I've used royal pet for my first dog about a decade ago. Royal pet had picked him up from the vet's office and they delivered his ashes to us 2-3 weeks later. The ashes came in a beautiful box wrapped in cloth and came with a paw print and dedication. Today, Brian picked up our other dog from our house, and he was so professional and sweet. He hugged my husband after he placed Richie in the container he had brought for transport. We look forward to receiving his ashes back in a few weeks with a paw print and dedication as well. Jenny was great on the phone as well, super sweet during the intake. $295 cost for cremation and pick up from our place. With a dedication and paw print, and special box. He is a small dog 9lbs. I will use them for any future pet. read more

This is in response to the owner Jenny in regards to my original review and for the public so that they can be more informed: Jenny basically runs a 3rd party delivery service for pet haven. Even the name "royal pet mortuary" is deceptive because it is not a mortuary. All she does is take your phone calls and then arranges delivery to a crematorium for her extra fee. The real crematorium had their own delivery drivers typically for free. What Jenny does is add her fee and tell you that "she will take care of everything" in reality it is because of these 3rd party drivers that sometimes mistakes are made and the wrong pet ashes are returned among many other errors ( see pet haven reviews) You will be much better off contacting a real crematorium directly and making arrangements with them. Unfortunately there are many services like Jenny's that pretend to be "compassionate cremation services" and are simply delivery drivers and they charge a huge fee that isn't necessary on top of trying to sell you other keepsakes that the real crematoriums offer for much less. Also, there is no shortage of real crematoriums around Los Angeles and other areas. I am writing all this because I love my animal and hate the idea that there are people who take advantage of grieving pet parents. Her listed address is not a real location and there is zero regulation in this industry so if she made a mistake with your pet there would be almost no recourse. Especially is you don't even know where she is. Please be careful and do your research. There are many other predatory "services" like hers who will fake sympathy on the phone with you so that they can take your money. I highly recommend you call a real crematorium and ask for what is called a "witness cremation" to ensure that you get your own pets ashes back. They cost a bit more but well worth the peace of mind and you will be saving money by not having someone else drive the pet there and deliver ashes back to you which can take weeks or months instead of one day. I understand there may be people who don't want to deal with any arrangements for your deceased pet because of the inconvenience but your pet deserves better. I also recommend you read the reviews because sone of these places lack the ethics and have no compassion because they are huge corporations driven by profits only. I did NOT "hang up on you" I just said goodbye because there was nothing left to discuss; you gave me no options until AFTER I posted on Yelp. Your business description and service area map on Yelp BOTH say Pasadena, otherwise I would have had nothing to copy and post here. And for you to play the victim and suggest I unjustly personally attacked you when I simply reported the facts is very dishonest, as is implying I did something wrong by reporting the facts of our call and your Yelp information as it appears ON Yelp. It also makes no sense to imply I had something personal against you since you should know how often I have used Royal Pet. Yes, given no options by you, I went to Yelp because I was very upset about your lack of care for my cat who had just died. It seems you also went immediately to Yelp, but for purely business reasons. I'll say it where other 5-star reviews have said before, Royal Pet Mortuary is funeral home of amazing and humane caliber run by great and understanding people. Her company is hands-on, which is important at a time when losing a cherished pet makes us all feel a little vulnerable. After working out my wishes and making payment, my beloved cat was picked up from my vet and promptly delivered to the crematorium. I requested individual cremation and my requests were honored to the letter. My cat's cremations were hand- delivered to my home by a man who was as warm and kind as Jenny. I highly recommend this company and will always use them. BTW, I do not recommend using any company your vet recommends because you do not have control of the details of the process. Your vet will try to insist you use their service as they probably get a cut of the action. Royal Pet Mortuary gave us peace of mind during a very difficult time. The negative Yelp reviews from over a decade ago are genuinely surprising and could not be further from our experience. RPM came at the recommendation of our vet. They were warm, courteous and empathetic. They were not pushy and asked only the information they required. Jenny gave us a timeline for the process and let us know that she and John were working with a large number of families at that point but that they would make every effort to stay within that timeframe. The ultimately did. The best recommendation I could give is by example. We have a 21-year-old cat and when the time comes, we will not hesitate to reach out to Royal Pet Mortuary again. read more

When our family dog passed away, we wanted to honor our family member as an equal to any other human family member. Someone had mentioned, at the time, to "just call animal control", which never sat well with me. Would that be a viable option for a human family member? I think not. At the time, there was no such thing as Yelp, but we were fortunate to have found John's services through a Google search and he seemed to offer exactly the kind of "preparations" we wanted for our beloved dog. Our dog's passing from old age happened suddenly on a Sunday morning and we weren't sure whether John would answer the phone, but he DID! And he paid us a visit the same afternoon. He came across as someone who loved animals and understood what we were going through. Very compassionate, as other reviews on Yelp have attested to. He gave us a timeline of when the cremation service would take place, that it would be an individual cremation similar to humans where our dog would not be mass-cremated with other pets (so that each pet is treated as an individual and respected life), and John brought back our dog's ashes in a unique urn that we could keep with us forever. Basically, Royal Pet Mortuary is a human caliber funeral home for pets run by good people. We will continue to rely on Royal Pet Mortuary for our future pets, as well. Judging by the other reviews, seems we're not the only ones with high praise for Royal Pet Mortuary. A friend recommended them when our cat Orson passed suddenly. Since we weren't able to make advanced arrangements, and were in a state of shock, it was all we could do just to make the phone call. Fortunately, that's all that was needed. Royal Pet responded immediately, and John was at our house within an hour to pick up Orson. We discussed the available services and opted to use aquamation, an alternative to traditional cremation that uses water; but what made Royal Pet so great is how they handled all the details of the after-care. Orson was returned to us in a beautiful urn, with a certificate, a clay paw print, and other thoughtful touches. As traumatic as losing a family member is, the whole experience was so much more bearable because of the respect Royal Pet showed us and Orson. I can't imagine having to do the job they do on a daily basis. We really appreciate the degree of sympathy and professionalism they showed our family at a vey difficult time. When our pet rabbit passed away, we knew that we wanted to have him cremated individually (as opposed to a group cremation), and Royal Pet Mortuary was highly recommended to us by the animal hospital. We made the call to RPM in the parking lot of the hospital since there isn't much else to do when you've just lost your furry loved one and feel completely lost and bewildered with grief. But the owner of RPM knew just what we were going through and had all the right words to say. We found his sympathy, knowledge, and professionalism very comforting. He drove out from his office in Culver City to where we were in West L.A. within 15 minutes, talked to us about our options, and then went in to the hospital to take our rabbit with him. I felt that everything was done very respectfully. RPM provides all kinds of options and services with a range of prices. The owner asked us if we wanted a fur clipping and paw print, though we opted out of that. We pretty much wanted a basic, individual cremation with the remains placed in a simple yet pretty box. We were charged $200, which included someone from his company driving out from Culver City to us in Burbank, about two weeks later. Losing a pet is an awful experience but unfortunately, it's an experience most pet guardians have to go through at one point or another. Our little girl, Polli, was given a few days to live after being diagnosed with FIP which stemmed from her having feline leukemia. She is greatly loved by my boyfriend, friends and I and we wanted to give her the absolute best during her final journey. I called a few different pet mortuaries but was struck with how caring Jenny was on the phone. After talking to her for a little while about Polli, I decided to have Royal Pet perform Polli's cremation. Jenny is wonderful! She listens to you, is responsive and extremely compassionate. While I was arranging Polli's services, I couldn't find my pocket book. I told Jenny I'd call the next day, the day of Polli's scheduled euthanasia and pick up, with my card information. She told me to take that day to care for Polli and to call them a few days after with payment info. Instead of being focused on payment, she encouraged me to spend time with my girl and not worry about the details until after. I truly appreciate this kind gesture. The day of, John arrived at our home as scheduled. The vet was running a little late but John made no complaints and patiently waited while we said our goodbyes and helped Polli leave her broken body. When we were ready, he came in and carefully retrieved her, letting us wrap her in a shirt she loved to sleep on. It was so hard to say goodbye and I watched him drive away until I lost sight of his truck. Two weeks went by and I hadn't heard from RPM yet. I sent them an email and once again, Jenny promptly addressed my concerns. Polli passed away during a holiday weekend and the mortuary didn't perform cremations during the week so her cremation took a little longer. However, they had just received Polli's ashes and they were bringing them home on Monday. Sure enough, John brought our girl home Monday morning. With her ashes came two lovely poems, a packaged paw print and a certificate of cremation. They also brought back the shirt we had wrapped her in. RPM made a terrible experience much more bearable with their caring and compassionate services. The only aspect I wish was different was that we couldn't bring Polli to the mortuary ourselves. I felt terrible handing her over to someone else and wish I could have taken her to her final destination. However, that's just me being overly attached to Polli and RPM's excellent services greatly outweigh this one particularity. read more

I was watching my daughters beloved dog Peony when I realized that she started passing I called several pet mortuaries but when I spoke to Jenny I knew that she was the one that would handle my situation with the best of her abilities! Losing our beautiful bulldog, Lily, has been one of the hardest things for our entire family to go through. It was very unexpected but we're comforted by the fact that she never suffered or got sick. She died peacefully in her sleep after a day of fun playing in her kiddie pool. Royal Pet Mortuary was a godsend through it all. They answered their phone at 11:30pm at night -- on a Saturday! They walked us through what we needed to do before they can come by the very next day to pick up our Lily. They were very gentle and understanding and compassionate and informative all at the same time. We knew then that we called the right people. We just received our Lily's ashes yesterday and it brought back a lot of the emotions of losing her all over again. We are in the process of planting a lily patch in her favorite part of the garden so she can be amongst the flowers that she loved. When our sweet dog died a few months ago we were devastated. We had to put him to sleep, and the animal hospital gave us three different brochures of pet cremation places. I liked the fact that Royal Pet Mortuary is located close to us, and even though it was after hours, Jenny returned my call within 30 min. She was very warm, consoling, and professional, and did not pressure us to use their services. She explained every option we would have, quoted me their fees, and gave me space and time to think (which was very difficult to do, as we were in shock from the death of our furry baby) John picked up our beloved pet from the animal hospital a few days later, after having called us to make sure of the name and description. It took less than 2 weeks for us to receive the ashes, as well as a paw print and certificate in a little container. John delivered those directly to our house. Jenny is Wonderful! I called when completely distraught. I needed immediate help and Jenny arranged Everything quickly. And for a lower price than everyone else I has spoken to that day. She quickly arranged a home vet euthanasia visit for the next day (lowest price I was told out of a few other vets with this service), which was seamlessly coordinated with her for the cremation. She made something extremely stressful, very smooth. Something I was and am grateful for. The inclusive package and extreme ease of the process (pick up from home or the vet transports) is also the best price I saw (I saw another with a 'deal' but didn't include paw print and had to transport one self.. Not worth it). The visiting vet angel was so sweet and gentle... My darling kitty transitioned peacefully. Everything was handled smoothly and gently.. We really appreciated the love and care they took with our sweet cat Kali. The container with the tuff of hair was a nice touch and the paw print was nicely done. UPDATE: I've taken too long to update... Ok, they get the full five stars now after completing the service and my lil girl is satisfied and is very happy with the lil cloth covered treasure chest-like urn she received Brutis' remains. She still sleeps with it once in awhile as it is a great comfort knowing her pet is safe with her for now. When she is ok, we will bury him in the back yard. Again, John and Jenny were awesome and the entire service was worth every penny of my $200! Other places charged a bit cheaper if I took him myself, or if I went with a "plastic container"... after you add up the a la carte services they ended up being more than $200!!! And seriously WTH has the time to take care of these things? NOT ME! Thanks Jenny & John! I am giving them four stars for now because a family pup died this morning and Jenny was very VERY understanding, and we haven't had the service completed yet. Although I am not an animal lover like others - this pup's loss was very hard on my 9 yr old lil' girl and was very distraught when she found Brutis crawled into the basement and died overnight alone. She was the one who found him so parents know how sad she was. I was at work and Jenny was very patient with me and making the arrangements for "John" to pick up Brutis Troy, in spite of putting her on hold a few times as I took other calls. My lil one called me to tell me that John "picked up Brutis, mommy, and he was nice and said he'd take good care of him and he even gave me some of Brutis' hair mommy." I personally would have just probably called the City to pick him up, but my lil' girl needed and wanted closure and said she wanted his ashes to be able to "pray for him". I think their $200 fee is worth my lil' one's peace of mind. $200 for p/up, cremation, and the urn, and return him to us. Can't beat that. I will update when we get Brutis back and more than likely give them the full 5 stars! I chose RPM because they seemed compassionate, professional, they only do private cremations for $290 and they offered a scheduled private cremation for an additional $75 which I found to be a fair exchange. I spent a lot of time on the phone asking questions and getting clear about what was to happen with my pet and I was given every assurance that his body would be handled with care and reverence and with my wishes in mind. I requested that he be cremated with his special blanket. They said it was against the rules and bad for the environment. I understood so I asked that he stay wrapped up in his blanket the entire time. I arranged with my vet that they ALSO do this. I felt nervous that they wouldn't carry out these wishes or that I had not made myself perfectly clear, so I asked my friend to call and make perfectly, double sure that they would keep him wrapped up in his blanket. When I arrived an hour early this morning, I drove around a bit until someone arrived. 30 minutes before my appointment a man walked up to my car with a large black trashbag full of a very large something. My heart skipped a beat before I knew it couldn't be my baby in there. Whew! Then he says it's his blanket and that he wanted to make sure I got it back. I felt sad and stunned to have it back so soon. Where was my dog? Why wasn't he wrapped up? I was in a daze. When they called me in for the viewing, my dog had been very well preserved. No complaints about that. He was laying on some other blanket...just some random blanket with a southwest print on it belonging to who knows? I tried to tell myself that it didn't matter. He was gone anyway? I had my friend call Royal Pet and she talked to the exact same woman, Stephanie and asked her if my dog had stayed wrapped up in the blanket. She said, "Yes". She told her how I felt and how it wasn't a pleasant experience to have that change of plan and her story was that they really wanted to make sure I got the blanket back. I was paying to be with my dog in his blanket so I think it was pretty certain I could take the blanket at the appropriate time but she did not seem to be able to grasp this simple concept. For some reason, Stephanie called me personally even though my friend had already conveyed her assurances. I repeated my grief about the way things were handled and she did not apologize or behave accountably in any way. She did say that she was sorry that those wishes were not conveyed to "us". She repeated that twice. I replied, "They most certainly were and I am sorry that you can not own that." She called back and left a message that I feel I will not be able to listen to today as this is the hardest thing I've ever had to do and I was doing it all alone. The blanket belonged to a person who could not be present and it was supposed to be the way I saw him--in his blanket. I knew it would be the easiest way to see him and be okay. I thought I was done with these people but it only got worse from there. When I went for pick up, the lady at the front desk at Pet Haven Cemetery (who I will be dealing with directly in the future if necessary), apologized for the inconvenience. SHE'D done nothing wrong. I was paying RPM to handle my arrangements not her but thanked her anyway. At that moment, Neal, the general manager from Royal called and asked to speak to me. Thinking he may make things better, I took the phone and he began barking out that my vet never told them to keep my dog wrapped in the blanket (thereby revealing that they NEVER DID! Such liars!) I told him it wasn't my vet's responsibility to tell them anything! I told him that two of us had conveyed our wishes to Stephanie and he only said, "Well, you never talked to me!" I said, "I don't even know you. Why are you making this awful? You messed up and you don't even say you're sorry? I don't want to talk about this anymore." He said, "Well, I have a problem. I'm not releasing his ashes until you have paid me." I was shocked. I'd already patiently read my credit card over and over to someone from RPM last week when I made these arrangements when my dog was still alive! I told him I never said I wouldn't pay and that I was going to the car to get my credit card. I called my friend to help me figure out if the transaction had already gone through. She couldn't believe this guy was doing this especially since the first thing I told the man who handed me the trash bag with the blanket inside was, "Do you need my credit card?" Anyway, I get inside & they say, "Neal is on the phone and he apologizes. It's all cleared up. You're paid up. You can have your dog's ashes." Well, thank you RPM for being moronic, incapable, untrustworthy and unaccountable so I could appreciate my dog even more! It is only common sense that someone who wanted her dog WRAPPED up in her blanket would actually expect that he be WRAPPED up in her blanket til the end and not someone else's. read more

She gracefully walked me through the process of what to expect. She extended her condolences for the loss of our family dog, Patches, and was so kind as to accommodate all of our needs. John, who delivered Patches, was gentle and compassionate, understanding that this is a difficult time for my family and I. The clay paw print was beautifully wrapped with a purple ribbon, professionally engraved with Patches' name on the back. The death certificate, created with beautiful hand-written calligraphy, came with a beautiful poem. This is the second time I have used RPM services. The first was when my little pug Olive passed. My friend actually handled everything. Olive was returned to me in a pretty little beige box with a tassel. There was also a little bag of full of her hair. Along with this was a round, ceramic paw print with her name carved on the back. It was so special and such a beautiful thing to have in memory of her. Just recently my friend lost her poodle. I made the call to RPM and Jenny helped me through it. She was extremely sensitive, kind, sympathetic and caring. Her voice was warm and sincere. She helped with all the arrangements and everything happened the way it was supposed to. I just got Jaggers ashes back for my friend. Jenny called ahead and let me know she would be delivering them. They were timely and kind. Everything was perfect. Cranberry was a cat who thought she was a person. When she didn't make it, it was heart-breaking. She went so suddenly. We decided to have her cremated. Eventually, when her sister Latifa also goes, we'll have her cremated, too. Then we can spread their ashes somewhere peaceful so they can go to their final resting place together. The Royal Pet Mortuary was prompt, professional, and compassionate. They retrieved Cranny's remains from the pet hospital and handled all the arrangements. In 2012 our beloved pitbull passed away and his body was put in the trusting hands of Royal Pet Mortuary. They did a fantastic job as it was the most painful time of our lives. Even in death we wrapped his body in a comfy blanket and watched the driver carefully pick him up with the utmost respect transferring him to the delivery vehicle. After that we knew we chose the right place. When we got back his ashes, he arrived in a beautiful tassled box, with clay paw print, certificate of cremation, and Rainbow Bridge poem. Our boy meant the world to us and these small details truly made the difference. His pawprint, certificate, poem, now hangs framed above his ashes in our home where our dog should be. I just wanted to say a few nice things about a very sad subject. When your furry friend dies (Cat, Dog whatever) in my case a beloved cat, Tybalt. you feel so shattered and as if there is no one who can understand how deeply you feel this loss..."it's only a act right?" "it's not like it was a person" But, sometimes pets mean more to us than the people we know. So, When after many years the time came to have him put down, I was devastated and at a loss as to how to proceed. The people at Royal Pet could not have been more, kind, compassionate and helpful. Starting with the first phone call the woman was gentle and genuinely concerned with my grief and making this unpleasant experience as easy as possible. The man who came (at night) to my house to pick up Tybalt, I believe his name was John, was also very warm, compassionate and considerate of my feelings, allowing me to spend a few extra minutes with my beloved Kitty. As sad as all that week was for me, the people I dealt with at Royal Pet...Jennifer, John, & Mary Lou (I understand that in the past few months Royal Pet has gone through some management/personnel changes and the people I dealt are part of the new Regime) were marvelously, kind, compassionate and efficient at their jobs.
