The East is rising. West? Over.

The East is pretty fashionable. The West? Over. It's so yesterday. This market proves it. It honestly doesn't surprise me to see independent little grocery stores like this thriving in Northern Virginia. It's a very liberal and socially conscious part of the world - even though it can be oppressive in terms of traffic, and not being the friendliest place on Earth. So I'm a big supporter of this place even though the prices are not dirt cheap. They sell some pretty good stuff and I would certainly shop here if I lived in Arlington.

Westover Market's "Wall of Beer" is one of the great man made wonders of the world. One trip to this small independent, family owned shop and you'll be transported to exotic locales beyond your wildest desires...at least in liquid format. The friendly and knowledgeable staff are your personal travel agents to the fun and exciting land of barley and hops. After a visit to the wall of beer, you can relax in their outdoor beer garden which has a laid-back Brooklyn vibe. You can grab a bulgogi sub (courtesy of the manager's mother), catch some rays and just kick back with a nice cold brew. It truly is a neighbor hood gathering spot and they take make an effort to make you want to spend your weekend afternoons just lounging here with their mister fans in the summer and heaters in the winter. You probably won't be able to find the new chocolate dipped, triple stuffed Oreos here but you may stumble across some new and interesting finds such as pomegranate hibiscus ginger ale or Hello Kitty gummy snacks from Japan. Warm and eclectic this place is a sure winner!

Really great market run by even better people. Picked up a few things from the market and decided to grab lunch at the deli. Had a delicious Cuban sando. This is the type of place that everyone in the area really appreciates being there, check it out.

It's always sunny with beer goggles on.

It only took a quick 10 minutes to receive our entire order, which was 3 burgers, a crispy fried chicken sandwich, loaded fries, and 2 milkshakes! I was very happy with how efficient the service was and the most important part, how delicious every bite was! The smashburgers are made with 100% halal beef and they come out HOT with perfectly crispy edges on the patties and a juicy center. We ordered 3 burgers and each of them stood out in their own way. You can get a single, double, or triple patty burger and add whatever toppings to it too. The jalapeño burger was the star of the show, it had a such a nice and spicy kick to it. I wasn't expecting much but this burger had HEAT! Another favorite was the Juicy Lucy. It was packed with grilled onions and the patty was stuffed with cheddar cheese. A super messy and cheesy option that was definitely worth every bite! I liked that Jon's Joint offered other options too such as loaded fries and fried chicken sandwiches. What I found unique is that for the loaded fries, you can get it with falafel and make it spicy! This time, they had run out of the falafel so I am excited to try it next time. If you're in Arlington and craving a casual burger spot, you need to go to Jon's Joint. You'll get quick service and a delicious meal!

You can tell the owner is really into Superheroes. I ordered the grilled chicken. The good thing is that it is cooked to order. Loved that. Downside, no seasoning, AT ALL. This would be fine, I understand dietary considerations with sodium. What had me perplexed was they had NO PEPPER in the entire restaurant. I've NEVER been at a restaurant that didn't have any pepper. Plenty of salt, seasoned salt and even more salt. No pepper. Burgers seem to be popular. Wasn't very crowded, but seemed popular by locals. It was a "meh" for me. I do however really like that the food is cooked to order.

So glad that we decided to check it out because DANG this banh mi is good. I wouldn't even consider myself a banh mi fanatic but maybe it's because I haven't had good banh mi like this! I got myself the Nem Nuong (pork sausage) and David the Signature (pork belly, ham, bologna) to go. They offered to put the veggies (cucumber, radish/carrot, jalapeno, cilantro) on the side which I did. While I didn't try the Signature, David said it was the best banh mi he's had in the DMV and it reminded him of his hometown near Little Saigon, Orange County CA. The Nem Nuong was amazing, highly recommend. The pork sausage was so flavorful and the side of scallion fish sauce oil that they gave on the side really mixed well with the flavors. My only critique is that I wish they didn't chop the sausage into huge chunks but made them more flat so that it would distribute more evenly in the sandwich. THE BREAD. Can we have a moment for the bread. Perfectly crunchy and flaky when you bite down, yet cloud-like and super soft on the inside. So sad that I didn't get more because there were definitely others that I wanted to try. I also saw that they had good looking drinks (one that looked like a Vietnamese coffee with a pandan cream on top) which I will definitely be trying out next time. Definitely reminded me of the cafes you'd find in SoCal. Not much seating inside, as the tables were full when we got there, but even to go was top notch.

I'm happy to say I was completely wrong. The bread is baked fresh and has the perfect crisp exterior with a soft interior. We usually rotate between the signature bánh mì, pâté, and steamed pork, and they've all been consistently excellent. Pair one with their crème coffee or matcha latte, and it's an easy lunch. It's become our go-to spot, and I've brought sandwiches back to the office for coworkers more times than I can count. Everyone has been impressed. The only downside is the parking at Eden Center, which can be frustrating. Thankfully, pickup is quick and well organized once you make it there. If you're craving a great bánh mì in Northern Virginia, this place absolutely lives up to the reputation.

We liked the pork banh mi but we added banchan sauce with it (at home). The pork was fatty and filling, and they definitely did not skimp! We also got an Italian filled with the works of banana peppers, pepperoni, ham, salami, lettuce, (red wine?) vinegar--very aesthetic and a great standard sub. Italian meatball looked rough but it was filled with meat and cheese--also delicious. Reuben was filled with meat and a buttery sandwich slice. Plus their seasonal soup was butternut squash soup--sweet and creamy. Good solid sandwich shop with the classics, the works, as well as some sandwiches for the slightly more adventurous. Super nice people and efficient. They tried to call me about my brioche bun not being available but I did not get the call. It was nice of them to let me know!
