The building itself is great -- adobe-style, colorful, and exactly what you hope a Mexican restaurant looks like. When you walk in, the atmosphere is lively and welcoming. We were greeted right away and seated immediately. Chips and salsa came out quickly. The salsa tasted fresh and traditional, but it had a little more kick than I personally can handle. (If you like spicy, you'll probably love it.) We also ordered guacamole, because we order guacamole everywhere we go -- it's kind of our thing. This one surprised us a bit. Instead of the usual chunky guac with onions and tomatoes, it was more like mashed avocado with a generous amount of red pepper flakes. Unfortunately that pushed it into "too spicy for me" territory. For drinks we shared a piña colada, which was fantastic -- topped with whipped cream and a cherry and exactly what you want after a long day of driving. I ordered the combo fajitas (chicken and steak) and they came out sizzling hot on the classic cast-iron platter with peppers, onions, and tomatoes. Always a good sign when you can hear your dinner coming from across the room. It came with rice, beans, sour cream, and guacamole on the side. The rice had a nice smoky flavor and the beans were topped with melted cheese -- both really good. They don't automatically include shredded cheese with the fajitas, but they happily brought some when I asked. My husband ordered the chicken and cheese quesadilla appetizer, but when it arrived we both laughed because it was enormous -- definitely entrée-sized. He said it was really good and had no trouble finishing it. Service was a little slow, but the place was busy and had a great vibe. It felt like one of those local spots people in town love. It's also right near the highway, which probably makes it a popular stop for travelers like us. Prices were about what you'd expect for a sit-down Mexican restaurant. No military discount, but overall still a solid experience. If we find ourselves driving through Trinidad again, we'd absolutely stop back in.

My daughter isn't usually a big burger fan, but she absolutely loved their smash burger. I tried two different egg sandwiches on our visits, and both were outstanding. Everything we ordered was fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. Almack's has officially become a regular stop for our family whenever we're traveling through Colorado. On August 8th, we stopped on our drive to Colorado and I wish we had not. First, there were flies flying around the dining room. Second, it was the slowest and most disorganized restaurant that I have seen! The manager on duty had to call someone on the phone to ask how to handle a simple refund issue. That issue seemed to grind the entire restaurant to a halt and delay everyone else's orders. If the person in the store cannot handle it, then he is not truly a manager or supervisor. When it takes nearly 20 minutes to get your order filled, it is not fast food, but slow food. Next time I am driving through the area, I will skip this location and keep driving. read more

There were 6 tables seated in the whole place at 6:00 on a Friday and only one server was seen, although two other staff members walked by here and there from the back and didnt acknowledge us. Considering that all the folks already had their food, we were curious as to why no one was doing anything. We finally got seated by the bus boy and after a few minutes he came back and asked us about drinks because still no wait staff showed their faces. After we were there about 25 minutes a waitress graced us with her presences. We placed our order and waited another 25 minutes for 3 entrees. Our daughter's pancakes came without the whipped cream and syrup, the mixed fruit bowl was all grapes and one strawberry, my over-easy eggs were overcooked, my wife's fries were cold and soggy, and her fish was way overcooked. The waitress forgot our onion rings which showed up when we were basically done, and when our food arrived I reminded her about our two chocolate milks; she brought mine and not my son's, and then 7 minutes later she showed up with his. We ended up not drinking them because they weren't the chocolate milk that Denny's usually serves, we got white milk with some chocolate syrup stirred in. There was just enough syrup to change the milks color slightly, but not enough to even taste. These folks, although very pleasant, did about everything wrong that you could do wrong in the restaurant service industry. We will still go to Denny's and enjoy our food and experience, but we won't go to Denny's in Raton ever again. Please, go somewhere else.

This is a gourmet sandwich shop with one of the cleanest kitchens I have seen in years. The food was absolutely delicious. This is not a fast food store even if it has a walk up window. The food is all hand prepared, and the foods have delicious seasonings that are their signature seasonings. The chef is a culinary school graduate with a number of years of experience, but this is his first personally owned business in the food court and he wanted to make it a memorable experience for his customers and he has succeeded. I have attached the menu in the photos section. One of his signature items is his French Onion Soup which was a local favorite and which we wish to try next time. The "Restaurant" is in the Marketplace in Trinidad, Colorado. Because he is in a food court, the menu is limited and now includes mainly soups, salads, and sandwiches and soft drinks. (There are other booths where you can get alcoholic drinks and deserts to go with his dishes) I had Pozole for a starter which was outstanding with just the perfect level of heat. My husband had the coleslaw for his starter which was marvelously crisp and well seasoned. For our main, we both had the special for the day which was a Crab Roll. We used to live on the East Coast and one of our favorite foods was the Lobster Roll and this was right up there with the best we had there. Even the French fries are made from scratch! They offer vegan and gluten free options as well as their standard items. The Twisted Pig is all hand made with locally sourced products from the baked buns for the sandwiches, the meat from Colorado farms, and salad goods from his trusted suppliers all in the US. It is a bit hard to find. When you enter the food court, there are a number of outlets in the main room, nearly all of which rely on frozen foods from national suppliers. The Marketplace is on one of the main streets of a quaint old town. Unfortunately, his booth is not visible from the front door. You have to turn to the left in the first hallway and Twisted Pig is at the end of that corridor. It is popular among the local residents and it is always has a line waiting. Since all foods are hand prepared, it may take 15 minutes or so to get your meal so you can sit at one of the tables in the food court and wait for your buzzer. I highly recommend it.... We travel alot world wide, and we will definitely be making future stops here when we travel to Colorado. By the way, if you haven't visited Trinidad, Colorado, it is well worth a stop to explore this historic town.
