SO this place is around the corner from my apartment and is one of the only "chill" bars in the area. First, the crowd - random. There were a group of guy from a soccer team that had finished their game at Chelsea piers- fine that in normal, but the rest of the bar was townies and a very sad mix of them if you ask me. Secondly- it took like 20 mins for the bar tender to take my order, and oh, btw, I had to ask her if I could get a drink (the guy bar tender that came later was cool, though) Lastly... MY WALLET WAS STOLEN! Obviously not the bar's fault, but still... the crowd. I will not be visiting again any time soon. read more

Definite hookuo spot or end of date spot for a couple to go. Spotted three couples making out. Two at the bar and one in the back. Lounge chairs and all. There was a pool table and great bartenders for making good drinks and attending quickly. All in all worth going to for casual drink, but even before midnight on Saturday it seems like hookup spot, assuming you have the hookup lined up! Best dive in the area. Bartender Justin is super friendly, recommended some great food in the area. His body is to DIE for (not to be weird) and he sort of looks like an 80s rom com villain (in a good way;) I heard he's been on TV. Nice bar that's pretty popular on weekend nights. I ordered a bay breeze, which was good but pretty weak in terms of alcoholic content. I dont know if it was their intention but they made it pretty girly looking. The cocktails are ok. read more

c'mon, for what this place is, it's great!! Pool tables, great bartenders, couches, long bar, great jukebox.......but no food. Feel free to order in though. Best nights to go are Tuesday and Friday. I've had a drink here a few times and once stayed for a while and hung out with friends so I'm not opposed to coming here, but it's just not a place I'd go to if there were more options in the area. As other reviewers have said, they charge $7 for a Brooklyn Lager, which is just too high in my opinion. It's one thing if a hard-to-find, small-batch beer is that price or you go to a Belgian bar and get a $9 Delirium, but this is just a regular bar so it's expensive. There's no happy hour here so you can't save a few dollars by coming before 7. Any bar without a happy hour special bothers me a little, but it's not the end of the world. Also they don't serve food, so if you want a burger or wings you'll have to go elsewhere. On to the positives: it's a nice bar esthetically with dark wood, dim lighting (maybe a little too dark at times), and just a few flat-screens so if you're not in the mood to watch tv you won't be surrounded by them. There's a nice crowd of people so you can meet someone if you're trying to, but it can also be a little too crowded in terms of finding a place to sit. Basically, if you're in the area and want a beer it might be your best option, but it's not a great one. read more

The atmosphere is great, the drinks are strong, the service is fast, and the location is clutch. When I imagine NY bars - this is pretty much what pops into my brain. Well, this and Jimmy's Corner, you'll pay more here, but you'll also have a way better experience. I didn't spend too much time here, but I did notice that on a busy night they are a little understaffed and it might take awhile to get a drink so you might as well order 2 when you finally get their attention. There's a pool table and lots of comfortable seating in back (couches). My girl and I were walking to the "Highline" and found this gem. What a great place. The bartender who I swear sound like Jerry Seinfeld was as cool as they come. The patrons were really cool, everyone was friendly and I felt right at home. They have a great happy hour and they give you a decent drink, none of that pour-in-the-shotglass stuff. Met a close friend at the Westside Tavern for drinks. Once done, I paid the bill, tipped the bartender 20% and wouldn't be writing a review for this place as it didn't stand out in any way -- good or bad. But after we paid the bill, the bartender (with a skull tattoo on his arm) and my friend had an exchange that left me speechless. Let's just say he should not be in the service industry or working with people. He should be in a research lab assassinating rats or something of that sort. The guy was so unbelievably rude and spiteful that I couldn't even say anything overhearing their argument -- I just burst out laughing. He reminded me of Trump -- completely self-centered and incapable of seeing other person's (especially a paying customer's) point of view. I pity his lover, if he has one. read more

Was here a number of years ago and recently found my letters to American Express disputing fraudulent charges by the bartenders and/or management at this place. I had a tab of $100 and left a $20 cash tip. I didn't bother to x-out the tip line on the credit card slip and signed the slip. A few days later I noticed my card was charged $130. They had decided to fill in their own tip on top of my cash tip. Sad indeed. Guess what happened when I called to try and straighten out the situation? They hung up on me. Again and again and again. Poor way to conduct business, gentlemen. There are hundreds of other places to spend your hard earned money. Don't do it here. They don't deserve it. read more

Not very memorable in general, but that's what makes it a spot I'll remember on nights when I feel like an easy meeting spot that's not likely to be crazed, even at 10pm on a Saturday. The bartenders sucked here. The one blond wannabe bartender was an absolute witch, with a bad attitude. She actually yelled at our group because we didn't know how to order drinks. If she would stop looking at her cell phone every 2 seconds and actually pay attention to us, then she might be able to memorize the order. I had the pleasure of coming here twice in one week and must say this is hands down a great local bar. The bartender Anafisa made me feel so welcome and that really makes a great bar for me. I've been here a few times now as I have a friend who works a couple blocks away at Trestle on Tenth. It's a good, non-descript neighborhood bar with a pool table in the back and a relaxed atmosphere where they don't crank up the music so loud that you can't have a conversation. Last time I was in here, Gossip Girl was shooting around the corner and a few cast members came in for drinks after they wrapped their scenes. read more

Can I give zero stars? I went here for a friend's birthday party and witnessed him get royally screwed. They charged an incredibly high bar minimum, then proceeded to comp drinks all night long in the spirit of...shadiness? For a group of 60 we apparently each had only one drink apiece...over the course of 4.5 hours. And when my friend challenged this fact the manager replied that he must have "shitty friends who don't drink enough." Nice. The bar itself leaves much to be desired. The basement area that you can rent out for parties is incredibly dark, there are no beers on tap (only a lame selection of overpriced bottles), broken coat hooks abound and were it not for my friend's awesome play list (yes, he was his own DJ), then I have a feeling the general atmosphere would've been a major downer. And as far as the upstairs? On a Saturday night? EMPTY AND DEPRESSING. There are so many other bars in this neighborhood that are so much better. Keep walking when you see Westside Tavern! Just went in for a drink with a friend. The music wasn't too loud (jukebox) so we were able to have our conversation. The decor was very inviting and warm. I like that they have the pool table as an option for some entertainment. All in all, just a good simple bar. read more

Nice place to go for a drink for friends. A bit more towards neighborhood sports bar rather than upscale. You know what you're getting here. Prices are bit a high selection, is smaller but adequate. Like others mentioned, there's a pool table in back, and an adequate amount of seats. 2.5 stars...The place is pretty nice, I especially like the styling of the Westside Tavern sign outside, very classy. They only have 6 beers on tap, but the have my top favorites (Yuengling, Stella, & Harp) so I couldn't complain. They also have a pool table and from what I hear a very good juke box. The prices are too high for such an average tavern to make be come back to this place (I'm not a fan of paying $6 for a Yuengling draft unless a place is really something special). read more
