This is the third time I have used these people. This is not and has not been ever pleasant. I care for and love all my pets. Each time I have come have I have been met with care and compassion. I had my pet cremated here, and I'm certain that everything was done as promised. Also, their site states that they will cremate your pet separately from others. What little compassion and professionalism this place has is horrifying. A few months back, I had gone out of town leaving my cat of 15 years with my fiance. While out of town, my cat had sudden medical issues and had to be put down. As if losing my first pet and best friend wasn't enough, I wasn't even there to say goodbye. My fiance had to handle the whole thing for me and comfort her through the entire process. I was so torn up, I couldn't decide whether to get her cremated or not so he decided to have it done just in case. Flash forward to a few months later after not hearing a peep from anyone regarding my cat's remains and never getting possession of the remains, I get a two page, very aggressive, rude and belittling letter from the Past-Due Accounts Manager, Sharon with paperwork to take my fiance to small claims court if we did not pay our balance within 30 days. The letter calls us irresponsible, rude and all sorts of other names along with stating that we never intended on paying and they are done begging us for money. It also has a small claims court print out from the website with scribble red handwriting with our names and the balance owed claiming they plan to take us to court if we don't pay by the date they wrote. They threatened to hire an investigator to follow us to find out where we work so they can garnish our wages. They threaten to sue us for the balance we owe, court costs, the investigator to follow us, any interest, etc. We never received a phone call, nor did we ever receive any invoice in the mail. I have worked in customer service and collections over many years in the past and this is absolutely not how you go about handling your business. Also, I currently work for a law firm and know that threatening letters with legal documents from the court and red pen scratches in them are not to be taken seriously. I believe this woman, along with her department try to use scare tactics in order to get people to pay their past due balances. Had they just given us a call, we would have paid it immediately. I think they believe people who cannot pay $158 bill also cannot afford proper legal representation and will just pay it in fear or being sued. They have turned a heartbreaking situation into one of the worst experiences of my life. I plan to file a formal complaint with the head of their department and also with the BBB. The balance is now paid and hopefully I'll actually be able to get my cat's remains from them, but am terrified from the way they've acted thus far that will be difficult. read more

Over the last 37 years, I have had 14 of my dogs cremated there and have always felt comfortable dealing with them in times of sadness. The last visit there was at the start of Christmas weekend, 2017, when I handed them the body of my beautiful 13-year-old Labrador Retriever. I'm pretty old and after I go, I will be cremated. My family will take all the cremated remains of my dogs and me, sail out in a boat and drop us into the ocean. Some people have said that's bizarre or awfully grim, but most of my friends think the idea is pretty neat. I'm eligible for burial in a veterans' cemetery, but somehow the idea of being placed in a neat, even row, with name, rank and service dates on my gravestone is not appealing. Although I have friends and relatives buried in very scenic veterans' cemeteries, I'd rather my remains be with those of my wonderful four-legged pals than among a bunch of other soldiers and sailors. The cremation itself was fine. I was disappointed that their order card did not mention they offered better urns than the tissue paper box the cremains standardly come in (despite other local crematories offering a nice wood box for the basic package), and the woman who answered the phone did not mention it when she asked me what services I wanted, nor did I receive any description of what it would look like. The reason this gets a 1 is because of their paw print service. When I first opened the ziplock bag it comes in (without a stand) and saw it, I thought there had to be a mix-up because it looks nothing like a cat paw print - but no, they really are that terrible. I did a better job than them with a live cat when I was 8 and they have the audacity to say it's so difficult and they try their best! For some reason they forced all my cat's claws out into the clay, to the point where multiple claws went straight through the entire mold! They even pushed his thumb claw in, and the front part of his paw pad clearly was shifted a bit as they pushed as there is a double impression of it. The claws shouldn't be present at all in cat's paw print and they obviously tried very hard to make sure the claws were the best part. As though I want to remember him by the part he only shows when mad or getting into trouble?? Plus there's a bunch of his fur stuck in it, and not from his paws!! (He's a long black hair with white paws, so it's pretty obvious.) They didn't even write his name in the mold with letter stamps like the pictures in their reviews show (as well as all their competitors' reviews). I can't understand why they are so inconsistent with their product, as some have the names, some don't, some have the thumb print, some don't, some look great, some look absolutely atrocious. If they're going to offer additional options like names and thumbs added, they should check which you want. All they said in response to their terrible product is they can refund me the $20. Now I am stuck with a paw print I can't stand to look at and no second chance for a decent one, and I have to buy an urn online and figure out how to transfer the cremains nicely out the PAINT CAN in the box. I will ask my vet to start offering the cards from other crematories, as the only reason I went with Cal Pet is it was the only place my vet had info for and the death was somewhat sudden. read more

No one even called me to ask me if I wanted to get a paw imprint of my doggie, when I called to make the payment over the phone, the man who took it, did not even say condolences to me, just hurry to get his money, but I also blame the clinic that made me choose them because they basically just made me sign papers for Cal pet crematory to get my dog. This is the saddest review I've had to write. Unfortunately my tortie Sugga crossed the rainbow bridge early yesterday morning. After holding vigil for her, I brought her to this marvelous place to send her off in style. I'm so grateful to the staff who treated us with the utmost respect and professionalism. I was a mess when I walked in and 2/3 of a mess when I left. They let me put my flowers and other keepsakes in with her and placed them around her gently and with reverence. That meant the world to me. The staff came out to talk to me, give me cold water and console me. Although this was a sad occasion, I had a stellar experience here. Not to mention they are very very affordable. I'm so happy that they were available to assist me and tend to my baby. Now she is interred in a fabulous Bastet-esque urn to stay with me. If and when the unfortunate time comes for you to say goodbye to your furry/scaly/feathery family member. I HIGHLY recommend them. They are a fantastic group of people. read more

I rarely write Yelp reviews, but wanted to review Cal Pet Crematory. I lost my 9 yr Golden Retriever last week and Cal Pet Crematory did the cremation. I felt that everybody who interacted with me (from initial phone calls, to staff on site) treated me and my dog with dignity, ensured that he would be cremated by himself, etc. etc. . I asked if I could have a final goodbye with my dog prior to cremation, and they allowed it and it was great closure. It's not easy and tears will flow. Flowers, photos and other items that were special were placed on his body that were cremated with him, and more importantly, I got to say my last words to him. I cared for my dog since he was 10 weeks, and ensured he left this world and was cremated with dignity. Cal Pet provided this. I returned a few hours later for his ashes his clay paw prints. I used Cal Pet one time prior, and had a similar good bye to that dog at their crematory and same positive experience with them. I know that 99 percent of people that cremate their pet say good bye to their pets at the vet and don't necessarily get as involved as I did, but for me it was important closure I'd recommend them to any pet owner considering cremation. read more

My beloved furbaby, Spike, died Sept. 25. Even though he was old, 14, it was unexpected. My vet, Morley Animal Hospital, recommended Cal Pet when I stated that I wanted to cremate Spike. The place was a little hard to find but very nice inside. The people who work there are wonderful.They gave me as much time as I needed, showed me the urn that was included in the price and didn't try to upsell me into something more expensive. Cal Pet is just wonderful!!!! Our beloved cocker spaniel Brittany, passed away 2 days ago. Cal Pet was suggested to us by friends who had experienced the same uncertainty in losing a pet as we were. We had our vet come to our home so that our little girl would feel safe and at peace. Shortly after, Cal Pet came to our home and picked her up. They assured us that they only do private-single cremations. We also requested a paw print. Because this request was extremely important to us, my husband called the same day to make sure this was on the order. The person at the desk said "absolutely", and even highlighted it to make sure. These people are just awesome. They are very friendly, kind, and understanding. They never made us feel rushed in any way. I am sorry to anyone who might have had any issue... I would absolutely say, "rare", and maybe human error. Thank God that Cal Pet was here for us during this difficult time. They made it easy and seamless.. and that is exactly what one needs. I had my sweet cat, Puma for 16+ years! She never gave me a day of grief in her long life. Losing a beloved friend is always a dreaded occurrence that inevitably takes place in ones life. I am so glad I was able to say my last farewell to Puma here. Days leading up to Puma making her way to Rainbow Bridge, I knew in my heart her time here on earth was coming to a close. I called Cal Pet Crematory and spoke to Linda who was very sympathetic and informative-making an unpleasant and stressful situation very bearable. Once Puma was gone, Cal Pet picked her up from Dr. Moon's (her Vet) office. Under a week later I was scheduled to have a private viewing where I was able to pet, kiss and say one final farewell to my dear girl before she became ashes & dust. Craig was really great-first thing he did was offer me tissues and his condolences, he was even cool enough to give me a little tour of the facility afterward (I have always had somewhat of a morbid fascination, and at one time in my life even contemplated becoming a funeral director). I never once felt pressured to buy any extras, never felt rushed or had anything short of a positive experience here. I feel the pricing is very reasonable and they offer many options for urns. I really hope I won't be seeing these guys for a long time, but I know when that time comes again-I will definitely be coming here and referring others as well. Unfortunately I have had to take four of my dogs in the last 15 years to Cal Pet. I could not ask for a nicer place. I go with my dog, deliver them to the crematorium and walk out to the ovens with the caretaker. It is the one last thing I can do after my pet is gone to show my love and respect for my very dear companion. I understand that people may want a "pretty" facility, however there are regulations as to where this type of business can be located. Perhaps Cal Pet was there before the nasty pick a part moved in. I do not care what is on the outside, it is what exists on the inside that matters. Inside this business are the most caring and loving people I have ever met. When I had to put down my dog and best friend Lucy after 14 years, I was sadly out of the country and had to rely on friends and my vet to help me through the process. My friend Mary took her to Cal Pet and they kept her there for me frozen for a month until I got back to town. I wasn't sure I wanted to see her like that, but wanted the option. When I returned, I did choose to see her and she looked great after 3 weeks of being held by them. I appreciated being able to have a final goodbye and give her a prayer scarf and favorite toy to be put with her. I now have her ashes on my dining room buffet in a beautiful urn they had on display there. I will forever have a hole in my heart but they at least made the process of letting her go a bit easier. They are difficult to find, so call for landmarks as the are behind a scrap yard. PROCEED WITH CAUTION: Don't get bitten! Losing a pet is more than losing a family member for me. It's more like losing my heart. I had to use Cal Pet not long ago after our beloved dog passed away. She had been ill for long time and our family nursed her and kept her happy and living a full life for five years longer than the best Vets in LA would give her. A lady who works there named Linda could not have been nicer. She was very caring and understanding. While she was trying to help us pick out an urn and phrase our engraving, a very rude man who worked there kept yelling at her trying to get her attention. He looked unstable and ridiculous in his unprofessional appearance (40 years old, unshaved, backwards baseball cap is never a good professional look on anyone I would trust or hire to work for me). He had some problem and found it necessary to make it everyone's problem. We could hear other people in the next room say "Craig just wait until she's finished" but he wouldn't have it. He had to interrupt. He was like a petulant seven year old demanding attention from his mommy! She excused herself and we saw them go outside together through a back door. When she came back, it was clear she was very embarrassed and apologized. It seemed that had a very big problem and my wife and I looked at each other. We really questioned if we could trust these people! My wife became very uncomfortable. If we hadn't already handed over our beloved lost little girl, we would have left. Linda assured us everything would be fine and had an older gentleman with gray hair finish helping us with our arrangements. He was probably the owner and was a class act. Sorry I cannot remember his name. As we were getting into the car to leave, "Craig" approached us in their god-awful parking lot. He extended his hand and said how sorry he was for our loss and that he "would take good care of our little one". My wife just got in the car. I shook his hand and said thank you. I figured it was best to be polite and not piss the guy off further, I needed to make sure we got our dog's ashes back! Two days later, we returned to pick up our lost little girl. The ashes were placed in the urn we picked out. In a velvet bag was an impression of a paw print. We did not request a paw print. Linda asked, but I declined as I did not think I could handle looking at it in our empty home. We were told there would be no charge for it. I thought it was a nice gesture, but did not care to look at it. The next day my wife placed the paw print impression in front of me. Our lost little girl was an 8 pound white snow ball. The paw print impression looked like it was from a 100 pound bear and it had black fur strands stuck in it. I know we should have been horrified, but all we could do was laugh! Last week we were visiting our old vet with our new puppy named Molly for a checkup and to introduce her. We told our CalPet Story to our vet staff family. They told us they've heard other questionable stories about CalPet and don't work with them as much anymore. They referred to "Creepy Craig" and just rolled their eyes. Apparently he is the owner's nephew!! We hope it will be many, many years before we need pet cremation services again. Molly has a long life ahead of her. One thing is for certain, we will not be using CalPet in the future. read more

Unfortunately, I've had to use this company twice in the past year. And by "unfortunate", I mean that I am devastated that I've lost 2 furry family members-not because of the company. This company is the only place I will use for any future needs. They are compassionate, friendly and patient. We lost our 20 year old kitty last June and opted for the complimentary urn. It's a beautiful paper mache box with flowers pressed into it, with a container that holds the cremains of her inside. Last month we lost a dear little dog, and I had decided to pick out a wooden box with frame and name plate. The timeframe provided to me was spot on and they delivered this to our veterinarian's office for pick up. They did the same with our cat. The box is beautiful, came wrapped so very carefully to prevent any damage during transport. When I had called Cal Pet to submit the urn order, the lady I spoke with was so nice -they really make you feel like a friend as opposed to a customer -especially during such a difficult time. If you do by chance leave your pet at the vet's office for pick up by Cal Pet, Cal Pet always makes sure to call you and let you know they've picked up your baby. I can't say enough nice things about these people! This time around, they even remembered that we lost our cat recently! Excellent service for something so hard to deal with, and so personable. What an awful review to write. Our beloved Dobie, Badonkadonk, unexpectedly passed away last Tuesday. Our vet handled everything for us and they called Cal Pets. I was so worried about him all week. After reading about Cal Pet and looking at their website my fears of my sweet boy being somewhere alone were calmed. We got Badonkadonk back today. He came home to us in a very nice cedar box with a lock and key. We also had them do a clay imprint of his paw. We just lost our dog on Tuesday. He was a big dog and was into his 15th year. He died on his bed as if he was just sleeping. We didn't know any place where we could take him to be cremated, so we looked for a place on the internet and found about Cal Pet. We decided to cremate him first and then bury his ashes in our back yard where he spent a lot of fun time with us. Cal Pet situates in a little odd place, but once you are there, you feel that your pet is in the good hands. The man (wish I remembered his name) carried him out of our truck like you would hold a sleeping child, with such care and compassion. He took time for us to say good bye and showed us where he would be cremated. Since the place was a bit of drive to get to and my husband and I both had to work next day, we chose their own personal delivery service (incredibly reasonable pricing) to have his ashes returned to us. They brought him back to us next morning and again the person delivered him was looking genuinely sad for us. We were very glad that we chose Cal Pet to take care of his final departure. We now feel that he is back with us in a happy spirit. We will always remember him. This is my first review on Yelp. I don't really do this. But I just wanted anyone who is searching for a right place to know that Cal Pet is a good choice. It may not be a fancy place, but you will know that your pet is cared for with the genuine compassion, that is the most important thing to the pet owners. We put down our dog, Teddy, after a year of battling his condition. We were just going to have the vet cremate him, but our daughter wanted an urn, so we went through Cal Pet. The person I spoke to was very nice. He seemed sincerely sorry for our loss and answered all my questions. We opted for a tiny "token" urn, with Teddy's name engraved. The rest of the ashes came in a can inside a very pretty box that we have in front of our TV, which was where Teddy used to lay. I have had 6 rabbits and my 150# golden retriever cremated at Cal Pet. They are caring, professional and respectful. They picked my pets up from my vet or I could drop them off. They always call me to let me know they have my pet- which makes me feel better right off. Then they call when their ashes are ready to be picked up. Which is usually in a day or two. Great communication! When I had to cremate my dog, they quoted me a price when he arrived. When I picked him up, the price was actually less. Who else would do that? my pet died almost 2 weeks ago and there has been no news regarding my pet after that. I wish they had asked that we leave a check along with my pet at the vets office. Instead 5 days later i get an invoice in the mail for $120 then it takes another 5 days for them to cash it. In the meantime i am not sure if my pet has been cremated or not. This is terrible. I wish they had better service indicating how long it takes for the animal to be cremated. It looks like a very poorly run organization. I wish i had never used this service. A month ago we had to put our dog down. She left our house with the vet and was delivered here. We were sent an invoice which we promptly paid. NOTE: the personal check we sent had our name & our contact information on it. a month passes and it's like, what's going on, we should have received the ashes by now. we were told they would come in the mail. finally, i call this place up. they cannot find my dog's information. finally, after telling the (nice) woman on the phone our vet's name, was she able to find out what had happened to our dogs remains. they had it under the WRONG NAME and the WRONG PHONE NUMBER. (like i said, we sent them a check with our INFO on it!). so they ship the ashes back to the vet's office. Thank goodness. But for a month, our dog's ashes were sitting in storage, not in our home because someone didn't use their brain to figure this thing out. The lady on the phone told me that they couldn't read the handwriting. WELL, that's something they should have figured out right away, NOT JUST LET PEOPLE WAIT and WONDER WHAT HAPPENED TO THEIR DOGS REMAINS!!!! IF YOU CAN'T READ THE HANDWRITING THEN ASK THE PERSON WHO WROTE IT WHAT IT SAYS! seriously. is it so hard to do your job correctly?! The only reason this place gets two stars is because we were indeed able to get the ashes back home safely, after a month and a half. read more

I never thought they would be so amazing. My cat died and we wanted to cremate him. I asked my local pet hospital and they recommended CalPet. They are family owned and have been in business since 1947 and do their own cremations. I went in and they offered to do it right away, but I wanted to witness the cremation and needed another night to mourn before I had it done. I left my cat with them and they took great care of him until the next morning. They don't charge to witness the cremation or for a last viewing. The cremation cost $110 for cats and that includes a simple box. Plan to purchase something a little nicer. I choose a stained box with a photo frame for $50. However, I think they have cedar boxes that start around 15-20 dollars. I was nervous going anywhere else because I didn't trust waiting at least week for someone, who didn't do the cremations, to take care of my cat. I wanted him to be at peace and not be thrown into a dumpster to save a buck. Calpet took care of me and I will always take my pets there from now on, They met everyone of my expectations and actually care. read more
