My 4 star rating on this review is 90% based on the tech that showed up for this job. Demitri was awesome and I appreciated his great attitude and professional work. I could tell that the tech had already had a long day but he arrived equipped and ready to work. He was very friendly, knowledgeable and professional. We had been having a problem with rats for a few weeks and they'd become destructive, chewing through wiring, walls and bold enough to start wandering out into the open living spaces. The problem was originating from our neighbors who leave out pet food. Our house happened to have a nice, dry, access to the very small space under the house that's not big enough to be accessed by anything bigger than a small cat. So the rats collected food from the neighbor and lived at our house where dogs and cats wouldn't bother them. The tech placed 2 large bait boxes, one along the neighbors yard/fence line, where it was obvious the rats were tunneling under from their yard, and another near the access to under our house. He also set a couple of large traps in the garage where we had seen one previously and was a direct access into the house from underneath. He had great tips on replacing bait, if needed, on the traps, and how to reset them if a rat was caught. I opted out of the repeat maintenance at the time because I wanted to see if these items would even work. The reason I can't give 5 stars for the service is because the traps that eventually caught these critters were ones we gave in and purchased at the hardware store. However, I used the techs recommendations for bait on these traps to finally catch them. I don't regret paying the hefty charge to have the service done. It was great to have the initial set up, poison/bait boxes set and the education on how to help prevent the problem in the future. It took several weeks but we have gotten rid of the problem for now. We'll continue to set our own traps to try to prevent them from ganging up on us again. I recommend the company purely based on the tech Demitri who did a great job. read more

We have used Western Exterminator Company for years and have been very satisfied. When the door knockers come around, I simply say that we aren't changing as they have been very responsive. We used to have David as our representative and he was great and subsequently promoted which was well deserved. Today we had Zac come to do a service we requested due to Elder Bugs and Zac was very thorough and gave us good information before he treated our home. I had a very frustrating experience with this service. Even though we scheduled an appointment, there was no guarantee the technician would actually show up. When they missed our original appointment, I called the office multiple times. While the staff was polite, they never followed up with new dates as promised. I also spoke directly with the technician, who suggested coming on a Saturday--which didn't work for me--but nobody reached out to propose another weekday option. Instead, I later discovered the company had scheduled me for Saturday anyway. I had to reschedule again and still don't know if they'll actually show up. On top of the poor communication, their quote for repairs was $900, whereas a handyman completed the same fix for $200. Given these issues, I plan to look for another company. read more

Beyond ridiculous customer service. Seriously shocking how BAD it is. We have been loyal customers for about 10 years, back when it was Alpha Exterminators. Since it became Western Exterminators, it has been AWFUL. The technician that comes out is lovely. She does a great job & is very nice. But if you need to reach customer "service" to ask for tech to come out in between appts, they are beyond terrible. This company cares at a higher level (meaning when you go up the chain), & the technicians care- but it doesn't make up for the non stop follow up calls I need to always make to the customer service # to find out why my appointment got changed (again) & no one told us. When you reach someone on the phone that appears to care, they don't follow through w/ what they said they'd do. All they care about is saying what you want to hear, then asking you to do a survey at end of call. I've learned a lesson- not to do anymore surveys until the action of what they say will actually happen. read more

The only good thing I can say is that the technicians have been individually knowledgeable & helpful. I was able to schedule my appts directly with my technician, who would then relay it to the office & he showed up when I was home & could unlock the gate to the backyard for him. He left the company several months ago & it's been a major headache trying to get techs to show up on my schedule, not at the whim of the company scheduling system. Anytime the 'office' was involved, there was trouble. The communication between the office & the techs didn't seem to be clear. There also seems to be a tech staffing problem. I have been with Western for several years, but this month did it for me. I had been getting the robocall reminder, which looks like a spam call until I learned to memorize the number. A tech showed up unannounced on Feb 1. I only knew about it when I got an email with a picture of my house & a service report stating that the front of the house had been treated but not the backyard because the gate was locked & the owner didn't answer the door. I had not received a reminder call, plus the service was not scheduled to take place until the end of February. There was also a charge for the half service. I called the toll-free number, & was told by the rep that he could see that my service was usually at the end of the month & he didn't know why someone had come to my house. He told me not to pay the charge & we scheduled a service for Feb 27. I got an email confirming that. Feb 27 came & I realized that I hadn't received a reminder call, so I called the toll-free number again & was told that my service had been moved to the next day. Unhappily, I moved my schedule around so I could be available. No tech showed up on Feb 28....no text, no email, no phone call, no nothin'. I called the toll-free number again & was told by Bridget that it was after 5 so she couldn't contact the tech. I asked to speak to a manager & was told the same thing. I then said to just cancel my service & I wanted a manager to call me back. No call from Feb 28 - Mar 4, but on Mar 4, I get another email from the tech, with a picture of my house, saying that he had been able to get in the backyard & perform the rest of the service. He got in because there were roofers working there! Again, no call or any advance notification of any kind. When I called the toll-free number again, the service rep said there were no notes about canceling my account, or that I requested a call from a local manager. This is all very frustrating & disappointing. I have since found an actual LOCAL pest control person who answers his own phone & schedules his own appointments. read more

As far as I can tell this company is a scam. It says "your local" pest control company. When u call the 360 phone, you're put through to a National number. They take a message, and maybe you get called back. Eventually got a technician out to my home to deal with a simple mole issue. They ended up up selling me to an entire pest control package. A year later my pest issue has gotten worse, and the mole is still tearing up my yard. Cost me over $1000.00 in services. Am working with Credit card company to either dispute charge or get them to provide service paid for. I'd highly recommend avoiding this company as they will bill u for services not provided. I'm reporting them to WA state Attorney Generals office, as I've now read very similar complaints and concerns. Buyer beware. read more

This company is impossible to work with. I own a property management company, so we send out hundreds of vendors to our properties. This is the only company I have issues with. They don't send out invoices regularly, but instead I get demand emails for payment with no details about the address or services, when we haven't received an initial invoice. I have talked to so many people in their offices, but we still can't get invoices sent. Instead, they send you to collections. I am currently in dispute over three collections. We always pay our vendors on time. This company refuses to clean up their billing department. Demanding payment for services, but without telling you what services you have done, is not good business. It makes me wonder if we are getting scammed by them. They figure we are big enough that we will just pay without asking questions. I have instructed all of our property managers to never use them again. There are plenty of good pest control companies out there. This is not one of them. read more

Am a fairly new customer and have had good service up until now September 2022. My service person I had up until September was great and I didn't have to worry about her checking for mice, etc. My last service person told me he did not have to go into my crawl space as all the mouse traps were at the door and if no mice were in the traps then that is all I get. Also the last service person was not told by the previous service person they put three mouse traps in my tool shed. If the previous service person does not write down on their report where my bait boxes are, crawl space is, tool shed is, etc. then the next service person doesn't have to look for anything. You need to be home when they come to make sure they do their job. When they are done with their inspection these service perople it longer in their car making up a report than they did on your inspection. They note on it customer wasn't home for signing their report and I have been home everytime. Have been told via email that someone will contact me in 24 to 48 hours. So far that hasn't happened. The head office needs to be looking into what their field office are doing. So think I will be looking for a new Exterminator Comany. read more

The only thing good I've got to say about this company: Every employee I've interacted with has been individually knowledgeable and helpful. That being said, the corporate environment they're working under is completely incompetent. Employees are dispatched without accurate notification to the client and lacking necessary information on what tools are needed in order to get the job done. The quote system doesn't allow for options or provide space for clear description/breakdown of proposed services. The maintenance contract is an assumed default, and if you read the fine print it requires 60 days notice to cancel. A month and a half after having signed a proposal for exclusion service on my crawl space, the job is still only (at most) half done, that much wasn't done according to the signed proposal, and they're trying to bill me for complete service. Highlights of this adventure include: No-show for first service appointment. Second try, the employee looked at the project to be done and concluded that they weren't the right person to do it. Third try at least got the vents sealed (not replaced per quote) but nothing on the access hatch. There was supposed to be a fourth round for the hatch, but I've gotten no contact about scheduling that despite having sent an email to three employees querying it. Zero of the automated notifications of service date have been accurate - one was for the no-show, and second round notice had the wrong date. I knew when to expect the 2nd & 3rd round staff only because I had specifically asked my contact person for that information and got it through direct personal channels. I assume that the company might be ok for ongoing service, but don't even think about trying to get a one-off repair/sealing job from them! read more

Their technicians are knowledgeable, but the overall customer service is atrocious. The techs have showed up twice unannounced and insisted that we were notified the day before. The problem is three-fold - Someone high up in the organization decided it would be OK for them to use a robocalling service to notify of the service visit. So no caller ID as Western Exterminators Company (the call looks like spam). - Someone high up in the organization also thought it would be OK for their robocalling system to not leave voice mail in case of no answer. - And someone high up in the organization decided it would be OK for them to discontinue email notifications about service appointments. Get the drift? The company is either strapped or clueless. The original exterminator I hired was acquired by someone, and that someone was acquired by Western, and Western seems to have forgotten about asking customers what they need. read more

I was charged $275 and was supposed to receive a $50 discount after calling several times they said it would be refunded but I have not seen it yet and it's been over a month. Now I just was charged another $45 for I don't even know what they haven't been here again. I've tried to call but all I can do is leave a message. I just moved to a new home in North Carolina. I left Portland, OR a year ago, so I haven't been able to utilize the services of Western Exterminators and especially my assigned specialist, Paul Peters. However, my new home has a bit of a wasp problem. My first move was to reach out to Mr. Peters directly to ask if there are any Western Exterminator affiliates serving my new area, because I had such a good experience having Paul protect my last home in portland from all sorts of pesky bugs. Fortunately for me, Paul not only referred me to Erlich Pest Control, he actually went out of his way to contact them on my behalf, on a Saturday, so that by the time they called me they were already aware of the situation. They even gave me a nice little discount. I can't afford to fly Paul across the country for quarterly treatments, but this is the next best thing! I just got off of the phone with the rep. from Erlich Pest and have my first visit scheduled in two days. It's pretty rare that an employee goes this above and beyond for customers. I'd be less surprised if Paul owned the business, but to truly care this much for someone else's customers is rare these days. As a small business owner myself, I only wish I could find an employee like Paul. If he ever wants to leave Oregon, I'd happily hire him to train dogs for my company! Thanks Paul! read more

One day when I was loading stuff into the sliding door of my van, which is parked next to the garage, I felt something really hurting on the back of my leg. Really hurting! Within a couple of hours the entire back of my leg was swollen, with red welts everywhere. My husband checked outside and found that there was a previously unnoticed nest of hornets right down near the ground, next to where I park my car. Yikes! It was on a Saturday, but I called Alpha after reading the very positive review here. I loved that they're ecologically friendly. The very pleasant lady told me that they could get out over the weekend but that it'd cost extra (totally understandable), but I decided to wait till Monday. I then spoke with a really nice man who does the scheduling, and once he heard that I'd been stung so many times told me they'd get out there right away on Monday. I loved that he was concerned about my physical well-being. He scheduled me for 3 p.m., and in the meantime, I just parked my car away from the nest. About 11 a.m., I got a call from Justin, the tech guy, who said he was already in the area and could come out right away if that was okay. Absolutely! He was here within five minutes and assessed the situation. Then he put on his bee suit (we used to keep bees so that was fun to see) and got to work. We actually had two areas where hornets were building nests, and he eliminated both nests. He dusted and sprayed the nest in the carport and in the downstairs office area. The invoice he provided us showed a diagram of the house showing where he sprayed. He also walked around to make sure there were no other nests. From start to finish, this was a great experience for us (well, except for the stings!) with Alpha Ecological. Everyone I talked to was friendly and helpful, and I can highly recommend this company. James who is an inspector came to my house unannounced and had horrible customer service after banging on my front door repeatedly at which point I did not feel comfortable with him coming into my home. He then called me afterwards and proceeded to be incredibly disrespectful and unprofessional stating he won't be coming back and to "find someone else to do it" and hung up on me. He then sped off in his car very loudly outside of our home. Very disappointed in the customer service and the amount of disrespect he had towards myself and my family's home. I hired this company to clear rats from an infested, neglected & overgrown neighbor's house and to eradicate ants that were invading the kitchen. They set bait stations for the rats around the perimeter but I still kept seeing them in the yard at night. I finally purchased a case of Irish Spring soap & put a bar every 5 feet around the yard & fencing, especially near their den, under our shed & that worked better than anything else. Also, they kept treating & retreating for ants but I still saw them until I ordered the Terro baits from amazon, & after 2 days on the counter, I haven't seen another ant in over a month now. I also had a seasonal issue with flying meat-eating bastards otherwise known as Yellowjackets, Hornets & Wasps...my technician placed a bag on my fence which did draw many of the above, PLUS flies, however, they wanted to charge $12 for the next bag, which I could purchase at my local hardware store for $6 & hang them about the yard on my own. My two technicians were always pleasant, professional & polite but I could no longer justify $45/month for issues that I was finally able to resolve on my own for just a few dollars. Would I hire this company again if necessary? Yes, probably. Would I recommend them? Yes, but only after giving my own self-help experiences for ants & rats & flying assholes. read more

Having to call an exterminator is frustrating and worrisome. If you have to, don't hesitate to call Western Exterminator!! We have been dealing with a pest control issue for two months. Another company came out before Western did and did a horrible job. We had the pleasure of working with a tech named Sam today and couldn't be more happy with his work and level of customer service. I even had a tech guy to lie on his paperwork that he checked my home inside, my crawl space and I wasn't even at home. They over charge you and then promise they will make up for the "mistakes" they made and they do it all over again. A Bigger problem than their inability to control the pests! I called and asked to speak with a manager and repeatedly, I was stonewalled by the receptionist. I did speak with Tom who identified himself as the Sales Rep. he was extremely sympathetic to my situation, he assured me a call to me would be made by the service manager and all would be resolved to my satisfaction on a timeline that worked for me. I felt like I was making progress. However that was Tuesday and after no call on Wednesday,(frustrating) I get a call this am Thursday at 7:54. I awoke to Steve the Service Managers phone call. He was notable unhappy with me after some previous interaction over the phone with his assistant manager. He stated "I was told to call you something about ants." I began to convey my frustration and he began to raise his voice and push back at my regarding my experience. The phone call became volatile and Steve hung up on me. The problem with asking them to do Pest control. Having spent $250.00 for what was described to me as " a whole house inspection and treatment for ants." The Team from Alpha Ecological Pest Control arrived and spent less than 45 min/ at the house 4100sf before they asked me to come view the photos they had taken in our crawl space. I agreed. The intent on their end is to show me rodent entrance points and sell me on a rodent treatment plan. I again was looking for the ANTS to be treated for. I had Alpha come out in May-June of 2013 to investigate a mouse problem. They found that not only had mice moved in, but now rats were there as well. They took pictures and explained the work they recommended. It was a bit expensive ($3000) relative to other places, but they were highly rated so I felt it was worth the expense. Now in December, I was disappointed to hear mice in the walls again. I called Alpha and they had someone come out almost immediately. There was some confusion due to a maintenance plan that hadn't been set up correctly and I was looking at another $2000 to resolve. I was able to speak with multiple people in the company who each listened to the situation and understood where I was coming from and in the end agreed that they would take care of the issue cost-free plus provide additional supplies for no cost as an apology. Their quick response, consideration and high level of service is greatly appreciated. read more
