I have been using these guys for over 20 years. Scott always gives me the stink eye (even though I am super nice to him), but I thought they were good guys. Bennet Street is being worked on, so I went to Sunrise Auto on the Lynnway. Oh boy! It was like when I changed dentists. She found cavities every visit, but once I found an HONEST one, I haven't had a cavity in 30 years! I told Lenny about the problem, and he fixed it while I waited 30 minutes! West Lynn would have made me drop off my car for days, and would have made me pay for a replacement I didn't need. I'm sure this $50 fix would have cost me at least $150 at West Lynn Auto. I highly recommend West Lynn. I came in with no appointment and was greeted right away. I told them the problem i was having and with no hesitation they took care of it right there and then. No waiting. It was a simple job, just needed to replace a license plate but all the screws and lining had rotted out. These Bozos couldnt fix their way out of a paper bag. I ended up bringing it to NH to a "true" hot rod restoration place who was the nicest people u will ever meet. Forget these boneheads. I live 9 mins from this shop. I stopped by here one morning before work, because my vehicle (2012 VW CC 2.0T) would not run. It wouldn't accelerate past 15mph. While here, i spoke with an older gentleman, thin with a gray beard (don't recall his name). I explained to him the symptoms of my car issue, he came outside and just "starred" at my vehicle, and did not offer to further examine it or even ask any questions to offer any possible solution or suggestions. He then said "I'll be completely honest with you, we don't work with VW vehicles here".. I asked how, it's a common manufacturer. He then mentioned that they don't work on VW cars or any European car in particular. He then kindly asked me to try out a different shop. I then went to a different shop down the street. Turns out my spark plugs had to be changed (simple as that). Now, I looked up the website of this auto repair shop, and they STATE: that they work on foreign and domestic cars. He did not serve me, a customer in urgent need, and did not bother to even check my vehicle. Horrible customer service and untruthful to their website advertisement/bio. Now, whether it's true or not that they did not know how to repair VW/European vehicles, this is a mechanic shop, thus, this excuse is unacceptable. If so, this lack of mechanical knowledge SHOULD be stated in their website. Which is not. I don't want to assume any particular reason for him not wanting to serve me, but I would advice to those with Volkswagen cars or "European vehicles" as he quoted, do NOT come here for your mechanical needs. One of the local shops down the street from here replaced my spark plugs (4 of them) for a reasonable price and exceptional customer service. I will not return to this mechanic shop nor will recommend it to others. Feel free to ask me any questions as necessary. read more

My car broke down with an engine problem, my neighbour later diagnosed it as an engine bearing after a brief drive. These guys did a full diagnostic on the whole car and then recommended a $220 hot oil change after which they told me there was something wrong with the engine but they could not say what. Later my son went in with a damaged muffler system and was told he needed $2000 in muffler repairs. My son said he would buy the parts if they would install it. They agreed but would have to charge $145 and hour labor instead if their posted rate. Later my son had it inspected by another garage and they determined that one joint had been cracked but the truck was completely drivable and he is driving it now without incident. Beware. read more

They were completely upfront about the labor costs before touching my vehicle. That is to say, they called me while inspecting to let me know that in order to do X they would need to do Y, and asked me if they could continue on. My car is running beautifully Scottie, one of the owners was nice to chat with and ran through each detail about cost, what they were going to do on the car before proceeding. Scott and Louis are one of the few last honest mechanics (almost extinct). Bought a used car and they gave me such a thorough inspection that I got a big fat "R!" This forced the dealer to make the necessary repairs, for which I am thankful. I would definitely recommend them. I might even drive all the way from Boston for regular check-ups. WLAS has been taking care of my cars for around 15 years. They don't just work on my car, they refer me to other places for tires and body work. Today, I got a price of $750 for body work, then I went to Scott, who sent me to vEo Autobody, who gave me a substantially lower price, and Scott tells me he is satisfied with Alfredo's work (duh, he recommended him, so...) The nice guys at West Lynn Auto Service SAVED MY LIFE a couple weeks ago! I was driving from Boston up to Salem, and my car was overheating. I thought it was a serious radiator leak, or a hose or something, so I panicked. I called and went there just before they closed on a Saturday. Turns out I just didn't put my radiator cap back on tight enough when I added some antifreeze a few days earlier. They could have easily told me I needed a whole new radiator and totally ripped me off; but it was really nice to see someone be honest for a change. They added about a gallon of antifreeze, put my cap on properly, charged me only ten bucks, and sent me on my way. My radiator has been great ever since, and I have these nice guys to thank! read more

Needed an emissions light checked and not only did Scott fit me in without having an appointment to take a look at it, but recommended having it looked at by the dealer because it might still be under warranty. Most mechanics would offer to fix it right away to get the business, but it is so appreciated to have a legit mechanic out there who not only treated me with respect from the first moment, but offered alternatives without trying to rip me off! Totally disagree. My mother was having trouble with thermostat getting stuck in her car causing car to run a little hot but then one day while I was out of town . She was driving and the car overheated. She had it towed to this place without me knowing about it. They not only replaced the thermostat they said she needed a water pump on top of it. 580.00 later. I've used WLAS in the past for my inspection sticker only & have never encountered a problem. However, this year, my fiance took my car somewhere else to have it inspected and it failed due to an O2 sensor issue. WLAS was one of the listed shops that could make the repairs and I called them to see about making a Saturday appointment. I was told it wasn't necessary, that I just needed to get there right when they open @ 8:00 am. I called them again at the beginning of last week to confirm this was still true and the guy who answered the call said yes, just come @ 8:00. I called Friday just to make sure everything was on the up and up and I was told, first, that they don't do that kind of work. When I pushed back to tell him that I had already called a few times to make sure my car could be services, then he said that his brother does that work, not him. I don't care who does the work and when. What I care about is that due to their very poor communication, I lost 2 additional days to repair my car. I will not be visiting WLAS for any of my auto needs again. read more

I found these guys while negotiating at a sketchy used car dealer around the corner. They looked the car over for me on the spot for $40. Most places charge over $100 for a pre-sale inspection, and while they probably weren't as thorough as the $100 joints, they did find some obvious problems I had overlooked like cracked fog lights, which I got the dealer to fix. If you're looking for an auto mechanic shop you can truly rely on, then West Lynn Auto is not the place for you. I brought my vehicle in approximately 2 months ago to get the brakes done (E-Brake too). The following day the mechanic called to inform me that it was ready for pick up. Over $500 later I was ready to head home. I got maybe 2 miles away from the shop before multiple warning signs lit up on my dashboard including the following: Traction Control, E-Brake, ABS, and Check Engine lights. I immediately turned the car around and drove straight back to the shop. When I arrived back at West Lynn Auto, they greeted me with excuse after excuse and claimed that it must have been a separate underlying issue (even though none of the lights were on when I initially dropped the vehicle off). I then explained to them that my wife is pregnant and that we had a doctor's appointment to attend that afternoon and luckily they gave us an older model vehicle from their lot to use so that we did not miss the appointment. A few hours later they called us and stated that they "solved the problem" with my vehicle and said we could come pick it up again. We then returned to the shop where two separate mechanics met with us, both claiming that the work they did on the vehicle today did not cause this issue. They then said that they "fixed it" and said "we won't charge you" as if they were doing us a favor. My wife and I then jumped in the car and took off assuming that everything was fine again. Over the next few weeks, each individual warning light would flash on and off at various times when the car was either parked or in drive. We then brought the vehicle in to a different shop to get an oil change and to have it inspected to determine what the problem is. The new shop then suggested that we take it back to West Lynn Auto and stated that, "They definitely screwed something up when they did the brakes." The lights then continued to come on and off for another couple of weeks and even forced us to pull over on the highway several times (putting my wife & I in dangerous situations on numerous occasions.) The vehicle is now in the shop once again which is going to cost us hundreds of dollars extra, all stemming from an issue that West Lynn Auto directly caused. I wanted to believe that the mechanics that work there are genuinely good people, but their customer service approach and attitude towards my wife and I in this situation was poor to say the least. When a person brings their vehicle to any auto mechanic, they have an expectation that their hard-earned money will be used to safely resolve any current issues with their car. Sadly, West Lynn Auto took zero responsibility for their mistakes. They lied directly to me and my 6-month pregnant wife and put both of our safety in jeopardy. I will never spend another dime at this auto mechanic shop and I encourage anybody reading this to take their business elsewhere. If your family's safety comes first, then West Lynn Auto is not the right option for you. read more

Got an inspection here on a well maintained car. A very small item was out on the car so he failed it. Ok, no problem I thought I will get the item fixed for some pocket change. However, I needed to get that inspection sticker that day so I asked him how much if he did it; his reply was 10x as much and it literally took him all of 2 minutes to fix the problem.
