However, we decided to bring other people along this last time and let them try it and it was not great. The staff does not know the menu and instead of black pepper chicken which was ordered. The provided pepper steak (green peppers) and proceeded to tell us that they added some black pepper to it and that makes it black pepper chicken. It was fast and delicious! I got the vegetable stir fry with fried rice and asked for no corn, no problem! And I ordered shrimp spring rolls. I was a little disappointed when I saw that they were lightly fried, but then I took a bite and they are perfectly delicious! Lots of plump shrimp in a very thin wrap, and lightly fried to just barely golden--just enough to give it a super crunch without getting oily and soggy. After enjoying the other restaurants in the new strip mall, I decided to try the last one on the list and it is Wens Cafe. The dining room is comfortably nice but not overstated, and the employees promptly greet you upon entering. The menu had american/chinese options, so I decided to try a favorite dish of mine which is hunan chicken along with chicken egg rolls. The order came within 10 minutes and it was pipping hot. The hunan chicken was loaded with shaved chicken breast, peppers and water chestnuts to name a few. Also, the dish was spicy but not overpowering. The egg rolls were filled with cabbage and chicken, and they were fried perfectly and were not greasy. Finally, the dish was excellent, the service was prompt and friendly, and the envirenment was very comfortable and casual. Visit this restaurant because you will not be disapponted. read more

I like it her i especially love their chicken wings. I wish they had more options for lunch and that it was available on the weekends. I have to go to the other Chinese restaurant if it's the weekend and I want lunch menu prices. Now what I do t like here that's horrible is their dumplings! I didn't want to leave this review. I understand mistakes happen and the food can't always be great. I've ordered many times from wens and it's always been a good experience, especially for delivery. Last night was not. I called to give my feedback to the man who answered the phone. Told him I did not want to leave a bad review but instead just share my bad experience. The general taos chicken was extremely dry and no flavor. Tough to chew or even finish. He replied that he works in 4 restaurants and I didn't know what I was talking about. No refund. No apology. Wen's is the best Chinese food that I have had in Central Texas. It is as good as anything you will find in Houston or San Francisco. We had hope that finally a good Asian food place was moving to Hutto. Unfortunately, we were let down again... - Told one price on the phone, driver showed up and it was $10 higher. Miscommunication? Possibly, fair enough. - Driver 'demands' a certain % tip, on par with a tip you'd receive at a full service restaurant. Pretty low. - Open up the bag, alas, missing food.... Well, it's technically food, I guess. My husband had the sesame chicken, which was some chunks of chicken swimming in some sauce that came out with a tiny sprinkling of pale sesame seeds on it, which I guess was supposed to signify that this brown sauce was supposed to be the sesame sauce. There wasn't an edible vegetable to be seen on the plate, either, which is always a let down. He ate it, but said he wouldn't come back. I had already made that decision before we ever came in when, in the parking lot, I looked over their menu to see the ONLY tofu dish on the menu was ma po tofu (super soft tofu). I would have been happy to pay extra to add tofu to one of their vegan dishes if they had anything other than really soft tofu, but they don't. Service was meh. No one ever came to check on my husband after delivering his food, which at least came in a timely manner. While we were here, the only other table that was in the restaurant at the time had apparently ordered off the vegan menu and had one of their dishes delivered to the table with egg in it. They had to explain the difference between vegetarian and vegan to the waitstaff, so if you order a vegan item over the phone, I'd be INCREDIBLY specific about what you don't want in your meal. They also play contemporary Christian music in the restaurant, which is a huge turn off. If I wanted religion, I'd seek it out on my own. Honestly, if this place WAS good, this issue alone would be reason enough to make me not come back. It's a real shame this place is a huge miss, because the place is really nicely furnished and it's in a great location. They've just got a LONG way to go to do better. read more
