Been here a few times and the food is solid. I like the bar area much more than the dining room. The three stars are for brunch this past weekend. The service could be better - we waited maybe 15-20 minutes before anyone came to take our drink order. I loved the mini muffins they served shortly after. I ordered the turkey eggs Benedict. The turkey was tough and wicked hard to cut. Maybe left over from thanksgiving dinner? Idk. I ended up just taking it out altogether. The rest of the dish was good and the eggs were cooked perfectly. My friend's veggie burger was also very good. Maybe I just ordered the wrong item that day? Overall, mixed bag experience. Hopefully I'll choose something better for my next visit. read more

Ooooh child lemme tell ya. I wanted to try some of everything, but I was with a coworker and didn't want to seem greedy. Plus, everything was a tad pricey so I ordered the soy salmon which came with mashed potatoes, 2 stalks of asparagus and some cherry tomatoes cut into halves for $20. I did think to myself that they could've served me a bigger portion of salmon or more asparagus for the price, but maybe they ran out and had to economize...hahaha. I didn't want to fuss about it since we were only there for a brief meeting over dinner, and since the salmon was cooked just right with a little crisp around the edges, I let it slide. Plus I cleaned almost everything on my plate except for some tomato halves. My coworker had the primavera with grilled salmon which was also small but he said it was tasty and since he received a lot of tasty primavera with it, it made up for the lack of salmon he received. His dish was $18. We were in the dining room which is separated from the bar area. I could hear a ton of noise coming from the bar so I'm guessing that's the place to be if you are there for fun and socializing. I had a vodka martini that you really can't mess up so that was pretty good and he had a mojito. The service was lack luster because although our waitress consistently checked in, she only smiled when she brought the check (probably thinking about the 20% tip she was about to receive on that big bill...lol). I really need to go back there with another foodie and sit in the bar area so I can try out another dish and some of the apps while whooping it up with smiling bartenders and other patrons before I can give it a 5 star rating. Came here for Sunday Brunch - food and drinks were amazing, along with the style and atmosphere, but that's about it. When I called 15 minutes ahead they said that they would have a table ready for me. When I arrived they quoted me another half hour wait. We decided to sit in the bar section which is first come first serve. We sat at a table and waited 10 minutes to even get menus handed to us, and another 10 minutes for someone to come over and ask "Are you waiting on drinks?", "No, we haven't been approached yet", we replied. So he took our order, without any apology that it took 20 minutes to place a drink order. At this time we were swiveling our heads and looking around, which I think is the only reason we finally got served. We ordered all our food and drinks in one order because we didn't want to wait any longer. The food was excellent! Best biscuits and gravy we've ever had! However, my partner's order came out wrong and my meal was missing an ingredient, I had to wave someone down to let them know as we were never checked back upon. It took 20 minutes for my one ingredient to come out, and for my partner's home fries. I would have liked another bloody mary but nobody approached me to ask if I'd like another. Not once was our coffee or water refilled. We had to flag down servers for literally anything we needed, including the check. Now, I realize this review sounds pretty #firstworldproblem ish, but something needs to change on their lounge area. They seem to work in a team, but there's nothing team-like. Nobody seemed to follow through with what we needed as guests, and it took me talking to 3 different people just to get our order right. We are patient people, but there is no excuse for taking 20 minutes just for drinks. This is closest I've ever come to walking out of a restaurant. That being said, the place has potential! Great food, great drinks, and a good atmosphere. But they really need to switch up their server style. Stay out of the lounge if you want any type of normal restaurant experience. After we paid our bill, we brought all this up to management - who seemed concerned. We're not looking for free stuff, but we would definitely never return. read more

The food is good and somewhat eclectic. Very healthy choices. I've had the Agave Ginger Salmon the last time I was there, and cleaned my plate! I had the Veggie Burger another time I was there and it was pretty good. The service is always wonderful. There is also a great function room downstairs. They have a good wine selection, but the beer selection was ok. It had a few IPA's and I wish they had more. Street parking is available, but a little tougher to find on the weekend. read more

Just moved to the area and came here for a late night meal. Definitely disappointed. Truffle fries really flavorless and majority fry scraps. Chicken sandwiches were "meh" tasting, side salads with old lettuce and other veggies. Was pretty accepting of the mediocre food until we saw a mouse scurrying under the dining tables. Notified the server immediately who said she would tell her manager. No one ever came back to the table to acknowledge this, nor did we get any compensation. The mouse made his/her way towards the kitchen so I stopped eating my food and we got the heck out of there. Can't say we will be going back! read more

I have only eaten hear since going vegetarian. There aren't a lot of options. I would say less than the average restaurant. However, the options they DO have are generally good. The beat salad is good, the veggie burger is excellent, and the sweet potato fries are LIKE CRACK. That pretty much covers all the good vegetarian options. There is one more-the pizza--its terrible. Venue: private dining downstairs for our wedding. we had 44 people - perfect size. might have been a little better if we had a spring/summer wedding w/patio access for cocktail reception, but the space still worked. the decor was great (and look for my review of dandelions for flowers and sugar bakery for cake). Food: amazing! we had the option of 4 entrees, filet mignon, statler chicken, salmon and butternut squash ravioli....have yet to hear a bad review from our guests. each entree was nicely plated w/rice pilaf and asparagus. as for appetizers, had sooo many rave reviews of the bacon wrapped meatballs and skewered shrimps! i just wish i had more time to sample everything - being the bride, you don't get to relax and enjoy like everyone else. staff: exceptional!! eleanor was amazing to work with. so accomodating and willing to do whatever we wanted. i was such the non-bride and didn't know what we wanted and she gave me her suggestions/recommendations and was so flexible. always easy to get in touch with via e-mail, work/cell phone and responsive to when i reached out to her. even when she was talking to me in the car away from her computer, she still remembered most of the details of what we discussed. the servers and bartenders were pleasant and so easy to work with....they definitely embrace customer service! my husband is very happy with what we put together, we plan to be patrons of west on centre for many years, anniversaries, birthdays, etc..... to come! read more

Something's going on here and i don't know what it is. But The Nose is fucking down. Maybe there's a new chef in town, but this place has everything you're looking for and more. Chill bar atmosphere? Check. Relaxing fireplace? Check. Bar tables so you can eat and watch the game? Check. Quiet dining atmosphere so you can get all lovey dovey with your special lady friend? Check. Sassy server ladies who flirt with you even if you're old and ugly? Check. Great food. Great portions. Delicious flavor profiles. I've eaten here several times and never walked away with a bad meal. Very affordable. When siting in the dining area, I've never had to wait. Bar is a different story on a Friday or Saturday night. Two reasons why there's no 5 star here. One is the menu hasn't changed very much in a while. Second is I've never been in their outdoor seating. I feel like it's a special secret that keeps assholes like me out. If they expanded outdoor seating and made it more open to the public this place would be perfect. I recommend sitting at the Chef's table if you come for dinner with your lady. We loved it here. It has a blend of classy and family atmosphere. We had great service and the kids were tended to kindly. We didn't order off the kids menu because it was a bit pricey but we just shared our food with them which was amazing, we got sandwiches which were so delicious (pulled pork & another I can't remember). Today we ordered our food. It was about a 40 min wait. Two plates were finally brought to the table. One of the plates was the right order, other was wrong. So had to wait an additional 10 min for the other plate to show up. Since the waitress knew she messed up, the app was on the house. And floor manager apologized. We visit West on Centre pretty often as it's in our neighborhood and we can walk. The atmosphere is great, place is clean and everyone seems friendly. We normally sit in the bar, we like the relaxed feeling, but have sat in the restaurant on several occasions. Food is pretty good, the chipotle chicken quesadilla is out of this world. Definitely our favorite dish. There have been a few meals we haven't enjoyed as much, but I think that's more of a preference thing than a poorly cooked thing. Service could use some sprucing up. I'll speak more on the lounge side because we frequent that side more. The servers are always friendly, but they seem to work in a team service type of format. Unless an extreme amount of communication between servers is there, this can be very tricky to do. Our experiences have been either one extreme or the other. Servers all over us, asking repetitive questions, or having to flag them down to get everything you need. Both can be very frustrating as a guest. Unfortunately last night was the latter of the two and we needed to flag down a server to order our app, order our meals, get refills on our drinks, order our dessert, get the check and pay for the check. Neither server stopped to ask us how our food was, the food runner took the dirty plates, but only after I handed them to him. Towards the end it was getting annoying. We weren't sat in a corner or off to the side, we were right in the path of the service computer so both servers walked by our table constantly. We really like it here and it would be perfect for our local go to, but lounge side needs a bit more organization on the service side. My only other tip would be their kids menu can be a tad on the "adult" side. Pizza is on grilled dough and has a chunky tomato base and a Parmesan shredded topping. Mighty tasty in my opinion, but my toddler turns up her nose . Same with the grill cheese, I like it, but it's served on a rustic thick bread and my toddler just can't see it as grill cheese. Chicken fingers has been overly fried a couple of times, leaving them tough to chew, but this past time they were cooked perfectly and my little one ate them all up! read more

I've never been very compelled to write a review but after tonights experience I feel if I was the owner, I'd want to know. I feel I'm a semi-regular have been coming here for years, the owner Joe Green, is very friendly and is on a first name basis with many of us. West on Centre is not generally my 'go-to' restaurant when I think of grabbing dinner and though I can't really say I've had a 'horrible' experience, I can't recall a phenomenal experience either. I generally meet up with friends on Sundays to grab a beer, a bite, and to play a little trivia. So this is where the issues begin. As far as beers go, it's a fairly normal selection... nothing very exotic. I drink my fair share of different beers but tonight I was Bud Light bottles, which at $4.00 each, I feel are priced in the downtown Boston range but nonetheless, a friend decided to drink a Harpoon IPA on tap... whoops, that and two other draught beers were out of stock... I guess two of the dinner specials were also not available. Now for the food... before I begin about tonight, one of our last visits involved a Chicken Caesar salad. It seems as if the restaurant has decided to use dark meat chicken in lieu of the standard white meat chicken in the preparation... I know the economy is bad but shouldn't a salad of lettuce and chicken for $12-13 maybe have the cut of chicken that is generally regarded as the preferred cut? On to tonight... three of us ended up getting burgers. Simple right? I suppose not... burger #1, ordered well... came out noticeably medium/medium rare... Burger #2 ordered as a simple cheeseburger made with pepperjack cheese was delivered as a cheddar burger with caramelized onions (a short time later the correct burger was delivered... after a longer than normal initial wait) burger #3, my burger, ordered medium with well done bacon came out well done with soft and chewy bacon. This was sent back for a correction as the server acknowledged that the new cook was sh*tty... either way, if I've ordered bacon 'well done' at West on Center a total of 10 times, It's been right probably 2 or 3 times... how hard is it to read an order and get that part right? Listen, West is a nice place, and as I've said... the negative experience with dining won't stop ME from coming back, but as far people trying the place for the first time are concerned, things need to be fixed. If West wants to be considered a bit of a higher caliber restaurant for the area, as the drink prices dictate, the food needs to follow... read more

Very disappointing experience with take out tonight. When I called, the person taking my order was rude, sighing when I asked for salad dressing on the side. "All take out dressings are on the side," she informed me in a frustrated tone. I just said thank you and moved on to my margarita pizza order, asking that it only have fresh mozzarella (as on the menu) but making sure due to my husband's allergies. She said she would put the order in as requested, but the kitchen would "do what they do". Given this response, I told my husband to check when he picked up the pizza. It wasn't ready when he arrived, so he asked the girl at the front if our pizza only had fresh mozzarella. Her response? "I don't speak Spanish. The people in the kitchen only speak Spanish. I can't talk to them." Well, when he got home, the pizza was a basic cheese, all shredded processed cheese, no fresh mozzarella, not a margarita pizza at all. He could not eat it. He actually called the restaurant, was told he couldn't talk to the manager because they were really busy. He insisted and the manager was great, but that can't change the attitudes we were subjected to. If I am spending a good amount of money (app, salad, two pizzas - $60), I don't appreciate the sarcasm. I held my daughter's graduation party at this restaurant and spent a good deal of money on that function. I order take out from this restaurant as often as possible because I love their food. Given my experience this evening, we have decided not to go back and to stop recommending the restaurant to our friends, as we have enthusiastically done. If I call a restaurant with the intention of spending my hard-earned money, I do not want sighs, sarcasm, and then an order that is wrong and detrimental to my husband's health. Clearly, customer service is not a big training point with the front desk at this restaurant. read more

Went here for the first time last night and my experience was awful. We were seated and it was not until ten minutes later that a waitress came to are table with water. Also the Restaurant was not busy, and there were about 4 couples including us! When the waitress came to are table, we asked about certain dishes on the menu and she did not know... Like what kind of fish is in the fish n chips? And about how many raviolis are served in a half order vs. full order? So then we ordered, got the food, and then never saw the waitress again until she took a plates away. Never asked for refills or even how the food was. My friends and I have been to West on Centre several times. I don't know why I go back. The food is terrible and expensive. There is never any place to park in the area. Waitress really have no clue what they are doing. With the Legacy Place open and very busy, I prefer going to the Yard House. Better quality food, Wonderful Staff, superb atmosphere. I finally decided to try West on Centre spontaneously last weekend. I was in West Rox to get coffee, and I had heard it was a pretty good place. We went in to get a takeout menu to check them out, and the decor was kinda nice, so we stayed for Brunch. I wish I hadn't. Sure, the decor in the restaurant is really nice, exposed brick and art deco stuff. The bar area has cool seating and a fireplace, but the album cover sized pics of food on the wall seem misplaced, and it just feels empty in there. The service was very nice, don't get me wrong. Really pleasant staff. I opted for the eggs and homemade chourico with fresh avocado, while my wife got the Pomodoro pizza with some fresh avocado on the side (note, they charged 4 bucks for less than half an avocado!!). While her pizza was pretty good, my meal was not so hot. The chourico was nasty. Instead of looking like linguica or pepperoni, it was this big brown lump. It was bland, with a hint of yuck added for flavor. NO GOOD. The eggs (scrambled with pepperjack i requested) were fine. Plain ol scrambled eggs and cheese. They forgot my side of avocado that it came with, and brought me the tiniest little piece when requested. I may try them for dinner, to see if its any better, but considering the lack of veggie options for the wife, i may not. Overall, UNTHRILLING. read more

Not only was the process seamless, but the night was enhanced with outstanding customer service. Leading up to the event, I partnered with Eleanor who listened carefully to what I needed and worked with me to get it right. I was on a tight budget and she had great suggestions to work within that space. Courtney and Sarah were the superstars who took care of our group all night long. From the moment I walked in to set up, these two were attentive and confident. They made sure I had everything I needed throughout the evening while allowing me to seamlessly interact with the crowd. They had great energy and every guest left feeling like they were special. On top of all of this, the place is immaculate, the patio is a dream, the food was great and the atmosphere was laid back. It's a great local hangout and a nice spot for family dinner in West Roxbury. From the comforting fireplace in the bar area to the open kitchen on the restaurant side, West dances with fun, casual and relaxing. The prices are reasonable, way better than downtown Boston. Our waiter and busser were great and friendly but they may have to tweak the hostess service as in keeping up to date on table times and notifying waiters that they seated someone at their table. Believe me, I've worked that position before but if you get flustered, people waiting will sense that and will start with a pessimistic experience. Food was great and the drinks are very innovative (especially the lime ricki). I had the sole which can be a complicated fish soaking up everything in sight, but this was light and not too buttery. The vegetable of the day was asparagus which says they know what foods are in season. And the burger, let me tell you about that! so juicy and huge with extra crispy fries if you like that. I've been here several times before and I've had good experiences. Tonight wasn't good. We show up in an empty restaurant and we get seated at a small table next to the Kitchen. When we got the menus, it was a new menu. It was more seasonal and it seemed expensive. I ordered the baked haddock which came with mashed potatoes and green beans. It was bland, bland, bland. Usually Haddock has some flavor -- not in this case. It seemed off somehow. Then for dessert I got the banana bread -- more blandness. Waiter was good but service was slow. We are always looking for restaurants with kid's menus that are not chains, which is how we stumbled across West on Centre. The kids meals come with fruit and were broad enough to appeal to the five kids (2 families) we brought. It is loud, as has been mentioned in several other reviews. I like the atmosphere (bustling) however, and have always had a good meal here. We have been several times, always for dinner. I would recommend as a family choice.
