desk and had a chance to speak to monica and she said she would see what she could do. Next thing you know she showed up at the door with a microwave! This definitely came in handy for dinners leftovers and she really went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of. Would most definitely come back here and stay for more than just one night. Recommending this place to everyone read more

I'm in love. The Wayside Inn is the perfect place to stay in Carmel. The rooms are AMAZING, full kitchen, jacuzzi bath... the attention to detail is great... complimentary wine, water and breakfast (which is delivered to your doorstep with the morning paper), chocolates, fresh cookies, coffee and fruit in the lobby. I like this inn, because it basic, but it's all the extra little amenities that they throw in that are nice. There is a wine and cheese hour, popcorn and movies to borrow, a waffle maker at breakfast, etc. My room was humongous, I was actually surprised by how big it was. There was a vanity area, a kitchen with a dish washer, fridge, oven and all of the cooking utensils I could possibly need if I decided to dine in, a fireplace and seating area by the window. I really liked the outdoor patio area where we enjoyed our wine. My only complaint was that the weekend staff was not very friendly, you could tell they were just doing a job. Plus some of the light fixtures in our room we're rather old so the light by the vanity mirror crackled like it was going to burn out and the light over the bed went out a few times. read more

We really enjoyed our 2 nights stay here. It is a cozy place with clean linen. I see some reviews saying it's noisy, but that was not the case at all. Our room was very quiet and peaceful. It's so close to the shopping area and many good restaurants. A bit of a walk to the ocean, but not far at all. The breakfast was brought to our room, which was nice. Stayed at Wayside Inn last month. This boutique hotel is cozy, charming, and has the sweetest people on staff. Dee was so welcoming at check in and the cookies in the lobby are amazing! We also enjoyed having the breakfast brought to our room by the friendly gentleman named Richard. Our double queen room was spacious and so clean! The hotel is very close to many shops and restaurants. Parking is a little tight - there are two small lots that each fit around 5-6 cars. Will definitely be back! read more

Stayed at this very nice small B&B (March 2010). Had a chance to stay in a newly remodeled room. Comfortable bed with upscale linens and comforter. Continental breakfast outside your door with paper early am. Only negative...I'm a light sleeper and we were on a corner and I heard every car, truck, bus and garbage pickup early on a Sat. morning. But that's my problem. Would stay again but would ask for a room tucked in the back. I know better. Had a great stay in Carmel. read more

My wife and I come here each year to celebrate our anniversary and we always have a great experience. The rooms are clean, the staff is courteous and the grounds and location are great. This past weekend my wife and I made our annual trip but this time we brought our 9 month old with us. This was the first time traveling with our baby so we weren't sure how it would go. The staff was extremely accommodating and went above and beyond to make our experience as enjoyable as possible. They provided a pack n play at no extra charge and anything else they were able to. Unfortunately our baby didn't do so well in a new environment/different sleeping arrangement and we wound up cutting our trip short. We will try it again next year when our baby is a little older. Big thanks to the gentleman at the front desk (didn't catch his name but he had think sideburns), he really went out of his way to help us an really puts the customer first. read more

Good service and nice quaint hotel rooms. It's also in a good location, close to Ocean Ave., but not so close you get ALL the road noise, but we could hear our neighbors pretty well, so I'd recommend bringing some earplugs or white noise just in case. It's just the right size for your average family of four. Also there are free cookies in the lobby! What's better then that! Also there is (I believe) free wi-fi. read more

I have stand at this hotel every year for 14 years for my Anniversary. This year, my son had to be picked up unexpectedly from camp so I called and asked the hotel if we could cancel as it was under 48 hours. They said no but we could use it towards a reservation that needed to be used within 9 months. I agreed to that and when I called back a few hours later, the manager said she would not honor that agreement. Because they had earlier agreed to that and I excepted it, I left town to pick my son up and now I either have to drive 4 hours back or I forfeit $300.00. They need to honor the agreement. We loved this place! When I made the reservation, I asked for a free room upgrade if they could do it, as we were celebrating my fiancé's 60th birthday. I didn't have high hopes for that but they did it! They also left a bottle of wine, two glasses and a birthday greeting. Lovely clean spacious room. The bed was the best I can remember of any hotel stay. Richard delivered our free breakfasts and they were very good, better than expected. Richard was so accommodating with suggestions of things to do in the area, and very personable. At one point we couldn't get the fireplace started, they were so very prompt and offered another bottle of wine since they couldn't get it going. We didn't need that and the fireplace was no big deal, but awesome of them to offer! A little farther from the beach than I thought, but doable and close to all the shops and restaurants. Also, a decent value for the area. Really the best thing about this place is the fantastic service. I would go again! read more

Stayed with Wayside early November. Based choice on Yelp reviews and it paid off. Our night here was marvelous. The staff was welcoming and helpful,even recommending some great restaurant choices for dinner. The room was marvelously appointed and the bed was super, like sleeping on a cloud. In room fireplace just added to the comfortable ambiance of the room. Morning brought a very tasty, warm tray of food and coffee for a leisurely relaxed breakfast. This is an example of the worst customer service. I unintentionally left behind ten shirts in a cabinet by the bed as well as a book, that was intentionally left for their small library. When I arrived at my next hotel, I realized the shirts were missing. I called and spoke to the owner who said he would check. No call back. I called again and talked to his wife. No call back. The third time I called and a woman said "no shirts were left here". And no book. Rude, unapologetic, dishonest. Do not stay here. read more

Rooms were very nice with large double doors to the balcony, comfy beds an plenty of space. Would be 4 stars if the hotel made even the slightest attempt to provide decent amenities. For example, we paid for 4 people ($25 extra a person) to make it $350 a night, and there were only exactly 4 coffee pods and 2 were decaf. Small detail of course but its annoying they have to be cheap about a 50 cent coffee pod at a 350 a night room. Also they advertise free breakfast, which, again, was the absolute bare minimum. Essentially what you would expect to get if you went to Safeway on a $2.50 budget (or even less). read more
