Terrible experience. The food is okay but the wait in the drive thru is always extremely long at mealtimes. You'll have 3-4 cars waiting for their order after they already paid and reached the pick up window and are told to wait up front. This has to be one of the worst Whataburgers out there. If Galveston's east end didn't have such limited restaurant options, I'd never step foot in here at all. Even for the classic afterparty get-together, sitting down for a meal with your buddies is bearable at best. The floors never look clean, there's a good chance the tables feel sticky, and the place just feels unpleasant overall. I don't ask for much out of fast food establishments like Whataburger. If it's past midnight, I'm genuinely expecting the drive-thru employee to be high as a kite and slurring his words through the speaker. Even when I opt for customizations through the app and they completely ignore them, I'm disappointed but definitely not surprised. What makes this location so horrendous is the absurd wait times. It has no sense of management and its workflow runs rougher than a unicycle with triangular wheels. Ordering on the app is useless after dining in closes; the drive thru only contains 1 lane so there's no way to bypass customers that are currently ordering. It can take up to 35-40 minutes to get your food from speaker to window. Even when the inside is open, I still often find myself waiting until I actually arrive for them to start preparing my order. Curbside? Hilarious. I don't think the employees even know that they have two reserved spots out front. As a lifelong Texan, I recognize the impact Whataburger has on the culture. I still appreciate the opportunity to enjoy a ridiculously unhealthy burger at 1AM when nothing else is open. That doesn't stray away from the fact that this is supposed to be a "fast" food joint. It's National Hamburger Day and it doesn't get more Texan than going to Whataburger! I ordered a Whataburger Jr, small fries, Diet Coke and a small chocolate milkshake. I recommend downloading the Whataburger app so you can scan it each visit. After 5 visits you get a reward that you can redeem for free food items. I had a reward available so I used that and my small milkshake was free! I ordered via the drive thru line and handed my credit card to the cashier at the window. She proceeded to hand me my Diet Coke, my shake and then the bag and a receipt that was a foot and a half long. I asked for my credit card back and she said that the receipt was wrapped around it. I'm looking in the food bag and I don't see it. Well, it had fallen down under my seat. I would recommend that you run the credit card first and return it immediately - before handing off drinks and food. Sorry to have held up the drive thru line but I wasn't leaving until I had my credit card back safely in my wallet. I think most people are like me and they like to pop a French fry in their mouth on the drive home. Well, the fries were cold. Yuck! Food/ They are huge 5" burgers. They taste great but it reminds me too much of a whopper without mayo and ketchup. Fresh. Nice buns, but nothing impressive. It comes standard only with mustard. You must ask for the other stuff which leads me to..... Service/ Excellent. The girls working the counter will come out and deliver you your food and give you a tray of condiments to choose from to go with your meal. You won't have to ask but you'll only be able to choose what they have on the tray. I believe Ranch was extra. Would I come here again? Not if I didn't live here. I was really upset but when I went back to get the issue resolved, the manager Gilbert was incredibly attentive and remade my order despite it being busy. We frequently have bacon forgotten on our bacon burgers here which is disappointing, (I don't know what it is about fast food in galvy but no where seems to remember bacon on bacon burgers, I find it kind of comical at this point ) but Gilbert's sense of urgency, communication, professionalism, and willingness to fix mess ups is definitely worth five stars from me! read more
