Best burgers in North Carolina!!! My favorite is the grilled chicken club with avocado if you want something different.

I have been a fan of Whataburger in Texas for over 30 years, so I was excited to hear they were opening one in Winston Salem. Well, my excitement didn't last long. My first visit to the Whataburger in Winston Salem was terrible. It was nothing like the originally. The burger/meat itself had a weird taste, the lettuce was hardly there and the bun was stale. I think maybe the owner should go back and learn how to make a real Texas Whataburger. The only good thing about it was the size, at least they followed that standard. Don't get me started on the organization of the drive through. There was none. Once we got to the window I saw nothing but chaos, workers scrambling trying to figure out what order went to what car, people upset because the orders were wrong, it wasn't a good experience. Maybe I'll let the newness wear off a bit and give it another try, but for now I'll stay away. read more

Me and my girlfriend decided to give this place a try, and it was one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. The drive-thru line was wrapped around the building, nowhere to park, so we went inside. The inside was completely cluttered -- shoulder-to-shoulder with nowhere comfortable to sit. Ordering was a mess. The cashier clearly had no idea what she was doing, and in a place that busy, it makes no sense to put someone brand new on the register. We waited 20-30 minutes just for food, and then another 20 minutes for my shake because "the machine had to reboot." Last I checked, ice cream machines don't need to reboot -- and if they're being cleaned, you're supposed to have a backup. The food was awful. I got an avocado burger, fries, and a shake. My girlfriend got a plain cheeseburger with pickles. The fries tasted like they'd been cooked in chlorine and were stale. My burger was just okay, but hers was bone dry -- like a McDonald's patty that had been left sitting out all day. The strawberry vanilla shake didn't taste like strawberry at all -- more like medicine. Even the Sprite tasted off and looked discolored. By the next day, I felt absolutely sick -- dizzy, nauseous, like food poisoning. I haven't eaten since that meal. For two people, the bill came out to almost $40, and it wasn't even worth $10. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. I've had better food at McDonald's, and I wouldn't even eat this again if I was drunk. read more

We started coming here right after they opened. The first time we came the line was ridiculous and it took us between 30-45 minutes to make it all the way through. We were understanding because we knew they had just opened and a lot of people were going to be there. The second time we went the employees were all yelling at each other about their personal lives and then reluctantly coming up to take peoples orders. The service was incredibly slow, but like before the food was good! Today we went for our third time and the girl working the drive thru sounded annoyed to be taking our order. She asked for our name and we told her and she gave us our food. We got the right drinks and the food looked correct, but when we got home we realized we got something completely different than what we ordered. So basically the service and the food are not worth the price. read more

My first and only visit to this restaurant(?) was a total disappointment. The food, service, and atmosphere was below expectations and minimum standards. We were anxious to try something new, and hoped for a positive experience, but left disappointed. Our order took over 30 minutes before I tracked it down behind the counter, was over cooked but cold, was miss priced but offered with no compensation. a real professional experience.......NOT. I had an absolutely horrible experience at Whataburger. I wanted to get lunch out, which a rarely do but decided to give Whataburger a try. I ordered online, my first mistake because the app told me I could have my food ready in 4-7 minutes. I was about 5 minutes away so I went for it. Well when I showed up I could tell I was in for a wait. There were many unhappy looking people waiting for their orders. I told the man at the front my name and he said "you just ordered there is about a 20 minute wait". So not the 4-7 minutes the app promised but it was a weekend I could wait 20 minutes. Well....an hour later, not exaggerating, I'm asking for the manager and a refund. They then claim they are currently working on my order so would I wait ? I wasn't happy at all but if they were really working on my order I'd wait and not get my refund. You guessed it, they weren't really working on my order and I asked for the manager again and they made the same claim, that they were working on it. After 1 hour and 20 minutes I got my order. It was what I ordered with all customizations and it was hot. They get 2 stars for that but I really should give them 1. I will 100% for sure never be there again. read more

The food was less appealing than I expected (kinda blah). The price, are you kidding. I've eaten much better burgers at Wendy's. And the woman running the Drive Thru was somewhat rude. Really a shame, seemed like a nice place. Can't say I'll ever eat here again, not even if it's free. read more

My husband and I have had Whataburger in Florida and really enjoyed it. We were really excited to know a Whataburger was coming to Winston Salem. This location did not disappoint us. I had a burger combo and hubby had a spicy chicken sandwich combo, food was good and up to par with the locations we tried in Florida. The service was great especially given it was midnight on a Friday. We did have to pull up & wait several mins, given the amount of people who were in line in drive thru as well as inside but our order was correct . The double lanes were down to one, which made things run a little slow but hopefully when all the hype around this opening dies down they can work on being a little more efficient. Overall, we will be back. Our only fear is that like some new restaurants in the city after being opening for awhile, service and quality of food goes down. We hope this doesn't happen to one of our favorite restaurant chains read more

Literally waited in the drive thru line for over 30 minutes. Had people on the left side going before us and we were 3 cars ahead of them. Apparently their headsets "didn't work" some behind us had to yell out of their window to ask us if they had taken our order yet. Just to find out that person called inside to see what the hold up was. But the left hand side speakers worked just fine ofc. read more

This is my 2nd visit and I really like the patty melt. However, I waited in the drive thru for over 45 min. today to place and receive my order. I would have left if I could have gotten out of the line, but, of course, there is no option of getting out of the drive thru. The workers said some of the staff didn't show up. It was almost like they were prepping 1 order at a time because no one was coming out with food. There were people still in the other line when I finally got my food that were there when I got there so they waited even longer than I did. There needs to be some way of getting out of the line if is this bad. I felt sorry for people on their lunch hour because I'm sure they were quite late getting back to their jobs. read more

Been in line stuck for over 42 minutes in the drive thru. We've already ate the food we ordered but are stuck behind a car that hasn't gotten their order for 35 minutes. Food was less than average, not worth the wait at all. Hopefully we get out in time for dinner. read more

Worst fast food experience I ever had. Man taking orders was extremely disrespectful and impatient. Wouldn't even let me get a full sentence out before interrupting me. Then proceeded to get our order wrong claiming that's what we ordered. Then gave us a large cup half full and claimed it to be a small drink. Food was sent back three times not once was there an apology and he continued to make it seem like we were going crazy. Won't be back again. read more

This is the worst service I've ever seen for a "fast food" restaurant. We waited 46 minutes for two burgers and fries.

Disappointed with my first visit. : ( multiple wrong orders returned while waiting in line. Drink machine mix was off and it tasted poorly. Our order ended up wrong as well. Hard to make a plain cheeseburger wrong! Manager seemed over his head and there were flies everywhere! Got a trial refund and headed to reliable Marios pizza. Went for dinner on Tuesday 11/18/25 at 7pm. 35 minute wait for lukewarm burgers swimming in mustard. Staff wouldn't make eye contact when I went back to try to find out how much longer these shakes were going to take. Oh and maybe the ketchup I asked for? Perhaps after they finish up with their impromptu staff meeting to discuss holiday pay and working hours for the Christmas holiday in another 6 weeks. Quite literally everyone in the restaurant stopped working to discuss this with the manager while we're all waiting for our food. The toppings didn't quite match my order when I finally received it but I did not want to irritate the manager who was already upset with another customer whose order couldn't seem to come out correctly. I really enjoyed my experience at the Greensboro location but Winston salem is buns. Stale buns. read more

Whataburger on Stratford Road, Winston-Salem. Staff was rude; the cashier acted like she could not care that we were there and service was slow. Food was mediocre, at best, and a bit overpriced. I don't see what all the excitement or hype is about. I won't be going back there again. read more

Alright, so I went through the drive thru, left side. When I finally get up to the ordering area I'm told they are having technical difficulties and it would be 10-15 mins. I was like "Cool, I can be patient, I like the burgers" Do 30 minutes later I had 6 cars in the other lane order and get their food and drive away. The guy behind me comes up to my window and says he went in and was told it would be a 10-15 minute wait. I was done and decided I would eat somewhere else. When I drove around I saw the dining room was open and decided I'd go in and order. Ordered pretty quickly and sat down at my table with my number. So my food comes but I am waiting on the shake. Shake came 15 minutes later and my food was basically cold then. Not coming back here at all even though I do enjoy their food. Also, there was a ton of flies flying around in the dining room. Eww. Don't normally complain, or need to with most restaurants I go to but I had to say something. 2 stars just because the food CAN be tasty. read more

Food takes forever only ordered 2 original burger and 2 drinks the service was kind of slow and I waited for my food for a while

Never Again! First time trying it. Waited in drive thru about 30 minutes - Wayyy too long for about 10 cars ahead. There seemed to be an inefficiency between the window with the food and the careless slow guy taking it to the cars. He came back twice asking my name/drink order to retrieve the drinks. Btw, they were all out of carbonated sodas. Finally, my order came and I was then stuck bc they (or the guy working the car line) doesn't notice that car in front of mine still waiting could be asked to pull up slightly to let others out. Food: Junior burger meal. Very dry and overcooked - very thin meat patty with mustard and chunky chopped onions with some brownish lettuce chunks and 1 small piece of pickle. I suggest asking for mayo and ketchup bc it doesn't come on the burger for those that actually go back. Fries were naturally cold and dry and extremely salty. Sweet tea was okay. Chocolate shake just okay but not to go back to. I absolutely won't be back. read more

What a horrible experience. To say this location is chaotic is putting it mildly. We dined in with friends. It took forever to get our food and our friend's meal never arrived. They went up to check and their order was sitting in a to go bag behind the counter. Their meals were barely warm and the fries were actually cold. We fared somewhat better but our cheeseburgers were so dry it was like eating cardboard. To add insult to injury, the restaurant was dirty and the noise level was through the roof. Needless to say we won't be back. They really need to get their act together or they will go the way of other establishments at that location. read more

Went to the Whataburger in Winston Salem at the Stratford Rd location on 12-21-25 and it was absolutely terrible. Got the #1 with 2 cokes and it was $13.89 for one person to eat. Waited forever in the drive thru to get cold food covered in mustard and an attitude from the girl working the window. She did everything one handed was absolutely slow as she could be. When I got my food I said "Thank you" and she closed the window. The food was uneatable and I threw it away and went to Mario's pizza in the same parking lot. read more

Well I've had Whataburger in Texas when I lived there and now they have made their way here to North Carolina so I decided to try today and see how it was. Well the store had a lot of people in it so there was a wait now here is where I got unhappy there was a few hours before close and they had a employee shout down half the inside to clean so there was no places to set so I had to stand and wait when the food was ready I had to ask for it to be bagged so I could take with me then I tried the food. Fries total trash no reason to order them the drink choices trash buy one and bring with you not worth buying. The burger was okay it was hot but there are cheap on cheese and extras you pay for don't get moneys worth Would I try again I wouldn't go out of my way to drive and get it when i can spend the same and get better some place else. The ice has to be the best part of the meal and experience as a whole. The atmosphere is chaotic. The gentleman who took our order at the cash register was the nicest of everyone we encountered. The burger was lukewarm at best. Trash cans were overflowing and when the restaurant employe attempted to empty them, they left a pile of fries to dodge as I emptied my tray. We went on 10-15-2025 about 1:30 pm. The food was terrible. Got a number 1 and a number 2. We waited about a 1/2 hour. When we got our food, it was cold. We ate inside and you had to dodge all the files...GROSS!! There is nothing about this place that would make us go back. HORRIBLE!!! read more

Aaron Hall needs a promotion asap. Or at least a raise. I've never been sold a burger so masterfully in my entire life. The service at this "fast food" burger spot is genuinely better than most sit down restaurants I've been to. Aaron greeted me not even at the door, but as I was getting out of the car with my crew(Also, one of my crew is only Spanish speaking and Aaron went out of his way to communicate and accommodate my crew). He held the door, and proceeded to give a full TED talk about why the Monterey Melt is what I should get, then did the same for most of the remaining items on the menu. And it wasn't bothersome or overwhelming, in fact it was actually refreshing to have someone care enough to walk through the different items on the menu. You will NOT find that anywhere else, especially not at mcds, wendys, burgerfi, etc. shoutout to the rest of the team too. Aaron Hall for store manager! Seriously not joking though he needs a promotion, bilingual and accommodating! A special member to the Whataburger team. Also, he explicitly told me not to leave a review mentioning him so don't think he's being deceitful and telling me to embellish the experience. read more

Let me begin by saying that I tried to give Whataburger my money. Truly. I approached this transaction with the optimism of a first-time guest and the patience of Job. Unfortunately, their website greeted me with the technological stability of a Windows 98 demo disk. First attempt at a digital guest checkout and the loading wheel spun so long I began to ponder the meaning of life. My second attempt, I created an account like a responsible, committed consumer...the outcome was the same loading wheel, now spinning with the confidence of a toddler steering a shopping cart. Fifteen minutes. Nothing. Their proposed solution?? "Log out and log back in"... The sacred ritual of the IT void. I had already performed this ancient ceremony three times, but sure, let's pretend it's the cure. Since the website folded like a lawn chair in a hurricane, I sent my Dad to place the very simple order in person. Somehow... somehow... this order still emerged looking like it had been assembled during a fire drill. Got charged for sauces we never received. Bacon?? Missing entirely. Fries?? Mostly missing, and the ones we did get were cold. Onion rings?? Also, cold. The only burger they got right was the one that literally had nothing on it but meat and bread, which, frankly, is not an achievement so much as an accident. Then I tried contacting customer service. The chat experience felt like being stuck in an elevator with a motivational poster that keeps saying, "Hang in there!!" while the cables snap above you. Cristian was kind, but could not provide something as basic as an email for corporate...a detail one might assume customer service would... possess. Instead, I was told corporate would reach out "sometime", at an unspecified date, through unspecified means, presumably carried by a digital carrier pigeon. In conclusion, my first Whataburger experience was a masterclass in technical malfunctions, culinary confusion, and customer service limbo. Family of four when and we spent 50+ dollars. Tried a variety of foods. It was not good. At all. The customer service was terrible in the drive thru, the guy taking the order didn't put our order in correctly even though I told him several times in different ways plain burgers. He looked like he was high to be honest. When we got the food I immediately checked our food and it was wrong as I suspected. The one guy didn't take the wrong food back with him but took the itemized receipt on the bag. Then a girl came and reconfirmed what we wanted and took the burgers. It took several minutes to get our food back and in this time our fries were getting cold. This customer experience was frustrating and stressful enough, I was hoping the food would make up for it. Unfortunately it didn't. The burger was not good at all. It was quite mustard heavy and all the toppings were in the middle. Honestly a Burger King whopper tastes better. The fries weren't salted and cold. I couldn't eat them. The blackberry pepper shake was yuck, don't do it. The lemonade was also not good and tasted like lemon water. Finally the apple pies, my husband said they taste like old school McDonalds but I wasn't impressed. I was really hoping this place lived up to the hype and especially with the price I was expecting better but this place will fade fast with customer service and food like this. Such a disappointment, definitely won't be back. With that price I'll go to Five Guys for better food and customer service or even Culver's.
