We were so excited to go out for lobster at "Westbrook Lobster ". They need to change their name to maybe Westbrook Frozen seafood. They no longer have their signature dish baked stuffed lobster. I didn't see any fresh lobsters there. So very disappointed! So we ordered anyway since they have always been so good. We had fried fish platter and fried "whole" clams. It was terrible, greasy and the whole clams were frozen strips. I sent mine back. At least I didn't have to pay for mine. I would suggest if you want lobster find a new place. read more

This was the first time I tried this place. And it will be my last! I got take out. Fish and chips and fried whole belly clams. The clams were all very chewy. The fish was chewy also and tasted previously frozen. The batter on the fish was thick and greasy. It was disgusting. I ate 4 or 5 bites and the rest of the $25 meal went right in the trash. We went here for lunch and splurged. For appetizer we ordered the lobster flat bread, it arrived with chunks of lobster claws on it (YUM). We also ordered soup, lobster bisque, I went for the bread bowl (WHICH I TOTALLY RECOMMEND BTW, SO FREAKING FRESH) & for our entree, we decided to go for Atlantic Salmon! Holy cow, so mouth watering good. I mean, the salmon was so soft, but good soft, not that ew wtf, it was like a piece of heaven. I am currently working in the area and this location has been highly recommended by several local people. I decided to go last night and start by trying the specialty, steamed lobster. It had a lot of flavor, if a bit salty, but little else. We struggled to find anything in it but broth, let alone clams. My sister ordered the Atlantic salmon with sautéed spinach that she declared "absolutely delicious". I sampled it and must agree. It was very good, indeed! I ordered the baked stuffed lobster, and when it came to the table, I was surprised to see, not a fluffy, light seafood stuffing, but a "log", for lack of a better word, of hard packed and somewhat dry stuffing. Not what I'm accustomed to for seafood stuffing. The lobster was somewhat dry and tasteless as well. When our server returned to ask how our meal was, I felt compelled to confess my disappointment with both the stuffing and lobster. She apologized profusely and called the owner to the table. He immediately apologized as well, saying that he did not want an unhappy customer, and offered to substitute the baked stuffed lobster with a boiled one. I at first refused, saying it wasn't THAT bad, but he again said he didn't want a dissatisfied customer. I said "ok" to the boiled lobster and honestly felt a bit guilty about them tossing a whole, uneaten lobster in the trash. The replacement lobster was MUCH better, and was cooked perfectly, but was also a bit tasteless, which I cannot attribute to the restaurant, but to their supplier. To give you some background here we've been going here for years and I always said the food was OK but the speed of service lacked a little something. Even when the restaurant is empty they still are very slow. Which is the reason I usually am at Westbrook Lobster only once or twice a year. This past experience was it and will never go there again. What happened was inexcusable. Upon entering the restaurant the greeter gave attitude because we were a party of seven. As if it was too many people to accommodate. If seven people are too many it's time to close down and go home because you're doing it wrong. One of my companions even asked if it was a problem we could go elsewhere but they did pull some seats together for us. 30 or so minutes later and we were not even given menus or asked what we wanted to drinks. And the place was empty. Once customers started coming in they were getting waited while we sat. Finally we flagged the waitress down who insisted, once questioned, that we weren't waiting long and she didn't forget about us. We ordered. The food took forever to get to us and wasn't all that great. After the food came out our waitress was gone. Never to be seen again. We had to get up and get another server to get our check. Our waitress was clearly "distracted" by something. Maybe a few too many on break or whatever, who knows. She was not acting right at all. Finally we paid and on the way out another of my group gave feedback to the manager who then started to argue and fight back and forth defending his employee. Nice to see loyalty but man when you're wrong you're wrong. Man up to it and take responsibility for your employee not doing her job properly. As I said I'll never go here again and will never recommend Westbrook Lobster to anyone. read more

Happy hour is from 4-7 BAR TIME. After placing my order at 6:40 (after a 20 minute wait for the server to show), the server returned at 6:45 to say happy hour was over, and sorry, but she couldn't get the order in for sliders, fries and drinks. We encouraged her to go ask the manager, but she returned saying 'Sorry, rules...". So we changed our order to steamers, to which she returned at 7:10 so say "Sorry, we are out". I first heard about this place from my sister. She let me try some leftover lobster macaroni-(delicious!) so I knew I wanted to come here eventually. I finally came for happy hour and this place is just great. The margaritas were strong but worth it, the fried calamari was yummy, the onion rings and chipotle chicken tenders were on point. The time of the food being served was within a reasonable time frame. The decor of the restaurant is nice. The only negative comment I have is that there didn't seem to be enough staff. I would rate it on the verge of four stars if I could. I went here with my parents for lunch and my dad got a burger that he said was chewy. I got lobster mac and cheese because I haven't had it in a while and it should be an easy dish for any seafood restaurant. I would've liked more lobster and less breadcrumbs because I had to hunt for the lobster and certain pieces of the lobster were a bit chewy but the pasta was cooked al dente. I also tried some of my mom's onion rings since she got whole belly's and fish and substituted her fries for onion rings. Now I'm not sure if this is because I haven't had onion rings in a while or what but they were really good. Atmosphere: Great, dark food, clean, and attractive waitresses Food: Amazing, what we had: RI Fried calamari NE clam chowder Lobster Bisque Lobster mac and cheese Pesto crusted salmon Everything was ridiculous hot, and delicious, especially the soups. Both soups were amazing. The meals were huge portions, couldn't even finish them, and they were delicious. I had no complains. Good prices for very fresh seafood. The hostess was fast, and the waitresses were very nice, and great at explaining the menu. I would definintly come back, and plan to. We love the atmosphere at this location. The other Westbrook Lobster actually leaves much more to be desired. This spot is classy with beautiful wooden floors, high ceilings and wood beams. We always have good service here and the food is delicious though a bit pricey. The bar is popular and the rush hour seems to be fairly early. You might have a wait at say 5:30 or 6 but it will be dead by 8, in my experience. My husband loves their steamers and I usually enjoy their clam strips or a side salad and their delicious clam chowder. I definitely recommend the New England Clam chowder! People are giving this place 4 and 5 stars? Are you nuts or do you have no taste? This is absolutely one of the worst places we have ever been to eat. It is a disgrace to the seafood that they try to serve. There was very little seafood in the clam chowder and lobster bisque, and the bisque seemed simply cream, salt and pink food coloring. Awful. My baked shrimp and scallops was completely tasteless. It was supposed to be cooked in garlic and wine but it can't have been done in anything other than water because it had no taste. Now I don't like salty food, and usually chefs overdo it. But in this case, I would have loved to have any kind of spice or savory added to the meal. What a waste of $19.95. Expensive too! Wow. They didn't even do my son's hamburger correctly, it somehow came out tasteless and fatty. In fact, 4 of us had a bite out of it to confirm it just didn't taste like a burger. How can someone screw up a hamburger???? The last time my brother and sister in law went here was 8 years ago when they opened. Now they don't have great taste in restaurants, but even they said it was lousy 8 years ago. We went with them this evening and all agreed it was the worst food in Wallingford, and certainly hadn't improved in the past 8 years. Horrible, horrible, horrible. I would take the 4 and 5 star ratings with a huge wad of salt. This place sucks in the worst way, and I have to doubt that anyone giving it those ratings knows anything about food. They probably give the food at Disney high marks too. Excuse me now, I am going to go puke up my dinner. We really like this place and enjoy coming here when we're in town. There are lovely wood floors, beautiful tall windows and brick walls - it's a nice romantic dimly-lit setting that is great for a date night. Ok, I know it's weird to start with a side, but the vegetable medley was made to order! Usually veggie "medleys" are lifeless frozen blech, but this had fresh zucchini and squash and it wasn't overdone or too buttery. Totally worth it... don't worry you'll get crappy limp side veggies and then have total french fry envy, this is a solid choice. They have great oysters on the half shell and the steamers were a generous portion and very tasty / high quality, just make sure you're ready to pull off the little stockings (we were) because these aren't cherrystones. Friendly waitstaff; the manager checked on us several times. They have a decent lobster salad roll too, but I'm a bit of a purist and this had celery in it. Not necessary. We'll try some of the hot entrees next time, but you could easily make a great meal out of a selection of their appetizers. The bad reviews here seem to be tad snarky and vengeful and based more on the late night drinking experience and other patrons than on the food itself. If you want late night booze and bar food, go to Archie Moore's. If you want a nice dinner in a softly lit nice space with friendly servers, come here. Truth be told we walk in looking classy enough but depending on how enthusiastically we partake in the beverages, we've been known to violate the giant lobster statue on the way out. read more

Great grub. This was a last minute choice. Boy did we make s good one. My work partner and I wanted seafood. There was an accident on i-84. No way to make New Haven in time. So we get off at Wallingford. Took stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer great choice. Stuffed with scallops, shrimp and nicely spiced stuffing. Wonderful! For dinner I was feeling scallops... Not lobster... I know I know... Boy what a great choice I made! Sheared U10 scallops over a bed of wilted spinach and a cheddar polenta. All covered in a sweet chutney. The scallops were buttah! They melted in my mouth I don't share my food. But I gotta tell you I offered it to my work buddy and people around us. Wow what a great flavor. The chutney was in a word "goody goody gum drops" (ok it's more than one wore but wow). I am not a polenta guy but good corn is what you need!! Mixing these 4 elements together was wunderbar! I could not believe how wonderful this taste was for me. Worth the price! Which was not not much, high $20s. Overall experience is great. Chrissy the bartender/server was aces! I'd been by this place many times but never stopped in until last week. It's a seafood restaurant and it was a Friday during Lent, so needless to say it was packed. We waited about an hour for a table, but there was a nice variety of beer on tap to keep us refreshed while we waited. The waitress was friendly and attentive and the food was solid. I had a crab cake and fried clam strips, and both were good. I've definitely had better seafood, but overall it was good and i was hungry!
