EDIT 11/3/16: I received a call from Jennifer in management at 11am today. She was very nice and understanding. She gave me the time to explain my entire situation and was receptive to my concerns. She also offered to refund 50% of what I paid which was all I was looking for. I appreciate the concern from management. From my BBB Complaint: A few weeks ago I noticed the billboard on Route 22 East in the area of Union advertising a $69 special for a heating system tune up. I called to inquire and was told that it would be a full preventative maintenance visit and safety check. On 10/28/16 the tech arrived and spent 1.5 hrs inspecting my downstairs furnace. As soon as he walked in the door he tried selling me service plans, a water softener and then continued to try to sell other products amounting to over $20,000. He even used my unborn child as a scare tactic stating if I don't have a full system humidifier and UV light I risk my child's health. He also went on and on about the inducer motor. Now, I'm aware my system is old and has some corrosion but it was FINE. Less than 24hrs later the inducer motor dies. I usually chalk this up to coincidence but this tech was too much of a high pressure salesman for me to not consider tampering. I called and spoke to Jamilla who was wonderful and took my complaint. The next day no call from mgt as requested. Called 10/30 spoke to Nicole who lodged the complaint again. 10/31 no call from mgt, again spoke to Jamilla. Manager Jennifer called at 10am on 11/1, which I missed. I called back at 1230pm and haven't heard back. My main complain is that the special is not a tune up but rather a sales pitch. In their service plan they note "tune up" as an included benefit and "preventative maintenance" as another item. The billboard advertised "tune up" which I did not receive. The scare tactics and over selling are poor business practice. The management response to customer complaints is pitiful. Anton, the tech who came on 10/30 to try to restart the system was phenomenal. Jamilla and Nicole were great. The first tech, Diego and management has left me with no desire to do business. Especially after I was considering purchasing two new furnaces and service plans, then never heard from management in a timely fashion. Desired Resolution: Refund Desired Outcome As a gesture of good faith I request that one or both of my "tune up" fees of $69 is refunded. This is the first time I have ever left a negative review for anyone but it was well deserved. I would leave no * if that was an option. I called Weltman to replace a bobber (like in toilet) for a sump pump. I checked on Amazon before they came and it is a $6 item. I thought I would have it professionally installed instead of doing it myself. Instead of just focusing on the pump tech walked around my house and told me I needed my heating system updated because it was "old". I just had my house renovated and the complete HVAC system replaced. Also, told me that my tankless hot water heater was not installed correctly. I literally told him to stop and just focus on what he came here for but he kept insisting and trying to drum up more business.. Finally he took out his IPAD the act that all unethical places use and gave me a price of $1200 for the replacement of the whole pump. I told him it did not need replacing and motor on pump still worked. He insisted it did not, so I walked over to pump touched the bobber and the water drained out of pit. Needless to say I will NEVER call them again. Weltman themselves may not be bad actors but my service tech just wanted as much $ possible leading me to believe he is commissioned. It was a complete waste of time. The end of the story is that I went to Home Depot bought the part for $4.89 and ended up attaching it in less than 6 minutes. Basement flooded tonight at 10p. Even though they claim to be 24/7, a very rude woman repeatedly told me no one could come until 12p tomorrow. I asked what I should do overnight, with 3 small children in the house...no advice, just that she could schedule me tomorrow. She was extremely robotic and rude. We had signed up as "GOLD" members with them for work done in the past which I know they overcharged us for. Bottom line, don't say you have 24/7 service if you cant provide it for emergencies. Total ripoff artists. Had them come look at a clogged toilet. My son had flushed something down the toilet and it got stuck. Cliff notes version is they started with a price of 1400.....I said thanks but no thanks and then this became let's make a deal as the tech kept lowering the price on his way out the door. They made one last attempt to get the sale by ringing the bell after they had left. Apparently a call to the supervisor got me a HUGE discount and they could do it for just under 500. I politely said no thanks and will be doing it myself this weekend. I think he thought he had us in a bind. Based on the services my sister has not received, I would never ever recommend or use these people. Three service people came to her home & each service call was a charge. However, there has been no followup to fix the problem. She has been given excuses one after another why no one has come back. She has already given them over $1000 which is ridiculous. If you use this company, you are probably getting hosed. Called them to look at a gas boiler that was not firing. Their tech recommended replacing 2 parts on the boiler for $1,700 - but also said I might just want to consider getting a new boiler, his estimate for that job was $12,000! Yep, thats right. $12,000!! I might not be a professional plumber, but I know that a new boiler runs about $3,500. Not sure where that extra $9,000 is coming from? I called a local HVAC company - they immediately noticed that a small part attached to the fan/blower was broken. He went to the supply store and came back with the replacement part in 40 minutes. Boiler was back on line in an hour. total cost: $370. The Weltman tech did not even look at the blower. He went right into a sales pitch for their boilers and warranty plan. Caveat Emptor read more

The guy was on time, and seemed professional and knew what he was doing. This place is a rip off though. $321 to put together a note on company letter head stating the building had working smoke alarms and Carbon Monoxide detectors. $900 to pull 6 smoke detectors off the wall and confirm they are 10 year sealed. $199 for every smoke/carbon monoxide combo detector they would have to install. (You can get them at Home Depot for $75.) the technician tried to tell me that we only had one 10 year sealed smoke alarm in the building. I told him no, I installed all brand new 10 year sealed myself a year ago. He must have thought my partner and I were young and dumb owning such a large apartment building. Little did he know I've been around this shit my whole life. tired of trades people always trying to rip people off so I wrote the review. They're worse than used car salesman and they don't even know it. They try to make a weeks pay in a day. This company wanted $2,500 for a little fire inspection requirement to sell a property. Underachieving repairmen to say the least. We had an electrician come over to our house for fixing some exterior lights. He did not fix those lights, instead he fixed other ground lights, which we did not request fixing. After fixing not even half the ground lights were working. They charged for the diagnostic, which was incorrect as well as the service which was not requested I.e. Fixing the ground lights. Refund/credit check process takes 4 to 6 weeks. Prompt friendly service but they can hire better technicians. read more

They just want to see how much they can charge you. AC wasn't working so called Weltman. $60 visit fee then $300 diagnostic fee!?!? What?!? Then they say it is just a broken thermostat. How much is that? $800 installed. $500 labor and $300 for the thermostat. That's cray. Told him forget it. I bought the best one Home Depot offered for $100 and installed it myself in 15 minutes. I wanted to replace a toilet and I called to ask for an estimate. The lady over the phone told me that to get a technician to my house, I need to pay $40+ and if I decide to go with their service, that fee will be waived. I declined saying I can get other technicians to come over for a free quote. The lady then informed me that since I am a first time customer and 'as a courtesy' they are willing to waive that. I agreed to let them come over. The technician called before arrival and arrived on time, which was good. I then took him to see the toilet that I want to replace. He got out of my house and five minutes later came with an estimate. I was floored. If I supply my own toilet, the labor costs $1,011. If I purchase a toilet from them, the labor together with the part costs $1,527. Yes, the toilet costs $500+, in addition to the already expensive labor. I was so glad that I refused to pay the $40+ fee for the technician just to come to give a quote. Otherwise, I would have been furious. I then called another local plumber in Basking Ridge to come over and give me a quote. The plumber quoted labor of $180 to replace. Wow. $1,011 for replacing a toilet. I am really floored. Needless to say, the place did not get my business and very likely none of their people will ever enter my house again. read more

The average price for service ends up being 500.00 per hour. The service plan is a complete scam. They also unjustly fire employees when it benefits them. The laundry sink drain in our basement was clogged & since I had seen a Weltman truck in our neighborhood (New Providence, NJ) I phoned for a quote but instead was told a $49 charge would be incurred when the rep came and assessed the job.When he came several hours later he agreed it was the line from the laundry sink to the main drain and quoted $285 plus tax. I told him I thought that price was very steep (since I'd seen competitor ads for $99) and asked if there were a discount (senior, veteran etc). He said NO but could waive the $49 house call charge ? and showed me an Ipad screen listing Weltman's charges for drain cleaning ( which displayed a price ABOVE $500 for a laundry sink drain but said he would use the $285 charge shown for a vanity sink ? At this point I reluctantly agreed since it would have cost $49 to decline and have him leave. He used a hand held electric snake and was able to clear the clog. I asked about a warranty and when he asked for how long I suggested 60 days to which he replied he could do 30 days. Yesterday, 38 DAYS LATER, the same drain clogged again so I phoned Weltman and explained that altho we were 8 days beyond the 30 day warranty the rep gave I asked that they re do the job at no cost since it happened so soon and just my wife and I reside in the house and don't run the clothes washer very often. I was treated as though it was my original request ($49 plus whatever the rep would want after arrival) so I asked the woman if I could speak with a mgr but she said he wasn't there. I asked if she would have him call me and she said she would E Mail him and request that he call me. Within minutes, the same woman called me back and said her mgr said 30 days was the policy. She asked if I wanted a rep to come out. I said I would get back to her after I thought about it. I then phoned a well known competitor and asked for a quotes since they advertise "Any drain cleaned for $99". On the phone they said $99, came two hours later and used a large machine on wheels (vs the small hand held tool Weltman used). This man ran that snake 75 feet out beyond the laundry sink drain line into the line that goes to the street (vs 20 feet the Weltman tech told me he did). Not only did this new company honor their $99 advertised price but applied a 5% Senior discount without being asked AND warranties the job for a FULL YEAR during which they will come back AT NO Charge one time. Weltman charged us THREE TIMES as much and obviously didn't do the job properly and then wanted $49 to return (plus probably another $285 + tax to do it again). PS: Before writing this, I phoned Weltman to tell them of my displeasure as well as the fact that I had to spend an additional $99 to do the job after paying them THREE TIMES that much just 38 days prior (during which we may have used the clothes washer a half dozen times).The man I spoke with today at Weltman offered nothing but said he would make his manager aware (after I requested that he take my name and phone. Reason of review: Over Priced and unwilling to return to correct the original problem . Monetary Loss: $300. Preferred solution: Price reduction. Charged us Three times the price and didn't correct the problem. It's now three days later & I've had no response to my request for a Weltman manager to contact me. read more

Horrible experience for a lot of years! Made the mistake of purchasing an HVAC system with a 10 year service contract which we are about 7 years into. They are late or miss appointments most of the time, they try to upsell me on things we don't want like 100 dollar furnace filters, final straw tonight, they are jerking me around about coming out to fix my AC that stopped working after a power failure that was just serviced 2 weeks ago. Multiple calls to a couple of very rude and unhelpful people answering the phones. Still no call back with a solution. i have used Weltman service for 3 years. Paid yearly for "diamond " service. Their constant "upsell" became annoying but their response was fast. Several weeks ago my furnace/ac began switching on without demand. Weltman sold me a 49.00 thermostat for 250.00. Several weeks later-same problem. Same tech now diagnoses new circuit board(1200), new blower motor(800) installation totaled 2400..then said we should probably buy a new furnace. Today a different hvac company replaced circuit board, declared all else fine....750.00. I'm aghast- be careful. If it's not a complete emergency-shop them. I will NEVER use them again read more

I will NOT use Weltman Home Services ever again nor would I ever recommend them. This company is completely unethical. My tenants heat had gone out on a Sunday night. Called two 24/7 places and Weltman got back to me first (the ONLY positive). The tech diagnosed the problem as a bad blower motor. He quoted me a price of almost $1600 AND tried to sell me one of their service contracts, which seemed to be his main priority. I told him i would just pay him for the service call ($170) and would have to call back in the morning. After calling around in the morning I found a local place that replaced the motor for me ( along with a bad heat sensor that the Weltman tech missed) for just $485. The Weltman tech blatantly lied to me saying that the blower motor needed to be "balanced", along with a bunch of other diagnostic B.S. The other tech explained that these motors are self balancing. We had a major sewer drain problem, the dispatcher sent Kevin S to clear the drain at a drain cleanout outside the home, . However when he left later that night, we discovered a leak in the sewer pipe inside the home most likely caused by the sewer drain clogged the day before. He changed that cast iron pipe to PVC. He had to breakout basement cinder block to get at the source, but before leaving used cement to fill in where the cinder block was broken. He did a nice neat job. Kevin is a genuinely pleasant guy and when he left, it wasn't noticeable any work was done. Yes, Weltman is expensive, but probably not much more than the same type service. read more

I only had one experience with Weltman but it wasn't a good one. They were responsive, professional, etc. but the person who looked at my heating system which had stopped working told me something that was just not true - that the turbine or something had seized up and could no longer move and the system would have to be replaced. Well the next day my dad came over and said it was not seized up and even got it working again temporarily. Will not be using them again read more

yelp nation please steer clear of this company. they are in the business of gouging your eyes out, if they suspect they can. not an honest company!!!!!!!!!!! should you fall and bump your head and end up calling them, fact check everything they tell you on pricing with old reliable pse&g. weltman's came out and gave me a price of $1,435 to replace the blower motor on our furnace. he charged me $52.35 to tell me this! i asked him how much was the part and he said, "you will have to give me a deposit before i can make the call to order the part!" i guess sucker was stamped on my forehead. we escorted him out and called pse&g who promptly came out and replaced the blower for $335 total cost installed. needless to say we signed up for their worry free service, like i should have in the first place. weltman's tried to charge almost 500 percent more!!!!!!!!!!! p.s. steer clear of weltman's service plan, it looks like a mimic of pse&g's worry free service except they have all of these levels of service i.e. silver, gold and platinum. steer clear of these rip off artists. if i could submit this review with no stars that's what they would get. i think if they stop putting so many tags on your appliances when they come to your house, they could become competitive price wise with pse&g. he left 6 weltman tags with their number on every water pipe, furnace, water line in my house..........not!!!!!!!! when they tell you they are going to make a call to find something out and they go outside to talk and not in front of you, the fix is on. read more

My husband looked up plumbers in the area and found this one. I had to rearrange my schedule to be home for the plumber because they had very limited slots available. We asked them repeatedly over the phone how much the job would cost, and they told us they couldn't even give us a roundabout estimate until they came out and looked at the job. Our kitchen faucet broke, and we went to Home Depot to get a new one. We just needed somebody to install it... Of course, they charged us the $49 fee just to stop by our home. Then the estimated cost to repair the faucet was $800! How is it so much? We are providing them with the parts. It cost over $300 and then they "found" several other things that were "urgent" and would have cost over a$1K. One of those was replacing rusty pipes on a sink that never leaked before and now, magically since their visit, does for the first time. I needed a couple of things done in my home with plumbing. A rep named Jason B showed up exactly on time. He was clean, courteous, professional and knowledgeable. I thought he would just give me a quote and reschedule for the work but he did it on the spot. He replaced my sump pump and put a cartridge in a shower faucet. Pricing was high but I don't mind paying for quality workmanship. While here he examined my furnace and noted a large piece of vent insulation blocking my intake. That alone will save me $$$ this summer. Jason also gave me some other options with possible problems with my plumbing in the future that he pointed out. I was impressed with this company and took an HVAC service plan for only $20/month. The only reason for 4 instead of 5 stars was the pricing. read more

Good hours but bad pricing, questionable business practice. My central AC stopped working during the heat wave. They told me $50 for a tech to come out. Tech shows up quarter to 6pm for a 2-4pm window on a Sat. Came inside, and right before he was about to check the unit, told me it'll be $360 just to diagnose the issue. And that it'll be credited back to me if I decide to let him fix it. That should have raised a red flag about this guy and Weltman. But since it was on a late and hot Saturday, I went ahead and told him to proceed. It took him 5 mins to diagnose the blower is not working. Cost of repair is $1800 for parts and labor. But I was told if I sign up for their maintenance plan, it'll be $1600. It was late so I paid the ransom. Afterwards he also tried to sell me another $1200 of services with my unit. I declined. This week, I had my furnace checked out by another HVAC company (Edison heating and cooling). I was talking to the tech and he said he also services AC units in the summer months. I asked how much to replace a blower without disclosing how much I paid, he quoted me $500 for parts and labor, no need for any maintenance plans. Lesson learned, should have went with my instinct and slept with the fan for a day or two and save over $1000. Plus I will not give Weltman another dollar in my life. Weltman charged me an OUTRAGEOUS price to clear a plugged drain. It took seven hours but they charged me $2100 plus tax with minimal parts. This is approx. $300 per hour labor rate. The plumber did only routine plumber work - snake drains , cut pipe, replace sink trap, open up sheetrock, etc. I acted as the helper and it was my idea that solved the problem. I cancelled my service agreement and will never use them again. read more

I could install a brand new attic fan for even lower prices, around $600. I was very unhappy that they change me the diagnostic fee and needless to say. I would not let them repair it. Weltman charges high fees for their services based upon quality work; not true. Weltman's service fees are out of line with the current market and service standards fall within the lower-range of any service organization that offers contracts for preferred rates. The technician was still unable to respond to my question even after three service visits. Stick with a dedicated trade professional to perform the work. Not returning phone calls in unacceptable in any service-related industry. $1200 to furnish/replace three outdoor light fixtures and $200 to fix two years later. It took three weeks to have fixture repaired, but after paying the $200, light still didn't work . They did come back and changed the bulb (even though it had nine year life expectancy) as a "one time courtesy". You be the judge. read more

Buyer be very aware. End of 2014, we spent almost $14,000 with Weltman Home Services for a new A/C system that was also installed by them. We thought it best to proceed with Weltman as we were current service contract client's of theirs. But the system was not installed correctly and we had water damage in our attic and on the second floor of our house. This was confirmed by the technician who initially came out to look at the system at about 1am in the morning. This was back in June. It's now end of September, and they're still fighting us on the cause of the damage, only because we're now going through our respective insurance companies. Note that we're only doing this because they low-balled how much they were willing to compensate us for, for all the damage and repairs. And this was after a remediation crew verified and tried to help limit the damage. Based on our experience - particularly disappointing as we have a service contract with Weltman - would strongly recommend not proceeding with them for this type of work. read more

They can keep their red carpet and booties!.... My ac broke during a summer heat wave... I called because I had seen their commercial... The uniformed, clean cut professional rolled out the rug and put on his booties... My home was super hot now , nearly unlivable with no working a/c.... Into the attic he went, and returned a short time later saying that the system was shot, and he couldn't get it working at all ...... He said a new system would ballpark cost around 9k, but once he reported this to headquarters he would have the NEW INSTALLATION DIVISION call me to schedule an estimate..... I called my wife at her work, telling her that we would have to go stay with family temporarily..... Thank goodness that a woman who works with my wife said she used JAYSON and called them for us.... I opened the door to a sweaty, dirty, JAYSON tech with a filthy tool box..... The total opposite appearance of the WELTMAN tech (needless to say, no red carpet or booties)... I was desperate to get relief, so I let him in and into the attic he went...... 30 minutes later and he still didn't come down...... SUDDENLY, I HEARD THE SYSTEM START UP AND COLD AIR WAS FLOWING!!... YES!!.. HE GOT THE SYSTEM TO WORK!!.... he came down finally, looking like he had gone swimming with his clothes on...... "your system is old, and the coil is rotting, but it should make it through this summer...... I am going to check the condenser outside now".... He said he charged it and we should be ok for the remainder of the summer....... Charged me $165 for everything........ WELTMAN had no interest in trying to help me get relief..... they were quick to try to install a new system that I didn't necessarily immediately need.... My old system worked for 2 more seasons after this....... I love telling this story because I learned so much that day........I hope you did too! read more

Very professional and detailed appointment. First time home owner and felt very comfortable with the service I received.

after seeing their website, i tried to use weltman 2x for different projects. the first experience should have clued me in. i initially set up an appointment to have an special electric socket installed, waited all day on a saturday, my one day off, for the technician, was called at 2pm to be told he was running late at another job. received another call at 5:30 pm to be told they werent coming at all. 1 whole day wasted!!!!! rescheduled, only have the same thing happen, only this time was worse because i actually took the day off from work to have this done!!!!!!! should have known better than to try again, but i made the mistake of calling them 2 weeks later for repairs on my sewer line pipe, met with a representative/ saleperson (beware), on a sunday, was told i needed a camera scoping of my sewer line to determine the problem, was charged a $50 deposit for this $237 service, and was told i would be called monday morning to be told what time the technician would be by on monday. took another day off of work, and after waiting till 12:30, i called them, since i got no call. was told by phone receptionist that she would forward my call to the technician and i would be receiving a call within an hour. 3 hours later, i receive a call from weltman phone receptionist stating that the dont have the camera scoping equipment available!!!!! and would not be coming!!!!!!!!!! wtf!!!!!!! no apology or nothing, i immediately stated i wanted my credit card refunded for the deposit, and was told it would be....... after wating a week and seeing no refund in action, i called again to request a refund, was told by phone operator that there was a miscommunication somewhere and my refund was never issued but she would do it now!!!!!! unbelievable!!!! 2 weeks after the initial charge and i still have no refund yet. funny thing is, they answer the phone by asking 'how may i exceed your expectations?' i have to assume that after hearing this greeting and then experiencing the type of service they provide to customers, that comedy must also be a service they provide. how can you exceed my expectations? show up for a darn pre-setup appointment, for starters!!!! stay far away from this company!!!!!!!! read more
