One star is generous. Walked into this location a little after 10 tonight. The youngster behind the counter couldn't figure out how to enter an A1 Thick And Hearty without onions and had to "call a friend" for help. That finally got done but then they forgot to give us an order number. After some attempts at them finding the lemon packets for iced tea, we got our order. It was brought out packaged to go, even though we ordered it for there. The two orders were mixed up with the sides, but we managed. Then the A1 Thick and Hearty burger had onions. I returned it to the counter and I was told they'd make a new one. After a few minutes, I found out they had not even started on remaking a burger. I asked for a refund and we got ready to leave. Then the manager, Daniel Lopez, came over with a replacement burger. He also handed me a business card explaining that Whataburger does not allow open carry of firearms. My firearm remained concealed underneath my jacket and he said it was seen when I placed my wallet in my back pocket. I explained that the business card he gave me was not in compliance with Texas law and he said that they were a private business and didn't have to post a sign. While this is technically correct, it's unlike any other business I've seen. To me, it's much as if they're trying to both have and eat their cake. There's no sign to drive off gun owners, but they choose to ban anyway. The combination of poor service, bad attitude, and the noncompliance with Texas law ensured that this was my last visit to Whataburger ever. read more

Sooooooo delicious is all I can say. I really don't eat from any other places! Only some problems... why does it occasionally smell like poop? Did someone order a poop sandwich? It should not take nearly 30 minutes to get a burger. This is ridiculous. They have a single cashier working at a snail's pace. I am now going to be late going to the place I needed to go because this restaurant can't get its act together. I can understand being understaffed and slammed but they should at least let the customers know that there is a long wait before they order. Oh, balls... I slipped again. Last night, I got a bacon burger meal with fries and a Diet Coke. It's what I used to get all the time. The lady working the drive-thru said she liked my car, then asked me what I'd been up to that night. Seemed a little nosy. Not that it was any of her business, but I told her I was celebrating a friend's birthday downtown, which included general revelry and a karaoke version of Cee-Lo Green's "F*ck You" that I probably butchered. Once again, I ate the fries in the car, and scarfed down the burger while I talked to whoever was on Facebook at 2:30 AM. I have learned to appreciate their food more over the years such as the double Whataburger with cheese and chicken strips with toast and gravy. What I find troubling about Whataburger is their inconsistent customer service. It seems like they have a low standard for this. When it is good it rivals ChickFilA but when it is bad it is worse than McDonalds. It seems standard practice for employees not to give a receipt. Today we asked for one and the unfriendly cashier gave us this deer in the headlight look. He had to ask a coworker for a reprint copy. Another strike is that the receipt didn't contain any survey so the perception is that they don't welcome feedback. Their food may be very good but it isn't worth the aggravation to us. read more

I am definitely a Whataburger fan after living in Texas for over 45 years. I now live in Oregon an whenever I return I always stop at Whataburger during my visit. I love Whataburger due to its size( you need two hands to pick it up) an flavor. The bun is big but it doesn't hide the meat an they don't skimp on the lettuce, tomato an pickle. But I have to admit theirs fry's are just OK. Their good, but not great. They're a little too slender; I would prefer a thicker dry fry. But I absolutely lover their spicy ketchup which more than makes up for the fry's. So much in fact that I bought a bottle of spicy ketchup at HEB to bring home with me. If you're hungry for a burger you can't go wrong stopping at Whataburger to fulfill your craving. read more

My first time stepping foot in here in a year. My last experience with the food was so bad I didn't think I would ever eat here again. My husband wanted it though and I'm glad we came: a young gentleman by the name of Richard (at least that's what our receipt said) greeted us with a very warm "Good morning!" He was super chipper and upbeat. He was kind to every person who walked through their door and even the way he interacted with his co workers seemed respectful and cheerful. As much as I hope he doesn't stay for the sake of him making a career for himself outside of fast food, I also kind of hope he never leaves because his warm attitude would be enough to make anyone come back! Saw the employee handling the drive through window being treated like absolute garbage by two separate cars also going through the drive through. Our food came out perfect and very quick service. This review is a long time coming. I deliver for Favor and end up here A LOT. Whataburger in general has a big issue with consistency and correct orders and this location is definitely no exception. In fact it's one of the worst. There's a newer person working at this location and he constantly interrupts you while ordering and makes you feel very rushed. He always seems to have an annoyed tone to his voice and makes you feel like you're inconveniencing him. When this guy is working orders are always wrong, missing items, incorrect items, etc. Tonight my husband ordered for myself and family and it was this guy who took the order. The burger I got was ICE cold. Not cool from cold veggies but the meat itself is cold. It's somehow cooked through but is so cold all the way through. It is significantly colder than the veggies. I don't know how that happens but it doesn't make me want to eat it. I've taken 2 bites before dissecting it and it's almost Frozen in the middle. What? So I'm hungry and not eating this burger that's clearly not fit for consumption. Did they precook and freeze burgers? I have no idea. The burger was very sloppily made, too. Veggies only on half, mayo only on the opposite half, jalapenos only directly in the middle, the tomato tastes rotten....but it was made correctly as far as containing all the ingredients I asked for. We ordered 4 meals, 2 of which were kids meals, said we wanted ketchup and my husband asked for extra regular ketchup.....we received NO KETCHUP. Not a big deal but it is incredibly annoying. I eat very little fast food. I try to primarily eat at home because most food in the outside world is plagued with high-fructose corn syrup, the fat that will kill you and a TON of salt. That being said, occasionally, a sandwich or burger will tickle my fancy. And once a year or so, I'll give one a try. I went to this Whataburger to try a Honey BBQ Chicken Strip Sandwich because, well, it looks very tasty. The sandwich delivered on its promise. It was honey, BBQ, chicken, strip-y and a sandwich. Hell, it even gave me some cheese on top of that -- BONUS. Service was OK. Somewhat slow and uneventful. I so rarely experience fast food service, though, so maybe my expectations are skewed? My usual is the chicken tenders meal. It's perfect. Crispy tenders, fries, coupl'a pieces of Texas Toast and some good ole sweet tea to sip on. This Whataburger always gets that meal down pat. I can't remember a time when my order was screwed up or I was gypped items (I just looked up "gypped" and was surprised to learn it's actually in the dictionary. whoa!). Tonight I decided I was in the mood for a hamburger. Did the new Build Your Own custom burger menu and everything turned out great. I like that method. Seems a lot easier to order only the things you want on there. This location always has fries that seem like they popped directly from the fryer into my bag because DAMN they always burn my mouth! Same with the onion rings. Always hot and crispy. The only negative point to this location is that there is usually a long line/wait (I guess that's all relative, huh?). That pretty much goes for every location, though. Whataburger just takes a little longer to make their food, but if that's all it takes to get it done right, then I don't really mind. So as far as Whataburgers go, I give this one four stars. read more

We live a block or so from this Whataburger so why would my burger be cold from the time we picked it up until the 30 second drive to the house? Then I ordered it without onions & it had onions. So it's obvious they premake burgers with everything on it (why it was cold) & just send those out even with one item removed requested (why it was wrong). It's a Whataburger - there's not all that much to say about it. If you've eaten at a Whataburger you know what to expect. If not, you owe it to yourself to give it a shot. The burgers taste the same as you would expect from a typical fast food joint. The breakfast food is pretty good and they serve it from 11pm - 11am. The cinnamon raisin biscuit things are delicious. I've eaten at this particular establishment a couple times and the food has always come out in a reasonable amount of time and the employees have always been nice. The food has never been sloppily prepared or poorly cooked or anything like that. No complaints there. I've only been through the drive-thru so I can't speak for the cleanliness of the restaurant interior, but I didn't see employees pooping in cups or anything like that. read more

Whataburger burgers are a step above McDonald's or DQ or the like. Not quite up to the level of a true restaurant burger, but great for fast food. Sort of on par with Sonic, but easier to customize since you don't have to speak through the irritating speaker thingy that seems to somehow drop the most important part of your order. I mean, Whataburger advertises "Just like you like it", but seriously, what burger joint is going to say "NO! YOU MUST HAVE MAYO INSTEAD OF MUSTARD! NO SUBSTITUTIONS!" Well, I'm sure there's some local, natural, anti-GMO, organic, hipster, Austin original place out there that takes that stance on burgers, but yeah...it's not normal. What was unusual about this particular Whataburger was how incredibly friendly the staff was. They were quick enough, and my order was simple, but correct, but what really struck me was that they went out of their way to be friendly and nice. That's not normal for fast food,and certainly not normal for fast food at 1am on a Saturday night. Maybe they were just happy that I wasn't drunk or high and was easy to understand, i dunno. Regardless, it's a much better environment in which to sit and eat than, say, a Waffle House or a Denny's, which tend to have questionable service and loud, irritating customers during the same time frame. The location might have something to do with the less unruly crowd. You couldn't get much further from 6th street and still be in Austin, which is a plus, in my opinion. Also worth mentioning is that Whataburger's chicken tenders are also really good, some of the best I've ever had, and their gravy that they put with it is great. Went through drive through and the cashier was so incompetent. He acted annoyed as soon as we got there. It was a short line and we purposely made it an easy order. He refused to read the order back to us and a result I was charged for fries that I never got and all the burgers were made wrong. We asked for a number 14 chicken bites and received chicken tenders. Even when using order numbers and specifying what it was he wasn't able to do a simple thing. I asked for no pickles no mustered and got both of those. If it was just one issue, it would have been fine, but the combination of terrible service and not getting what we ordered and paid for is unacceptable. I made this order on November 8th at 12:07:59. My order number was 518651. I'd say who the cashier was but I didn't receive a receipt and his name is not on the order ticket.
