I'm leaving this review because of the frustrating lack of communication and system failures prior to my appointment. While the office staff were perfectly fine in person, the process leading up to the visit was a mess. I called to schedule a second opinion and verified with my insurance that it would be covered. However, after arriving, I was told I had to pay out-of-pocket. Beyond the billing confusion, I never received the promised link for the new patient packet. Their online portal wouldn't confirm my submission either, so I had to print and bring the paperwork myself. The staff is okay, but the office systems and pre-appointment communication definitely need improvement. It is frustrating to have the office fail to communicate costs and fail at basic new patient onboarding. I would not recommend this practice if you value transparency. read more

Do yourself a favor and find another dentist office! I called and scheduled an appointment. The next day, I arrived before my scheduled appointment time, only to be told that they had made a mistake and had actually scheduled me for earlier in the day. I agreed to reschedule for the following day. The next day, I arrived at the scheduled time, and nearly an hour later, I still had not even been taken back to a room. First, I was told someone was late returning from lunch. Then I was told there was a delay in the office because one of the dentists had called out, and they had decided not to reschedule any appointments. Terrible service and incredibly frustrating, especially after they had already messed up my original appointment. Rather than rescheduling patients when they knew they were short-staffed, they chose to leave people waiting and inconvenience patients with unnecessary delays and poor service. This review is for Western Dental & Orthodontics on Chicago Ave in Riverside. My wife has been dealing with this office for orthodontic care, and watching what she's gone through has been incredibly frustrating. Once they have your payment, the level of care and responsiveness drops significantly. When one of her brackets broke, she was basically told to wait -- on their time, regardless of discomfort or urgency. There is no flexibility and no sense of concern for patients who are already paying for ongoing treatment. What makes this situation worse is that she cannot go to another Western Dental location to get a simple bracket fixed. She is forced to deal only with this office, even when they can't give her a clear answer. It turns into a vicious cycle of calls, waiting, being told someone will follow up, and then hearing nothing. The lack of professionalism is obvious. Staff give vague answers, contradict each other, and avoid committing to anything concrete. Getting a straight answer from someone who actually knows what's going on feels nearly impossible. Orthodontic treatment is stressful enough without being brushed off and ignored after payment has already been made. This entire experience has been exhausting and unnecessary. Worst dental clinic I've ever been to. Appointment at 11:15, got there at 10:50 to fill out paperwork, waited until 12:50 and not being called in and i just gave up and canceled. Complete waste of time. You will see people come in after you who wait 5 minutes before being called in. Also told me that they'd do procedures but wouldn't even tell me if they'd check if it's covered by the insurance beforehand. Lazy ass staff too who don't answer questions thoroughly and give attitude as if they don't notice you've been waiting over an hour and 30 minutes, when yes they do notice you've been waiting that long in the office. I was a little late for my appt and spoke with Karen on the phone who assured me I would still be seen. When I entered she greeted me and make the check in process seamless. I waited for about 5 mins before being called back to get my X-rays and service. The X-ray tech was extremely nice and got my images done quickly. I came for a cleaning and an issue with my wisdom teeth. Devonna submitted the information needed to my insurance and explained everything to me throughly; but also in terms I could understand. She was very personable and knowledgeable. Overall it was an extremely positive experience from stepping in the office to the end of my cleaning. I went with my boyfriend to his dentist appointment here on a Saturday and was rather unimpressed with the quality of service we received from the staff here. As we walked in, there was a weirdly unwelcoming environment from everyone. The appointment was originally made for 2:45 (which we checked in for at 2:40) and waited an HOUR to be called back. As we waited, we not only watched several people go in before us, despite arriving AFTER us, but also kept getting bit by mosquitoes. By the time we finally got to the back to be seen, they took some x-rays and the doctor informed my boyfriend that he would need gum surgery, deep cleaning, and all of his wisdom teeth removed. However, the doctor did not really explain why any of that was needed (aside from the gum surgery a LITTLE bit) -- and this is especially weird/concerning because the wisdom teeth were already grown in and NOT bothering him. After very little explanation, the doctor left and a woman from the front came in and goes straight into how we were paying for the services (which was almost $5,000) that we didn't even get an explanation for. We decided to not go through with any of the services and instead find an office/doctor that is more welcoming and that can offer a more detailed explanation for services that might be needed. I'm not sure if it was just a bad day or maybe because it was Saturday and just about closing time that created this environment, but based on other reviews it seems like a regular thing. read more

Avoid at all cost! While I understand that businesses are out to make money, these people will actively try to scam you by recommending costly procedures you don't need and coincidentally will not be covered by your insurance. This is what they did to me. They tried to get me to spend out of pocket for a costly gum regiment that was supposed to restore or help restore a gum line that receded a bit. I took their recommendation another dentist who laughed and told me I needed a simple gum treatment/cleaning that was far cheaper. When I confronted the nurses at my next visit, presenting them with the recommendations by another dentist they acted like I never spoke and continued to push something I didn't need. They followed up with X Rays and told me my gums were infected coincidentally in the area where i have a crown which they have trying to get me to replace even though its fine. They gave me the number to a "specialist" presumably to see what treatment my gums would need and if my crown had to be replaced as a result. I called multiple times to no answer. When I finally got this specialist I was informed they once worked one day out of the month! So I made an appointment with another dentist. After another examination and x-rays the dentist found nothing wrong with my teeth or gums. In fact they area that was supposedly infected was an area western dental didn't clean with my last tooth cleaning which had a mild build up due to the difficulty in reaching that area. So buyer beware! these people will half ass actual work by not doing a proper teeth cleaning but charge full price and worse will use fear tactics to get you to get things you most likely don't need! read more

This dental office, its reception staff and dentists specifically Dr. Mehta are manipulative scammers who tread the lines of discriminatory/predatory practices and treatment. To the extent of what I can type on this public platform, I have NEVER been more disgusted or disappointed in a professional setting. During my recent experience, I was practically denied treatment despite the receptionist speaking with my insurance carrier and confirming that routine care would be covered. Dr. Mehta showed absolutely no empathy and stepped out to discuss payment /coverage parameters and never ever addressed the dental angst or dental problem. Dr. Mehta ultimately made a discretionary decision not to see me, regardless of my explaining excruciating toothache/nerve pain and my repeated plea to confirm coverage for treatment. This office clearly prioritizes payment over patient care, they have no regard for fair treatment or human care/decency. The receptionist "Brenda" was incredibly rude, obnoxious, discourteous unprofessional, entirely impolite, unconcerned asserting (verbatim) "Yeah, in other instances, with other patients we haven't gotten paid, and insurance kicks the bill back, I don't want a chargeback' so we're not going to see you" I will be reporting this to the dental board and better business bureau. I strongly discourage anyone and everyone who seeks quality or dignified care from wasting their time or energy at this terribly difficult and cumbersome office. You will NOT BE HELPED, you'll likely be prematurely scheduled based on call centers lack of awareness and poor communication skills, you'll be met with conflicting misinformation, manipulative practices and completely dodged actual help or treatment. read more

I came in today for a cleaning.. and unfortunately learned I need more than just a cleaning. I received excellent service from Karen at the front desk. She provided service with a smile and got me all checked in for my appt. I did not have to wait long to be called back. Pro tip: book an appt Laura processed my paperwork to the insurance and answered all my questions/concerns regarding my future dental work. She was kind and professional. The person on the phone gave me one with a 1:30 time with a particular doctor and gave the address. Upon arrival at 1:15, I signed in & sat down as told. When they called me up they took my insurance & id & gave me some paperwork. After some time they called me up & told me the doctors were at lunch til 2, even though I had been told by them on the phone that the appointment was at 1:30. I continued filling out forms. Some time later they called me back up and said the doctor my appointment was booked with was not even at this office, & that a different doctor would see me. How the wrong time and specific doctor wasn't noted immediately upon my arrival is beyond me. I waited & waited & waited some more. I moved my children from this office 6-7 months ago after they tried to charge me for something my insurance covers, for which they claimed my insurance did not. After moving them to a new office, the services were completely covered by my insurance. I was not surprised at all. Fast forward to now, their new dentist is needing to extract my daughter's tooth due to "their old dentist going too deep for her filling." She will now need a spacer. My experience at this dentist office has been extremely unpleasant and it's very frustrating that we are still dealing with their mishaps. Three appointments and I was never seen by anyone but the receptionist. Visit #1: I arrive at 9am, right when they open, for my 9am appointment. They give me forms to fill out and I complete them and they ask for my insurance card and photo id. I give them my card but I had just renewed my drivers license and the dmv gives me a temporary license on paper a will mail my license to me so I give her my temp license with no photo. I explained this to the receptionist and she said I need a photo id and I'll have to reschedule so I did. Rules are rules I guess. Visit #2: Appointment at 2:45 pm and I arrive 15 minutes early and I have to do all the paperwork again because they didn't have the forms I had filled out on visit #1. About halfway through filling out the forms, the receptionist calls me up to the counter to tell me the dentist is behind and wouldn't be able to see that day even though they're open for another 2 hours! So I reschedule again. Visit #3: Appointment at 8:30am and I arrive at 8:15 with my completed paperwork. They open at 8. After waiting 45 minutes past my appointment time, 1 hour past my arrival time, I walked out. They called me to see where I was and I told her they were 45 minutes late this early in the day ! She the asked if id like to reschedule and I said I'm going somewhere else. This is unprofessional and disrespectful to expect patients to tolerate this. I'm surprised I didn't write a review the first time I was here, and shame on me for coming back here a second time. The first time I was shocked that the cleaning was only like 10 minutes (it actually was probably less than 10 minutes). I swore they had missed something or just skimmed over the cleaning since cleanings are usually at least 30 minutes. I was adamant against coming back here ever again. However, with the Covid situation, other dental locations were closed, and I really wanted to get my cleaning asap since I was a year overdue. My appointment was at noon on a Saturday, and I had to wait 40 minutes before getting started. The x rays also took a while, and one of the machines wasn't working well. Next, the dentist did a brief exam of my teeth, and then I had to go back out to the waiting room and sign a few more documents prior to getting the cleaning. When the cleaning got started, I had already been here for 1 hour and 45 minutes. This time for the cleaning portion, I paid more attention since I felt I was gypped the first time around since the cleaning was so short. I was indeed correct that Western Dental (or at least this location) skimps on the cleaning. They only do a polish and fluoride for the cleaning, NOTHING ELSE. They didn't do the plaque cleaning, tooth brushing, or flossing. I had to ASK to get the plaque cleaning done during this appointment. You all may be thinking that maybe they didn't do the scaling cuz my teeth are so clean. That is absolutely not the case. In all my years of getting cleanings, I've ALWAYS gotten the plaque cleaning done, and I'm sure most patients have some plaque that can be removed. Only when I came to this location, they didn't want to clean any of the plaque unless I brought it up. Overall, this place would be 1/5 stars for the long wait and the suboptimal cleaning procedures. The long wait may be because of Covid, but the system should be better and they should schedule less patients to minimize the wait. Or at least explain why the wait is so long and apologize for the wait. Very, very poor customer service for making patients who arrive to their appointments on time wait so long without any explanation or apology. Also very appalling that they skimp on the teeth cleaning. After the cleaning, my teeth did not feel clean/refreshed as they usually do when I get my teeth cleaned in other places. This location also does not give any goodies like a toothbrush or travel tooth paste after the visit. Boo! After reading this review, you now may be wondering why I gave two stars instead of one star. This is because yelp is amazing and had a check in offer for a free whitening kit. The front desk wasn't aware of the offer even though there was a sign about the yelp check in (another piece of evidence of the poor customer service here), but I asked another lady who was able to provide the check in goodies for me. This is the absolute last time I will be coming here. Honestly the cleaning is so bad I might as well not get my teeth cleaned at all, and at least I would be able to save 2.5 hours of my time. read more

Initial appointment was at 10am. Wasn't seen until noon. Spent two hours waiting to be seen. Was for initial x-rays, teeth cleaning, and exam. Did the x-rays, and the dentist looked at my teeth for this is no joke 30 seconds, then the assistant comes and asks "would you like your teeth cleaned today too?" and asks for payment right then. Teeth cleaning was done by a dental assistant and not an actual dental hygienist. If you care about your teeth do not go there.
