I was pretty sick so I decided to order here. This is mostly to go since this place here is closed off for dine-in. I'd say this place is authentic as the owner was born and raised in Hong Kong. I enjoyed eating the congee dipped with fried bread sticks. I also had some siu mai as well. I felt like the food might be a bit too expensive, but that's the US for you. There werent much bakery to begin with, especially in the late afternoon so I think it's best to come in the mornings if I wasn't working. I wanted to have some pineapple bun, but it isn't available. I feel like the place would've been much better if there was dine-in, but I guess it hasn't been by the looks of it + reviews mentioning it. Overall, I do recommend eating here if you want some authentic Cantonese food.

Delicious, authentic Chinese food. As a vegetarian, I highly recommend the salt and pepper egg tofu, garlic string beans, and the mapo tofu. Ordered online for takeout and it took almost an hour for it to be ready but pricing is extremely reasonable and the food was delicious, worth the wait!

Egg tofu & mushroom, orange chicken, crab Rangoon

This is my friend's favorite Chinese spot and she recommends this to everyone. I took her out for her birthday and then went to Tower Grove to eat. She LOVES their orange chicken and always asks for extra sauce. This time they misunderstood and only put the sauce on the side, which is why the chicken looks like that. She asked for no spiciness, but it was still hot for her when she tried it. I didn't think it was spicy at all (but I'm less sensitive to heat). I wanted to try something new and got the egg tofu and mushroom. It comes with other veggies as well in a very neutral flavorless brown sauce. I had never had egg tofu before it is a Very soft tofu that almost dissolves in your mouth. I don't think anything was wrong with the dish, but as someone who likes really strong flavors, it was not for me. I ended up using some of my friend's orange sauce, which I loved! We ended up going back and ordering even more sauce by itself. The crab Rangoon was great. It seemed to maybe have a little more crab than you usually see at other restaurants. It was a little browner than I was used to, but it didn't taste burnt. We had a lovely time eating it in the park, but we brought all of our own plates, napkins, and silverware. If you're not bringing your own, make sure to ask for napkins and silverware.

Ham and onion bun, coconut buns, egg tarts, fried taro puffs

This family owned bakery has been here for years and is a staple for Cantonese/Hong Kong style baked goods! Highly recommend coming by for affordable and delicious buns and dim sum dishes (packaged to go). My favorite savory items are the ham and onion bun, the bbq pork bun, and the fried taro puffs. My favorite sweet items are the egg tart, pineapple bun, and coconut roll. Their sweet items are pretty light, so you won't have a sugar crash after enjoying them. There's no tables in the bakery area, but it's definitely worth stopping by! The family who works here is very sweet and kind and boxes everything nicely for you. There's a big lot behind the restaurant to park.

We were in the area so we decided to come here to pick up some food to go after our morning coffee and dessert at another place nearby. It has been over a year since we stop by Wei hong. The bakery has several premade options, so we brought them. We did not order from the menu due to being in a bit of a time crunch in this particular day. The food tastes decent. We would definitely order from the menu next time and probably would call in to order. I wish this place would be a dine in place like before COVID, Unfortunately it is only to go.

Service was quick although they don't have any inside seating. We got a take out order then ate on their patio. The cashew chicken was light but lacked a lot of flavor. While we didn't order any, they had some good looking pastries inside.

Carry out only, but they have seating available in front of the restaurant. Dropped in to check out their bakery and tried one of their $1.50 BBQ Pork Buns. It was pretty good. They also have pack of 3 steamed BBQ Pork or regular pork buns for $6. On the sweet side, they had coconut custard bun, red bean sesame balls and green bean sesame balls. .|\---/| | o_o | .\_^_/..2022

    Molly D.

Stopping by on a quick visit to St Louis and it's honestly some of the best Chinese food I've had. The Hunan chicken was so flavorful, and the perfect level of heat. The Rangoon had more filling than so many other places. The hot and sour soup wasn't my favorite, but I was full anyway. 11/10, would come back here again!

We ordered delivery from this place, pretty solid Chinese food. Great vegetable fried rice and sesame tofu. The serving sizes are enormous, definitely shareable. We ordered multiple different things for a group of four people. Didn't get to see inside of the restaurant, but overall solid Chinese food. We will definitely try it again.

Ask the Community - Wei Hong Bakery & Restaurant

Do they have pineapple buns in the bakery?

Hi--does anyone know if the bakery/takeout counter is open for the duration of the restaurant operating hours? Are bbq pork buns and pork Suomi usually available at this counter? Any info would be greatly appreciated. 😁

Yes, to the first question. On the second, I know that the bbq pork buns are always available at the takeout counter. I'm not sure what pork suomi is, so don't know the answer to that part.

Weekday visits are pretty chill but weekend dinner time gets busy, just something to plan around. Also a heads up on parking, the lot isn't very big so when it's packed it can be tough to find a spot. Would recommend carpooling if you can. I have a pretty low spice tolerance but there are still so many delicious dishes to choose from if you look around the menu. The soups are so hearty and comforting. Insider tip: the tofu egg dish is not on the menu but ask for it anyway. It is so worth it and the best way I can describe it is like eating a savory cloud puff. So unique and so good. The service is always super efficient, food comes out fast, and the staff will get you in and out. Every single dish I've had has been full of flavor and nothing has missed yet. It was excellent and had just the right amount of heat. I also enjoyed the smoky ham fried rice, although it lacked the distinct smoky aroma I was expecting. Some of the other dishes didn't quite land for me. The fish soup wasn't my favorite, and the beef noodle soup wasn't especially memorable. The cumin lamb, however, was better than expected and ended up being one of the stronger dishes we ordered. That said, the service was friendly, the portions were generous, and there are plenty of interesting options on the menu. I'd definitely come back to try some different dishes next time.

The expectation was high, and the restaurant delivered outstanding marks. The menu was huge (over 300 items) and we had no idea what to eat. No worries, the daughter of the proprietor, Sarah, was our server and without rushing, she thoughtfully asked questions to narrow down our options to the items she believed we would really like. She was very friendly and her recommendations hit the spot. I ordered a Banh Me Thit (56) and a Com Tom Thit Trung (74). The Banh Me had very fresh bread and I enjoyed every bite. The Com Tom Thit Trung was very good, just what I expected. Throughout our meal, Sarah would stop by to check on us and we also chatted about the restaurant and its' history (since I saw an article in St. Louis Magazine framed to the wall). One of my rules-of-thumb of good hospitality at a restaurant is if leftovers are boxed up for you. At the end of the meal, Sarah's brother cleared the table and boxed up the food. I flinch whenever I hear the "movoc" and I get so excited I want to throw up whenever someone suggests going to movoc for a hangout. There are lots of toppings to choose from, and I think that the concept of hot pot price by weight just like FroYo is fun and unique. Service is fast, and clean. The hot pot was delicious and not too spicy and the sauces they had to offer were very delicious as well. Not too salty. It's a wonderful place, whether you go alone or with friends.

This was my first experience at a hot pot by the pound restaurant. I've only been to all you can…read moreeat hot pot restaurants, so I was excited to try this place out. Apparently, I wasn't the only one because this place got packed by 6p on a weekday! The line was out the door. It can be a little confusing for a first time goer as you enter the place and grab a bowl to select the ingredients you want to eat. The minimum weight that you have to buy is 0.9 lbs, but you really won't know how much your bowl weighs until you get up to the cashier and put it on the scale. My bowl was underweight my first time through, so I went back to grab more ingredients. If I had to guess the minimum cost for a 0.9 lb bowl, it's probably about $16, which is a pretty good price for a hot pot. My bowl weighed about 0.97 and it was way more than I could comfortably eat. The next decision you have to make after you have selected your ingredients is the base and spicy level. I went with #1 Oil splash spicy soup at medium spice level. Now, I enjoy spicy foods, but this was at the upper limit of enjoyability. Although tasty, I think the oil in the broth got to be too much and I will want to try a different base next time. After you pay for your food, you get a number which you take to a table of your choosing and wait for your bowl to come out (they cook it for you). There is a drinking water station next to the free rice station, which was around the corner from the complimentary pickled vegetable station. Overall, positive experience and I would return for more. .|\---/| | @_@ | ..\_^_/..2026
