I shop this darling little resale shop every time I visit. It's like all resale, hit and miss. I appreciate the cleanliness and quality of the clothes she takes in. I have found awesome cowboy boots to an amazing cowgirl dress, plus a beautiful leather designer hand bag. You get what you pay for. Beats the overpriced garment stores all over the downtown area! A gem of a find in Prescott! I came here because my mom recommended this shop after she and my sister in law found such cute jackets here. And for a fraction of their cost, too! Brand new with tags and 1/3 of their retail value. In the back they have a discounted section where l found quite a few lovely treasures. A red knitted metallic sweater from Calvin Klein and a wool Cynthia Rowley wool jacket for a steal. Every time l visit Prescott l try to stop in. My best friend is here for the holidays so we plan to stop in on Black Friday (not for any Black Friday deals but just because that's when we are here) and she is so excited after hearing about it. So the four of us (my mom, sis in law, best friend and l) are super excited to shop there this fall season. read more

Absolutely rude staff and an old woman answered the phone with no Manners. I asked a question and she put the phone down to talk to other people without saying anything else and there has been multiple other boutiques who had a lot of of negative stuff to say about this one and fancy that. How cute! I can't believe I hadn't been here before, as I had made an assumption that all clothing stores near the square were too pricey. I didn't even realize this was consignment! For a relatively small store I found several neat items, and also I noticed that I ended up going back over the same section a few times, noticing new things each pass. I hear the inventory changes a lot, so I'll definitely be going back again in the near future. I've seen a lot of mixed reviews on the service that seem to range from terrible to great- personally, my experience was on the positive end, casual conversation and several people in the store just chatting randomly over the clothes. read more

unfortunately the clothes were really cute but the lady working was very rude. I put back a jacket and she asked where it was and I said I put it back and she acted like I was a thief or something. wouldn't make eye contact with me and explained how the brand was very sought after and needed put back exactly how she wanted it...just weird/ rude customer service. It's an upscale consignment store, not a thrift store so it's not goodwill. I always pop in to see what's new and just about always find something amazing to buy. Whatever Was is a friendly place to shop, the clothes are very nice for the price, someone posted it's permanently closed, it's not.

Went in on a Sunday (yay it was open) and the owner? (A blonde lady) and her helper were sorting clothing/shoes. They greeted the next customer in the door but not me. I looked around and never was acknowledged by the staff. Inventory was nice, overpriced for used clothing. The store is full and so getting around inside is tricky if you are more than a size 14 forget coming in here. All the sizes are for slender to anorexic women... I will shop in PV over this place any day. read more

I have never been treated so poorly! My visit to this downtown shop began my overhearing the clerk (who turned out to be the owner) giving out the rules of doing business with her shop to someone over the telephone. She concluded her rude conversation and turned her attention to the other potential clients browsing the racks. One unfortunately shopper gained the attention of this unpleasant shop owner and was promptly, loudly and ever-so rudely instructed on the "proper" was to shop the racks. Needless to say, there was a mass-exodus from the store and all of us "potential clients" spoke a firm commitment to one-another and anyone within hearing distance that we would never darken the door of this shop again and would do our level best to ensure that anyone and everyone we knew would do the same. After a 30 minute "cooling off" period, I returned to the store to speak to the owner. I frankly was hoping that perhaps it was a simple misrepresentation of her customer service skills. I am sorry to report that the second encounter with this MOST UNPLEASANT WOMAN was even more unbelievable than the first. Not only was she unapologetic, but indignant about her behavior. Beware! No "discount price" is worth "discounting" your self-respect! read more

How this shop stays in business I'll never know...the owner and her helper are the rudest people you will ever come across! Awful, nasty women...they must hate the world. If you're looking at an item and don't immediately buy it...they will have some snotty remark. I was looking at an item on their outside rack and brought it in to look in the mirror...the "helper" said "are you going to try it on or buy it?"...I said I wasn't sure yet. The "owner" told her "helper" to go bring all the clothes in...it wasn't even close to closing time...just another snotty remark. I will never go into this shop again. I went into the friendly store next door "Fancy That" and I made a comment about how rude they are next door and the salesgirl said "You have no idea how many people say that"! I have bought several items at this business over the past few years. For the most part, the clothes are overpriced but I enjoyed the items I purchased. On several occasions I was in the store when the owner has been there. I know things are bad when I have to initiate eye contact, say hello and be the first to smile. It happens with her every time I have been there and it happened again today. I am temporarily using a non-motorized scooter due to an ankle break. In a very cold and legalistic type of way, she made sure to duly warn me that the floors were still wet and if I were to fall, she had, in fact, warned me! There is no problem in warning someone on a scooter of a wet floor, but doing so with a bit of kindness and compassion would have gone a long way rather than demonstrating her concern that I might be a liability for her and for her store. I have to say, I have struck out each time I have seen her. The owner of a store should be welcoming and kind and typically the store owners in Prescott fall into this category. Not her! I've been to this consignment store a couple of times and have decided not to go back for a few reasons. The first and main one being I have never been greeted. The employees there (I think one of them is the the owner) are very rude and the last time I went in the prices went up (another reason). I could probably tolerate the price hike if only it were a more pleasant experience with a welcoming atmosphere. If you try on a lot of clothes and don't buy anything, you can almost feel the enmity. And it's not like I was a first time customer but a repeat customer! Also, several of the items show signs wear and tear. Not really sure how this remains in business. The owner is a pro at merchandising and has very high quality items available at reasonable prices. She is usually busy on the weekends, because that is when she takes in new items to sell. I love the new and gently used purses, shoes, clothing and jewelry that I have purchased from Whatever Was. This shop is tiny but carries a lot of seasonal items from size 0 to XXL. I wish I had seen the comments on Yahoo and Google (from 3~4 years ago!) before I tried consigning some clothes at this business. The owner called me on the phone after I consigned with her clerk. She was ranting at me like a crazy person about something that had to do with her clerk, not me. I kept asking why she was calling me. She kept ranting. I hung up, went back to the store and got my stuff. The clerk was so out of it she must be on meds and be oblivious to the tyrant she works for. I have never consigned before and never will again! After leaving the Wild Iris Coffeehouse and having enjoyed a fabulous chai latte, I felt in a cheery mood and thought I'd check out the nearby shops just outside the Wild Iris courtyard. I stumbled upon Whatever Was and found some gorgeous Calvin Klein capris and some awesome gray DKNY jeans for $15 each and in my size. Both looked brand new to me. The saleslady couldn't have been more helpful and the whole experience made me a consignment shop junkie. I have gone into this store several times mostly when a lady with short dark hair was working. They do have some cute clothes (over-priced) but I notice the unfriendly, almost hostile attitude (at first I took it personally) the moment I walk in.
