The East is rising. West? Over.

The East is pretty fashionable. The West? Over. It's so yesterday. This market proves it. It honestly doesn't surprise me to see independent little grocery stores like this thriving in Northern Virginia. It's a very liberal and socially conscious part of the world - even though it can be oppressive in terms of traffic, and not being the friendliest place on Earth. So I'm a big supporter of this place even though the prices are not dirt cheap. They sell some pretty good stuff and I would certainly shop here if I lived in Arlington.

Westover Market's "Wall of Beer" is one of the great man made wonders of the world. One trip to this small independent, family owned shop and you'll be transported to exotic locales beyond your wildest desires...at least in liquid format. The friendly and knowledgeable staff are your personal travel agents to the fun and exciting land of barley and hops. After a visit to the wall of beer, you can relax in their outdoor beer garden which has a laid-back Brooklyn vibe. You can grab a bulgogi sub (courtesy of the manager's mother), catch some rays and just kick back with a nice cold brew. It truly is a neighbor hood gathering spot and they take make an effort to make you want to spend your weekend afternoons just lounging here with their mister fans in the summer and heaters in the winter. You probably won't be able to find the new chocolate dipped, triple stuffed Oreos here but you may stumble across some new and interesting finds such as pomegranate hibiscus ginger ale or Hello Kitty gummy snacks from Japan. Warm and eclectic this place is a sure winner!

Really great market run by even better people. Picked up a few things from the market and decided to grab lunch at the deli. Had a delicious Cuban sando. This is the type of place that everyone in the area really appreciates being there, check it out.

It's always sunny with beer goggles on.

Well seasoned with a good crunch. The steak and cheese for me was a mixed bag...I saw my food coming and was dumbfounded by how big the bread was, and I didn't see any meat popping out. Pulled the sandwich open and saw what little meat I got. For $12.95, I feel a little ripped off. Especially when places like The Broiler and George's Steak and Things offer similar prices with an astoundingly higher meat in the meat to bread ratio. What little of the meat was available was delicious. I wish I had gotten a sub-$13 worth, not barely $7.65. Not sure I could come back. With how much I paid, it felt like a diminished return. And if I did come back, I'd hope the other offerings, like the breakfast sandwich, burger, and pulled pork, offer a better meat-to-bread ratio.

The flavors are good--slightly sweet but savory meat that is easy to pull apart. I also ordered an add on of short rib on the side, and for $5.50, it was a rather small portion. It comes in a cute box and the staff was super nice and offered water while I waited for my order. It's located in the Ballston Quarter food court area.

Hi everyone, just wanted to leave a review of German Gourmet on Columbia Pike…read more Before I begin, I want to identify what the ingredients are for a classic Reuben. You'll need two slices of seeded or marble rye bread, about six ounces of thinly sliced corned beef or pastrami, two slices of sharp Swiss cheese, roughly a quarter cup of well-drained sauerkraut, and two tablespoons of Russian or Thousand Island dressing. A little butter for toasting the bread and optional spicy brown mustard round it out. That said, what I actually received was the absolute worst Reuben I've ever had in my entire life. They used ham instead of corned beef or pastrami, an insult to the name. The Swiss was bland and low-quality, not sharp at all. There was no mustard, barely any Thousand Island, and I couldn't even detect any sauerkraut. The bread wasn't toasted, and they still charged me $12.50 with tax. If this is what passes for a Reuben at a supposed German delicatessen, save your money and go somewhere that actually knows what they're doing.

They've got an excellent selection of brats and sausages, salamis, cheeses, pierogis, German novelty items, chocolates, and--of course--wine! The only downside? Not all staff seem familiar with German specialty foods. I actually asked about pierogis and was told they didn't know what they were... until I stumbled across them in the freezer myself. ‍ and BTW... the potato onion had a nice pepper flavoring. Still, the variety and authenticity make it worth the trip--just be prepared to browse and discover some gems on your own. Perfect for all your Oktoberfest cravings!

It only took a quick 10 minutes to receive our entire order, which was 3 burgers, a crispy fried chicken sandwich, loaded fries, and 2 milkshakes! I was very happy with how efficient the service was and the most important part, how delicious every bite was! The smashburgers are made with 100% halal beef and they come out HOT with perfectly crispy edges on the patties and a juicy center. We ordered 3 burgers and each of them stood out in their own way. You can get a single, double, or triple patty burger and add whatever toppings to it too. The jalapeño burger was the star of the show, it had a such a nice and spicy kick to it. I wasn't expecting much but this burger had HEAT! Another favorite was the Juicy Lucy. It was packed with grilled onions and the patty was stuffed with cheddar cheese. A super messy and cheesy option that was definitely worth every bite! I liked that Jon's Joint offered other options too such as loaded fries and fried chicken sandwiches. What I found unique is that for the loaded fries, you can get it with falafel and make it spicy! This time, they had run out of the falafel so I am excited to try it next time. If you're in Arlington and craving a casual burger spot, you need to go to Jon's Joint. You'll get quick service and a delicious meal!

You can tell the owner is really into Superheroes. I ordered the grilled chicken. The good thing is that it is cooked to order. Loved that. Downside, no seasoning, AT ALL. This would be fine, I understand dietary considerations with sodium. What had me perplexed was they had NO PEPPER in the entire restaurant. I've NEVER been at a restaurant that didn't have any pepper. Plenty of salt, seasoned salt and even more salt. No pepper. Burgers seem to be popular. Wasn't very crowded, but seemed popular by locals. It was a "meh" for me. I do however really like that the food is cooked to order.

Love this place!…read more Whenever I go to Earl's Sandwiches, they always serve good sandwiches. Always a decent value for the quality sandwiches they sell and everything packed within two slices of bread, especially the meats! The meats are baked--prepared in house, so you know you're in for some good eats. My all time favorite here is the House Roasted Turkey Club! When I tell you this sandwich is stacked!....its an understatement. The turkey is house roasted and piled high.....And, so tender and juicy. This sandwich is a must try and I recommend. During lunch time frames, it could get busy but it is worth it. Wait times and queuing can be a bit long but it's fine for the sandwiches I get. Also, online ordering is available which help when you don't have time to wait. Not to mention, they provide an online tracker that lets you know when your order is almost ready or available which is very helpful when picking up your order online. It's very helpful when strap for time and you are in need for something quick or planning a drive to their shop. In all, you can't go wrong with this place. The vibe is casual. The interior is minimal and seating limited, but the sandwiches are on point. Definitely try this place when in the area or in the mood for a great "sammie"....upgraded from the days when your Mom used to brown paper bag it and make them for school lunch days! lol Eating here just gives me those kind of feels...... The first thing that caught my attention was a family photo displayed on the cashier counter. That detail alone set the tone and gave the place a sense of authenticity that you don't often see. I also noticed they sell Nongshim shrimp crackers in a few different flavors, along with other snacks, which added to the casual, neighborhood feel. This was my first visit, and I ordered the Banh Mi sandwich. I'd rate it a 6 out of 10. The sandwich had a generous amount of bread almost too much while the beef portion was very minimal. The vegetables, on the other hand, were plentiful and made up most of the sandwich, which I didn't mind. Flavor-wise, it was solid. The sandwich wasn't warm, but that didn't bother me much, and overall it had enough seasoning and freshness to be enjoyable. One downside was the way the sandwich was assembled the meat sat at the bottom, which caused the bread to get soggy, so I ended up eating it upside down. Not ideal, but manageable. The restaurant has a few booths available for dine-in around five from what I could tell so there is limited seating if you choose to eat there. The food itself honestly felt more like something you'd get from a food truck rather than a traditional sit-down restaurant. That said, the signage does emphasize "street food," so in that context, it makes sense. This feels like a quick-eats type of place rather than a destination dining experience. Overall, it's a straightforward, casual spot with clear roots in Vietnamese street food culture. I'd consider coming back, but I'd likely try something different next time.
