I visited this store for the first time. It is in the OCMix at SOCO. I have been a WeOlive client for over a decade, however. I purchase online and in LaJolla. I have given this store a 3 star review because I HAVE been to another WeOlive and there is simply no comparison. The main focus at this store appears to be the wine bar. I wanted to buy product. Their product placement is small and incomplete. There is no tasting area for the oils and vinegars. There is a small island with some gift ideas. We bought a gift. The woman working was pleasant, not overly helpful. I did not see anywhere a complete display of the different oils and vinegars (which I know is vast). I will continue to buy online and in LaJolla. The WeOlive product is exceptional. I absolutely love the oils and vinegars. In the LaJolla store, they pair them for you for tasting. We've been here before and had a great time, so I'm bummed to write this review but was shocked at how disrespectful the guy behind the counter was. My husband rested his elbow on the counter and was immediately told "you can't stand here, this is where my walkway is. If you want to watch the tv go over there." My husband apologized and told him this was one of his favorite places to come, and his response was "what does that have to do with anything?" My gosh, I've never had anyone speak so rudely and for no reason. I'm not sure who he was, worker, owner, manager, but it was unacceptable and I can see why the entire place was empty. Contrary to the name, this place doesn't just have everything olive - they also have dips, vinaigrettes, and dipping bowls (among other things). But their specialty appears to be olives, and they do it very well. Tons of different olive oils (to sample as well as buy!), and a couple different olive tapenades that are very good. Out of the oils I sampled, I loved the smoked herb and basil the best - so I went ahead and bought a bottle. They have a program where if you buy a bottle of olive oil, you can bring the bottle back and they will refill it (with whatever oil you want) at a discount. I really really like the space and really really want this to be my go-to wine spot if I had someone to explore wine with me. Lol, #foreveralone. It's a pretty chill spot to go have a glass before dinner or just to hang around while traffic dies down on a weekday. I came through a few times after work with coworkers to get some wine or beers before dinner. The space is small and cozy, but there's an option for patio seating, which is great for the upcoming summer. The beer menu has a solid selection of bottled craft beers with the lightest listed at the top and moving to the darkest as you move down the list. I was indecisive between two selections, but our server helped narrow down the options by giving a full description of each flavor profile. It didn't hurt that he also was the one that curated the bottle list so he's tasted every one of them. I went with the Anderson Valley Blood Orange Gose and it's a great introduction to sours. Very fruity on the nose, a little bit of catbonation on the tongue and a lingering tartness at the end. It had a very nice punch that I debated on a second glass, but I opted for darkness with Mission's Victory at Sea. I do appreciate that they leave the bottle for pictures and also to read the labels. For my second visit, I had the Clown Shoes Chocolate Sombrero. The Mexican-Style Chocolate Stout with vanilla, ancho chili, cinnamon and chocolate malts was not spicy at all and the hint of chili is relatively mild. Our server said there was a noticeable chili spice, but I just tasted the flavor of say...a smoked chili? Mostly bittersweet with a dark chocolate profile. I dig it! The food menu is pretty limited, but you can have some small bites while you drink. I've had the olive oil gelato (which I think everyone should try at least once!) with a balsamic glaze, sea salt and Meyer lemon oil. Really nice dessert. For something savory, we tried the hummus with pita chips and your choice of olive oil (garlic, extra virgin, jalapeño, lemon or basil). We chose the jalapeño which is really yums! Located at The OC Mix, there's quick access to the 405 freeway for a speedy getaway, but please drink and eat responsibly haha. We Olive is a great place to meet up with friends, grab drinks and enjoy tapas. It is located at The Mix towards the back. The place is set up for small groups, except for the communal table in the middle that seats about 8, so coming in small groups would be a good idea. They also have outdoor seating and will turn on the heaters if you ask. They allow you to bring food in from other shops located at the Mix so that is another plus. I tried the white wine flight based on the suggestion of our server ($8 on Wednesdays) and really really enjoyed it. She made the suggestion based on the food we wanted to order and she was spot on. It tasted great with everything I had. The hummus with garlic olive oil is delicious. I LOVE hummus and the hummus served here is one of my favorites. The garlic olive oil drizzled on top made it taste extra good. The chips that are served with the hummus however is a little too hard for my taste, but still good. Next time I come, I will be trying the jalapeno olive oil with my hummus. The cheese platter here is also very good. The almonds covered in paprika and the goat cheese were my favorite items off the platter. It also came with a dirty martini cheese that tasted just like fancy nacho cheese. The server was nice enough to bring extra bread upon request. We order sausages and it went really well with the cheese platter. The last and everyone's favorite item that we ordered was the olive oil gelato. I LOVE deserts and this is by far one of my favorites. It is sweet, salty and light all at the same time. MUST order the Meyer lemon gelato drizzled with olive oil and balsamic vinagrette: It is the most amazing thing ever. The salty and the sweet compliment each other very well. It is also very light and doesn't make you feel nauseaus after finishing it. For $8, they give you 3 scoops. It is easily sharable but it's so good I could probably eat the entire thing myself. Sausage drizzled with jalepeno olive oil. It goes well with the cheese and bread if you order it. If you eat it by itself, it might be a little oily. Bruschetta: It looks great in the pictures but its just like any other bruschetta. Nothing special Hummus with garlic olive oil: You can choose any olive oil to go with it but I do recommend the garlic one. It's so aromatic and makes hummus so much better. It comes with chips to dip it in. Cheese & bread platter: comes with about 5 different types of cheeses. Don't remember all the names of the cheeses but I remember having gouda and goat cheese. I recommend ordering the sausages and eating it together with the cheese and bread. All the cheeses were delicious though. Wine Flights: Remember to come here on Wine Wednesdays! the red flight is $8 and the white flight is $10. I think its about a $4 discount from its original menu price. The white flight was great; very crisp and light. The red flight is supposed to be a little fruity. I preferred the white flight to the red flight. I've also recently been to Wine Lab at The Camp and I prefer the wine selection for the flights at We Olive. The cheese actually comes from the cheese shop right in front of We Olive and their gelato is also from a gelato store in the same building called N'ice Cream. Definitely would come back and take a look at some of these stores. These stores were already closed by the time we left We Olive. Everything in this building is very urban and hipsterish. Very relaxing and cute place to go to. The service was also great. The lady was extremely friendly. There are also heaters if you choose to sit outside. However, when it gets dark, the lighting might not be that great outside. It's a small place so it might get a little crowded on the weekends. I hear the acoustic nights here on Fridays are great! To put it briefly, the man behind the bar was rude and at any interaction seemed annoyed at our presence. We were served several glasses of wine (all with an ungodly amount of cork in it) and one of them had a large fly in it. I asked for a new glass and he simply said nothing to me and dumped it out and served me a new glass but said nothing. He had no problem talking to this one girl at the bar but everyone else he ignored and would take 10-12 min to pour a glass of wine in between his conversations. Came here for my friend's birthday & the service here is OUTSTANDING. I would come here JUST for the service! (Well, minus a small incident that happened at the end... but continuing). VERY cute indoor hipster mall area! I love the lighting in this place and the decor - seriously one of the cutest date places. (Portola Coffee is located in this plaza too!) They accommodated the group of 9 and even "reserved" a table for us even though they don't do reservations. Our server also let us try some of the wines before we committed to a glass! I especially liked the Moscato that my friend ordered. My friend and I each shared a red flight & a white flight (and since it was Flight Wednesdays it was $3 off of each! What a deal!). We drank it the way it was supposed to be drank - lightest of flavors to darkest and it was smart. Since I'm not a big wine person I was impressed and enjoyed the wines! We also ordered a cheese plate to share, mmm. Three kinds of cheese + pesto + artichoke + almonds + bread drizzled with olive oil. I love love loved the goat cheese. When getting the popcorn, all the seasoning is on the bottom of the plate, so make sure you get in there or it'll just be really plain. Also gave my friend a mini olive oil gelato scoop with a candle so we can sing happy birthday to her! The gelato was delicious and DIFFERENT with hints of lemon then vanilla then salt. Lots of layers to the palette. In the end though, when we were paying we all decided to pay with a few cards and with cash. We also decided to only included the original amount when we wrote on the receipt so we can tip accordingly after - but there was some confusion with that and some of the cash was probably put towards the tip and the last card had to take on the rest of the amount. (What we wrote down on the tab + cash was more than the total amount anyways, so we should have gotten some change back). This was confusing and we all still did tip, but the last card should not have taken on the "outstanding balance" without asking and we were confused on where some of the cash went or our change. Although we all were going to tip generously (YES, that GOOD of service) we might have only tipped the normal percentage (~15%) rather than what we were going to before... Especially since the change disappeared anyways. This review is not about the owner, Phil Brooks, who is great. The shorter, full-build, brunette guy who also works there is a total d***. He didn't greet us, he poured *barely* 6oz of wine for a 9oz price ($15), and brought us only a few pieces of bread for an olive oil flight. We never leave food behind, but we chose not to drink the leftover olive oil since no additional bread seemed to be available. On our way out, we mentioned to him that, while we frequent We Olive for both their olive oils and wine, our experience today was not good. Not surprisingly, he could have cared less--he didn't even ask why. (Probably because he already knew it was because he is a d***.) Cool Place - A little wine/beer bar across the way from Taco Maria. We stopped in to grab a little vino before dinner. The service was prompt. They have a great list of beers and a nice selection of wines. Apparently they sell a lot more than just beverages. My daughter recognized the place as they have a franchise in Reno. We had some sparkling rose, sparkling white and I had the sauvignon blanc. All of the wines were very nice. They have a nice assortment of wines by the bottle and glass. They also have beers on draught and bottle/can. They have a "Kill the Keg" special on Thursday nights. $5 a glass and if you kill the keg you win a prize. It's a nice place to go. But I live in Bellflower. To me this would not necessarily be a "Destination." It is a place that you would stop in, while you are in the SOCO in Costa Mesa. read more

I really love olive oil and balsamic vinegar. I especially love this specialty store because you can try it before buying and you can bring the bottle back and get a discount on refills. What a really relaxing space to enjoy the above with some of my favorite Yelpsters. Plus $1 street tacos out back on Thursdays? I'll be a returnee for sure. When I told the owner Phil how much I liked the Chard and that I never had heard of it: "ah that's our goal." He will constantly be searching out hard to find wines of various varietals. The only reason I came here: N'Ice Gelato with Meyer lemon olive oil + balsamic + sea salt sprinkles on top. Damn it if it wasn't the best darn icecream dessert I've had in awhile. If you've ever had the honor of smelling a meyer lemon, tasted it, or within vicinity of it, you will know and would love it as much as I do. It is unlike any other lemon, this lemon is very fragrant, citrus-y, light, and tart without being so overwhelming. The weird thing about this dish is that I'm not a fan of balsamic, esp the 'vinegar' part. However, amazingly and surprisingly it works. When you first put a spoonful in your mouth, you do get that bit of vinegar-y taste, but then it immediately gets shut down by the meyer lemon scent. One would think that eating ice cream with OIL is weird and oily, but it is not the case at all, Completely the opposite in fact. Everything worked well together and then that little bit of crunchy sea salt adds a nice texture. Gosh just writing this review makes me want another. The service? What a fun little gourmet Olive Oil stand / Wine bar!! I walked up to take a look at their vast selection of oils. A friendly young lady asked me to sample their daily highlighted selection of Ascolano Oil. It was delicious... fruity, peppery and very smooth. It was the PERFECT oil for dipping fresh sourdough into oil and balsamic vinegar. I was very tempted to get a bottle, but my frugal side was arguing with my happy taste buds as the bottles were $22.50 a pop for a 12oz bottle of the stuff. Very proud of myself, I walked away and told my guy how strong I was and how he should be proud of me. Then he kissed me and walked over to We Olive and bought it for me. Yeah, I'm keeping him. To my happy surprise, they had a Yelp check-in deal. Free pour spout with purchase! I'm making a point to stop by the bar on my next visit when I have more time. But at first, I couldn't really make sense of whether this was a shop or a restaurant or a wine bar. Finally, when we were heading out, I saw the little bowl of cut-up bits of bread and walked up to see if I could get a sample. Could I ever! The young lady working the counter totally hooked us up, pouring tiny little pools of oil and vinegar, all the while informing us about the product. Let me tell you--that stuff was decadent! In particular, the oil pressed from smoked olives and the orange aged vinegar took my breath away. You could dip an old leather sandal in those and still be a happy camper. In addition, nothing seemed out of reasonable price range. I think a bottle was like $15 or something and when you run out, they just charge you by weight when you bring a bottle back. Gosh, what an unexpected but phenomenal find. P.S. I was thinking, some bottles of oil or vinegar would be great for a hostess gift, too. Something different instead of wine or candy. read more

After a sales meeting, I suggested beers and wings at Wingnuts. My buddy suggested this place instead. I was intrigued by wine and olives and decent reviews. It was a real treat. Tucked deep inside the OC Mix, we were treated very well by the staff. Unfortunately, the 7 of us had to stretch out at the long counter. The drawback of this place is the lack of seating. It's the size of a snack bar and they do not allow you to drink in the open quad area in front of the place. That aside, we still had a good time. Several of us had the Wednesday Wine Flights, which were three big wine glasses with a small pour in each. We sampled three and a settled on a delicious Cabernet. We had a bunch of the small plates and I tasted the popcorn with garlic olive oil and a plate of fresh olives. A great spot that gets pretty crowded on a weekday happy hour. First time going to this place yesterday and the owner is extremely rude ! Accused me of stealing a plate I put the oil in so we can try it . Very very strong accusations and still kept on when I specifically told him I didn't steal it . Will never go back to this place or recommend it to any of my friends and Family .
