Grubsteak Restaurant was a great choice for dinner in Estes Park! The atmosphere is very casual and welcoming, and the prices were reasonable, especially for the quality of the food. We started with the wild boar stuffed mushrooms, which were delicious and a fun way to try something different. For dinner, I had the elk medallions with a Caesar salad, and everything was cooked perfectly. If you're looking to try Colorado game meat, this is a great place to do it. The staff was incredibly friendly and took the time to answer our questions and help us decide what to order, which we really appreciated. Another huge plus is that they have a pet-friendly patio, so we were able to enjoy dinner with our dog. Staff was very hospitable from the gentleman who greeted us at the door to the staff who seated and served us. It was one of the only restaurants that wasn't "over heated"- we actually tried 2 other places but the heating was on so high, we left before being served. Atmosphere: funky, old school style, we had the hamburger and fries, and the shrimp cigars. The bun was a "little" dry, with the altitude we heard it can happen, overall the burgers and fries were good, not exceptionally-but not bad either. The Shrimp Cigars-very filling and tasty. They tasted very fresh-not frozen. (Not sure if they were frozen-either way, they were delicious.) Nice staff, vegetables are good. Beef burger tasted like it was cooked on the same section of the grill that cooked yak or bison burgers on. Very gamey. "Spicy" chicken sandwich was basic white girl spicy (about as spicy as sugar is, so not at all) Overall, pass on this, sadly. read more

Probably one of the worst burgers I have ever had. Whiskey burger was the size of a hockey puck and smaller than the bun. Dry and flavorless with a few pieces of blue cheese. Add some undercooked scotch eggs (raw meat) and a few beers. $49 dollars later and we will never come back. The waitress was nice. read more

My wife's steak was ordered medium and arrived well done. The steak was sent back. The server came back to the table to argue that she was wrong. Interesting and comfy atmosphere albeit slightly chilly; and mind you, I went in the autumn. The service is prompt, responsive, and friendly. Food-wise, I recommend coming here if only for the fact that so many exotic meats are represented here, particularly in sometimes uncommon fashion. The prices are a bit high for the area and execution, however; and to that end, I would note the items range from a C- to borderline C/C+ in terms of enjoyment. If you're a cityzen, you definitely want to visit here with your party and try 4 or 5 different exotic meats. As I am not seasoned enough in exotic meats to exactly determine such, but I am an avid eater (and carnivore) all the same, I will caveat my judgment of quality of ingredients to be slightly below average; with execution and seasoning being the main culprit as to why the items are not fleshed out to their full potential. read more

Estes is such a cute little town. The Grubsteak Restaurant is a casual place to get top notch options. Sunny patio with an umbrella option. Burger with a temperature option. Side options are plentiful (I loved the fries - they seemed to have a light batter on them or they were twice fried or something = super yum! The potato salad had dill = yummy num!). My husband and I had our welcome party in the Pub room of Grubsteak Restaurant, the space was great for the occasion. Food was hand selected by us and was what we wanted. Although, that stuff was great, we would not have an event there again. After months of communication and confirmation, our party showed up for our reservation and we were told our reservation was for an hour later than all the emails from their event manager. They were able to move things around, but it was very embarrassing for my husband and I having to wait for our table when all of our guests arrived because of Grubsteak's error. We moved past that and started to have a great time until we started ordering drinks. When we began ordering drinks the servers told us we could not separate the bridal party drinks and then another open tab, even though we had multiple emails confirming that was the plan and it was okay. The manger was not helpful at all and the staff was very rude, even though they were incorrect and could not honor emails they agreed to. We were very excited to enjoy this place but unfortunately will not be coming back! As the bride it caused a lot of unnecessary stress when things were confirmed and could not be honored. read more

When we were walking along the 'strip', we saw this place and since we are both carnivore's, we decided to give it a try. It took a bit for the waiter to come over to take our drink/food orders. A little longer than it probably should have. We ordered the scotch eggs to share and I ordered the Shepherd's Pie and my daughter had a cheeseburger kids meal. The Scotch eggs were good but the Shepherd's pie was just okay. There really wasn't a whole lot of flavor and there wasn't much there. My daughter's cheeseburger was okay too. While in Estes Park with my cousin, we were in search of a restaurant downtown with game meat. We viewed the menu outside Grubsteak and decided to stop in. The menu offered starters, salads and soups, entrees like game meatloaf (antelope, boar, venison, & elk), burgers (beef, yak, bison, elk, or inpossible), desserts, & drinks. We sat at a picnic table outside on a cool evening with cold beers where we could see a bit of the view over the fence. We started with wild boar stuffed mushroom caps and shrimp cigars. Two starters was a good option to share for three to four people. I would order the mushrooms again, but maybe not the shrimp cigars. We each had a burger for our main entree and subbed onion rings for fries. If you like thick cut onion rings, this is the choice to make. Two of us had elk burgers, and my cousin ordered the yak. The burgers were built well, but I'd say slightly over cooked. We all had a green chile on our burgers which was great. We also each had a beer. I had an Odell Friek sour beer, my cousin ordered a Guinness, & my partner had a michelada which was surprisingly nice and spicy! Our server and runners were very attentive, helpful, and responsive. I didn't have the greatest experience at grub steak. Even though the restaurant was not busy, the service was extremely slow and my group was only getting drinks. My husband and I went for dinner. Ordered the filet, both of ours were terrible. Fatty, grisly and rubbery. Could barely cut into them. Advised the server. We then tried the ribs. Our plates were brought out with our side we had before which were then cold. The ribs definitely fall off the bone but lack in flavor and are doused in so much bbq sauce. Server forgot to bring cup of green chili. A manager never visited our table. No compensation offered. Poor customer service. Sadly I would not recommend dining here. read more

Estes Park is one of my fav places; that said, my general experience with small mountain town service and dining, regardless the state, is at lower expectations, but I always hope for a gem. This was sadly typical, and price point doesn't fit here, which conveyed higher quality food, presentation, & service. And we had some higher hopes based on the menu and for wanting a bit more for our dinner. There wasn't a host or anyone at the front street entrance where there is a more typical restaurant table set up, so we just wandered to the back where there was the bar and dining area where people were. Bartender was no where to be found, but a server got us set up with menus and water, which was great since we had a considerable wait for the bartender to show up, who then took one order from other patrons and wandered off. The bartender was really nice but seemed one small task at time and disappeared away from the bar frequently. Us and other patrons had to ask for silverware once our food was brought out and there seemed to be some confusion at that request, though the food wasn't finger food. The menu has some unique offerings which was why we wanted to check it out, & it was decent but didn't feel worth the price point of roughly $30-40 a plate on entree. Pork chop was a bit overdone but the spicy bacon jam on it helped. Most places serve two chops as entree, but it was just one as "pork chop sirloin." Elk Shepard's pie was a bit thin on meat, but overall ok. Burgers, which also seems to be the basic menu option in a mountain town, looked decent. read more

We hit up Grubsteak every time we go up the canyon into Estes. The burgers are by far the best in town IMO, and we've tried a lot of places over the years. Can't speak to everything on the menu but apps & burgers are fantastic. And the house made BBQ sauce is so good. It's our fave place to grab a quick bite when in town. read more

Does he even know he is a waiter? I'm not actually sure. He ordered both our entrees wrong, couldn't answer a single question about the menu or even suggest an entree, had to be flagged down to get our beers and I'm just waiting for my total to be wrong once it clears my card. We were on a tour to see the national park. So we got dropped off downtown to fend for ourselves. I love checking Yelp first, of course. And while this only had 3 stars, the last few reviews were good. So we gave it a whirl. Glad we did! The food was great! The burger was cooked how I ordered it! (Medium rare) it was tasty. The chicken sandwich was also awesome! My husband and I split the sandwiches. The homemade ranch was good! The service was good. AND- they offer you free dessert (cheesecake) if you pay cash! We did! Arrived for a late lunch, but being a tourist Mecca, the place was still crowded. Quickly seated, I ordered beer, cheeseburger with onion rings, and side salad. All arrived and were very satisfying. Every time I'm in Estes we stop by - The steaks and burgers are dynamite as are the apps. . . Now that I think of it, never had a bad meal. Everything is 5 stars. Great atmosphere, you can park out back and walk in OR stroll in while you are cruising downtown on foot. They have cool decor, a great vibe, and a welcoming staff who make you feel right at home. It's the perfect place to relax. Did I mention kid friendly? Yup - seal of approval there as well. Local tip - winter is a great time to hit them up since they are open year-round. Grubsteak was recommended to us for a great place to eat. They definitely did not disappoint. The sat in the Bar area, I personally loved the decor. The our waitress was super friendly, and the bartender was friendly making sure we were never in need of drinks. The food was great, the buffalo and yak were tender.
