Had dinner here a few nights ago. I may have just gotten unlucky with my ordering, but the food was quite bad. We ordered the appetizer sampler and the only mildly tasty item were the Alpacurrias. Everything else was overly fried and greasy. My main dish was the Mahi-Mahi and I was barely able to eat any of it - way, waaay overcooked, deep fried to a crisp, and the sauce didn't help either. It's not just that I didn't enjoy the fried food - the Mofongo plantains on the side were like eating cardboard, except cardboard has more taste (normal sweet plantains were good though). I will say the restaurant is very nice, and I think the play here may be to come for a few drinks and maybe get some sweet plantains as an appetizer. If you're planning to eat at Wepa for your main meal though, I'd recommend staying away! read more

This is a review from someone that was born and raised in Puerto Rico and moved to the States as an adult. This place is okay and. overpriced. I have only came once due to the customer service. You would think that because you are also Puerto Rican you would be treated like home. Sadly to say, that was not the case. Wow! What can I say?! First off our waitress was so patient and kind. She really took time to get us familiar with our menu and the unique items! Second off the restaurant is GORGEOUS and so clean and every dish is picture worthy. The atmosphere makes me feel like I'm on a vacation! Very comfortable, you could make it a date night and dress up or you could stroll in casually from the greenbelt- you'll feel welcome either way! But now- the food! So unique, honestly, you get so much food for the price you pay, you will walk out so full and having experienced such a cool array of flavors you may never have even known existed. I got coconut mahi mahi and it's the best I've ever had! My partner let the waitress pick and she got us all the best stuff. Definitely get an appetizer and a drink, it's so worth it. have been here twice. the first time we sat in the charming upstairs patio area, received amazing service, and above-average food (pernil for me, pollo con arroz for my partner). overall, a 4-star experience our 1st visit. tonight was our 2nd visit. we were very disappointed. we sat in the main dining area, which was nice enough, but very loud/echoey, making conversation difficult. the service was subpar (slow, inattentive) and the food was nearly inedible. the pernil had the taste/texture of pork boiled in plain water. the bone-in pork chops were more like thin grizzly pork cutlets. they were overcooked (leather-esque), and tasted old. overall, a 2-star experience for this visit. we'll give these guys 1 more try, based on how much we enjoyed our 1st visit. hopefully they were just having an off night tonight...? read more

I visited for my birthday arriving around 4:15 to an almost empty place. The owner was rude multiple times. We asked to be on the rooftop patio and they said there was room until he found out there were five of us, then said they can only have one "big" group up there. He rudely informed us that the inside was all reserved so we would have to sit in the parking lot seating area. We asked if we could just order appetizers, then move up there when it opened up and he said no, we could not move. We asked to sit inside at the bar to wait and he said it'll be at least 1.5 hours. He was not pleasant at any point in this conversation. The umbrella helped (the day was hot) and we informed them we were going to ask the others if they were okay with it before ordering drinks. He once again, in a rude voice said, it's just as hot up there. We almost left, but I was looking forward to the dessert as it was my second time there and I really love their dessert. When our final guest arrived, he went upstairs thinking we were up there and saw a group of folks standing up as if to leave, they were the "big" group of five. So he asked if we could move up there after they left. He was rudely told no. Then the owner came out to me and came really close and challenged the group, but especially me by saying, "I already told you you cannot move, why did you send him in to ask and who got the idea anyone was leaving?" It was such a weird confrontation and I had nothing to do with my SIL asking. It was my birthday and he was trying to let them know that's where we wanted to be. If we hadn't ordered appetizers yet, we would've left. Everyone was so turned off by his rudeness and inflexibility at 4:30 in the afternoon. It wasn't even prime time and the seats inside were still empty when we left. The waitress was outstanding. We could tell she was embarrassed by his outbursts. One of these things being said or even two would've been fine. But he continued to be confrontational instead of hospitable (there are much kinder ways to say no) so as a result, none of us will ever return. They say it doesn't hurt to ask, but at this place it does, so don't ask or expect any flexibility or accommodations. read more

Wow. I loved my experience here. This restaurant is brand new and located in a cute new building. The service was welcoming and we loved the vibe of the restaurant. It was too cold to sit outside but they have a huge patio with heaters that will be so fun in the warmer months. To eat, we ordered two pastelillos for appetizers. We tried the picadillo and the guava and cream cheese and I would definitely get both again. We got the carne frita and the arroz con pollo for our entrees which were both wowwww. I got married last summer and wanted a somewhat intimate brunch reception. Art, the owner of Wepa Cafe, provided our wedding guests such an enjoyable experience. He helped me customize a brunch menu that was served buffet style. Many of our guests were unfamiliar with Puerto Rican food and loved it! Mimosas with tropical fruit juice were a hit. There was also a selection of beer on tap and canned cocktails. The staff went above and beyond to welcome us and did an amazing job. We had approximately 80 guests and the size of the restaurant was perfect with an upstairs roof top bar, front patio, and main dining room. The food was set up in the main bar area and the flow was perfect. There was also enough room to set up a memorial table and a table for gifts and our guest book. Art suggested family style seating which worked out perfectly and allowed all of our favorite people and family to interact and get to know each other. The restaurant is adorable with a tasteful tropical theme that was perfect for a summer time reception. I opted to have the house music playing as I wanted my guest to enjoy each others company. Art was more than willing to accommodate a playlist or music of my choice. He also offered the option of accommodating a DJ so we could have a dance floor set up and more of a party in the parking lot. The location in Garden City was perfect! We had guests staying at the Riverside Hotel within walking distance of the restaurant and it is only a 5-10 minute Uber/ Lyft ride from downtown Boise. We were also very happy to support a local Boise business owner. We had such an amazing day and experience thanks to Art and his team! read more

I had my doubts! I couldn't believe that there could be a good, authentic PuertoRican restaurant in Boise, Idaho. How could it being so far from the island's spices? How could they "really" know how to prepare a succulent pernil? Or, alcapurrias? (Don't you need the Caribbean Sea to make them? Lol!) We bought every item on the menu and they were all consistently delicious. Even items that never have been my favorites (e.g. vanilla flan) I have to admit, we're simply delicious at Wepa. Stumbled across this lovely place on an afternoon drive. Excellent service, friendly and welcoming! Since we were a quick stop in to check it out we shared the appetizer sampler, enjoyed a couple malata beverages, and a delectable guava chocolate mouse. The food was flavorful and enjoyable.
