This is a pretty cool bar in what I'd call downtown Estes Park. We were walking along the river path after a hike on Lily Mountain and decided we were hungry. I realize it is the off season for Estes Park, so picking a place to eat was a little bit difficult. We came across the Wheel Bar and looked at the menu outside and decided to give it a try. Walking in the place is definitely a local joint and had several locals hanging out at the bar. It felt just like bars I love. We found a table and ordered a couple beers and asked for menus. This is where the place went downhill. Apparently, since it is the off season the kitchen in Wheel Bar is closed. You'd think they would take their menu posted outside down or at the very least post a sign saying something like...oh I don't know "kitchen closed for the season". Seriously, even Dairy Queen has a freakin sign in the window saying they will be opening in March. After we ordered our beers i also noticed a very small handwritten sign saying the bar is cash only, no plastic. Really? Is this not the 21st century? Oh they have an ATM at the front of the bar which I am sure they charge $3 for each withdrawal, but we had cash so we didn't have to venture to find out. Even with all the downside, the place gets 3 stars, about as good as it can possibly get with all the negatives I mentioned. It's just a cool bar that has been around a long time. Prices were reasonable and the beer was cold. I'll quench my thirst here again next time I am in Estes, I'll just have to remember to bring cash. read more

Understandably, the pickings in Estes Park are limited, so I always find myself at the Wheel Bar for a mid-afternoon cocktail. Even if there were more options, I still think this would be my spot to get saucy. It's a pretty solid dive bar and always has a good crowd of locals and tourists alike. It's a good place to have a beer or two with the locals. Decent beers on tap and others in can or bottle, and the service is good. Good prices on beers (we only had beer, no cocktails or shots) at $3.50/pint. Meet some fun locals each time we go. I like the atmosphere a lot better than the Estes Park Brewery, and the prices are definitely right. Someone said they don't take credit cards - they will as long as the bill is over $10. read more

Maybe if you stay away from the lady bartender you'll have a better experience. After spending 4 hours and over $120 on our tab, WHICH WE DID NOT RECEIVE OUR RECEPT FOR, the bartender didn't like our tipping option. She went and ran her mouth about us to one of her fellow lady regulars after we walked out the door. As we're walking down the block the old lady comes out the door and calls my wife and I "classy bitches" and telling us "you're not welcome in Estes Park.", well we don't take that very lightly so we return to the bar and proceed to make a scene since the bartender and her friend wanted one so badly, and then we proceed to get kicked out because we were "starting a fight". IF you do visit, ask for Shane. And although our experience was ruined after going there every night, we WILL be back because it has cheap drinks and it takes more than that to scare Texas. Also if the bartender is reading this. If you're so worried about your money, why don't you hang the towel and grab a regular 9-5 like every other over mid aged woman in America. read more

I am no local but you wouldn't know by the way we were treated there, i felt as everyone did like we were welcomed, and wanted there, in fact everyone there were treated like they were family. We really wanted a nice little place to have a few beers and Jon more than took care of us, what an absolute great experience this was, i look forward to coming back out there and spending a few hours there ! A fellow Denver resident I know who spent a lot of time in Estes in his years spoke so highly of the Wheel. He said every time he goes to EP he stops by the wheel to belly up with the locals. Um..ok, the locals on Main Street?! Really!! Maybe off season. I do think it's a great place to have a beer and maybe some greasy bar food, but as far as kickin it with the locals...not so much. A more than serviceable option in Estes. We were here for my friend's wedding, and this was one of the places we ended up when going out on the town. From the street, it doesn't look very big, but this place keeps going back, and back! There's a front area with a bar, which feels a little tight, but once you head back about halfway, there's a bunch of tables and arcade games. Keep going down some stairs, and you've got comfy old chairs, and a pool table. And yes, there's even a patio. The drinks were reasonable, the staff was friendly, and everyone had a good time. If I'm back in Estes, this would probably be my go-to. read more

One of my favorite spots for a beer in Estes Park. The bartenders are friendly and fun. they have a nice choice of Pool, arcade games and bar shuffle board. Lots of seats available at the bar and comfortable seating along the west wall. The drinks are reasonably priced we paid 7$ for a Stella pint and can of Pabst. Its a huge space and if you explore your way to the back you will find a second bar on the lower level that has a patio and sometimes a hot dog vendor. Along with the inexpensive drinks they have fantastic taste in music lots of 80" rock. always fun to stop at the Wheel Bar. read more

My husband and I absolutely love this bar. Every time we are in Estes, which is a lot, we go to this bar. In fact, we actually just had our wedding reception there. It was the most perfect place to have a down to earth, casual reception. We worked with Michelle the entire time and she was absolutely fantastic. She kept us in the loop about everything and was even the onsite bartender for the actual event. She was so nice and helped out with everything. I stumbled onto this gem during a recent visit to Estes, it's pretty damned cool. No pegging the crowd, this place attracts all comers. The beer/ale selection is very solid and they represent local selections with pride. The layout is multi-level so you have options if the bar is crazy packed. I don't have any information on waitstaff because while there I didn't see any but just hit the bar for refills. The patio is sizable and one of the more pleasant places in town to vape/smoke. read more

I love this place. Just moved here from San Diego where a beer is about $10. This place is great and friendly on the wallet. Just genuine nice people here as well starting with the bartenders to the customers. Lots of seating and games to play. Honestly can't think of a better place to get a group of friends together and reminisce on life while drinking beers with VERY reasonable prices. 5 stars for sure. Love this joint. We are sure to visit every time we are in town. Service is fantastic. Atmosphere is fun and very historical. Ask the bartender for some tid-bits. Price for drinks is extremely reasonably. Actually met the owner and he gave us a fantastic tour (his granddad purchased it back in the day). Look for the carousel horse hanging on the wall. I only came for the free Tuesday Night Texas Hold'em Poker Night. I was with a group of people, and some of them come here often. Most players are local and very friendly. You sign in and get $1500 of poker chips (for free). You can also get a quick free lesson in Texas Hold'em rules if you don't already know them. The table is very helpful to anyone who is new to the game. It was very fun and entertaining. There is also a "losers table" at the end when enough people fall out, and you can continue playing for fun (with another bag of chips). I wish we were here longer to play again next week. We didnt try any food, but the bartender seems friendly asking us if we needed anything. We also played shuffleboard after poker while waiting for a friend that was still playing poker. The shuffleboard was also pretty fun. read more

This seemed like a cool bar and I was really enjoying it for my first few beers/drinks, until the bartender was a total dick. I ordered a "spiked arnie" which is exactly what it sounds like, an Arnold Palmer (tea and lemonade) add vodka. I call these John Dalys after the infamous drunken PGA pro, and drink them often, in fact this is one of my go to drinks. So when it arrived and tasted WAY off, I'm talking sour/spoiled, I brought it back to the bartender to let him know and get something else. He proceed to try and belittle me saying that "It's just tea and lemonade with vodka man" no shit I know the ingredients and drink these regularly, you either royally fucked it up or your tea/lemonade mix has gone bad. He then says "maybe I just put too much vodka in it" which was obviously not the case. Rather than cause a scene with bartender dipshit I ordered a beer and left the full drink on the bar, which he charged me for. Needless to say this interaction really ruined the vibe so we moved on to another spot. read more
