Situated in Lakeview, Wheat's End is a must go for weekend brunch. Everything on the menu is delicious - you can't even tell everything is gluten free! The Nutella pancakes are to die for and you can choose from getting the full or half stack which is great if you want to order a bit of everything on the menu. I recommend getting the potatoes here because they mix sweet potato and regular potato and the portion is very generous. My go to brunch entree here is the popover with sausage gravy and two poached eggs - the sausage is so rich and goes really well with the popover (savory pastry with an empty middle). My only complaint is that the dish used to be ensembles together with the eggs baked within the popover and the gravy poured our in a delicious combination but now everything is served separately and it's hard to eat everything together. If you go for weekend brunch, be prepared to wait 20 minutes to an hour. read more

I had the blueberry pancakes, the roasted potatoes and a mimosa. My boyfriend had the popover with gravy and a poached egg. This is a gluten free place that my roommate and I checked out for brunch a while back. Typically I'm not a gluten free type of person, but this place has the potential to convert me. I ordered an upside down pear pancake. When it came out it had been flipped so that the pears were then on top. The great thing is that with the pears already cooked and the juice from them forming a sort of glaze on the pancake you didn't need any syrup at all it was already sweet. Went in today, we were seated immediately since there were not a lot of people. We ordered our drinks and food. We waited for our food for a very long time in spite of the place not being packed. While waiting we had to ask for refills for coffee and water. After our very long wait for our food, one of our orders was given to someone else. Instead of making a new one really fast, they took their time to make another one. We finished everything already when the cook asked if got everything. We then reminder her that we never got one of our orders. We decided to just cancel the order. After that, they gave us 10% off and blamed it on being short staff and they were busy. I watched them the whole time and I don't think they're are short staffed; the management process seems broken. The place was not packed and we were not the only table that was waiting for their food for a very long time. With regards to the food we did have, they were good for gluten free food. If you don't specifically care about gluten, it was just ok. Nothing amazing. The blueberry pancakes (vegan version) were delightful. I prefer my pancakes on the denser side (like a thick crepe) instead of the super fluffy kind. These were right in the middle. My server was super nice, not overbearing but always made sure my coffee cup was full. Adorable inside too. My husband has celiac disease and it's so hard to go out to eat. Even when restaurants claim to be gluten free, he still gets frequently sick from cross contamination. However. THIS PLACE. It is a god-send!!! No outside food is allowed and ALL THE FOOD is certified gluten free so there is no way to possibly get sick. We can get anything on the menu and share dishes. Finally got to try this restaurant after months of wanting to go here, and I was NOT disappointed! Got to meet and talk with the manager and he took care of us like we were family! My mom and I ordered about half of the menu to take home with us and everything has been delicious. Their biscuits are not only incredible for GF standards, but stand up against their gluten counterparts! Soft, light, fluffy... and if you have celiac or have eaten GF you know that is a rarity! We also tried bagels, pizza crusts, sourdough bread, cinnamon rolls, the fried chicken sandwich, French fries, and more... it was all incredible! I have a freezer full of goodies to continue to eat. Love this place! Great atmosphere on a Sunday morning where everyone seems to know your name. We had waffles and an egg sandwich that were both delicious and served piping hot. Every cup of coffee I had was delivered to my table by the barista with a smile and some conversation (even though they were busy)...I wish I lived closer because this is the kind of place I would love to spend a full Sunday morning reading the paper and snacking on all the delicious morsels they have in glass cases along the front counter. Also, the design of the space is lovely and comfortable. The whole place just feels soothing and warm, like you're being taken care of by an old friend. Service was solid, though the waitress was not terribly knowledgable about ingredients or preparation. At the same time, she happily headed back to the kitchen multiple times to check on things, especially since I not only have Celiac Disease but am dairy intolerant. Wheat's End though also offers tons of vegan options, and they gave me a dairy-free palm-oil butter. If you're looking for the highlights of the culinary creativity, look out for the fresh fruit compote -- cinnamon vanilla over warm waffles made of ancient grains -- or the orange buttercream cake, vegan, but creamy and dense to perfection. In summary, Wheat's End isn't cheap, but it's affordable. My girlfriend is gluten intolerant, so this restaurant was a treasure! She had the Prosciutto Eggs Benedict, and I had the Popover with Mushroom Gravy and Poached Eggs. I have been to Wheat's End many times and have always had a great experience. The service is friendly, relaxed and fast - exactly what you want for weekend brunch. The food is the star of course and I have never had a bad dish. The banana chocolate chip waffle is delicious and definitely a treat. My husband has had the short rib, omelettes and popover and enjoyed all of them even though he is not gluten-free like me.
