And figuring out the "right time" was agonizing and I remember feeling so alone. A bit disappointed with this place. The idea of having your pet/family member euthanized at home is great, but the execution needs improvement. In a nutshell 1. Tardiness should be communicated so the family can prepare when to be emotionally ready 2. Details of the service should be discussed and finalized BEFORE the day of the euthanization, not on the day of. 3. After euthanization, the vet should leave the room for the family to say their last goodbyes alone. It was finally time to have my gma's dog daughter euthanized due to lung cancer. My gma made an appointment for a Sunday at 3pm. The family gathered at 2pm to spend her final moments with her. On our way to her place, she called to let us know the doctor will be late and will be there at 3:30pm, which is fine. We get to spend more time with Lexa. As 3:30pm gets closer, everyone is realizing the time is coming. 3:40pm comes and the vet has not arrived yet. 3:50pm comes around and we decided to call. After all, she did call to mention that she was going to be late. Maybe she couldn't find the house. We called Hearts and Halo but was greeted with an answering machine. I left a message and asked what the vet's eta was. The vet, MJ, finally arrives at around 4pm with her assistant. She needs to understand, which I am surprised that she didn't, that when you are saying goodbye to your beloved family member, emotions are high and playing the waiting game bring anxiety because now you don't know the timing of things and you can't be emotionally prepared. Anyway, MJ comes in and starts presenting our options on method of euthanization, any options/mementos we would like (paw print, returned ashes, etc.) Honestly, I am surprised all this was not covered during the appointment call. As mentioned before, emotions are high and making these types of decisions shouldn't be made the day of. After about 15 minutes of this, it was finally time so we put Lexa on her bed and MJ injected a relaxing agent between her shoulder blades. She said it was similar to morphine. After about 10 minutes, she fell asleep. At this time, it just so happens that Hearts and Halo calls me. Perfect timing. I won't hold this against them since what are they supposed to do? But the timing was impeccable. After not picking up the call, they texted my phone. Maybe they should've just done that first. After this, she shaved part of her paw and injected the final injection and Lexa passed within a minute. We were able to say our last goodbyes to Lexa with no time restriction. However, a word of advice to Hearts and Halos, that this would be a great time to leave the room and let us have our own personal time with Lexa alone. MJ stayed with us the whole time. I know we could've mentioned this to her, but during such an emotional time, I think it is better if she just left the room on her own. When we were done, MJ and her assistant picked up Lexa gently with a fabric carrier. Lexa didn't come until 2.5 weeks later. Our grandma chose to pick her up instead of having her shipped back home. Hearts and Halos promised us she would be back in two weeks, so take that for what it's worth. Overall, it was a comfortable experience. Hearts and Halos is a veterinarian company that offers home pet euthanasia services. My husband and I decided to use them to help us put our beloved little girl, Muffin, down last month. We had the pleasure of Dr. Susan Chao come out to our home on Friday, March 20. We had a 9 am appointment (the first one of the day) and she arrived a little before. She had called me about 15 minutes prior to let me know that she would be arriving within 15 minutes. When she arrived, my husband and I greeted her and had her walk to our backyard, as this was the place I had wanted for our little girl because she loved being in the backyard to sunbathe. Dr. Chao was wonderful at guiding us through the process, explaining every step of the way and allowing us to take our time to say goodbye to Muffin. She also allowed us to give Muffin treats during the process (Muffin's last meal was a chicken nugget from Burger King and pureed chicken that Dr. Chao brought, which Muffin really did enjoy eating). Dr. Chao also did cut a piece of Muffin's fur for us to keep and placed it in a small plastic box, which she put in a small mesh bag and gave it to us as a keepsake. Muffin passed away on March 20, 9:31 am. Dr. Chao gave us some time to spend with Muffin right after and just walked towards the side of the house so that we could have privacy. Afterwards, she placed Muffin in a basket and then we walked with her towards the front of the home so that she could take Muffin with her to eventually be cremated. About two weeks later, I contacted Hearts and Halos to ask if Muffin's ashes were ready for us to pick up (please note that the company can also mail your pet's ashes to you, but we just preferred to pick it up in person). I had a hard time getting ahold of them via telephone, so I emailed the company and was able to arrange for a pickup time. I was told via email that someone was supposed to contact us that day that I had emailed them about Muffin's ashes though... This past Thursday, my husband and I went to Gardena to pick up Muffin's ashes (please note that Hearts and Halos office is now in transition to moving to Hungtinton Beach). When we arrived, an employee came out and gave us a small gift bag, that held her ashes, seeds to plant in her memory and also a small brochure regarding aftercare and additional resources for the grieving process. I do like the box that her ashes came in and also I love the small wooden heart with her name engraved on it and a small halo right above her name. The total cost for these services is $840 (you can pay via check, cash or credit card). You can also have additional items, such as an urn (which cost $60) or your pet's paw print, that will cost extra. If you do not wish to have your pet's ashes back, the cost would go down to $675, in which your pet will be part of a communal process to preserve their ashes and then will be scattered in the company's memory garden. Just as a price comparison, when we had to put down our other 2 dogs at the vet (both of our other dogs were of an emergent case and so we would not have been able to plan for their euthanasian earlier and so we would not have been able to utilize these home euthanasia services even if we had known about them at the time), at minimum, it would have cost $455 if we had made an appointment and had this service done during the day. However, both times we had to rush our dogs to the vet were during after hours and without an appointment, so the cost was around $560, which also did include their ashes. So, these home pet euthanasia services can cost an additional $100- $300 more but we felt it was worth the cost. We did not have to rush and deal with the stress and anxiety of the car ride from our home to the vet and also sit in the waiting room while they prep our dog and then say goodbye to them in the vet's office (where both of our dogs really hated going to the vet). The ability to allow Muffin to be in the comfort of her own home and to have foods that she enjoyed during the process was worth it for us. I highly recommend home pet euthanasia at home if you can afford it. I like to think that this was the much better choice for Muffin and hope that she was happy with her chicken treats right before she left us, keeping her in good spirits than to be stressed and anxious if we had chosen to bring her to the veterinarian instead. Last month, my husband and I had to make the heartbreaking decision to say goodbye to our fur-child, Chewy. He had been aging gracefully, but suddenly he just stopped living the life he loved - he stopped eating, stopped playing, and stopped being himself. When we called Hearts and Halos, they were able to come the very same day. As painful as the decision was - and it was not one we made lightly - we knew it was the right time. Both the doctor and her assistant (I sincerely apologize for forgetting their names - it was an incredibly emotional day) were truly exceptional. Their kindness, compassion, sincerity, and gentleness were beyond anything we could have hoped for. They felt like part of the family from the moment they arrived. They got to know a little about Princess and her past. They reassured us of Princess' comfort being prioritized, answered any questions, and were in no rush at all. During our final moments with Princess while she was awake, there was absolutely no rush when it came to our words or expressing our grief. Having to say goodbye to my Charlie was SO hard. There was a delay due to urn shipment and I got my dog (coco) after three weeks. I ended up getting the urn that can include your dog photo in the frame. I wish we are able to add quotes or the day your dog passed but it's still nice having their name. I give a four out of five because I saw the frame has three scratches on it. It's never a good experience when you have to say goodbye to your beloved pet, but this team made it the best experience I think was possible to have. This review is a couple of months late, but I haven't been able to bring myself to write it before now. After my vet said it was, "time to say goodbye" to my senior cat going through renal failure and pancreatitis after various not-so-successful other medical treatments, I thought about bringing him back into the vets office one more time, and I just couldn't do it. I knew I wanted him to be at home. I knew a couple other people who had in-home pet euthanasia services (out of California) who swore by how much better it was than taking their fur-baby into the vet for that last visit, and made the choice to email Hearts and Halos. I requested the service when I knew it was time. Everyone says you'll know... and I knew my fur-baby wasn't well before, but this time, he was crying in the night, telling me it was time for me to let him go. I did not want him to suffer any more. Hearts and Halos was responsive and understanding of my plight. They know our pets are suffering and the choice we make to contact them is not an easy one. Every time I reached out to them throughout this process, whether by phone or email, I was contacted by someone with compassion and empathy (Thank you, Autumn, Megan, and Kayleigh). Dr. Sarah came out to my home for our appointment to help my Puddy Cat cross the rainbow bridge. She gave us plenty of time to say our final goodbyes, allowed me to hold him throughout, and treated him with great dignity and respect as she bundled him up for them to leave. She was so gentle, patient, and kind throughout the process, and I cannot begin to comprehend the kind of strength she has to do this. I thank her from the bottom of my heart for supporting our family that day. Two weeks later, we were able to pick up Puddy's ashes and engraved paw prints. From initial contact to final pickup, everyone was compassionate and kind, understanding of the loss and sorrow of their clientele, and overall a pleasure to work with. If you're reading this yelp page, chances are you're thinking you might be in need of a service like this, so you don't need me to tell you how heartbreaking it is. I've had to put cats down in the past, and the process of taking them to the vet when they're already in distress and pain is one of the worst parts. Instead of putting my cat Donna through that this time, I wanted her to pass in comfort at home. I called around a few places, and Hearts and Halos had both a good price and great availability so I chose them; $675 for the visit plus communal cremation, and I was able to schedule for a Sunday. They did a great job. The doctor who came (I apologize for not remembering her name) was calm and compassionate, handled our kitty gently, and allowed us as much space and time to grieve as we needed before we finally let her go. I'm sure it's a very difficult job to deal with such things every day, but I'm very glad this type of service exists. Shout out to the team if you're reading this, you're doing good work bringing comfort to families. read more

it's difficult to write this review as hearts & halos were there on one of the worst days of my life to date. my senior cat charlie fell ill and had a very quick decline, and h&h came highly recommended by some friends who had been in similar positions. i gave them a call on a monday morning and the woman on the phone was so kind, helpful, and warm. she made a very difficult phone call a little easier. i think her name was shannon, but either way, she was absolutely wonderful and calm and caring. dr denise and her partner (tom i believe, a lovely man) came to my house a few days later for the appointment and they could not have been more accommodating, friendly, and compassionate. she explained everything softly up front, gave us options, and some info on what to expect. being able to send charlie back to the stars in his home where he felt safe and loved was very important to myself and his cat dad, and i'm grateful we could make that happen. we held him and snuggled him, and once it was done, dr denise and her partner explained the next steps before leaving. it was very peaceful. i selected charlie's urn and picked him up this past sunday, and again, a really wonderful experience full of care and attention to detail. thank you all so much for all you do, it's been a gift. read more

Dr Katie and Nan were wonderful. So sweet and compassionate. They took their time with us, making suggestions but letting us do what we wanted to do to make our Nala's last moments comfortable and memorable. Dr Katie explained everything and even asked if we wanted to have her cut some of her hair for us to keep. We were so distraught but they were so understanding and sympathetic. They didn't rush anything and let us be as much a part of the process as possible. Highly recommend HAH. read more
