I was going to go to one place I want to come back but this sandwich restaurant has popped up. So I decided to come here since I was interested with it specially with how they design this place. It's quite small when I got here. I like the way they design this place since artworks are good here. There was one employee who seems to be taking over the restaurant, and he is patient and nice. I took my time to scroll over the menu since I'm new here and also they have plenty of options. They come in different sizes ranging from 4-8 inches. They sound smaller since skinnier sandwiches less than that size are small. I got an 8-inch Reuben sandwich and wow...I was expecting it to be smaller, but this is probably because of the bread they choose and how kinda packed the meat is. Now, I see why 8-inch is considered the largest. About the Reuben sandwich, it's really good and meaty. The crunchiness of the bread is on point since it's toasted very well. Also, the way he cut the sandwich was uneven since the first half of the sandwich is slightly larger than the second half. Don't know why but I guess it's part of the process. They have other options including soups, salads, and Mac & cheese. I'm looking forward to trying those including other sandwiches. I had a very disappointing experience at West Coast Sourdough in Fremont. I ordered two meals totaling $52.60 (after using a coupon; the regular price would have been around $60). I also paid for extra cheese on my sandwich. After leaving the restaurant and driving to a meeting, I started eating and realized the extra cheese I paid for was missing. I called the restaurant to let them know about the mistake, expecting a simple apology or an offer to make it right. Instead, the person who identified himself as the owner argued with me, insisting that the extra cheese had been added. I politely explained that it was not on my sandwich, but he continued to debate me rather than listen to his customer. Eventually, I ended the call because the conversation was going nowhere. Mistakes happen, and I understand that. What I don't understand is the lack of customer service and the unwillingness to simply acknowledge the issue and resolve it. My advice to anyone ordering here is to check your order carefully before leaving the restaurant. This place is usually really squeaky clean because we are usually the first ones to come in the door once they open. Wish they opened earlier but that's what it is. This specific location is superb because the staff is compassionate understanding and great in prepping my Clam Chowder classic without the bread bowl. Keshab is one of the kindest most thoughtful cashier on their staff as well as the other gentleman that I didn't catch his name. They always are generous in giving us extra bread on the side when I order their yummy Clam Chowder which I feel is better than BOUDINS yes there I said. Today, we came in to pick up some more Clam Chowder and Keshab was there to greet us with a smile and kindness he even gave us a complimentary chocolate chip cookie for my daughter's bday which is in two days and he was thoughtful enough to make her smile and make our day! If you can't get down to California Sourdough on Brokaw, this is a good substitute. The bread is incredible, but the smaller sandwiches are a bit pricey, so order the largest size for the best value. Other people rave about the clam chowder, but I thought it was just fine. I've had both classic turkey sandwich and the seasonal lobster roll with bacon. I loved my turkey sandwich with all the fixings, but there was something off about the lobster salad in the lobster roll and I had to toss that sandwich. Staff is super friendly, but the Sandwiches can't take a bit of time so get there early in the lunch rush if you only have a short lunch break. read more

I love a good sourdough! Came for lunch today with my coworkers. I got the cracked pepper turkey sandwich, 4 inch. Also added pesto The sandwich was the perfect size! Didn't want to get too full from lunch especially going back to work so this did the job. The bread was super crunchy and toasted. Flavor of the pesto gave it a boost to flavor town. This was my first time at West Coast Sourdough and since I love sourdough bread I usually order it whenever I see it on a sandwich menu. I went with the buffalo chicken sandwich which normally comes with jalapeño coleslaw but I swapped that for lettuce, tomatoes, and onions instead. The sandwich also has pepper jack cheese and their house-made mayo. I ordered the 4 inch sandwich for about ten bucks. Honestly, I thought that was a bit pricey because the sandwich wasn't very full when it arrived and didn't really feel worth it. The service was kind of slow and it seemed like some of the staff were new or still learning the ropes. The main person kept giving directions and some of the workers looked a little lost so my food took a while to come out. The sandwich tasted good but nothing special. The buffalo sauce was decent and the chicken was okay but it just felt like a regular sandwich. I wouldn't order it again. What really stood out was the sourdough bread. I liked that it wasn't super dense. Some places have sourdough that's so heavy it's hard to bite into. This one was lighter and more airy. It wasn't as sour as I usually like though I wish it had a bit more tang. I also got the clam chowder. It was pretty thick and had a lot of potatoes. The potatoes were very uniform like they came from a bag which made it feel less fresh, like reheated instead of made from scratch. The flavor was okay but nothing memorable. They gave you two slices of sourdough with it for dipping which was nice. I probably won't get the chowder again but I would come back and try a different sandwich. Wow the sandwiches here are bomb! I'm not a huge sandwich fan but wanted to try this place out, me and my family love sourdough bread. Got here around 10:30a and it wasn't busy, you order at the register. The cashier was nice and friendly. Inside is small but enough seating if you want to eat here, they got cool tables with their logo. The cookies are displayed on the counter and they are huge and delicious! Soo soft! Ordered #13 Italian, #15 Turkey Cranberry, Chicken noodle soup, Tomato bisque soup, chocolate chip cookie, chips and soda. The turkey cranberry was soo good all that it comes with is paired well together and the turkey meat is thin sliced just the way I like it. They put a good amount of cranberry jam too. This was a really good sandwich, one of my favorites now! The soups were hot and delicious! Tomato bisque was definitely my favorite. Creamy and not too tangy! The chicken noodle comes with the big square noodles lots of flavor too. Soups come with a few slices of fresh sourdough bread. The Italian sandwich my husband loved, again everything pairs so good together. The flavors are all there, make sure to try with their house sauce! The sourdough bread is amazing! Ordered here a handful of times and never have issues. My order: Either a Turkey Sandwich or turkey/salami combo and a clam Chowder cup. Fresh ingredients. The sourdough is always soft! I've ordered an hour before closing and didnt feel like I was getting the leftovers of the day. The Sandwich is always well made and stays together while youre eating (iykyk). I love their clam Chowder. Its thick and creamy with good sized potatoes and clams (also comes with 2 slices of sourdough) Parking is shared but plentiful. Lots of seating and very clean inside. 4 chairs to every table. The only reason im not giving 5 stars is because their drink selection isn't great despite having a fridge and fountain soda. Pepsi/Starry is the selection vibe so do with that what you please. I spend about $20 for my order. 4" Sandwich, Chips, and Soup Cup. I was comparing everything to Boudin's and Panera's and think that this one's the winner!! We visited yesterday (Saturday) afternoon around 1:30pm and was able to easily find a spot in the parking lot. There were only a couple tables filled and no wait in line. Hubs and I decided to get a few things to share: -Cracked pepper turkey sandwich (6"): pretty well loaded and ingredients tasted fresh, sandwich buns were perfectly toasted -Clam chowder soup (cup): looooved that this came out piping hot, great as a dip for the sourdough pieces that came with it! -Southwest chicken salad (small): surprisingly huuuuge portion for being a small, topped with crispy tortilla chips + fresh avocado, jalapeño ranch dressing was on the side and had a nice kick to it -Sourdough bread: a few pieces came as a side to the soup and salad, the bread was nicely warmed and crunchy on the outside + soft on the inside YUM... 3.8 stars rounded to 4. Overall the food is good. Their claim to fame is obviously their sourdough bread and that's a winner. Their sourdough has a wonderful crunch when you first bite into it, that's not too hard where it tires your jaw out after a few bites. It also doesn't slice up the roof of your mouth like some banh mi baguettes do. The bread's center is dense with the right amount of chewy. And the sour note is delightfully front and center. I deducted points because their sandwiches are pretty skimpy on meat given their ike's-like prices (ike's stacks their meats). Other than that, tasty sandwiches here with good options to customize it into your own. Pesto garlic turkey was good. Imagine Ike's Bella with less turkey. BBQ brisket and cheddar was just okay; brisket should never be sliced so thin and the BBQ sauce is too sweet, overpowering everything in its path. This place is in front of Starbucks by the Audi dealership. We noticed it a few weeks ago and said we would try it since we love a good sourdough anything! The place is a good size, plenty of seating. There's also plenty of parking here. It's next to Starbucks and a FedEx store. We walked in and we're greeted by friendly employees. The place looks very clean and the employees were hustling. The food tasted great! My salad was fresh and delicious! My Hubby had a sourdough clam chowder bowl. He loved it! They are similar to other big sandwich shops where they have sandwiches and then you pick you fillings. Prices were reasonable in my opinion. I finally realized they were open thanks to the first person who reviewed here! We ordered the Mac and cheese, tomato bisque, chicken salad and bread. All of it was very tasty so I would come here again! Workers were very friendly and welcoming. Inside was clean. We came when it was raining and we noticed they didn't have a mat to wipe your feet so just be careful not to slip if it's raining. I just tapped my feet outside before stepping in. Newish franchised chain for this area. Lots of places now doing the sourdough sandwich concept, that I kinda don't know who's who. I know California Sourdough in San Jo has been around for a couple of decades and are an institution by now. This place is about on the same level as a Togo's but definitely above Subway. Seems like a family ran business, I like that even tho it is a franchise. Very nice and efficient service. There are about 8 tables inside and can get quite full quickly during the lunch hours. I like how they offer 3 sizes for sandwiches. Their smallest at 4" starts at $10 and is actually a decent sized meal. I know 4" sounds small but it is easily about 6-10 bites depending on your pie hole. And for a lunch outing, I found this to be just fine, without going into a food coma afterwards. Their 6" is now cut into 2s and it is what people would expect for a sandwich. I like splitting these as 2 small meals instead of one big one. I think the big draw here are their bread. Don't think they bake them completely but think they get these prebaked baguettes from the company's specs. But they will put them back in the oven here to finish them off, so it still gives off a super fresh product. Not as sour as most sourdoughs but legit texture. And definitely not as hard or chewy as Boudin where my jaws will hate me for putting them through that. Here it is substantial yet easy to chew. 4" Pastrami ($10/3.5*) This is warm where the sourdough baguette will have a nice warmth to it. The pastrami was just fine, typical sandwich shop level. Stacked nice and this has produce by default. If you just want meat and cheese, you'll have to specify. I liked the produce in this, made it more substantial. 6" Italian Combo ($12/4*) For the meats they use salami and pepperoni. Not as legit as Togos where they'll use Capicola too, but this is a decent base. Nice thin slices and with produce and sliced mozz does give off an Italian vibe. They use a commercial Italian dressing to douse it with so it has a slight sweetness to it. I think I just prefer an oil and vinegar douse, so this took me a few bites to get used to. This one I ate one half and the other half the next day at work. It was still good the next day, maybe even better as the juices and dressing was more aborbed into the bread. Clam Chowder (4*) I got this added to one of the sandwich outings where with a drink they'll add another $7 bucks or so. Good chowder, quite chunky and very creamy. Doesn't seem like from a can but I doubt they make it. But they do use a quality chowder. I also liked how it wasn't so thick that it was paste-y, perfect chowder consistency. Now I wanna try their other soups. I'm gonna incorporate them into my rotation. For this area I'd take this over Chic Fil A, Chipotle or Panera. Trust. read more

When i ordered the bbq brisket, i shouldn't have expected real bbq and thicker slices of meat like at bbq restaurants. But it was still tasty and filling. Everyone enjoyed their different flavored sandwiches. My 9yo girl could only finish half of the 6"sandwich. The clam chowder is excellent. January 2025 We wanted a sandwich and I heard positive reviews about the WCS in San Jose on Coleman. This location in Fremont is clean and the staff and service are friendly. The down side is the main reason--the sandwich. I picked the small turkey-cranberry sandwich, no substitutions at about $10. It was a tiny 4" sandwich(according to their menu), lettuce leaf, smidgen of cranberry sauce, one slice of turkey folded to fit in an extra large basket. I'm all for small businesses, but I'll most likely seek out a Togos/Subway or other sandwich place to give my $10 to and have a sandwich with more than one slice of turkey. read more

As a sourdough lover, I was pretty impressed that the sourdough bread here is legitimately sour. Proper sourdough isn't impossible to find at a store or restaurant, but it's rare to find a good one at a sandwich shop because most will use a milder version to cater to the majority of customers. If you've eaten at CA sourdough or freshly baked, you'd probably (definitely) be sorely disappointed eating here. If you've never eaten at CA sourdough/freshly baked, then you might find it decent. This should really be a 2 star for value alone. The sandwiches (no matter what size) are super tiny/dinky and they're stingy with both the bread and meat/fixings. It's not even a 3" diameter. I'm shocked they offer a 4" size (for $10+!!!) I'd pay twice as much for a CA sourdough sandwich. But in actuality they're similarly priced for twice the quality/grade and twice the amount of sandwich. This isn't an exaggeration.. I've never heard of this place before, so I went with some friends after church to check it out! The restaurant itself looks like a deli with very little seating, so it'd be best to get your food to-go. I ordered the Southwest Chicken Salad with a cup of Cream of Potato (Soup of the day). The food took around 10 minutes to come out and the staff were very friendly overall! Southwest Chicken Salad- The portion of the salad is great and they give you two sides of dressing. I ordered it with ranch on the side. The salad itself has a lot of toppings and I thought the variety was very refreshing compared to the typical caesar salad you'd usually find at a place like this. Cream of Potato- the cup is pretty small, but it's a thick and creamy soup so it was the perfect size! It comes with a side of sourdough pieces (which I was unaware of until I opened the bag). The soup was amazing! I loved the richness of the soup and thought it paired well with the bread. If you're ever there on a Sunday, I definitely recommend trying it out. read more

Finally!! So happy to see this location open now - I've been waiting ever since they added their coming soon sign. I think it's pretty good considering the price point for everything. I got a cup of soup, cup of mac, chips and an 8 in sandwich (biggest one) - with 15% tip and tax, everything came out to $37. I did ask for lettuce AND spring mix since I like lots of veggies but they only gave me spring mix. If you want a sandwich with lots of veggies, this is not the place, photo for reference. The meat : veggies ratio was totally off. The sandwich was light on the sauces which is better than heavy imo. Tomato bisque was fine - think typical soups at deli shops. Not bad nor special. I'd get it again if I was craving tomato bisque with my sandwich. Tastes similar to the creamy tomato bisque from Trader Joe's. Mac and cheese wasn't bad too - light and not heavy. It needed a little more flavor so I added a little salt and extra black pepper to amp it up. Much better afterwards. The place seemed very new and clean. Service was decent.
