Once we found this place during the balloon fiesta we came back so many times they knew our faces. You know it's a good spot to eat when there are regulars that come in there that the staff knows and it is always packing no matter what day of the week it is. Even if you have to wait it never really seems that long until you get a table. The servings are reasonably priced and HUGE! Oh man that papas bowl? If you like your hash browns then this is the dish for you and the pancakes? Also huge. This is the place where we learned to love red and green chile although green is now our fave. Pour that on a Denver omelette and get ready to smile. Staff is always friendly and a manager circulates saying hello how were things to people at the tables. I came in one day with my voice gone and they were very nice about working with me pointing at the menu. When I came in the next day with voice still gone, the young lady at the front who takes your name remembered I couldn't talk and asked me how I was feeling. I recently moved back to Albuquerque after a six year hiatus. Before moving away, I had been to Weck's once or twice but never really formed a strong opinion about it. After moving to Dallas and being starved of the chile that makes New Mexican food so great I learned to really love this place. There is a Weck's in Lewisville (a suburb of Dallas) and it was the only place I found that had authentic NM style chile. In Lewisville, Casey, the GM, stopped by our table one morning and upon finding out we were from ABQ shared the story of how Weck's came to be in Lewsiville. He was a really nice guy and made a good impression. So, when I recently moved back I was pleasantly surprised to find a Weck's had opened up close by on Paseo and Louisiana. The new location has a 50s diner décor that is reminiscent of Yesterdave's, but much brighter and cleaner. The staff is friendly and the food is awesome. WARNING: Come HUNGRY! The menu consists of breakfast and lunch, served all day until they close at 2pm. I'm sure the sandwiches are good, but if it's your first time the thing to try is one of the "papas" dishes or the huevos rancheros. The papas are a huge plate of hashbrowns, topped with cheese and red or green chile (YAY) and some eggs. You have your choice of some other toppings like carne adovada, pollo, sausage, or gravy. Usually I eat my eggs scrambled, but here I have to go over easy/over medium because something about that gooey egg mixing with the cheese and chile is just to die for. So, I was gonna write a little more but just thinking about that papas plate has got me salivating, so I'm going to have to finish up another time. Nothing special. Service was good, but not outstanding. I enjoyed the food, but my burrito was a little dry and each end of the burrito was an inch of pure tortilla. Asked for chorizo on my burrito and got sausage instead. Fortunately for them, the sausage was delicious and I was fine with it. Just had an amazing meal but honestly I can't expect anything less than amazing from Weck's. Wanted to give some much deserved kudos to Nancy who went above and beyond when she could have easily given me eye rolls and attitude. Being a post transplant patient for a blood cancer, I need a few extra things to eat my meal, some melted butter and a constant flow of milk for example. She was completely understanding and willing to offer suggestions. The management is interactive coming around to every table making sure your meal is up-to-snuff. This Weck's is a shining example of how to run a restaurant delivering not only quality grub but a quality dining experience. We will definitely be back, the new Stuffed Hashbrown had everything my fiance wanted, cheese, breakfast meats, and of course Hatch green chile. Found this on my visit to Albuquerque from Texas. Now I had some people tell how great there food was but I like to try things for myself. I decided to pop in a try what they were known which is great art in the walls and great sauces which are red or green or you're feeling cray you can get them both which we did. I had gotten the 3eggs omelette with Ham and hash browns with the red and green sauce which was beyond delicious. I highly recommend it was awesome. read more

We love Weck's! It is our go-to breakfast spot. Our family loves the huevos rancheros, pancake sandwich, the carne adovada burrito and the papas bowls...all delish! We always request Eva, she is the BEST!!! Food is awesome, green or red rule here, but green chili is what I prefer. The portions almost always are bigger than necessary, but we rarely take home anything...LOL. Hash browns come with most breakfast meals, pancakes are great, our daughter LOVES the chicken Caesar salad. The cinnamon roll is decadent. Each Weck's we have been to has been great, but Eva is a server at the Holly Ave location, so that is where we go! I usually get a veggie Papa's bowl and share an order of pancakes with my hubby but I have been known to skip around the menu trying other things. The other cool thing about Weck's is that each location is designed differently. It isn't your typical restaurant chain. The one on Holly has movie posters, there is one that has a country theme, there is one that is more like rooms in a house. OMG this place is one of the main reasons to get up in the morning. From start to finish they are great. Open for breakfast and lunch know you'll wait if you want to dine on the weekends.But they are efficient and turn tables quickly thanks to their star wait staff. Every time I've dined here the experience has been excellent. Wait staff is prompt and responsive, the kitchen turns out delicious meals and the place is comfortable, clean and inviting. Ambient noise is noticeable but not a problem unless someone brings a screaming child. My favorite menu item is the veggie papas bowl: a bowl of crisp hash browns with cheddar cheese, grilled veggies such as mushrooms and peppers (you can get them with bacon or sausage or ham too but I figure the veggies lower the calorie count), green chile sauce and a fried egg (or scrambled whatever style suits you) for about $8. Of course the last time I was there I had to go all out pig and ordered the plate of papas. It was giant and big enough to share. Even the guy at the table next to me smiled as I got my huge plate of food. And a side of green chile sauce. Their green chile sauce is not for the faint hearted and hubby prefers their red for this reason. My papas plate was fabulous, loaded with hash browns mixed with cheddar cheese and grilled veggies, topped with green chile sauce and two fried eggs, but I couldn't eat the entire thing. I took it home and someone else wolfed it down. Their coffee (and decaf) is very good - freshly brewed and I've seen their cinnamon rolls but not tried them. We usually have a great experience at this location, but the last two times we've been seated in Brads section, it's been less than a welcomed experience. This morning was the worst of it. We waited a while to have him take our drink and food order (we ordered both at the same time because we were ready and figured they were going to get busy). Our drinks took a while to come out, we get it, they're busy. Our food came out, Brad turned into a magician, and poof! He was gone. Well, not completely, he checked on his other tables, but our table must have turned an invisibility shield on and Brad pretended we didn't exist. We ate, and sat, and waited another 20 minutes without even a glance from Brad in our direction. Our drinks were empty, plates empty, just waiting. The manager finally came by and did his rounds of checking on the tables, and it was pointed out to him that we had been waiting for 20 minutes for just our check now. He sent Brad over to bring it to us, and brads excuse was, "I thought you were still eating". Can't eat anything else if the plates are empty there, bud. I must have had an irritated look on my face, which I can guarantee with complete certainty I did, because Brads next comment was "fine, be mad, you don't have to tip me". Wow, just, wow. At this point, I was angry and said "wasn't exactly up to you, but I sure as hell am not leaving you anything now". Brad walked off, manager comes back, and asks if we got our check. I filled him in on Brads little comments and said it was completely uncalled for, and if he had even bothered to check on us we wouldn't have had an issue. We know how busy it gets at 10am on a Sunday morning. But when he is seen laughing, joking, and taking his time with other tables, then cops an attitude with us for asking him to simply give us our bill, it's ridiculous. And like I said, not the first time we've been on the receiving end of Brads not so stellar service. So Brad, cut the attitude, and don't be a jerk to customers. It's simple. read more

My only gripe is breakfast food already has a unhealthy side to it, this place tops that all off with an extreme overuse of butter.
