Welch's Riverside Restaurant was a fantastic little joint we found during our recent foray to Carrollton Ky. They had all sorts of burgers, breakfast options, and lots of other dishes. The restaurant was absolutely picturesque both the restaurant itself and the views of the river that were available. I tried a pretty basic Grilled Ham And Cheese sandwich and onion rings. It was really delicious with both the sandwich and the rings being super delicious. This place is amazing. We travel a lot and every time we are in the area; we eat here. Best place in town for breakfast, lunch or dinner. The food, service and atmosphere leaves you with a home feeling. They offer good service and don't try to rush you out, once you have finished eating. Set by the window so you can enjoy the river. Just had the best dinning experience here at Welch's Riverside Restaurant! The waitress was very friendly and very good at her job! The food service was quick and the food was delicious!! I remember being here a few years ago. Gr8 little unpretentious family run restaurant on the Ohio River. Lots of windows looking out over the river. Very peaceful setting. The food was less than spectacular. The home fries were nasty and very disappointing, tiny cubes from frozen and I spent half my time chasing them around my plate! The goetta was dry and underwhelming. The eggs were cooked perfectly and the waitress was super friendly and efficient. Terribly overpriced for the quality and quantity. Worst service ever. We were told to seat ourselves. We waited 15 minutes, with not one waitress even taking a drink order or making eye contact. The table next to us sat down was helped within 5 minutes, with menus, drinks, and food orders. When we were finally were offered menus, ordered drinks and food, we then waited 55 minutes with no food, no apologies for the delay, no offering of refills on drinks. This is just horrible service. The service was so poor other customers went and poured their own refills. How they are in business is mind-boggling. We then left and were asked sarcastically by another patron, "You're not leaving a tip?", my opinon is tips are for service, we get better service at McDonalds without leaving a tip. Needless to say we paid for our drinks and left. We went to Mi Viejo where we were seated, served, and ATE a delicious meal within in 30 minutes. FIVE STARS IF YOUR PIES WERE ONLY HOMEMADE!!!!! If you're driving back to Louisville from Belterra or Cincy, consider routing down Hwy 42 to downtown Carrollton. There.....sitting on Main Street and the bank of the Ohio River, is a spectacular view and a quaintness only a small town city possesses. The Welch's must do very well in this town. Notice many businesses with their name. And I was surprised how much steel industry this town has....u will see that on ur 11 mile stretch down 42. Let's get to the menu choices. Well, what about a ribeye steak sandwich for $6.99. The rest of the menu is proportionate to the steak, in price. Ask about ur choices. Some are homemade...some not. There is always a daily homemade special. We had breakfast, served all day, and a bbq plate. The bbq was not homemade but very, simplistically, good, like Mom used to make. All the sides were great and big portions. But.......I was counting on their large selection of pies to be homemade. They weren't. Darn, I was def taking a whole one home. Let's not forget that view!!!!! What a view, on their enclosed porch!!! Tables for 6-10, about 6 of them. Free ambiance....that's a rarity. The staff was friendly and the views of the Ohio were beautiful, but the food was terrible. They didn't give us the sides that were supposed to come with the dinners, and what they did give us was embarrassing. Spent $14 on 2 and a half chicken tenders (was supposed to get 3 but one was split in 2 and just the edges for some reason, the waiter didn't seem to notice) and a couple soggy fries. When we travel we always try these mom and pop local places and when we arrived there were only a few people seated so we assumed (incorrectly) the service would be pretty quick. Our server brought us coffee and gave us a few minutes to decide what we wanted before taking our order. After 40 minutes with NO further contact from our server, and noticing several people who entered after we did, being brought their food, we decided to give up and leave. As we were leaving, our server was standing near the kitchen where we actually saw our plates sitting (who know how long) and she actually said "thanks for coming" but didn't even look up from her phone. We were on our way home from Louisville and wanted something to eat so we gave this a try. Very cute place! I got the bologna, egg and cheese biscuit (2 as recommended by the waitress) and they were delicious. My wife got the western omelette with home fries. We ate here twice, a supper and a breakfast. The breakfast was very good and the supper was pretty good. It's nice sitting by the river and watching it Go by. In the morning there was a little fog over the Ohio which made for a nice atmosphere. The atmosphere is typical casual for a Riverside type of restaurant. The wait staff was very nice and efficient. For supper most of us had the fish special which was either catfish or whitefish. The catfish was very good but the white fish was a little undercooked and somewhat mushy. The Johnny cakes cornbread were cold and not great flavor. So the supper was good but not great. For breakfast most of us had eggs bacon toast pancakes and coffee. The eggs were cooked as ordered, the bacon was crispy, and the pancakes were superb. I eat mine without any butter or syrup and they had an excellent flavor despite the lack of those extras. We tried an order of goetta as most in our group had never tasted it before. I don't really like it but I liked their version. For those who don't know goetta is a combination of beef pork spices and oatmeal that is cooked like a flat sausage patty and is very popular in the Cincinnati area. We were two full to try the desserts but they look pretty good. The price for what you get was very good as well. We would definitely go here again if we are back in the area. read more

Well I've been told the food here was bland but it was close by so we checked it out. The 1st issue we had was there was no gyro or Greek burger like it has on the menu. My wife got a good burger which I thought was a very funny name becuse of the tv show and had to say it. Turns out they have a hamburger and it's frozen or a good burger that's fresh meat which I find crazy. She liked her good burger. A little over cooked and a lot of onions. She also got onion rings that she said where decent. I got a hen house burger that was a fried egg bacon cheese and a good bigger patty. Well I've had a lot of these burgers at other places but this was one of the best I had. Needed a touch more seasoning but the egg was actually cooked perfect, the burger was also over cooked stilly but the big was great. . The fries where frozen trash and the cheese sticks where also frozen but I did like them. All and all it was a good burger and we will be back. read more

I'll give it one star becaus I can't give it zero. The chili cheeseburger has canned chili dog cheese, the tenderloin platter consisted of inedible Cole slaw with few over cooked fries. The sodas where completely flat. This is the first time I can remember just getting up, paying and walking out after two bites. Utterly awful. read more

This is our second visit to this location. Great view of the Ohio River. The building could be updated, but everything else was awesome!

Wanted to support a local Mom and Pop restaurant and didn't think breakfast was too Hard to mess up, but I would not consider this true mom and pop. I wouldn't expect anything fancy in a small town but I think of a mom and pop restaurant having home cooking. most even have homemade bread. They were out of home fries and served us a frozen hash brown patty. Omelet seemed to have deli ham. Waitress was flat and staff was not wearing masks during Covid time. Wonderful everything! Food, view, service and surroundings. Waitstaff is like family. Located on the Ohio river, the fog had just lifted hence the view is stunning. The geotta is delicious. Must come and eat everything from bologna sandwiches to pimento sandwich. Wow read more

This was a burst decision cause to come here, just because I wanted to have breakfast with a great view in the morning. And truly wasn't dissappointed we never had experience visiting a small town, since we move from Puerto Rico to Louisville mostly been staying in the city this the second time we go out of the city and we love it. Was in town for the weekend, staying at the state park. Wandered in to town for a bite to eat. It was mid-day and there were a few lunch regulars still hanging out just chatting. This place had great views of the river. And we were able to sit anywhere (since it was like 230p). The burgers and pie were outstanding! Nothing beats a homemade burger! This review is based on only one lunch meal here. Also, I give stars to restaurants etc based on their comparative level among others of their type and class. I'll ding health issues hard but things like service, food value, menu options and the like are relative to the expectations for similar establishments. So an Economy Inn isn't held to the standard of the Fairmount Hotel nor is a homestyle diner held to the standard of the English Grill. I visited here for a weekday lunch with several coworkers. Location: GREAT view. Riverfront and lots of windows. Right downtown and easy enough to access from interstate or Highway 42. Service: Friendly but slow. It was only moderately busy that day but it still took a noticeable amount of time between each step of the dining process. Food: Most of us had the plate lunch special. Meat and 2 plus a bread. Good but not top of its game for diner food. It also took a surprisingly long time to get a plate of the food considering most of it was waiting on steam tables. Coworker said the fries were ho-hum, like frozen crinkle style, but that his burger was tasty. Green beans and mashed potatoes were quite good, meatloaf was okay. Breakfast served all day. Cleanliness: Generally good. Bathroom was clean but old. Plastic cups had lots of chips out of the rim which isn't great for cleaning them well and it really weird to feel unless you drink from a straw. I think the main reason for 3 vs 4 stars (for diner/country cooking remember...) is service. Friendly is great but on a weekday lunch, it shouldn't take 25 minutes to get a plate lunch. I think the majority of the diners were families or retired people but we did have a set time to be back at work so I may be judging it on a different basis than a more relaxed tourist or local might. Overall, I'd happily return if I was in the area but I wouldn't do it in a time crunch and I'd probably try a few other places first just to get a better idea of options for the area. read more

We stopped in here on a Saturday. It was somewhat busy, there were plenty of empty tables though. We were told to seat ourselves, most of the empty tables hadn't been bussed yet. We waited awhile after we found a (dirty.) booth our drink order taken. We both got cheeseburgers and shared an order of brew fries. It took over an hour for us to get our order, and our drinks sat empty. We had to ask for refills. The woman grabbed my cup from the top and my straw touched the palm of her hand. Gross. When our food finally came out it wasn't cold, but it wasn't hot either. The place seemed dirty, the staff seemed flustered and the food was cheap but blah. We were there for almost two hours. It was just bad overall and I hope I don't get sick from eating there. I'm giving it 2 stars instead of 1 because from reading the other reviews I'm guessing that our experience what somewhat out of the ordinary. I hope they were just having a bad day. read more

We waited about 50 minutes for breakfast to come out and not everybody's eggs were the way they ordered them but we didn't have time to wait around for them to get redone. Got a burger and fries, hubby got onion rings. They have dinners and such too. What we loved, it was like going to your Mamaw and Papaw's place for lunch. Just seat yourself and they will come to you. All the food is cooked fresh. Even the fries and onion rings. Nothing is frozen and you can tell with each bite we. My wife and I drove up from the Louisville area for a lunchtime road trip and Welch's Riverside Restaurant didn't disappoint. We sat at a table in their enclosed porch with a great view of the Ohio river. Their menu offered a good variety of breakfast items, sandwiches and dinners. They also offered a mix and match lunch special with choice of meat, two vegetables and a roll or cornbread cake. We both chose their meatloaf special and it was very tasty. Service was good but wasn't rushed. Kayla took good care of us. Two plates of food with a couple of iced teas came to just over $17. An excellent value. We'll go back! read more
