I agree 100% with the more recent post of Cal Pet Crematory. They are under new ownership and they are horrible!!!!!!!!! We also have used Cal Pet for our 3 fur babies; in the past. I am now having to put another baby to rest and when I called, a RUDE and emotionless lady answered the telephone and acted as if I was bothering her; when I spoke of the price increase, she said that these new owners own most of the crematories and I won't find a cheaper price (but I did and they care and these people don't own the crematory in Calabash). However, she told me they are new owners so that explains it. In the past, Cal Pet staff have always been caring and respectful and always remembered us as past customers. These new owners don't care; they are in it for the money. I have a small dog and they want to charge me $185. I have had the same breed of animals and I have paid 90.00 for one and 115.00 for the other and now they are asking for 185.00 and they are rude! They are taking advantage of people during their grief, which should be a crime in itself. No, Thank you. I have used Cal Pets for both my of my fur babies. They are kind, compassionate and actually care about you and your pet. My recently I discovered that vets charge over $300 for service where as cal pet is considerably less. I will say my Snooky who is being cremated today would have been thrown in with several other animals if I moved forward with my vet. Thankfully, I have family who knows better and we picked her up and drive her to the Cal Pet ourselves. They are going to cremate her alone and even say a prayer for her prior to service. Thank you so much to the kind and compassionate staff at Cal Pet - especially Will! This past Tuesday we brought our little Biscuit in. I had called the day before and explained to Will that we preferred to bring Biscuit's remains home the same day, and he was very accommodating. While we were there waiting outside (due to Covid), we observed several other clients bringing in or picking up their beloved pets as well. And every single staff member was respectful, courteous and professional. And, speaking of waiting outside, they have thoughtfully set up a couple of different shaded sitting areas, since current pandemic prevents clients from waiting inside. We did not feel rushed at all as we spent our last few moments saying goodbye. We opted for the optional paw print, and again, Will was sure to show us the print before trimming and baking it. He treated us like family. Biscuit is not the first pet I've taken to Cal-Pet. I brought my kitty, Norma Jean, here 25 years ago and was treated with kindness, sympathy, and compassion. Cal-Pet is an institution (family owned, I believe) - they've been operating since 1947. After having to make the difficult decision of saying goodbye to our dog Strider, my husband and I were both devastated. Cal Pet made the process of private cremation simple and stress free. We are so glad that Cal Pet is a preferred vendor at our vet. They picked up Strider at the vet office and made sure to call to let me know that he was with them and that his ashes would be ready within a 10 days or so. I had to take my best friend here last Tuesday. This was my second time comIng here in the past six years. The place is hidden from the main roadway, but is well maintained and very clean. Today was the viewing of our beloved cat Polo at cal pet crematory. We went through the gates and right away the stench was unbearable. They had left our pet outside for probably since they picked his body from the vet last week. Although they denied but Maggots were coming out his nose and eyes and that doesn't happen overnight. This review is WAYYYY overdo! I unfortunately lost my baby girl a couple years ago..I had heard of Cal Pets prior and callled them first thing the next morning. The woman I spoke to on the phone was so pleasant, I explained that I required their services right away (Im surprised she even understood a word I said through my sobbing) I asked if there was anyway that I could have her cremated that same day- that I could not leave my baby and return days later! She proceeded to tell me "come right away and they would accomodate my request". Once I arrived at Cal Pet, that same sweet woman I spoke to on the phone greeted me- I swear I almost fell into her arms... I was so distraught! She was so kind, so warm she proceeded to explained the process to me in laymans terms, showed me the options that were available to place my baby in once cremated (she helped me pick out a beautiful wooden box, that came with a brass name plate that they send out to get engraved, and they give you a clay "pawprint" as a keepsake) I feel horriable that I do not remember her name. I do remember the gentelman that actually does the cremations- his name was Gabriel (I immedietly thought of the Angel Gabriel!) He too was amazing, so gentle with my baby- took me outside to say my final goodbye to her under an arch they have, It was special... He let me walk with him to the crematorium where he then placed my lil girl. I waited for about 45 minutes....they handed me my lil love in a sealed cardboard box.I know same day service is not normal procesdures here, however I can not begin to express how thankful I am that they accomodated me!! At such a difficult time for me this place- the amazing people that work there were a god send!! They were very sweet and helpful, but my friend gave me some insight that if they forget to do your dogs paw print for the clay plate then they just use some random dogs paw print!! (She knew a guy that worked there) I was really hoping it would be very uncommon but upon looking at my dogs print I compared it to my other dog who was similar in size and the paw print was much bigger than my dog. They did run out of the small urn I requested and gave me a medium instead, so I'm assuming someone used a "medium dogs print" to go along with my dogs remains. My dog was a very small 10 lb dog who couldn't possibly have that same print This is so upsetting to see. I would have rather them tell me they made a mistake and refund me my $25 rather than try to cover it up with some random dogs print. These pets mean the world to some of us and it's so insulting for them to think that this would go unnoticed. Check your dogs prints!!!!! First, Cal Pet complains to Yelp and reports any negative comments left about them, so bear that in mind. My previous comments have been removed. I used to use CalPet a few years ago either through my vet's office when a pet was euthanized and then when I moved to the SFV, I would drive there directly. I found the staff generally dismissive and smarmy. I acknowledge those are broad-stroke comments, but that was my face-to-face experience with them. They're kind, efficient, communicative, and most importantly respectful of your deceased pet. Some folks on here complain about the amount of time it can take to get their pets ashes back, but all this means is that the company is committed to ensuring that each pet is cremated individually and with care. As an animal rescue I have used CalPet for 10 years and paid them tens of thousands of dollars. Although their office is in the middle of a junk yard they were always great and a wonderful family run business. That family does not run the business anymore. They have raised their rates twice in the last year, most of the staff that was there has left and the woman on the front desk is rude and arrogant. Most recently they attempted to charge me without telling me their rates were raised, when I pointed out no one had told me in advance the woman on the phone lied and said the rates went up "months ago". When I tried to explain that I had just paid $120 not $150 the week before she interrupted me to try and tell me otherwise. It took getting the manager involved. So, sad to see such a great business devolve to overpriced, rude and incompetent. read more

All I can say is that every single person at CalPet knew that we were in a very sad place and treated us very gingerly when they came and picked up Barbie and showed their respects so gracefully. Cal Pets lost a pet and then their manager Shane proceeded to blame my vet and scream at me. Don't let them touch your pet. Shane let the pet get lost because he failed to acknowledge when it was sent down. He didn't respond to me for a month and by then he couldn't find my pet's body, so he tried to blame my vet. read more
