Walking down the street one day, I overheard the following phone conversation: "Have you ever heard of Wegmans? (pause) Well, if Disneyland had a grocery store, it would be Wegmans." So true. The customer experience from the moment you step into this store until the second you leave is flawless. I hate grocery shopping with a passion, but a trip to Wegmans doesn't feel like a chore or an errand. Their prepared foods area (featuring a salad, bar, fresh sushi made in-house, a hot bar, sub shop, pizza shop, Asian foods area, and a little bit of everything in between) puts most buffets and similarly-styled restaurants to shame. Their prices are reasonable, the selection is stellar. What other grocery store allows me to consistently get fresh-made olive tapenade from a Mediterranean olive bar any day of the week? The produce section is large enough to be its own store. Wegmans even has its own organic foods line, making high-quality, locally-grown, ethically-created products available to customers at a fraction of the price of health stores. There's a bulk loose-leaf tea section, a great array of international foods, and low prices that lock in annually, meaning that the most commonly-bought products by families (like milk and bananas) will never fluctuate in price, regardless of demand or supply. Their employees are friendly and helpful and, from what I understand, are treated like gold by corporate. Does it sound like I'm raving? It's probably because I am. I dread the day I leave an area with Wegmans, because, as a hater of all things grocery shopping-related, I don't know how I'll manage to feed myself without it. read more

Ugh. I'm sorry Buffalo and Western, NY. It's not you, it's me. I just... I've tried. I've really, really tried to like Wegman's. I just can't. It's just... I dunno... Some people don't like strawberries! I choose this Wegman's because it's the one I've frequented the most. I hate going there. Parking is always a hassle. ALWAYS. It's like I'm living in the Truman show and everyone is just trying to get in my way. Packed parking, leads to a packed market. You fumble around the store constantly rubbing elbows with mom's in their workout outfits because they just left their zumba class and "needed to grab something" before heading home. Can too big of a selection be a bad thing? I don't know. I think it is. When I need something I want it to be plentiful and easy to find. No nonsense. I can't seem to be able to do that at Wegman's because in their need to offer something for everyone a bloke like me who was just looking for sushi ginger needs to walk back and forth through the store 2 or 3 times before finding where they were hidden in plain sight where there are now 5-6 different brands and makes and I have no idea which one to buy and no one can tell me. It's frustrating. Due to it's inherent popularity it's always packed and the lines are always long. The one thing I ask of a grocery store is to be convenient. I will pay higher prices and minimalist decor if it means my shopping experience can be over and done with in 15 minutes or less. I can see why people clamor about their Wegman's and how much they love it. I, personally, think it's entirely overrated and not worth the extra trouble you have to go through due to it's popularity. read more

I grew up in Syracuse and have lived in Buffalo for the last 6 years. My whole life, everything has revolved around Wegmans. I used to eat its free cookies on Sundays. I wander through the aisles (oh, so many aisles!) about four times a week and buy weird foods I'll never eat. I know some cashiers by name and have developed elaborate backstories about them. And I still assert that their bathrooms are the cleanest and most lovely in all the world. Wegmans is the brilliant guiding North Star in a sea of dim Topps, P&Cs, Price Choppers, Aldis and, yes, Whole Foods. It's a way of life, and I'd sell my family in a second for it. There are many things in Buffalo to love, and Wegmans is one of em. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE WEGMANS! Having lived in Florida, there's just no comparison when looking at grocery stores like Publix and Winn-Dixie. They are just plain awful in comparison! I went to the Wegmans on Amherst st in Buffalo, NY to find a florist for my wedding in October. Not only did they have super reasonable prices (because after all....they are just flowers that end up dying a week later. I don't need to spend a grand or more on something like that) but the florist treated me with such kindness and helped guide me through everything. I believe Eric was who helped me(he has a taco tattoo by his ear..love it!) and what a wonderful person. When I went in the day before my wedding to pick everything up, I was super nervous just in general about the whole weekend. I went in feeling anxious and overwhelmed, and left with a lot of relief feeling way better about the day after just chatting with him! Really helped keep my mind away from all the stress. And WOW what beautiful flowers and greenery. Cannot express how impressed I was with everything and Eric truly is a kind person just looking to help anyone in need. Wegmans - Grocery Near Me - Buffalo, New York

I know it is not a popular opinion around here to not really like Wegmans, but sometimes I feel like the people that grew up in WNY are a little brainwashed by the whole Wegmans thing. This store is nice and clean. The variety and quality of premade food choices is very good. The beer selection is also quite good for a grocery store. And the customer service from the employees is generally top notch. But if all of these things are true, why don't I shop there regularly? 1. The store is seemingly always packed. I mean really packed. Sure I could go at off times and avoid the crowds, but I want to shop when it is convenient for me. This is not a huge deal, but it is just a hassle I'd rather not have to deal with. 2. The prices at Wegmans, at least for what I generally buy, are higher than most other stores. 3. Limited brand variety. For many items they only stock the most popular brand and their own brand. For example, they may have Heinz Ketchup and the Wegmans brand. Have a coupon for Hunt's? Too bad. I hope you like the Wegmans brand croutons because that is your only option. I realize this is part of their business model, but for people who like to use coupons or who like a specific brand of something, this can get annoying. 4. Rarely are non-Wegmans brand items on sale. Again, for people who use coupons, this is also an annoyance. So at the end of the day, I do most of my shopping at Tops and buy my fresh produce at the Lexington Co-op. I feel this gets me the best balance of quality, price and selection. read more

Wegmans is wonderful! Everyone I have ever taken here from anywhere in the US is always jealous of our grocery store mecca we sometimes take for granted. You always think differently of your own grocery store after you have had your first Wegmans experience. Classy, clean and always a fun experience. Fresh produce, many times from local farms look wonderful. In addition to the bakery, coffee bar, meat and fish markets, and great private label brands (featured in The Office many times) - highlights you should not miss are the sub shop (get it with sub oil, cut in fourths, and enjoy), prepared foods (Indian, Chinese, salads, olive bar), gelato bar, cheese shop, premium beer selection and the employees. Ask any W employee a question or for a suggestion and you will usually get great and honest service. No wonder they have been a top 5 employer by Fortune magazine in the past 5 years. I suggest just moving to Buffalo (or Rochester - they even have a restaurant at one of their stores) and giving up on wishing your Price Chopper - Whole Foods - Publix - Stop and Shop was as great as W is. read more

Dear Wegmans, When you want to card both people at your register before ringing up alcohol among $170-something worth of non-alcoholic groceries (possibly not knowing that the male is a substance-free minor and the child of the paying customer), you might want to make sure they're not regulars who've been passing through your checkstands since early 2014 NEVER having to show more than the one ID of the paying customer on the occasions that alcohol has been an item on the receipt. It starts looking suspicious on more than one level. Just saying. p.s. And when I say "no more than five bags" but don't organize all of my items on the conveyor belt like I usually do - because I'm convinced that only a small percentage of you can bag like I used to bag back in the day, so I'm happy to help do your job for you without being b***h enough to ensure your spot in line at 158 Pearl Street - I don't mean seven or eight bags. You don't know what you have in Wegmans until it's gone! Moving to NYC from Buffalo, Wegmans is what I miss the most (yes even more than getting good chicken wings). No where else compares to Wegmans, it is a cultural icon for the WNY area. Huge clean stores carrying pretty much everything you need. An ample staff that are helpful and pretty knowledgeable when you need them to be. Despite what other reviewers have said I've always found the prices to be very fair, especially with staple items. Though this may also be hindsight talking now that I'm dealing with NYC prices. Let me put it this way, whenever I go back to Buffalo I have three permanent things on my to-do list: See family, See friends, Go to Wegmans, a trip isn't complete until all three are done. read more

WHOA, was pretty blown away by this particular Wegmans. The produce at this location seemed so much better than the location on Alberta and Niagara Falls Boulevard. Everything was so fresh and plentiful. The cafe area seemed much bigger than the other Wegmans I've been too and all of the dishes were fully stocked and looked awesome. The whole vibe of this location was really clean and organized. The mediterranean bar was sparkling clean. It was obvious that the workers here really keep an eye on what's happening. I've been coming to one Wegmans or another since I was small enough to ride in the cart. It's what I grew up on. They always impress me with the variety of produce they provide and the cool vibe of their stores. I've spoken to people who've had dates at Wegmans! I visit their pharmacy on a regular basis and find them incredibly professional. Once they saved me when the clerk said "I'm sure your doctor mentioned it, but if you take this medicine with XYZ you'll get really violently ill." The doctor hadn't mentioned it nor did two nurses! Thanks for the save Wegmans! Their bathrooms are clean and I'm always impressed that they stock some complimentary diapers in case you find yourself in a pinch. I'm not a parent, but I can imagine that being a huge lifesaver! There is one thing that bothers me about Wegmans and that's the layout. There seem to be these choke points where you find yourself fighting through an unnecessary crowd. It's bad on the weekends, but I've gone when the store is relatively empty and still had the problem. Overall I feel they are the best supermarket in Buffalo and this location is great, but it could be better. read more

Phenomenal place with a great selection of EVERYTHING! Those who visit Wegmans (visitors from out of town) wish they had one in their own area. It's a lifesaver. As well as having consistently great quality and great-priced produce, meat, flowers and lets face it everything. (Shout out to the cheese section and Mediterranean bar), Wegmans also offers a more than decent selection of beers and they make their own infused olive oils. There's not much more to say then Wegmans since its the best. But I will recommend some foods in particular. *Note* Best takeout foods there: 1. WEGMANS SUBS (check out the sub selection at the Sub shop. you won't regret it) 2. The pre made Wegmans soup section has the Morrocan Lentil soup. Grab a pita and enjoy this deliciousness 3. It's a beautiful, magical place where pre prepared foods are delicious and the bathrooms are clean and stocked. It can be a little overwhelming if you're in a hurry because there is so much great stuff to get distracted by. They offer a decent health food section of gluten free, vegan and vegetarian foods. I almost exclusively come here in the middle of the night, that's just when i do my grocery shopping, so it's really peaceful and calming. Never in a million years would I come here on a weekend afternoon or friday night, it's just too stressful. I miss out on all the the sample they offer during those peak traffic times but it's worth it to me and fits my schedule. read more

Did a shopping trip at Wegmans to get things for my son's birthday party last week. Walking through reminded me how awesome this place really is for food shopping. Having experienced Trader Joes on the west coast, I think Wegmans slightly edges them out just do to over all selection. Both are great because they source their own brand labels and they are always good. If a product has Wegmans name on it, the quality is there. While there I picked up all sorts of good stuff for the party, but two things I really got to give them credit on are 1) They have bulk loose leaf tea. And its good tea at good prices. Use a little bag to fill up as much as you want. I got an awesome Laspsang Souchong, Sencha, and Two Pu-erh, A ginger orange and sweet cake one. Then 2) they have a great beer selection. They have really expanded and focused on mircro-brews over the last few years. I was able to get a sample 12 pack of otter creek for $13.99, along with a Goose Island Nightstalker imperial stout. So truthfully I would come here for just the beer and tea. All they do on top of that is huge bonus. read more

One of the great places to shop, but it gets pretty hectic real fast. It's right in the neighbourhood, so it's easy to get to and they have a variety of things which I like when I go shopping there. It's cheap buying milk and fruits, since I've been going there for awhile I have the rewards card and every time I save when I buy. Some of the downfall about being here is sometimes finding parking space and also they are always changing things around inside the store so finding things can be a bit annoying. Also sometimes it's not enough counters open and the wait time can pretty long if you are in a rush. Also, have to look around for staff to help because not many of them are around when you need help finding something. read more

To any future college student; Wegman's is the grocery store to be at. As a native New York Asian from New York City, I had low expectations for grocery stores up in Buffalo. Or maybe I was a bit naiive and a tad arrogant about the supplies here in Buffalo. Anyways, Wegman's has nearly everything you could ask for at a reasonable prices. It's like the Trader Joe's of New York City. Best of all, they have an international section catering to both the locals and of course, the overseas students. I am especially pleased with the Asian aisle because it has pretty much all the main ingredients, candies and canned goods often found in any other Asian store. Besides the International section, you can also find a nice variety of fresh fruits, vegetables, and meats that a typical college wouldn't feed you. I have a few things to say about this particular Weggie's. A) The sub shop is the bomb, but I steer clear of the chicken finger subs because their fingers are soggy. Wegmans has always been one of my favorite grocery stores, since I first encountered them in Northern Virginia. I knew that Western NY was where they started, so I was very happy to be near one when I moved here. Their prices can be a little higher, but there are certain things they do so well, like prepared foods. Their loose tea selection has always been excellent. They're great for hard to find natural items. I'm less of a fan of how they integrated the natural beauty products into the rest of the store, but overall Wegmans is an excellent place to shop. read more

I've been a loyal Wegmans customer for 3 decades, first in Johnson City, NY & the last 20 years at the Dickson City, PA location. For nearly a year, the Dickson City, PA store was a total mess due to renovations that were promised to improve shoppers' experiences. I was one of the many people hunting for items that were scattered all over the store. I began to notice fewer options in many sections of the store, but assumed once the renovations were completed, they would return. WRONG. The long awaited "renovations" amounted to a HUGE wine & beer section, while the other GROCERY sections of the store are now lacking. Giant FAIL Wegmans! read more

This location is better than the one in Amherst I feel. It's super well organized and I find the staff here more "available" to answer questions/help find a location of a certain item. This is the location where I do my weekend grocery trips that tend to be a little longer than the quick trips to pick up particular things. I spend a good hour or so walking around every aisle and picking out things at my leisure. Plus the food bar has a LOT of variety. There is also a BIG pizza station, a mexican station, a coffee station and a pretty huge seating section. It also has a separate "theatre" section where they show games and such. There are two types of people in Buffalo: Wegmans people and Tops people. I'm 100% a Wegmans person. I used to go out of my way and shop at the Wegmans in the burbs, but no longer. Sure, I'll stop by and pick up stuff if I'm around the Alberta one, but nowadays I'm a regular at the Blackrock Wegmans on Amherst. The selection is great, the employees are wonderful, and the parking is excellent! This city Wegmans has it's own great charm that it's now my prime shopping spot. read more

Seriously this place is the shitzzzznit@@@@@ in college this was where my friends and I would end up after a 14hr study-a-thon...this biggest , cleanest, most stocked supermarket in all of western NY!!!! The even had a gelato bar...what supermarket u know has a gelato bar!!!!! its pricier than the cheapo vesion TOPS in W. NY but so much cleaner.... Tons and tons of aisles filled with anything and everything u could eveer want in a supermarket...fresh bread....the soughdough with onions and chive was amazing!!!! Wegmans is the best supermarket I have been been to in any part of the country. The food selection and variety is 2nd to none. The beer selection is very good as well. The environment at Wegmans is enjoyable to shop in. They have an amazing Market Cafe where you can grab a bite to eat while there - or just to take something home to quickly heat up for dinner. The Amherst Street Wegmans, is currently undergoing some renovations and items have been being moved around a bit. But it is still easy to find what you are looking for. My only complaint is the reorganized beer section is not as good as it use to be. Hopefully it is only a temporary thing, while they are remodeling, and they will go back to the previous layout. read more

I was raised a Tops girl and I'm definitely a Wegman's girl now. I'm so happy that we have such a great grocery store in this city. It's always clean, the staff is helpful and friendly and they have an extensive takeout area. The Nature's Marketplace area is constantly changing and adding new products. Anytime the shelves are out of a produce item the staff will always look in the back for me. It's easy to get someone's attention at any counter. Definitely another thing that I miss since I moved to Boston. People really don't understand how great Wegman's is until they experience it. Low, low prices but all the brands you would be looking for, great produce, clean stores and actual helpful workers.
