Like many others, I have also bought Wei Chuan frozen products (noodle bowls, rice bowls, potsticker dumplings and buns) from asian markets (May Wah supermarket, Pacific Supermarket, etc.) for many, many years. Making food from scratch is always better/ healthier, but sometimes you don't have time (no, I don't eat pre-packaged frozen food often). This is a quick and convenient substitute to cooking or going out to eat. And it's a bargain at under $4 for a package, how can you beat that. As some people would say "the proof is in the pudding". Just take a look at my photos, the food tastes and looks good. This Company overall makes delicious Asian food, but I recently boiled a package of their pork, napa, and black fungus frozen dumplings only to find that every dumplings was spoiled with a sour taste. I called the manufacturer for a refund, and they placed me on hold for so long that I had to hang up and redial. I kept calling back and they kept placing me on long holds, which lead me to believe they had no intention of providing me assistance. Then, they hung up on me while i was on hold. I'm sorry, but if your dumplings are going to taste rancid and rotten, please have the decency to at least say sorry and refund my $3.99. Don't get me wrong - I think Wei chuan still makes good food, but my experience with their customer service and rotten dumplings was disrespectful to the customer. Wei-Chuan is probably the greatest brand from China since Bruce Lee. Their frozen foods are AMAZING and if you suck at cooking Chinese, you can get their food at Asian Markets to pass off as your own. Since my Chinese cooking DOES NOT suck, I am exempt from such desperate measures. HA HA. I can tell you that getting their cookbooks from Amazon is a really, really good idea if you have a calling to battle with a carbon-steel or cast iron wok. Hands down, the best Chinese cookboos I've bought. Printed in Chinese & English, I've taken them to my local Chinese take-out pals at Golden Wok and they write down the recipes from the book. I seriously suggest you try them out and get the cookbooks (they haven't published a new one since 2006) but they're still available and really easy to use. read more

The company offers a variety of frozen dumplings, such as Chinese spinach/ pork, celery/shrimp, leek/shrimp, Lotus root chicken, green onion/ beef, leaf mustard, pork, seafood, cilantro.... They are all pre-cooked. You just need to boil them til the dumplings float on the water-meaning ready to eat. Out of the frozen dumplings sold in the Chinese supermarkets, I think Wei Chuan is the best. The only complaint I have is that once you buy them at a market, you need to go home and refrigerate them fairly quickly. If you leave them outside for awhile (i.e. have a lunch or dinner) before you refrigerate them, the dumpling skin tend to melt, becomes sticky and cluster with each other. The dumplings price is fairly cheap. You get something like 30 pieces in a bag that costs between $3 and $5. I also like the TV dinners they offer, particularly the Beef Soup Noodle, so yummy that you do not want to eat at a restaurant. The Shaolung Bao is also very good. The bao is very juicy. If you hate to wait in line for Din Tai Fung Restaurant's Shalung Bao, I recommend Wei Chuan's frozen Shaolung Bao (it is not comparable to DTF, but decent enough that you want to eat them again). They also make a variety of condiments, canned goods and drinks. You might want to get their dumpling sauce. Wei Chuan is also famous for its canned pickles and soy sauce, which is less salty than most Chinese brands. BTW, try their frozen wonton as well. It is very good. These products help me save a lot of time in a busy season. My mom, though a good cook, eats Wei Chuan dumplings as well. For the non-Chinese yelpers who want to taste authentic Chinese food and do not want to go to a Chinese deli without a Chinese friend to help, just go to the market and grab Wei Chuan's frozen food products. review of dumplings and siu mai only recently came across weichuan's dumplings on sale at ranch 99. 3 bags for 9.99. with 3, they give you a small packet of siu mai dim sum. they were giving out minisamples. it tasted decent. bought a few bags. big mistake. the dumplings are loaded with msg and not very lean meat. the siu mai tasted mushy, not firm, indicating filler was used in lieu of meat or fatty meat was used. shortly after i ingested a dozen of these dumplings, i felt light headed (no, i wasn't high. i know that felling) and i felt an urge to take a cramp. after intaking some liquids and cramping, i felt better. i noticed msg is the 4th ingredient in listing of prominence in the manufacturing of this product. warning. eating this product continuously can be hazardous to your long term health. read more

I have been eating their dumplings for a really long time. They have been consistently excellent, (when my mom prepares them, my dad always overcooks them to the point where they start to fall apart, lol) and I really enjoy a meal of Wei Chuan's steaming dumplings. My favorite is the pork and qi cai (not sure what it is in english, and I'm too lazy to get out of my seat to check). Great for convenience, and these dumplings pack a mouthful of flavor! I always mix a bit of soy sauce with a bit of other condiments to go with the dumplings, but they taste great on their own as well. read more

Bones in Wei-Chuan Dumplings. Recently I bought 6 bags of their dumplings with mix of contents but all have pork in them. I found bones in every bags and the latest is so big as the camera hole on the front of iphone 4S. The basic quality of not including bones in your product is not there, that is the reason for low rating. read more

I purchased the pork Chinese celery and shrimp dumplings at Ranch 99. The taste samples at the store tasted fine since there was a dipping sauce. I've eaten and cooked a lot of pot stickers and dumplings over the years. This was the worse, I almost gagged.It was way too salty, tasted weird (can't describe it - just uneatable) I had to read the ingredients from the packaging to see what that awful taste was. There was nothing out of the ordinary other than MSG which I usually would avoid. The filling was hard and the shrimp was the dried shrimp. I threw out the entire pot - it just tasted unhealthy. Don't buy this product - Trader Joe's is way superior! read more

there appeared to be the wing of an insect in my frozen wei chuan vegetable dumplings. the insect part was released into the pot of boiling water when the dumplings broke apart. i called the company. they were super pro-active and sent an employee here to pick up the package for futher investigation. read more

I have been a customer for many years as I've found the noodle and rice boxes a very convenient quick lunch at work. In the last few months, the company has been reducing the ingredients in their products and this is a downward spiral that they will never recover from. Raise the price if you must but never reduce the ingredients. Customers are not stupid and they notice these things. read more
