I would say the empanadas were particularly good so they come first, then the pernil and last the churrasco. The staff was friendly and helpful. The chicken stew was overly salty, and I believe there was one piece of dime-sized chicken in the bowl. The dish was essentially a bowl of rice with a salty sauce. Tostones were really dry and almost hard to swallow. We visited with friends who had raved about Wepa, but sadly we were a bit disappointed. Fingers crossed it was an off night. read more

So we showed up on opening day, we were super exited being from Puerto Rico, we got seated right away, but it took almost 1/2 hour for someone to show up to take our order, meanwhile everyone else was eating, the food was good, the carne frita was good the servings were small compare to your typical puetorrican rest., the mofongo was very bland, no chicharrones or seasoning. Dropped in last night for a quick bite, my wife and I have been wanting to try this place. It did not disappoint. Dining room was casual and clean with a modern aesthetic. All the dishes were affordably priced around $12-13. We got the chicken and rice and one of the pork entrees. While the pork was incredible, tasty and delicious, the chicken and rice really rocked my world. While I couldn't eat some of their "empanada" style dishes that looked really good, I would say 80-90% of their dishes are already gluten-free. Wepa! is such a wonderful addition to Boise. I have been there several times since their 10/1/2021 opening and have been incredibly pleased each time. Everything from steak to chicken to fish is flavorful, savory, and so very yummy! The atmosphere makes me feel like I've gone back to visit beautiful Puerto Rico. Their additions for special lunch and happy hour selections have been a nice variety as well. Hands down Wepa! meals compete, if not beat, all restaurants I tried in Puerto Rico. My wife and I had a fantastic experience here. I had the roast pork shoulder and she had the yucca root. Both were incredibly tasty, different from other dishes that one finds around town, and served up efficiently. The waitress, Reagan, was great as was the young man who brought our food and cleared our plates. Even the music really worked. And we really appreciate the biodegradable to go boxes.My only complaint is that one of the umbrellas that should've been blocking the sun or table was not functioning. Received an email from Yelp about new spots in the area. After checking the menu four of us tried the Wepa Cafe. It was great, We started with the Pastelillos and the Wepa Bites, a bottle or red and one of white - perfect. We followed it with Arrozo con Pollo (a little lite on the Pollo but excellent), Churrasco - excellent, Mofongo with Carne Frita - excellent and the Carne Frita dish - excellent. Service was prompt, polite and friendly. Atmosphere, cleanliness, ease of parking, all first class. Great experience and we will be back. read more

Nothing here I've had was really outstanding. I have visited four times and had different things, including specials, and all were "meh." The service good, the noise level is incredibly loud, especially with children screaming. I've had the pernil-ok, it's roast pork. Mofongo: thought I swallowed cement, it lay that heavy in me. Pastillo, probably the best of the lot, but needed their vinegar sauce to give it flavor. Had coconut mahi mahi...ok but overcooked and dry. Special of shrimp, calamari, scallops...overcooked and had a fishy smell. I told a Puerto Rican friend of mine about Wepa Cafe and that I've had Puerto Rican food. She responded simply: "No you haven't." I will have to agree with her. It's different cuisine for Boise, but it's not worth the drive from Meridian and putting up with screaming children for mediocre food. If you're already in Garden City, other places are better but I want to see GC thrive so I'm giving them 3 stars. read more

Four of us stopped to try Wepa after a beautiful day walking the greenbelt. Two of us really enjoyed a roasted pork entree. One of us ordered Carne Frita and the pork although seasoned well was so dry it was mostly inedible, the rice cold, but the mofongo plantain as a side was good and the little pot of beans was nice. The last of us ordered the chicken Mogongo entree, but ended up getting the Carne Frita pork entree. We thought maybe the chicken was just overcooked too but realized late that it was pork and a duplicate of the Carne Frita. The food runner looked odd when setting the dish down when we said chicken...but didn't say anything. Service just average. No one asked how our meal was or if there were any issues or if we wanted anything else to drink. We've been to Puerto Rico and thought the food was great. I think we will try again to see if it was just an off day in the kitchen...Sunday chef? Gave two stars because half of us had a good experience. read more

Was absolutely spectacular. While I have limited experience with authentic Puerto Rico's cuisine, I do love food that creates an experience! This is it. The restaurant is very attractive to the eye. You're greeted by the owner Art as if you are family. The menu has tastes for everyone. I will never order the same twice, at least not until I tour the whole menu. Different, delicious, delightful dinner. We hadn't had Puerto Rican food before today, but now I'm looking forward to the next time. It was great! The servers were incredibly helpful and patient with newcomers to the cuisine. My spouse and I shared a appetizer sampler and a mofongo with chicken. We loved them both, but I fell pretty hard for the mofongo. I ate it side-by-side with the rice and beans and loved the flavors. If we lived in the Boise area, we'd make this place a regular on our dinner spots. read more

We met friends out for dinner and drinks, WOW! We were so impressed! Didn't know what to expect, but it ended up being one of our best dining experiences in Idaho. Crazy cool little spot down in the ever improving Garden City enclave of boutique businesses, this new ultra cool building offers a modern, bright dining experience with exceptional service from knowledgeable wait staff. Very professional in their explanations of dishes, and presentation, this place could rival any San Francisco eatery (my old stomping grounds). Food was high quality, well prepared and beautifully presented. If only they could offer more tropical fare in their bar menu. I did however enjoy my Bacardi rum punch canned beverage, but a real Pina colada would put the icing on my cake. My fellow diners were beer lovers and were quite surprised and happy that the house pour on tap was a tropical hazy. Must have been great as all three of them ordered a second. Dessert was a slice of Pina colada cheesecake which was fantastic. This will certainly not be our last visit to Wepa Cafe, and am glad they take reservations, as I'm sure I will need them once folks catch on to how great this place is. read more
