Western has been one of my favorite bagel spots for years. They tend to have a larger variety and they don't run out quickly like other nearby shops. I usually order their breakfast bagel sandwich with bacon, egg, red onion and tomato on sesame. So good! My only suggestion would be asking them to double toast your bagel. They claim they toast the bagels but they never taste/look toasted unless I ask. I highly recommend them! I hope you enjoy it :) read more

I am very happy to report that Western Bagel changed their bag policy after I complained to their corporate office. I went in today for a bagel and a latte and when I requested a bag with a handle they gave it to me with no problem. This is a big deal to me because I only have use of one hand and carrying a paper bag and a latte one handed is impossible. I love me some Western Bagel. Been eating here for many MANY years. Of course, the staff comes and goes, but it's unfortunate to have the current staff that is working at this location in Burbank. We've been twice over the past two months and both times were a disaster. We order very specifically. We speak clearly (even with masks) and we usually say things twice to make it easier for the person preparing our order. Both times, the order comes out and it's not right. Trust me, it's not a difficult order! I've visited all of the other locations. I know a higher standard or service that Western can deliver. If you do visit this location, just be ready for a downgraded experience when it comes to customer service. Alexa, play Tina Turner "Simply the Best" I lived in NYC for 8 years and these are the closest I have found to authentic NY bagels and cream cheese in LA. My only wish is that they have Gluten-Free, but it's great that they have a Vegan options. Their blueberry and chocolate muffin are delicious too. Very consistent with quality, packaging and taste. I've been to Western Bagel many times, but my most recent experience has compelled me to write this review. I placed an online mobile order for a bagel egg sandwich. Problem #1 is the mobile order website does not allow you to order the sandwich without meat. Meat choice is a required field, even though a bagel egg & cheese sandwich is not unheard of. The website won't you to order a bagel/egg/cheese sandwich without meat. Since I was part of a group and needed to do a mobile order, I selected "bacon" and then in the "additional notes" section wrote, "NO BACON/MEAT PLEASE." The employees disregarded this section of the order and I was served a sandwich with bacon on it. Unfortunately, I was not able to go back, so I pulled all the bacon off, which was attached to the cheese, so I ended up having a very dry bagel and egg sandwich. Western Bagel needs to fix their mobile order site to allow vegetarian sandwiches AND ensure employees read additional notes of orders which can be cricual for those of us with dietary restrictions and allergies. For better bagels and service, I recommend driving up the road to Hank's Bagels. read more

I'm downgrading my assessment a bit because of changes that have taken place: * Onion bagels, previously my favorite (and my favorite with other bagel shops), now are practically bare of onion pieces. * The shop touts its hot turkey sandwich, which it makes available at a slight discount as one of its rotated weekly specials (of which you're notified after sign-up). But if you arrive too late you can't get it at any price. (I don't know exactly when it runs out, but the shop currently closes at 2 pm.) You can substitute other meats. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * On the plus side, outdoor eating, which was for a long time unavailable because of construction, is again an option. Customer service was horrendous.. I was in town and craving first stop from airport was a western bagel. We walked in and so excited to be there. 5 maybe 6 people were standing there .. not one person said hi.. I stood there for 3 minutes . We spent over $120 in pastries and bagels and cream cheese for our trip for the week .. I was so disgusted .. I started laughing to myself because of how miserable everyone was . Taking my order like a sienfield episode . Then I needed a few more things.. I was scared to death to go back up to the counter because I had asked for plastic bags for the bagels . It was just a horrible experience. I wish people knew customer service and would not look so miserable and ruin everyone else's day!!! So I ran in to grab my favorite Pumpernickel bagel smothered in lox cream cheese. When I got back to my car and took a bite and I realized my pumpernickel bagel was something else... Unsure if my cream cheese with lox was giving it a different flavor I took another bite. Nope! It definitely tasted more like a strong wheat bagel. When I returned inside to explain to them I didn't think their pumpernickel was really pumpernickel, one of the employees Jose, pulled a bagel out and took a bite himself. And then declaring you're right it doesn't taste like pumpernickel. I want to commend them for their excellent customer service and kind attitude. I think this is something that's becoming a lost art in the work world. I would definitely drive the distance and come back just because of their fantastic employees behind the counter. So overall a very positive experience and might I add he made sure to put the amount of lox cream cheese on my new everything bagel that I had before on the one that was tossed. Thank you! read more

We used to come here for breakfast all the time. We haven't been back in a while, and today is our last time. This place has gone so downhill! We ordered ahead for a breakfast sandwich and bagel, when we came to pick it up they completely changed our order and made it completely different then how we asked, and they wanted to charge extra for things we didn't request. Then, they charged us double on accident, and when we requested a refund they told us they can't refund credit cards?! That makes no sense. The workers were rude and not apologetic for mistakes made on their end. This place is BUSY & overpriced. No problem finding parking. I enjoyed my breakfast but you're better off buying a plain bagel and adding toppings at home. Service is good but not excellent as servers ask what you'd like but don't actually remember your order. We come to the Burbank location on Hollywood Way often. We have great service, prompt, courteous, Love the bagels and pastries. That all changed today. The lady got our order wrong 3 times & then, the last time we corrected it, part of our order was missing. We went back and they were out of what we ordered. Horrible!! It was the first thing we ordered and there was half a tray in the case. Super annoyed!! It was very obvious she wasn't paying any attention at all to what we ordered. Western Bagel gives me nostalgia of happy childhood days. The bagels are still just as fresh as I recall when I was younger, and my favorites still remain the same: everything cheese bagel, you will forever have a place in my heart... I have been visiting the Burbank location because it is closest to me, and this location is still fairly busy. I believe they do take online and phone orders, so I do wish I had taken advantage of ordering in advance as people love their Western Bagel! I never regret making a visit here, and the family is always appreciative! I appreciate that Western Bagel does practice social distancing, there are labels on the floor to denote where you should stand, and there is also a table in between you and the counter, so you are not super close to anyone when in the store. Journeyed all the way from Glendale to Burbank one Saturday morning I was craving a bagel. I used to go to western bagel in northridge all the time in college. There are no good bagel places near me so I decided to go to Burbank to reminisce on those bagel college mornings. I got there at 6:20 in the morning to pick up an online order. Aside from the one person who was already with her coffee, I was the only one there. Neither person at the counter greeted me or made eye contact. I stood there kinda giving them a minute since they both were in the middle of something, but within a couple minutes there were about 7 more people behind me and still none of us acknowledged. Another employee came in, went into the back, came right back out and started assisting. I get people can be busy but eye contact and a head nod of acknowledgement could go a long way. The location is very convenient and there are plenty of parkings. Well organized operations and the line moves pretty quickly. I knew what I wanted before getting there. The service was great and he made my bagel sandwich in no time. When I am in NYC, I only get lox and cream cheese and onion on my bagel sandwich but this place put everything on it. I'm not a fan of lettuce & tomato on my bagel sandwich but this was actually good. I think the right portion of everything makes it good. I will definitely come back here for more. Western bagel has yet to disappoint. First, let's start with the best coffee. They have an awesome variety of flavored coffee from hazelnut, vanilla to Sumatra. Now, stating the obvious, the famous western bagels. My favorite, the Everything, onion, jalapeño and cheese, and long bialy. Did I mention their soft, creamy and tasty cream cheese? They also sell flavored and lox cream cheese. Western bagel has a number of locations; most locations are in SF valley. Burbank being the closest location to me makes me want to yell hooray. Moving back to Los Angeles from New York meant losing my precious daily bagel, courtesy of the bagel cart outside my apartment, but Western Bagel patches up that hole in my heart quite well. It's located in a large plaza and consistently churns out bagel varieties such as everything, onion, and blueberry, along with atypical versions like sourdough, jalapeno-cheese, and cinnamon crunch. They also serve delicious spreads and sandwiches -- the moment when they lift that dome and slice off a hunk of juicy turkey when making your turkey bagel sandwich is... well, I've been coming here for years. Because these are arguably 'artisan', they do have slightly higher prices but you get the quality you pay for. They would get one more star if they improve their coffee--it was not good at all. It was served from a vacuum carafe and was not hot.
