My wife and I stopped in for a quick lunch on a beautiful day at Big Sky. The manager Dave was warm and genuine. We sat at the bar and were served by Collin, who was a real pleasure. Large group made reservations days ahead . . . Westward thought it appropriate to sit 12 ppl on tree stumps after a long day of skiing. When we asked for seating with back support, we were told the bench seating already configured for 10-12 was "not available". So they squeezed us into small tables , then took 15 mins to come for our orders. We advised upfront that we'd be paying separately and were told they could only take 8 separate checks. After a long day of skiing, we were drawn into Westward Social by the great music and couldn't be happier that we came in. One look at the menu and we were sold. The local micro brews and craft cocktails were fantastic, and after almost ordering the whole menu, we settled on the Chicken Fry Mac N Cheese (Burnt Ends, Pickled Shallots), Cast Iron Carrots & Cashews, and Westward Wings as snacks (appetizers). We then ordered the Honey Fried Smoked Chicken Sandwich and Guajillo Spiced Elk Flank as entrees. All of the food was cooked really well and came out really quickly (served as soon as it was prepared) and we were really impressed with how friendly and helpful the staff were (especially on opening night!). The Social is managing as nest they can, with a limited menu and short of staff. My husband and I both had the pasta with an added protein. It was very tasty. Personally, I hate this place. It's an embarrassment to Big Sky. Replacing M.R. Hummers, Westward Social is a cold environment that appeals only to the Californian elite. If you enjoy overpriced and very limited food options, such as $20 hummus, as well as weak attempts at polite interactions from the staff (gave me the wrong beer even though there were only 6 people there) and extremely poor EDM music, this is your kind of bar. I'd give them 0 stars but the liquor/beer selection is pretty good, so they get a 1 out of pity! Given the opportunity, I would try and buy out the place and give it a total revamp, tailoring it to the common folk that have grown to love Big Sky. Granted, I don't know how to run a bar, but honestly it seems like they don't either. I'll likely never visit again! read more

Cocktails are the shining star! The 'tender crushed it; however, don't expect great table service or amazing food. We waited around 45 minutes to be served after ordering appetizers. Last I checked a 1/2 rack or ribs was 6, not 5...and you really shouldn't have to work to get meat off a bone. A charcuterie board typically should come with enough crackers/bread for the meal...but whatever, people will continue to pay & nothing will change. Ski country USA. Meh. read more

Super fun place, you're at a resort so everything is 20-40% more expensive than it should be. Price to quality everywhere here at Big Sky or any ski resort is like that. Great is fairly food (went there twice). BUT.... no how much you offer to pay for the hot dog, you have to be under 13. I offered to pay the same price as the adult Brat, but they said the owners won't allow off it. Waiter was apologetic. Lady at the hostess stand was horrible when we shoved up and when I asked about the hotdog thing and we were leaving bc of it, she said "oh well" and rolled her eyes. I wouldn't go back there. We made the mistake of eating here twice, once for dinner and then again for lunch. Same menu, same subpar service and a cook who more or less says "my way or the highway". The bison melt at dinner was done with bleu cheese - not great, and the Wagyu brats for lunch were scorched and smothered in toppings that failed to hide the damage. The salmon in coconut curry sauce was great and the pork shank was smoked to perfection ... even the sides of roasted carrots and fries were worth commenting on! Besides having to ask for everything from drinks, refills and silverware...our food was also served cold. Food was so so, would have been at least a bit better if it was actually warm. Overall, food was marginal and the wait staff were more interested in chatting with each other than serve guests. Stumbled in here about an hour after they opened for the first time and got a seat at the bar. Ordered a few cocktails off the list and were really happy with our drinks. Colin the bartender was super helpful and informative about the local spirits they sourced and even offered us a few samples. The food was decent but there were a few first day jitters but you could see the potential. Just came back for the second time and had more great cocktails, the elk tartare and the bone marrow onion dip. All very good. This was one of the most disappointing dining experiences I've ever had. We chose this venue for a birthday dinner during our trip to Big Sky because of the location, farm-to-table dining, and atmosphere. Unfortunately two of those three didn't deliver. Let's start with the good: able to make a reservation through Open Table, easily accessible if you are staying in the village or skiing, brisket and Mac/cheese app were decent. Now the bad: two of their entree options were unavailable (the elk and ribs - which most of our party had intended to order) - it was only 6:30 and those are regular menu options (not specials, which I would understand if they were sold out); their tappers were not working, so only canned beer and cocktails were available; several menu options we ordered had substitutions (not told to us while ordering, meanwhile we were upcharged to sub fries for cowboy beans); not much left that seemed farm-to-table - American Local was actually a ham and cheese (nothing about ham mentioned on the menu), Chicken Mac and Cheese app had brisket instead of chicken (and not a lot of brisket like another reviewers picture - like 3 bite-sized pieces); the two people that ordered chicken sandwiches had way over-fried breading and not much chicken; one of them had a hair sticking out (this friend was so hungry, she decided to cut that part away and eat the rest, only to discover a way longer hair essentially cooked into the middle of the sandwich (she gave it to our waiter, and despite only being one of four-five small party tables (6 or less people), she waited almost 45 mins for a new one. There seemed to be an over abundance of staff, yet we didn't seem to have much interaction with any. We feel like it became disheartening for our waiter to stop by, because every time he did he had bad news to deliver (kitchen out of something else), or we did (hair). Atmosphere seemed nice at first glance, but the "table games" advertised were not happening or at least visibly accessible. Memorable meal, but for all the wrong reasons. read more

Great service. Fries were soggy and the chicken sandwich was okay - for $18 it could be better. For a farm to table restaurant there were very few vegetarian options for my daughter. Wings are tasty. The menu is not very clear. For example the mac & cheese has beef in it but you wouldn't know it from the menu.
