We live a block away and need to come here MUCH more. Food was fantastic last night. I had the braised short rib and potato gnocchi and my husband had the carbonara. Both were fabulous. A perfect portion served in a tall bowl and beautifully presented. Strong, delicious flavors and fresh ingredients. My toddler ordered Mac & Cheese, which was not on the kids menu, but they made a perfect kids meal by serving it in a sectioned plate with the mac in the middle, broccoli on one side and cheese shreds in the other (someone in the kitchen really "gets" toddlers). She squealed with joy when she saw the plate. Love the ambiance here. Can't believe they are not busier on week nights. Possibly because of the prices being on the higher end for pub entrees. I use to really like this place. I live just a few miles away and use to go there a couple of times a month. The restaurant has a table like a bar where you can see the cooks making you dinner. I am less abt to go there as after the first year the food seems less and less tasty as it once was. I am not sur eif they changed cooks or not but it has dropped a level. That being said they still serve good pizzas, good burgers,and good specials, but definitely not as great as it once was. It also seemed like we never needed a reservation. The service is always knowledgeable and friendly and timely and quick to ask if you need another before you're empty. read more

Really great!! My boyfriend I have been wanted to get here for a bit now and it just never was the right time. But we went for Valentine's Day. And we couldn't have been more pleased!! We were greeted by two nice hosts, the place was pretty busy, but not too crowded. We had made a reservation through Open Table. We got a nice table in the dining room and our server Mary was very nice. We decided to go with the Valentine's Menu. We both had salads, which were a good size and really delicious. I got the "Surf and Turf" grill and my boyfriend go Lamb. Both were great. I had my filet mignon medium-rare and it came out perfect, it melted in your mouth. I mean, it was right up there with Ruth's Chris! It was good!! We also had a few drinks, I had mojitos and my boyfriend had a few different cocktails, he likes to try different drinks when out. The dessert was sooo rich and delicious, I couldn't even eat it all, even though I totally wanted too!! Peanut butter pie....there was some chocolate in it as well. Just all around great! I ate w/ my boyfriend in a two top in the bar area as we needed a place not in JP for a change. Waitstaff was so-so maybe because we were not in the main dining room? Food selections were fine - although each dish seemed to add one extra ingredient that made it a bit less appealing (panko and Parmesan crust on a delicate piece of sole w/ fried capers - the parm overwhelmed the fish - or glazed nuts on a salad rather than just plain nuts?) I had the hanger steak salad which was fine. Wine list is best I have seen in a pub type restaurant and they have good deals price wise . Also they have whole and half plates which is great if you are not supper hungry or want to share dishes. It does get load due to tile floor - it seems to also be a pick up spot for local 20-30 somethings. I would go again. read more

West does a fantastic job. I've eaten here a few more times since my last review and their food is incredibly consistent and delicious. The atmosphere is classy yet laid back. I love their Christmas decorations. My family held my bridal shower here last weekend and everything went incredibly well. I got so many compliments on the downstairs venue being quiet and welcoming and the food was excellent. My mom said Eleanor was a pleasure to work with and made the planning of the event super easy. Their banquet menu is very affordable especially considering the quality of the food. I would absolutely have another event here. read more

Went here with a few friends for dinner. I ordered the Southwest Chicken Salad. It was ok but the description listed avocado and there was none in my salad!!! For a $12 salad, I expect my order to be complete! My friend ordered chicken quesadillas and was not impressed. They were made with dark chicken meat...I guess they were trying to cheapen out a bit. I just moved to West Roxbury. The girlfriend and I came here one night since it's right down the street from our house. It was fairly busy with no room in the dinning area, however we found a nice table in the bar. The waitress was great. Attentive, upbeat, and bubbly. She really made the whole experience great. The one down side was they were out of all the specials when we got there. Other than that, everything was great. I got the pear and Gorgonzola salad. It was made perfectly with a great balance of ingredients. My girlfriend got the salmon. I tasted it, and wanted to eat it all. It was prepared absolutely perfect. The deserts are great. They are all home made fresh the same day. We will definitely become regulars at this restaurant! read more

Solid craft beer selection, nice ambience and good food make this a safe choice for a nice meal and night out. Place is sectioned off into two areas; one is more of a bar area and younger, the other side is more for families but somehow it actually works well. I really like this place. I live just up the street, and am there about once a month or so. The sit down dinners are always great, and the late night bar menu is always tasty. I take my mom here when she comes to visit. Good beers on tap, and really great battered green beans, but be sure to order an extra dish of sauce, because what they give you just is no where near enough. Getting a seat next to the fireplace in the winter is delightfully comfortable. Good pizzas, good burgers, sweet potato fries, good fish dishes, good bolognese, good duck specials, but definitely get the green beans (with xtra sauce). There is a dining room, and a bar section with very ample seating in both. We've never needed a reservation. The service is always knowledgeable and friendly and timely and quick to ask if you need another before you're empty. I hear the brunches are great on the weekends, but haven't yet stumbled that far - I like my own creations much better than any restaurant can provide. If they cleaned up the Chipotle Chicken sandwich a bit, like find a better bread to serve it on, I would try it again. read more

LOVED this place. I won a gift certificate for a wine pairing event to West on Centre. So I made a date night out of it ;) Got there, wine pairing event was delayed, I think they were still prepping tables, no big deal, worth the wait. We got in and it was family style seating so my guy and I sat with another young couple, good thing we did because some of the older couples were wine enthusiasts and we are not. hahaha ANYWAY, It was a 5 course dinner with wine pairings for each plate. Wine was amazing, chef was amazing. I tried shrimp and actually enjoyed it, and I've never liked shrimp! I tried (pork) ribs even though I am an anti pork person (for my own reasons, not religious) and loved those too. My guy loved the sesame chicken wings that they served and I think those were probably my favorite too! Everything was so yummy and we plan to return because we both absolutely loved the food! I love this place. I moved to the W Roxbury/Rosi area about a year ago, this this place remains my standard go-to for good food and a decent drink. Every person I've ever taken asks to go back whenever they're in town. The only problem? If you're not into food that stops your heart, you may not be as big of a fan. I go to West (almost) every Sunday for trivia. It's a much older crowd, which I like, so they understand to be quiet during the questions and not yell out! Even though it's generally the same teams every week, it did take a while for the waitress and trivia jockey to recognize that we came often, which is disappointing. But it's a great place for trivia. The menu is iffy at best for me. It's definitely a classy place and the menu, not to mention the prices, reflect that, but if you are coming to trivia and want bar food, you are out of luck. The steak and onion pizza (with mashed potatoes) is heavenly, but greasy. The club sandwich, and I LOVE a good club sandwich, leaves a little something to be desired. The white bread is too thick/rough and makes the sandwich hard to eat along with the very dry turkey. The West Bacon burger is good, but the Brioche Roll is also dry, making it hard to swallow. This week's drink special was a SweeTini: tea infused vodka, lemonade, and lemoncello (and possibly some other things I've forgotten). In short, amazing. Heavenly sweet alchohol. Almost worth the $10 they charged me for it. My only wish is that, on a Sunday night, they might have "bar food specials" to go with the trivia. read more

My friend and I went here on a slow, Monday night around 9:30. There were a lot of people in the lounge area and only one other party in the dining area. The service was amazing. Our waitress was very helpful, friendly, and attentive. The food was even more amazing! We got the grilled asparagus salad with hanger steak, grilled n.y. strip, and the key lime tart for dessert. We both finished our meals with relish. The hanger steak was done just well enough and was a perfect compliment to the crisp asparagus and fresh greens. The n.y. strip, along with the croquettes, was out of this world. The key lime tart, with the caramel syrup, was also delicious. West continues to be a favorite neighborhood place to eat. read more

Had a late lunch at West on Centre on Monday (10.11). By far the coldest Stella Artois I've ever had - fantastic. I ordered the chipotle chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries. Both were excellent. My wife had a cheese burger and traditional fries. The burger was a little overcooked but tasted good. The atmosphere was decent and the bartender attentive. We will certainly go back for another lunch or a dinner at some point. read more

Still my favorite place for brunch on the weekends. Great atmosphere, amazing staff and excellent specials. Often go for biscuits and gravy or the special hash. Beer selection is always an adventure. Occassionally they have super hard to find IPAs but even the normal handles (about a dozen) are solid. Kid and family friendly. Best to go early because brunch draws a crowd. read more

@AlexTambascio: The burger at @WestOnCentre was outstanding. Bacon, cheddar, thin o-rings, tom, lettuce, pickles and fries. Seriously perfectly cooked! The orings were crispy as was the lettuce tomato and pickles. The soft bun was more than up to the challenge of containing the juicy burger and the bacon and cheddar brought even more depth to this huge plate. I asked for and was graciously given a side of chipotle mayo to add and kept forgetting to put it on the burger because it tasted so awesome I just couldn't put it down. There were a couple fries left on the plate when I was done. I don't know if I could have walked out if I finished all of them. You may be thinking- it's just a burger... Trust me when I say it is one of the best burgers anywhere in Boston. read more

Din' think so), but this place is the real deal. Serious. Excellent menu specials changing every day. Solid fall-backs on the (again, changing) full menu (just bring me the short ribs!! What happened here? This had become our go-to neighborhood place over the past 3 yrs. Went there recently on a Friday night--after not going for about 3 months. Two words: Train wreck. The fish "special" was greasier than Long John Silvers. The "seared salmon" atop the Caesar Salad was seared plus 10 minutes. All entrees tasted like they had spent the night under the heat lamp. It may not surprise you that I am on quite a few restaurants' mailing lists. The frequent emails can be a nuisance but every so often offer up a special that intrigues me. Such is the case with West on Centre. A few weeks ago in a phone discussion about dinner options, my wife mentioned the weekly email offering half off on pizza and the fact that Tuesday also happens to be bring your own bottle of wine night. This all ties into an episode of a month ago when some good friends tried to cohere me into joining them for cocktails at the very same restaurant only to find out the day after they were snacking on an amazing pork belly sandwich. So I of course was destined to dine at West. So with a bottle of red, we headed to West. This place is hip for this neighborhood. It has a very modern décor kind of NYC chic. Ah but we came for the food. We split a Caesar salad, which was good. So G got her pizza - simple hand tossed and grilled thin flat bread with tomato and shredded mozzarella cheese. It looked a little too well done but she declined to send it back. It was "okay". So I got the highly recommended Crispy Pork Belly Sandwich with arugula, chimichurri on grilled focaccia. This was as billed amazing. I can count on one hand how many times I actually had a pork belly sandwich and none have been prepared so fancy, underneath the wardrobe was thinly sliced and crisped pork belly. The flavor was so good and went very well with the fresh ingredients. That hit the spot. My son ate very well off the kids menu. It's nice that they have good variety for the youngling and throw in either fresh veggies or sliced fruit. So would I go back? Well we did. The following Tuesday, the weather a little warmer, so G had a chilled Pinot Grigio in tow. I had the Sangria, which the waitress said was good but forewarned that they mix some cinnamon which surprise most people. It was good and although you could smell and taste the cinnamon it was not overpowering. Half carafe was $11 and really 2 1/2 glasses. So this time I started with wilted spinach and arugula salad. It was warmed by the caramelized onions, roasted red peppers, and smoked bacon vinaigrette. The slice of grilled foccacia came in handy to wipe the plate clean. Very nice start. G went back to here simple pizza, this time done just right. I had the house made sausage pizza, which was great topped with crumble sausage, sautéed onions & peppers. Pizzas are just a little more than a single serving for the average diner. Not that this will be a weekly occurrence but the email giving us half off pizzas on a Tuesday with bring your own bottle of wine brought us in. The service, atmosphere, and food will bring us back. West on Centre was well served by their mailing. (Note: pizza is half off on Wednesday, Tuesday only special was in weekly email ;-) read more

One of the best places to go and enjoy fabulous service and great food. The staff go out of their way to check in on each table to see what they can do to make your visit even better. We have had several events in the downstairs room and the planning help is terrific along with the actual support you receive on the day of the event. We recently had to plan a reception after my dad's funeral only 3 days prior to Christmas, it was a hectic and sad time for us made more difficult with long distance travel during the holidays (we live in San Francisco area) . Many places were booked with holiday parties, thankfully West on Centre's private room was available. Eleanor (owner) was most helpful with suggestions, she was available by cell and able to meet with us the night before to finalize the details. Most restaurants wanted a headcount, as we had no idea how many people would show up she helped put together a menu that would work for us. We had a mid-afternoon reception in their private room for 50 people, with a menu of sliders, pizzas, appetizers and open bar. The room was lovely and the service and food were excellent. Waitress was lovely, but really disappointed in how a horrible situation was handled. My pregnant friend had a massive bug in her salad (think grasshopper look and size). No manager or anyone other than a kind waitress came over to apologize for this disgusting mishap. Our waitress was lovely, but this should never happen. She said it was likely bagged lettuce that resulted in the issue, but still there should be apologies for such a disturbing incident. The fact that the bug went unnoticed and was on the plate is truly hard to believe. Then, our entrees were already on the way so we stayed, but all that was offered was free dessert. That seems off base to me as someone that worked in a restaurant. Just doesn't seem like the customer service one would expect in this situation, especially at such a local, family friendly establishment. read more

We ordered: appt crispy cauliflower - 4 star, surprisingly good; appt cheese raviolis - 1 star, tasted like it was from grocery freezer; entree pan seared scallops - 5 star, tasted fresh; entree bbq tenderloin steak tips - 2 star, bbq sauce, mashed potato, veg was good but steak tip was of lesser cut, more briquette type. Along with a couple of bar drinks, bill was about $100. Was it worth it? No. We'll try something else next time and give another review. read more

I come here when ever I visit my mother who lives close by. It is nice, cozy, and resonably priced. They have a fire place to keep you warm in the winter. I really like the Spcy Fried Green Beans as an appetizer. The entres are good (but not great like Franklin Cafe in the S. End), and a good value for the meto west. read more

Short review of this place - great atmosphere (they sectionalize everything). On the right side is a bar, fireplace with sitting area, and small tables for small parties. On the left are more tables and a curtained off area for larger gatherings. Also there are many windows which peer out to the busy Centre Street. Downstairs is another private area for groups to gather, with a patio section. The food was ok. A BLT with avocado and fries came out to around $10. There wasn't really anything special about the BLT, but the bread was confusing. It was toasted but mushy at some parts. Also were the fries, which were only warm and not consistent in their texture. Service I can't really comment about since we were part of a gathering. There was one waitress assigned to our party, but she was quick, attentive and responsive to the orders and requests. Lighting is both combination electric and natural sunlight coming from the windows. I heard contemporary music coming from the sound system. It wasn't loud but comfortable enough to not make the place feel cold and awkward. Overall, West on Centre feels like a Starbucks - you're really paying more for the decor and experience than anything else. Recommended for: Decor, sunlight, restaurant in West Roxbury. read more
