If you need a break from Vail's boutique restaurant scene, or a solid meal as you are traveling through town this is great place. Whether or not you're staying at the attached hotel, you need to make it a priority to visit Westside Cafe and Market on your next trip to Vail. We were told by three different strangers we chatted up throughout the day that we couldn't leave without stopping here. With that kind of press, how could we pass it up? We ended up being in a bit of a rush in the morning, so we opted to get our orders to go. You can order anything off of their menu to go, but it will take some time before your meal is ready. If you need more 'grab and go' options, they have massive cinnamon rolls, pastries, bagels and schmear, and breakfast sandwiches. Don't forget a full coffee bar and a fridge section with water, soda, and juice. We ordered an everything bagel with honey walnut schmear and a breakfast sandwich with bison, egg, american cheese on an everything bagel. The honey walnut spread is absolutely delicious. There are actually chunks of walnut, so if you prefer your peanut butter creamy, this might not be the one for you. I, however, found it to be magical. I was a little disappointed with the breakfast sandwich. We had the tiniest little strip of bison meat across the entire bagel. It was like a slice of meat you'd find in a fajita. But just one. I know bison is getting harder to source, but I would have gladly paid extra for one more piece. Otherwise, my egg and cheese sandwich was satisfying. If you do decide to dine in this quaint, rustic paradise with a view of the mountains, be sure to arrive early or put your name on the wait list via the Yelp app. There aren't many tables, or big tables for that matter, so be prepared to wait. However, I'm sure you'll pass the time just fine with the gorgeous view! Overall, great experience. I ordered a chocolate chip waffle and a side of bacon. My husband ordered the farmers omelette with sourdough. The waffle was delicious and rich - I couldn't finish. Overall the food here is absolutely amazing! The fact that you can get mixed styles of the egg Benedict makes it a real dining experience. You can get everything from chicken and waffles eggs Benedict to south of the border pulled pork, or even bison! I also got the chicken fried steak and dipped it in gravy and it was one of the best I've ever had. Only downside of this place was the wait is very long here on Saturday morning, probably an hour and a half even though they said it was going to take 35 minutes to be seated. Food was definitely five stars, service was great! We decided to drop in after our elevation sickness was getting the best of us. Figured a bowl of soup would do the trick. The place in itself is nice and the French onion soup was good but I don't know what to think of the customer service. The waiter almost seemed annoyed when he first greeted us and did not want to make any small talk. Kind of weird when on the front cover of their menu they talk about how they pride themselves in excellent customer service. He didn't talk to us much at all during our meal and never came by to fill our waters. The only time he asked if we were okay was after he brought us our check and then seemed almost friendly then. Westside is like the Snooze of Vail. It's tremendously delicious and downright affordable! Yes, prepare to wait. Even during off-season the place was bustling. We waited around 20 minutes just before 11:00. The food was incredible though. I had the Veggie Benedict which was loaded with spinach, tomato, avocado, and asparagus- dressed with a delicious balsamic and hollandaise that mixed together beautifully and created a lovely cream sauce for the dish. All this goodness was piled atop two polenta cakes that were SO good. And BONUS- they're gluten free! Hubs is loath to order anything that starts with "Veggie" but he even agreed that it was fantastic and I had again ordered better than he. Yea! Of course his was good too. Hubs had the pulled pork benedict and the meat had a wonderful smoky flavor. I thought the pork was a tad dry but Hubs didn't seem to think so. (Could have been my bite.) Methinks he was a wee bit jealous of my polenta cakes. I think he enjoyed his biscuits, but he stared dreamily at my cakes. As most have stated, portions are generous. We left full and happy. They are famous for their bloody merry which I tried and was really good and it came with a small glass of beer too! This is an amazing brunch spot. I came here with the family while we were on a mini Vacation. I got the the toad in a hole, my brother got the chicken and waffles. There was a local artist singing for the crowd while everyone was chowing down. It was beautiful cozy restaurant with a beautiful view of the mountains. We were seated after a brief wait. The toad in a hole was so tasty. I have never thought about mixing my eggs and toast with sausage. It was delicious. My little brother's chicken and waffles was just as good. Called in and placed a pick up order of the BLAT and Meatloaf Sandwich. Told it would be ready in 30. So I showed up early paid for the food then sat down at bar for a bloody. At thirty minutes, food still wasn't ready. At 40 they told me they gave the order to another customer but they would refund the money and make immediately. After another 15 minutes I asked what was going on with the order. The girls, who was very nice, went back and checked with the kitchen. She came back and said it'll be another 10-15. Neither of the items need to be cooked. So not really sure why the order couldn't be made in 5-7 mins. Anyway...you win I quit. I've been here for breakfast before and really enjoyed the food. There's always a long wait in the mornings. Today we can for lunch. I guess we should have been concerned when the restaurant was less than half full. Our food took 35min to come out and so did all the people's around us, and like I said, there was hardly anyone in the restaurant. There was also almost 1 waiter per table yet a waiter came by only once in the hour we sat there to fill up our water glasses. When our food finally came out, the salmon in the salmon salad was overcooked, cold, and a tiny piece for a $16 salad. It didn't come with anything but some lettuce. We also ordered the butternut squash salad. What a pathetic excuse for a $15 salad. 3 tiny slices of chicken over a few pieces of lettuce. I would never recommend this place for lunch. read more

We couldn't get in on Saturday, but we were up early enough on Sunday to stop by. We decided to split the vegan tempeh hash since we had a large brunch planned later. We spent Thanksgiving week in Vail and ate at Westside Cafe twice, once for breakfast and another time for lunch. We found the service and food to be impeccable! Our waiters were personable and very knowledgeable about the menu. I have to eat gluten free, and they made me feel very safe and comfortable about eating at the cafe. The food was amazing; a little twist on the classics like red elk chili and a bison burger. My gluten free pancakes with blueberries were a real treat! This place is known for its breakfast and for good reasons. However I would definitely recommend trying it for dinner too. It's much less crowded and the food is excellent. The place is packed for breakfast! There is always some wait but it's not terrible. Everything I've tried here was good. Give their Bloody Mary a try too (yes, at breakfast!). It's a little expensive but it's pretty good. I think they put a little too much ice in it though... Unlike many other places, you can feel that the chef here adds a little personal touch to the dishes. I wouldn't call it a "twist" but you can feel the attention to details and some effort to make the dishes better than other, traditional places. read more

Went here this morning to patronize them on their reopening. Ordered a simple breakfast sandwich. You would think the staff would be relatively excited about being back open and seeing people and having a job, since a lot of us don't any longer. They aren't and they don't! The simple pick up interaction was one of " I could care less-per norm.... and then I tipped her in front of her and no thanks or acknowledgement to it at all. I've come to accept, this is just how things roll here over the years. Not happy, not unhappy, just don't need to go back . On a positive note: Congratulations on reopening guys!!! Giving it 3 stars because we were out on the patio and the view was amazing!!! Service was severely lacking - had to get up and refill our own water and coffee. Many other servers walked past our table multiple times, but never offered to top off drinks because it wasn't "their table"... not impressed. My husband wanted the "Elvis Waffle" but wanted a pancake instead of a waffle. When he asked the waitress, she got super uncomfortable and pretty much said "no dice", so he said "Well, ok, then I'll have the pancakes and add a side of bananas and peanut butter." I'm not sure why it wouldn't have been easier to just suggest doing the Elvis Waffle and bring out some pancakes? Anyway, the waitress acted like we had asked for... well, I don't know, but she sure wasn't going to offer to be accommodating. Pancakes were cold... ugh, end of story. My omelette was so-so... We just stayed at the Highline for our wedding weekend, and the Westside Cafe was the perfect little restaurant for so many things while we were there! The staff was all very helpful (shout-out to Maggie and James in particular!). Service was friendly and quick. The food was phenomenal. Their huevos rancheros are the best I've ever had! We used them for coffee every morning, ordered salads for the ladies' getting-ready room, picked up bagels for the morning-after brunch, and everything was fresh and delicious. BAD SERVICE. Servers believe they are holier than thou. Its unfortunate that many ski area restaurants feel comfortable to charge what they want. In turn, their wait staff dont feel conpelled to offer good service because, "where else are you gonna go?" Well after going here for 5 years, the staff here just showed disrespect fot me. After being sat, for ten minutes, we werent offered any water. In the meantime, i saw staff jist talking to each other and other patrons (who were done eating). In the mean time, i saw 5 tables who were also waiting to order. Mind you..the restaurant was half empty and this was on a Thursday at 10 am. I asked for water and service to whixh one of the staff said, "ill tell your server, youre not in my section." Turns out my server was just taking her time gossiping with anothet patron..she was conpletely oblivious to us and her other tables. I walked out shared this with the staff, and they responded, "Whats your problem?" That attitude just cemented why ill never go back. Being located in vail, most people expect a pretty decent dining experience no matter where you eat. This restaurant by far is the absolute worst in the valley. Even though your paying for practically 5 star dining, you get no star food. The flavors that they try to use make no sense and makes you gag. Not to mention the portions are tiny. Most people expect more than two micro potatoes on their plate. It wouldn't even be enough to fill up my 3 year old(she eats). I am beyond shocked and will never go back.
