Over a two-day period, I was scheduled at Castle Dental for a deep cleaning...technically known as…read moreScaling and Root Planing. This deep cleaning is a more intensive procedure than a standard cleaning and is typically recommended when a dentist finds pockets between your teeth and gums. My deep cleaning was broken down by Castle Dental into two appointments (Wed top teeth and May bottom teeth) to manage comfort and numbing. First the hygienist used a topical anesthetic to numb my gums using a Q-tip with numbing solution and then the dentist injected another anesthetic into my gums...about 8 pricks. Then, the hygienist used an ultrasonic scaler to remove plaque and tartar from the tooth surface and below the gumline. Next she used a metal tool to remove any plaque and tartar not caught by the ultrasonic scaler. She also did root planing, which smooths out the roots of your teeth. This helps the gum tissue reattach to the tooth and makes it harder for bacteria to grow in these areas in the future. My teeth were flossed by the hygienist. Finally, antibiotics were inserted into the gum pockets. The first day the process took about one hour. The process is expensive, but appears to be necessary.

Dr. Williamson operates a very smooth-running practice. Every staff interaction I had (front desk, nurses, techs) was excellent and you can tell there's just good teamwork going on here. I made a special request for my surgical operation and was super grateful that Dr. Williamson was willing to accommodate it. He and Sarah had excellent bedside manner during my operation - it went quick and painless. The recovery was (somewhat predictably) miserable for the first week. I had a few questions about the discomfort I was experiencing and was so appreciative of the staff that went out of their way to proactively check in on me and get answers. They even reached out to Dr. Williamson about one issue on his day off which they didn't have to do. Just had my post-op today follow-up today, a couple weeks later, and everything is in great shape. Despite the challenges in recovery so grateful to have this out of the way and gums that are good to go (as Dr. Williamson put it) for life! Though the office will still bill insurance for you, I could have saved some money working with an in-network provider. However, I think this operation in particular benefits from Dr. Williamson's wealth of experience - my understanding is there's a lot of nuances in sourcing and shaping graft tissue. He does not take insurance (but will file the paperwork), so the patient always has to pay the full amount and then wait to be reimbursed. I don't have any dental insurance and I have amazingly good teeth (never had a cavity), and so I don't like paying for unnecessary services and having a lot of x-rays. I know it's silly, but I'm particularly turned off by x-rays because of a thyroid condition I have and the fact that my mom recently died of cancer. Dr. Hall and his entire staff have been very understanding and accommodating and only require me to have the minimum required by regulations and they make sure I have a full lead smock with a thyroid collar. I take both of my children to Dr. Hall choosing him over pediatric dentists. They feel very at ease with him and they feel like everyone in the office notices them and is excited to see them. We've been to pediatric dentist offices in the past and found the kids are mostly shuttled to video games, movie stations, and the like instead of being doted on by staff. The staff talk to the kids, something they love and appreciate. We've had experiences elsewhere in which the dentist and staff only addressed me the entire time and the kids were treated like plants in the corner and so they super appreciate how they are treated not only like actual people but like VIPs by everyone at Aspire Dental, especially Dr. Hall.
