I have been coming to Westport Dental for 3 years now and really like the staff. I have a crazy work schedule and they are very accommodating when I have to switch appointments or if I am in a time crunch they are always quick and very thorough. I used to be very anxious at the dentist but they are great helping you to breathe and relax and they are very patient and gentil. There are also no high pressure sales like some dentist do and do extreme up charges. They are reasonable and honest. It is very clean and nicely decorated and I especially love the ceiling tiles and tvs to distract you or entertain you while you get numb. It's a great place if you need a dentist. read more

First off let me say, when I was called back after using the contact us form on the website I was pleasantly surprised by the great attitude I was greeted with. I felt happy to talk to the person on the phone even while I was in the middle of work. I received all documents pre appointment via the portal in a text without having any issues filling it out. Super easy and clear. Upon arriving I was greeted by name which is nice to know that they keep on top of who they are seeing. Not super important but a nice touch. I know medical practices can get busy. I was called back in a timely manner and again everyone was super friendly and we chatted a little. Then Dr Woo came and made me feel so much better about my teeth! I haven't been to a dentist in years and so I was worried about the damage I may have done. However Dr Woo explained everything so clearly and she was so nice! I felt good at the dentist for the first time in a long time. There is some work to be done but I don't feel so scared about it. She also is very personable and took time just to get to know me. I know ultimately the care provided is what is important but it was just the extra care in me as a person that sold me on becoming a regular patient for my dental needs. After the Dr spent time helping me and doing the cleaning they took X-rays and let me tell you this is the first practice I have not had pain. I have Mandibular Tori which makes X-rays difficult and every other office has always struggled. Not here! I had no issue because they took it into account when setting me up. Finally I had someone come over (sadly I can't remember her name) and talk me through my insurance coverage. Which is soooo helpful, I'm on Medi-cal and struggling. I need help and they made it super easy for me to navigate all of it. Another extra mile effort that I loved. When I left I also had a fun convo with the front desk as I was making my appointment. Everyone was just so nice and the Dr really sat down with me and not only made me feel comfortable with trusting them to treat me but also with understanding the health of my teeth! I have a terrible history with dental visits since I was a kid, and my dental anxiety is no joke. I waited 7+ years from my last dentist experience before deciding it was time to find someone new to work on my teeth. I needed someone who was patient, understanding, and overall could help a patient like me who's anxious just showing up sometimes. I found this dentistry off Yelp and decided to give them a visit. I've had 3 appointments so far, and each time has been great. Although I still have huge dental anxiety, the staff has been so patient and understanding. They're super comforting and even when they're giving me numbing shots (the absolute worst and scariest IMO), they're so caring and when I start to cry or get nervous, they always cheer me on with "you're almost done" or "you're doing so good"; which sounds so silly for an adult to hear but ya girl needs the encouragement to stay strong a little longer. I trust the dentists and their staff so much. They're always chatting about life and truly seem to care about their patients which I love. They seem knowledgeable, and even when I'm acting like a kid and asking what everything is and what they're doing and where things go, they don't judge me for all my questions and they answer everything so kindly. As difficult as my appointments have been (because 7+ years away from dentists can cause a wreck in your teeth), the staff has been so friendly and I've been really happy with the service and care they provide. I would recommend this location and dental office to anyone looking for a dentist and has dental anxiety, just like me! I stumbled upon Westport Dental while on the phone with my HMO provider, desperately searching for a local dentist to address my immediate needs. Most of my dental work is handled by an out of country dentist (see my previous reviews) but for routine tasks like cleanings and cavities, I needed someone closer to home. My experiences with local dentists have been mixed, with suspicions of some resorting to what seems like "quiet quitting" when faced with a mouth full of previous work, and or unnecessary recommendations, possibly assuming I have money to spare due to my history of comprehensive dental work in Mexico. My unique challenge involves dry mouth caused by medications, leading to cavities at the gumline. Needing urgent attention before my insurance changed at year-end, I went to a local dentist, and things took an unexpected turn when I was told I needed six root canals. This dentist didn't accept my Medicare Advantage HMO Dental plan, leading to a chain of events involving another dental office who gaslit me by denying that I had dental coverage when I did and then proceeded to charge me nearly $2000 for work that should have been charged to Medi-Cal and/or needed a prior autorization and/or didn't need to be done (a full mouth of deep cleaning should NOT take less than an hour and upcharging for use of a laser by $800 without telling me ahead of time is really bad form), charging me for dental work not yet done, then cancelling the appointment to get said work done when I questioned the billing was bad form and left me in a bind to find someone to just fill my teeth and not take me for a ride. You know who you are and you know what you did. I won't put you on blast here, this isn't about you and your practice it's about Westport Dental. Fast forward to my search through Yelp while on the phone with Medi-Cal, and I stumbled upon Westport Dental. After going down the list of available dentists who all had 3-stars or less, I was amazed by their exceptional rating and positive reviews, I decided to check them out. Although they initially didn't accept my HMO, the staff at Westport Dental went above and beyond to accommodate me, signing up to accept my insurance to ensure I could get the work done promptly. Having been through such a difficult time with other local dentists I was petrified to say or do something that would have them worried that I would be a problem patient, but I needed have worried. I truly am not a problem patient, but I do suffer from anxiety due to the previous experiences I have had over the years. During my visits in early and late December, I appreciated that they didn't ask to do yet another whole mouth of x-rays. I knew what I needed done, fillings on my front teeth. I had explained that I had a cosmetic dentist whom I had been going to for the past 6 years and he is responsible for the majority of work in my mouth, and they not only respected this, they complimented his work (it really is good work), but at the very least they didn't try and put down the work done because it was done in Mexico. Dr. Woo took her time to explain the procedure and address my concerns. I was particularly impressed by her anatomical understanding, injecting novocaine strategically to ensure effectiveness and even going so far as to reccomend a pre-treatment regime for the next time to ensure that the novicaine worked effectively. My medication makes me hard to numb and keep numb long enough to get the work done unless the dentist knows how medications interact with novocaine. While I needed four teeth filled, not the six root canals initially suggested by the first dentist in November, the team at Westport Dental was transparent about the process and pricing. Despite spending close to $1000, I didn't feel pressured or upsold. The dentist's suggestion to apply a sealant over the fillings was a new approach to protect against the recurring issue of white fillings eroding over time, a concern I hadn't encountered with previous dentists. Westport Dental's commitment to honesty, conservative yet thorough work, and genuine solutions to my dental issues left a lasting impression. Despite my insurance changing next year, I am eager to continue my dental care with them, and I've already recommended Westport Dental to friends. Their dedication to quality work is a refreshing change from my past experiences, and I'm relieved to have found a trustworthy local dentist. I have contemplated writing a review about my experience but after talking with multiple friends in the dental industry, multiple dentists, family, and friends in unrelated industries, I was encouraged to speak out. On June 14, 2021, I went to Westport Dental to get one root canal done. I've been a patient here for at least 2 years and had built a good rapport with the previous doctor, Dr. Ly Ho. I felt comfortable and safe here. I'm not normally good with dentists because of their crass approach and lack of patient support but Dr. Ly Ho was a really good dentist. Sadly, she sold her business. The new doctors, Dr. Woo and Dr. Awad, are the current dentist doctors on site. I had met with Dr. Woo beforehand for a cleaning/inspection of cracked molars that had led toward the appointment for the root canals. I received a call Friday evening, June 11, 2021 from Dr. Woo telling me that she was working on my root canal plan, that one root canal would be done on Monday because doing two would be too much work on me. I appreciated and thanked for her call after-hours and for her sensitivity toward me. I was also under the impression that Dr. Woo was going to be doing my root canal since she was the one talking to me. My assumption. On June 14, 2021, I went to Westport Dental to get one root canal done. I walked in at 10:30 am. I'm giving them a 30 minute grace period for paperwork and to get everything set up. I walked out of the dentist at 3:30 pm. I got 2 root canals done. Dr. Awad did my root canals. She was completely silent the entire time. She told me ONE time what she was doing and this was after I had a panic attack and had to pee and was crying at her. I've never had this treatment before in my life. I had to pee multiple times for a 4.5 hour chair appointment and I was treated like it was a huge inconvenience every single time Dr. Awad had to remove and re-do the dental dam. When I was leaving, I had to ask for pain medication and antibiotics. I was given pain medication, no antibiotic. I was just out of it. The next day, June 15, 2021, I called Dr. Woo to complain about the lack of patient support from Dr. Awad. The most prominent words I can hear from Dr. Woo is "I'M SORRY THAT YOU FEEL THAT WAY." And she said this multiple times in our conversation. June 16, 2021, I could finally feel some pressure in my mouth. The pain was immense. I called the dentist. I needed antibiotics. I mean, I would think for someone who wrote out her history chart very thoroughly, that she has lupus, a history of blood thinners, a history of strokes, that you would take better care of your patients? Why bother even giving that to your patients to fill out if this is something to not take into consideration? I could also feel that the build-up was very sharp and rubbing against my tongue. I was developing irritation bumps along my tongue. I had to go back that day to get my prescription of antibiotics and for Dr. Woo to shave down the build up so my tongue wasn't feeling so irritated. Friday, June 18, 2021. I gave up on Westport. The pain has finally receded after the root canals. 5 whole days. Wow. I'm noticing that the build up was done very poorly, it was not contoured to around my top teeth so I was constantly bumping/grinding down on it. At this point, I am so disgusted with Westport. I go to my other dentist doctor who did my bridge. He does the work. I am out in less than 30 minutes. The xrays showed that Dr. Awad DID do a good job with the root canals but everything else in relation to a visit to the dentist was grossly and largely fucked. It was a fucked experience. I used to recommend Westport to many people but on good conscience, I can only tell people to avoid. Good root canals done. Terrible build up. Terrible patient support. Terrible communication. Terrible energy. "I'm sorry that you feel that way" is NOT an apology. read more
