some of the best tacos I've had in the sac area in forever. the flour tortillas in particular have a great chew which is sometimes missing in other places. the items seem very thought out - often at taco trucks you choose a protein and I've found that a lot of places will pair the same tortilla, onions, and garnishes and just switch out the meat. the lack of finesse in this method usually results in overly fatty tacos if you choose the wrong protein and places the onus of learning the "good" things to order on the menu with the customer. west coast taco bar has no such issue and you can tell the tortilla type, garnishes, and combinations are considered ahead of time with the protein. this makes each bite intentional and well balanced. the brisket taco despite being a fattier meat was paired with a thicker-than-the-four-taco-deal tortilla to compensate for the contents. the fat was not overly chewy and had melted in places and charred in others in a way that was perfectly cooked and I don't even like cubed meat. the three and four taco deal in this economy is a rarity and the tacos offered aren't just basic tacos - the chicken adobada tasted impressively like pork adobada I've had at other places which is saying something considering how many places I've seen get chicken wrong. the inside of the instrument is cozy without being overly pretentious like some taco places that offer abnormal combinations (looking at you nixtaco) - the place knows what it does and that is serve delicious tacos. service is attentive and kind. Was super hungry while waiting and had about 3 rounds of chips and 3 different salsas before my taco order was ready. I wasn't a fan of the chips texture. For the tacos, the portions were good and the tacos looked aesthetic. Small, clean, and inviting. Menus are digital. Service was fast and friendly. I had a flight of 4 tacos for $15 and ordered: Classic Asada, Carnitas, Dirty Diana, Sactown Fire. They don't have tacos Al Pastor which is interesting but they do have Birria tacos and they were really good. Although they aren't crunchy queso birria tacos with consomé, this specific taco sold as "Dirty Diana" (award winning) is loaded with a 'slow braised' beef birria full of flavor, topped with Monterey Jack, tomatillo salsa, pickled red onion and cilantro. Their tortilla is also lightly dipped in a red sauce they advertise as Sac Town Fire Mole. It was definitely a fire taco. Sactown Fire (Award winning) This is a flavorful shrimp taco where the shrimp is cooked in garlic to perfection. Not undercooked not overcooked. Soft, moist, yummy. I love shrimp tacos but this one was better because it was topped with a lime cilantro, chipotle mayo sauce and cotija cheese. Same mole tortilla as with the Dirty Diana. Classic Asada- was not a fan. Not much to the meat, a bit dry. It would have done much better with grilled onions but they add simple chopped cilantro and raw onion. I added lime for some flavor and to add moistness. Carnitas- same. Shredded and dry carnitas with not much flavor. You end up relying on salsa and other toppings for flavor and texture. I wouldn't get the last two again but would go back, despite not living in Elk Grove, for the first two alone! They were that good. My husband and step son also really loved the birria tacos and said they would also go back for those. Horchata- Last and certainly not least, we also really liked the Horchata. It tends to be too sweet at other restaurants but this one has a very balanced flavor. I did notice they pump coconut syrup in your cup so if you don't like coconut you might not like it. We did as it was very subtle. The horchata even tasted like arroz con leche and we bought two to go. **Drinks are not self serve and not refillable. Overall, there's a reason they are in business. The two mains are a clear hit, if you are into either of those meats (shrimp and birria-beef). If you are expecting to have a really good asada taco.. this isn't your spot. This is one of my favorite places to get Mexican food within elk Grove. Always friendly service and the food is of quality. They have a program where you can accumulate points so that you can get certain offers and discounts on food. You can order online on their website or you can order on one of the various sites to order online ahead. They do have a kiosk which you can order from. Incredible service, I made a mistake and ordered a burrito on the kiosk (Bitchin Cali) which sounded amazing but didn't realize it had shrimp, I have an allergy, when I recognized the mistake--they were apologetic, even though it wasn't their mistake. They remade the burrito I intended to order despite my intention to pay--they insisted it was free of charge. In today's world that level of service is unheard of and really appreciated. Unfortunately, she was disappointed in some of their tacos, the carnitas ended up crisp and dry and their 6-hr brisket was more like burnt ends but not moist. The other tacos were fine, but their fish taco did stand out = crisp light and flavorful! And the street corn was delicious, messy but delicious. I was excited to try West Coast Taco Bar, but honestly my experience was a little disappointing. It was extremely busy and they only had one lady handling takeout orders and helping customers inside. I honestly felt bad for her because she was trying her best, but the wait was very long. She did let me know ahead of time that the food would take a while, which I appreciated. The place could have been cleaner, and when I got my food I didn't receive salsa or anything on the side, so I had to go back up and ask while she was already overwhelmed. They also only gave two very tiny lemon pieces, which wasn't enough. The tacos were a little pricey for the taste. Stood there almost 5 mins without anyone saying anything (in that time another two people came up behind me & waited). Someone inside the truck (I'm assuming the same person that took my order, Anthony) says back, "We're busy right now, just give us a moment." No sorry for the wait. This also reminded me to bring up when they catered my work event back in April at a senior living community in Rocklin. Had the pleasure of getting to know West Taco Bar's menu at a recent Yelp event. I had upcoming business in Elk Grove the following week and quickly decided we'd be having lunch. West Coast Taco Bar is small restaurant which lends to an intimate dining experience, but they are big in hospitality, great food and kindness. Chris made my tacos at the Yelp event, so it was nice to see a familiar face in a new to me restaurant. We were also greeted by Michael who was on chips and Jose who was working the grill. We ordered carne asada, chicken adobada and Dirty Diana. All the tacos are delicious, however Dirty Diana is the show stopper. The portions are generous and the watermelon frescas were perrrfection. Almost forgot to mention the chips n salsa. I like heat but for those who may not, please be mindful that the salsa has a nice kick. Hidden gem! You can't really see this place from the street nor when in the shopping plaza at Smart and Final. But it's well worth your trip if you're in need of a good taco fix. The service was welcoming and friendly. We got there when they first opened and it was refreshing to see a smile as we walked in. I got the four street tacos. I got the Classic Asada. It was really small pieces of meat and some gristle. Not my favorite for sure. Nest the Harissa chicken. It was ok , the flavor was a little off. I got the Korean BBQ which was an upcharge of .75 cents. It tasted good and was moist. Lastly I got the Dirty Diana which was the beef birra. It was the best one . Full of flavor and yummy. I popped into the West Coast taco bar since I was in Elk Grove, and had read all of the great reviews! My experience was far different than some of the other reviews. I'm not sure if it's because there were four of us at the time, or have things changed that much in the last year?! We ordered a variety of different meats in our tacos, and then scrambled to find seating for the four of us. The inside of the restaurant is incredibly small and you're not meant to get comfortable per se. The description of all of the tacos was absolutely mouthwatering, and we were excited for what we thought was going to be delicious eats. We all opted for the three tacos special, I'm pretty much ended up, ordering the same combination. The Asada looked tasty, but the meat was very chewy and wasn't very seasoned. The chicken ( pollo) was very dry, and I ended up adding a bunch of salsa just to be able to enjoy it. The Korean BBQ was the most enjoyable, and I enjoyed it without the tortilla because the combination of the two just were not working. Everyone else ended up doing the same thing as well. My group of 5 (4 adults and a kid) were able to combine two tables inside, but you might have more difficulty if going during a busy time. You can order directly with a person or using a kiosk to the side of the line. I got the 4 taco plate, chips, salsa and guac. The guac was delicious and a good portion for the regular size. The four tacos I got: Korean BBQ (this might have been my favorite, the flavors mixed with the flour tortilla were great), Dirty Diana (this is a classic birria taco, complete with the oily shell), Classic Asada (this was good, and make traditional flavor), and Pollo a la Brasa (delicious and tender grilled chicken). I have been wanting to try West Coast Taco Bar for soooooo long and I'm glad I finally did! This is a small restaurant, let's say mini restaurant, but there were still table top and bar top seating along with outdoor patio seating (shaded for the most part). Anyway, thank you for a wonderful first time experience! :) I ordered the Dirty Diana, 3 tacos, being nominated as an Award Winner I could not pass this up. It did not disappoint! The meat was succulent and tender. Every bite was deliciously fresh and filling. I do wish it had some acidity to cut through that kind of oily taste with birria. Nonetheless, STILL BOMB! To wash this down I got their coconut horchata. By far my most favorite place to order horchata. Best believe I will return frequently just for the drink! I was hesitant yet the coconut is subtle and horchata itself is thirst quenching. The watermelon drink I got to sample was very refreshing and tasted as if I bit into one. Loved both of these!
