The best for old series rovers. Did a great job on my front pumpkin. Very knowledgeable.

Sadly Mike really let us down. We met Mike on his Off-road Experience through a friend in Nevada. It seemed like he knew about older Rovers, even though his conversations with anyone around were always a rough and a little rude. When we came back from the trip we brought in our '95 Range Rover soft dash for a service and to tackle some engine issues. He almost immediately gave us the bad news that he thought the engine needed a full rebuild. We trusted him and we left the vehicle. Initially we were given an estimate of 4-6 weeks. 2 months later we had to call him to ask where we were with the rebuild. He said he hadn't even started and that he was busy prepping his race car. We asked what the issue was and he didn't have an answer and said we can always just come pick up our vehicle. We came to pick up the vehicle and he assured us he could do the engine and would start shortly. This was confusing, but we left the vehicle and waited for him to complete the work. Finally in a couple more months we got a big bill, which he said we were only able to pay by check or cash. Honestly we were excited to pickup the car and didn't really think anything else of it. We drove out of the shop and got on the freeway when the car started smoking. We called Mike and he gruffly said that it was fine and just oil burning off. By the time we arrived at home, we live in the Danville area, the car was barely operational. We called Mike again who told us he had a few restorations underway and he didn't have time to look at it. We called a third time and he said there was really no way he could help us, but in a completely rude way. I couldn't believe it. I'd never been talked to that way on the phone by anyone. We figured out why he wanted us to pay with a check so we couldn't get any recourse of the payment. We ended up having to go to another shop and completely rebuild the engine again. We found out he billed us for new parts when they were used and broken in addition to cutting gaskets and hoses roughly by hand so it looked like a mess under the hood and spilled oil and coolant everywhere. The final conclusion we wanted to share was that Mike is beyond rude, a poor mechanic, an unethical businessman and a dishonest person. I would suggest avoiding this shop at all costs since the alternative was our expensive mistake with our beloved RR "soft dash". read more

First experience with West Coast British last week was exceptional. Mike and Max sorted out the brake issue on my TR6, as well as tuned the carbs. My take is that they are honest and knowledgeable with British cars. I have some other work to be done and will be back to see them. read more

I've tried to give my business now twice to this place. Terrible customer service, knowledge, and service. Worst Land Rover shop in the area

This time around, I brought in the D2 because the bottom radiator hose assembly crapped out on me. I called Livermore Landrover parts department planning to DIY it and they said that the part would have to be ordered and it would take them at least a day to get it. I left a message with their Service department and they never got back to me....so i'm back to West Coast British. WCB was straight forward with me. It was too late on Wednesday for them to get the part ordered but their warehouse had it available and they could get the part in an hour... they were not going to be available to work on it on Thursday but I could have it towed there and they would work on it friday and have it ready the same day. Mike said that he had no idea what parts would run but he filled out an estimate at about $300. After replacing a few hoses, the t-stat and refilling the truck with coolant I got a bill for $370. So he was pretty close to his estimate. The truck was ready friday afternoon as promised. Thanks again Mike! read more

Ha!! I was/am also impressed he fixes the Dalai Lama's land rover! I have been taking my Land Rover to Mike for a few years and he is the best! There are some things he can't do and I have to take it to the dealer and he hates my car because of the year it is but for all the other things my car needs he is great. Probably the worst telephone experience I ever had in looking to buy a car. They're craiglist listing should have been the giveaway and I quote "No Tire kickers, No BS, No Nothing, Contact for $ then Bring cash! :)" So I started the conversation by saying "I'm interested in the car but its probably out of my price range", his response before I could continue was a gruff, "it probably is and they all are" I just hung up, what an ass. read more

Not helpful, but quite expensive. The Land Rover is old, but new to us. It did not pass smog, so we thought he could help. So we took the car to him for a once over and to fix the smog problem. He found many problems, which were rather expensive to fix. So, we had the problems fixed. Regarding the smog problem, he sold me a gas cap for $15 and said "that usually fixes it". Of course it did not. The smog guys laughed and asked who gave that great advice... They also said that any shop that claims to have fixed the smog problem is on the hook until it REALLY IS fixed. I don't trust him to touch the car again. He did not listen to the problem (smog), and did not fix the problem (smog) but was very happy to find other problems. We've found another mechanic who listens to what we want fixed. read more

Mike rebuilt the engine for my Triumph TR4, he's a great mechanic and an acquired taste. For some he may come off as gruff or rude at first and he's a bit eccentric, which may account for some of the negative reviews, but I wasn't there so I can't speak to that. I will say once you get to know him he's a good guy at least that has been my experience. His work takes a little time but patience pays off. Mike built me an engine that is great for the road but has performance reserved only for the best tuned race cars. I've found he's always been ready to help me with any advice I need. His specialty is classic Range Rovers and British race engines so while he may be willing to do an oil change or tune up on your modern ride you may want to look elsewhere for that. read more

Gone to WCB for a few years now really only for the good price... two years ago I had my Rover towed up from LA, and repaired at WCB for less than a dealership estimate. However this week Michael really showed that he is not just a quality low cost mechanic. Upgrading to an off road Suspension, and fixing an overheating issue both with their own set of special requirements. He knows Rovers, and that is what you get, a guy that does it right, and does not price gouge. read more

I never thought we could be suckered so badly. Brought in our Land Rover to be serviced, based on the great Yelp reviews we saw here. I should have read the ones hidden and not recommended before taking our car here. These guys are angry and dishonest. the price for repairing the car kept going up. They knew we were desperate to get our car back, so we kept agreeing to the additional charges. $6,000 later (could have sold the car instead and bought another one) we get our car back. It was worse than it was before we brought it to these crooks. We had to get rid of it ASAP and get a new one, so now we have car payments because we spent everything we had and more at this sketchy repair shop. I really wouldn't wish this experience on anyone else. Take your Land Rover to the dealer instead. The initial quote may be less but be warned.....the price will change and they will still have your car in pieces, forcing you to agree to each additional increase in price. read more

He fixes the Dalai Lama's land rover, people! (YES, the Dalai Lama rides in a land rover and not a prius, sorry to disappoint). I used to loathe taking my car in for service until I discovered Michael Green at West Coast British, who in addition to being a completely trustworthy and nice guy, also happens to be one of the foremost land rover mechanics in the world. I hate to even call Mike a mechanic because he's really an enthusiast -- he truly loves discussing, fixing and driving land rovers, and he's probably taught me 90% of what I know about my car. read more

For all you land-rover owners out there...ditch the dealers and let Mike work his magic on your car. For years prior, I foolishly wasted my money at the dealers who do nothing more than replace parts without any thought or intelligence to troubleshooting (hence, the horrendous bills). Mike is extremely knowledgeable in what he does and simply has a passion for his work. If you don't believe me, take a look at his ground-up restorations. In addition to general maintenance, the shop does custom jobs and modifications per your request. I don't trust anyone else to work on my rover and will drive across state borders for his work. read more

Especially if you have an older Land Rover, this is a good place to go. These guys are PROs and know Land Rovers or many vintages inside and out. I have an older Discovery and Mike knew all about the details and idiosyncrcies even this older model system. He also pointed out a cheap fix for something that certainly saved me money in the end. It's a smaller shop in a basic garage, so don't expect a Dealer experience with a marble waiting room, but it was a good place to take my D2. read more

Great shop! Mike is an awesome guy with a lot of good stories and great experience as a former engineer for LR. Just took a Discovery there for a pre-purchase inspection which he did for free! Definitely my go to guy in the future. read more

I brought my range here for a change oil and transmission fluid change , it was simple they got it done and was fast... Wake up the next day to drop off my kids to school and my wife notice something leaking under the vehicle. I said to myself maybe its just the AC water. Come to find out its my Water pump and its leaking bad around the belt pulleys! So i call them and say that my car is leaking and explained that it didnt do this before they touch it. He's reply back was o it could be anything? I bring my car to get some fluid change and end up getting my water pump change ? Something smells fishy here and i dont ever wanna bring my Range here again ill rather bring it to a dealer Yes i said it "DEALER"..FIRST IMPRESSION WILL ALWAYS BE LAST! -5 star negative five star!!! read more
