I want to love OMi so badly, I really do. But now that I've been here a handful of times, I'm confident in saying that it's a more middle of the pack option for the cafes I frequent. Let's start with the positives. I love the vibe of the cafe itself, it's one of my favorite spots just for the abundance of natural light and the cute decorations & art strewn across the walls. It's also just a very social atmosphere due to all the meetup events that congregate there, which can be a pro or con depending on who you ask. The employees are all super chill! Generally good vibes and never had a problem with their service. Now the negatives. The drinks and food are so mid. I keep trying different options hoping that I picked the wrong item, because I so desperately want to find that "go-to safe item" at my favorite spot. But all of it is just so, so mid. Sometimes it's too sweet (the most common problem), other times the flavoring is just super underwhelming or grossly artificial. The baked goods are all pretty low quality as well, I honestly think I could make better pastries myself (and I am a person who tends to be hypercritical of my work, so that's saying something). read more

My favorite place to go when I'm working remote and don't have a lot of teams meetings! Their matcha is very good and not terribly expensive (it's Chicago so it's not dirt cheap either but what do you expect) and the atmosphere is bright and charming. There's plenty of seating and outlets. I love the little loft area up high. Only criticism is if you come here to work when it's busy, the WiFi sometimes gets overloaded and becomes really spotty. read more

This little cafe is so cute, very cozy! They have many different sitting area around the cafe, from the first floor to the second. I will say, it does get pretty busy, we were lucky to get a table. Right when our order was ready. The pandan honey toast was amazing! I will say that it is on the heavier side, because it is so sweet but I would definitely get it again! The toast was nice and warm as well. My only complaint is that the plastic silverware made it difficult to cut the toast into bite sizes. This place has been here 2 years (it's 5/25/2025) and the location is amazing for anything Asian from a seventeen (K-pop) pop up store to Japanese food to Thai or Korean and Chinese and lots of boba places and a Japanese cafe with yummy honey toast with ice cream at OMI. So you will love the area and you will love this place OMI! They have free WiFi, amazing and fun dessert and boba teas, and a bilevel area for additional seating. It's so quiet and the music is not obnoxiously loud. In fact it's like a low volume background noise that's calming. I really hate places that blast music so this kind of goes with the motif and culture of anything Japanese which is ultra respectful and quiet and reserved. Came here with couple of my girlfriends and let me tell you, the vibes in this cafe is cute as hell. Great spot to come to do school, work, or study. Everyone has an Ube something these days and this Ube latte does not Ube. It's delicious nonetheless. I got it hot since it was freezing that day and we popped in here after lunch to warm up, caffeinate and catch up. Very nice, clean, and spacious interior with a decent amount of tables, a small "upper level" space with more tables, and some small windowside bench seating with small tables. They also had a rocking horse and a small throwing game that our toddler definitely enjoyed, haha. The employees were really kind and helpful. They have bathrooms in the back but you'll need to get a code from the front. We had just eaten so we weren't too hungry to try any of the food items or toasts. I ordered an iced oolong milk tea with boba, my wife got a hot uji matcha latte, and we shared an ama affogato. The ama affogato was tasty. The vanilla flavor was good and the texture was creamy, and the espresso was strong. The description said it has homemade Japanese pudding but I don't recall ours having that, but it was good overall. Unfortunately we were disappointed in both of our drinks as neither of them had much tea flavor and just seemed pretty diluted. The boba was decently chewy though. Based on other reviews I can consider the possibility that this is not how their drinks usually are, so I'm willing to come back at some point and try again. Wow the Shibuya honey toast (5/5) with two scoops of vanilla ice cream and strawberries was absolutely delicious! It was a little on the pricey side and came out to approximately $16 after tax and tip but honestly it was a huge generous portion and definitely enough to split between two people in my opinion. It was so good and tasted a lot like French toast! We also got the ama affogado and felt like this one was more of a 3.5/5. The coffee was super high quality and flavorful but the only thing was that there were pieces of pudding (?) inside the affogado which gave the dessert a strange texture in my opinion. I would get this again but would ask them to remove the pudding if I come back again. This is a nice large space with lots of study tables and seating. OMi is a new Asian dessert shop that my friends and I stumbled upon. I loved the aesthetic of this chic, minimalist, but open cafe. The staff and baristas were super friendly and nice. We got a variety of things: Premium Thai Coffee : it was the best Thai coffee Ive ever had in my life. It was a deep, bold coffee and tasted very rich. Also the packaging was so cute. Strawberry Bingsoo : it was a little expensive for the size, but the bingsoo was so smooth. The strawberries were super fresh, along with the extra jam they gave. The whipped cream was also fresh and tasted like it was made in house. It was devoured in seconds. Thick toast: my friends loved it but thick toast was never my thing. I thought it was a bit too soft for my liking. However, the ice cream was amazing. I can't wait to come back on my next trip to Chicago and go to their speakeasy ;) read more

OMi is such a cute cafe! They have so many food and drink options, it's a great place to get brunch. I got their Spicy Tuna bowl and it was amazing! It was plated very nicely and came with a side salad. I also got their mango iced tea with boba and it was the perfect balance of sweetness. I don't like when fruit teas are too sweet but this one was just right. My friends got the Thai Tea latte, Strawberry Cheesecake shaved ice, and mango smoothie. The shaved ice was so good, I think it was my favorite. The interior was also decorated very well, lots of bright colors and cute designs. Americano suffers from the same dilution that others have complained about. So watered down, barely any flavor. Definitely overpriced compared to the drink quality. The drink packaging is cute, but I hope the business owner switches manufacturers for the top pull-off lid of the bottle- the pull tab just ripped off, and I had to use a broken wooden stick to stab through and pull the actual lid part off. A bit worried about small metal particles/shavings when doing so, so be careful if you find yourself in the same situation. The good part about this place is that it's very spacious, with very cute vibes for studying or hanging out with friends. The employees are also super nice. read more

So delicious! The French toast was paired so well with the cold rich matcha flavored ice cream. The center does is a softer from soaking in the melted ice cream, while the edges are crunchy and crispy. It was paired with the a scoop of subtle sweet red bean paste, and maple syrup; it honestly didn't need to syrup since it already had a sweet & rich taste from the matcha. Would definitely come back to try their other items of the menu. My only critique is the placement of the tables, if you have a party of two or more, the seating areas to the side of the cafe makes one of you feel like you're either towering or hunching over to eat. read more

I had never heard of OMi but was given a gift card so hubby and I tried it out while we were in the area. I had an uji matcha latte and hubby had an oolong milk tea. He also ordered an ama affogato (homemade Japanese pudding, Japanese vanilla ice cream, topped with an espresso). Both of our drinks were lacking in flavor and tasted diluted. The ice cream in the affogato was icy and seemed like it had freezer burn. There was also no pudding in the affogato. The inside is fairly spacious with plenty of seating. Beyond glad I get to have this spot right down the road from my apartment. The atmosphere in OMi is relaxing and cozy; quiet enough to read, but the music is still loud enough to soothe you. My main go to is the Chai Latte. The balance of sweet and spice is impressive; I usually have to tell coffee shops to tone down the sugar, but this came out perfect. I've also had their Taro Ice Cream which was TO DIE FOR. The consistency and flavor are unmatched. Lastly, every single staff member is delightful and friendly. Cute new dessert spot in Lakeview! My friend and I stopped by one night after dinner for dessert and the server was super patient and helpful while we were deciding. I ended up getting the soft serve which was a mix of chocolate and rose hana. The chocolate was good, but the rose was amazing and I would definitely recommend getting that alone if they have it!
