I'm new to Boars Head, West coasters are not as familiar with this brand, but I will now seek it out as a converted "Boar-liever". Had the Italian hoagie. The most fresh sandwich I have ever had, like I grew the veggies in my own garden. Price and portion were very reasonable and an absolute bargain in DC which is generally and annoyingly expensive for no apparent reason. This is a very busy place with tons of locals. Don't expect a table as everything is served to go. There is also a process to getting it done, so watch a few locals to figure out how is done. read more

Any place that uses Boars Head meat is already on my short list and West Wing does not disappoint... The place is small - only a couple tables. Good for to-go lunches. They move you through the line fast - food is served promptly and you pay at a separate counter. A lot of snacks, treats, and drinks to choose from scattered all around the cafe. The sandwich/panini/wrap/salad menu is expansive - you will find something you like! I got the Italian and asked for it to be served hot - it was really good and filling. Solid choice for downtown lunch. $10 gets you a sandwich, can of soda and chips. My go-to sandwich is the gouda gobbler: turkey and gouda. They use boar's head deli meats, which are fine, and the sandwich trimmings are usually fresh and generous (winter tomatoes not great, but that's true pretty much everywhere). My personal pet peeve is they yell the name of your order (e.g. "gouda gobbler!") for pickup instead of your name or order #; I don't need everyone to know what I'm eating! It gets pretty packed at lunchtime, but if you go around 2 it's a four-star experience. You're not going to find the best sandwich you ever ate, but you're also not going to be disappointed and have your afternoon ruined. Which is saying something for a downtown lunch. read more

The young Asian lady working at the counter taking our orders was without a doubt the rudest, snottiest restaurant employee I've ever encountered in my 59 years of life. Long story short: I have a lawsuit in Washignton and had to take the bus from New York to take care of it. As I get off 5:30am I meet this nicest guy who refers me a cafe and says his will be open soon. I return to DC and visit Scott Li's place and love it. Great hot chocolate and sandwich. They are too expensive for the type of food they sell. How can a Keiser Roll with ONLY egg & cheese cost $4.80. NO MEAT. Makes NO SENSE. Everything is over priced. Owners are rude, when you ask a question, they answer in a very rude way. They do not care for their customers. This has turned into my go-to place in the city for a sandwich. The service is super quick, even during the lunchtime slam. Best part...they use Boars Head meat!!! While that's the standard meat in NYC/NJ, it's hard to find delis that use it around here. It's simply the best! They are a little skimpy on the cheese and lettuce but it's all about the quality meat! I usually get my sandwich on a kaiser roll. The roll is pretty good--not too squishy but not too firm. I really used to love going to this place but I find myself becoming more and more annoyed each visit. Each time I order a sandwhich, then pay and return to work I open my sandwhich to find there is something on it that I didnt ask for namely TOMATOES!!! or in today case TOMATOES but no Gouda cheese. (Mind you they charge for cheese) This happens to me each time I visit and with several differedt people and its really annoying because Im ""ALLERGIC" to tomatoes. Im starting to wonder if I have a speaking disability that only enables others to hear what I dont want on my sandwhich. the worst part is that they write the orders down, AND STILL GET IT WRONG.!!!!???HOW does that happen?? 1. I understand that people forget and make mistakes but this has happened too many times. If you ignore a small thing like tomatoes, what else are you ingnoring? 2. I should not have to INSPECT my sandwhiches for things I didnt ask for. I paid for it and I expect it to be right. A tomato is such a little thing, but little things mean a lot when youre allergic to them. This has happened so many times in the past year that the next time I walk into that Deli I am making a special request to speak to a manager. I have tried numerous times to ignore this, I even at one point stopped going there. West wing is the closest deli near my job that sells Boars head and outside of the tomato incidents the sandwhichs are good. SOOO if you dont mind having to keep repeating the same thing at the counter although you will certainly be ignored, its ok. I personally have reached the end of my rope and will be talking to the manager tomorrow. After that Ill suffice to buy my own Boars head and save myself the money and aggravation. read more

Megan and I came here for breakfast and I knew we were the perfect business traveling partners when she said, "Would you think it's weird if I got frozen yogurt for breakfast?!" And I replied, "Heck no, I was going to get the same thing." When we went to order it was genuinely bizarre. Who's in charge here? No one seems to know. In fact, none of the five people behind the counter even looked up when we walked up, they were intently busying themselves with prep work or apparently making breakfast sandwiches for the 2 other people who were there. After a few asks and just announcing to no one in particular what we wanted to order - but not getting any sense of confirmation -- we just stood there and talked to each other. A few minutes later a couple of frozen yogurts and a coffee for Megan appeared on the counter. We tried to pay but they directed us to a cashier at the very front of the place by the door, who also didn't say anything but the price. Yogurt was tasty, and the fruit was artfully arranged on top. Though, I felt like we could have eaten our yogurt and just skedaddled out the door without anyone noticing we were even in the place. The new West Wing location on 20th street (between L and M) opened earlier this month and it is a great addition to the area. The deli is extremely clean, well stocked and very organized with a unique and broad snack and beverage selection. They offer a wide variety of Boar's Head products - and also feature a decent list of fruit smoothies. I started going here for breakfast after the place in my office building started raising their prices and substituting items for low quality, cheap ones. I typically get a hard boiled egg (found in the back refrigerator), 1 L bottle of water, and a small coffee all for under $4. Sometimes I get a bagel & cream cheese here and it still doesn't cost a fortune like my previous deli. The coffee is decent and they even offer the little flavored creamers for you to use. I looove the Hazelnut! I've been here for lunch a couple times and the sandwiches were good. They use Boar's Head for their deli meat. Since WWC opened up around the corner from my office, boasting that beautiful outdoor patio-on-a-street-corner-a-la-Paris, I'd been excited to come check it out. I was especially excited to perhaps finally have a decent lunch spot in town where I could take guests who were playing tourist in DC. I finally went and, oh my, the disappointment hit hard. WWC gets two stars for being so big & spacious inside, and having that gorgeous dark teak? wood furniture. But the single item I ordered--the Vegetarian Specialty Sandwich--was awful. The wheat bread slices were partially stale/hard (like, Safeway brand wheat bread); the edges of the cheddar cheese were equally dry, the avocado I bit into had the consistency of a carrot (horrible--especially when avocado is the best part of a good vegetarian sandwich!), and there was no salt/pepper/flavor in the rest of the ingredients (granted, this isn't WWC's fault--veggies are veggies, I suppose). All in all, a sore disappointment, especially since I've been aching for some good lunch options around these parts. I'm willing to give the deli one more try for sure, but for now, my first impression was . . . meh. read more

I work in the Old Post Office Pavilion and the food court leaves very much to be desired. There is only one place I will get one kind of sandwich. SO, when I discovered West Wing Cafe was just about half a block away, I was delighted. They have great sandwiches and paninis. They have about 5 specials daily which include sandwich, chips and a drink for between $6-$7. If you work in the area or are just touring around - this is def a great place for a quick fabulous and inexpensive lunch. read more

This place has bagels and coffee and other breakfast foods. I got a poppyseed bagel with cream cheese and lox. The bagel and cream cheese was perfectly fine but there was barely any lox (like one piece) of lox on my bagel. It was a little upsetting. read more

Went to the location on 20th between L and M because I love Boar's Head deli meats and was excited to find a place that served them. It didn't come up short, and gave me the best quality cold sandwich I've had in DC yet. Turkey sub sold under the name "Cabbie" came loaded with avocado, crispy bacon, red onions, and great quality mayo, which just makes the sandwich. The presence of the Boar's Head turkey, good mayo, and fresh bread immdiately brought to mind strong positive memories of many years of Publix subs back in Florida. In fact, this is the closest thing I've had yet. While waiting for my sandwich, I went digging through the racks in the corner looking for a side, and settled on these "Good Health Chilean Lime Kettle Chips", which looked interesting because they were cooked in avocado oil, and plus I love lime. While I don't know if there is anything about me eating a 700-calorie bag of chips in one sitting that would evoke the phrase "Good Health", I can honestly say that they were the best chips I've ever had. Also the gourmets out there will like the fact that the avocado theme provided some continuity running through the meal. I will be back in the near future to try more of their sandwiches. Very good place to grab a quick lunch downtown that's not a national or local chain. Food: Nice selection of Boar's Head meats. It's not like they are roasting their meats on the premises, but the quality is still very high. The Pastrami is respectable. (I wish they would stop offering me cheese with it.) Good selection of chips, plus items you might not expect at a DC sandwich shop. Wasabi peas, for instance. Decor: Clean. A bit stylish but in a very generic way. Service: Friendly. I think things would run better if I spoke a little Korean or they spoke English beyond what was learned in the English for Entrepreneurs class. Value: About what you expect. Fresh deli meat, sandwiches, salads! I went to this place off the humble one day while I was looking for something different to eat for lunch. I saw this little deli spot tucked away and decided to stop in and boy was I glad I did. When you walk in you are greeted by a friendly host. The deli meat is displayed in the deli with grace. They have everything from soup, salad, chips, etc. This is a typical deli spot. I ordered a club on a croissant and it was delicious. Meat was very, very tasty, my croissant was fresh and my sandwich wasn't rushed when it was made so it wasn't sloppy. Amidst the hustle and bustle of downtown DC sits this deli. The service is pretty great and the food complements that service. Sandwiches are made quickly and contain some great breads and meats.
